how much does it cost on the average to construct a 60ft by 40ft by 7ft pond, both earthen and concrete ?

The truth be say how many people use re circulatory in their farms? but dey still get result. though I was once having some challenges in my hatchery for over 8 months did everything possible to no avail until I disturbed sir robonski to troubleshoot the problem.

I'll appreciate an advice and cost implication of setting up a small size recirculatory hattery. This is an option I am considering because of the several failed spawning efforts I have made using flow through method.

bro spawners still get huge suxcess using flowthru method. you shoukd check your overall management like broodstock, the feed etc. recirculatort might not be the solution

Depends on location because the cost of labor and material differ from states. for earthen pond with that size 50 t0 60k and for concrete 70 to 80k.

I am facing the first major challenge . Our sumo for pumping water spoilt since friday and we didnt know. Heard from our gateman dt landlord has called ppl to fix it but i dont know how long it will take.

I have reduced feeding rate by half so dt i can manage water for longer time. The water was also filled to half of wat i normally fill it. Iam thinking of bringing my tank from my farm home and call tankers to fill it but dt will cost some money for d relocation. Another tot dt came to.my mind is dt am.nt sure if there is chlorine or other chemicals in d tankers water.

I noticed green algae in my pond. i also noticed the fish eat it. hmm. so surprising. I gues its cos my pond isnt covered.

@noble, congrats on the near completion of ur pond. It gives us immense Joy knowing people brave up to venture into catfish farming. We practising, experience & successful catfish farmers on this thread would assist the little we can with our priceless advice.
1: We use Lime(CaCO3) for treatement of freshly dugout pond.
2: Duration is 14days, @ d 7th day we apply chicken droppings thou its not necesary if u cant manage it.

i tot for earthen pond, u have to lime for days (to kill anything living in the pond), then fertilise the pond for 2 weeks with chicken manure.
After fertilisation, u drain the water. Fill again then stock. Juveniles are more preferable to stock in earthen pond.

I will also advise you to read all abix's, Juve and Tokugawa posts on this thread..

On a lighter note, how Jamp? noticed his thread has been deleted. I was searching on stocking density of earthen pond on this thread , Then saw his posts in 2013 when he was asking questions on how to stock wit a plastic tank of 2000litres. I then recalled dt he said in his deleted thread that he has over 5years experience.
The guy was targeting big fish like Oga Fhemmy, He didnt need small boys, even to sell his manual. There is nothing ive nt seen on nairaland.

Don't mind that jamp of a guy I also stumbled on his post on this same thread lemme quote some of his posts.

it depends on the system used in raising them... If u use a flow through system it is 100 to 150 fishes per square metre. Recirculatory is 300 per square metre, earthen pond is 50 per square metre..

I want to use plastic pond that is 2000 liters

it will contain 400 to 500 fishes to maturity comfortably..

my fish is 3weeks today. How time flies!
i have abt 2 of them dt are still same size as wen it was bought. only diff is dt their head is getting bigger. Their heads arent flat as was said of runts. The others are 3times the size while some are a little lesser. They grow everyday.

I hv a challenge. The drainage tap for the pond doesnt flow well. I have to use bucket and take water out. i noticed a cracked head on one of my fishes this morning and i feel i caused it during draining. i have called a plumber to come and replace d tap wit a bigger one.
Please advise hw to handle d fish while d plumber is replacing d tap.

mercy u don try no be small, bring out the fishes into a big bowl with water till the plumber finishes his work.

I posted sometime ago about my bacteria attack i had on my fishes after those treatment they have been up and doing....I| made some mistakes and i want others to learn from it....

I didnt treat my pond before stocking, i bought seeds that probably had low resistance to diseases i noticed that after i bought from the farmer the ones left had issues which he treated seriously, and when i saw signs of such in my pond and i wanted to take proper actions he discouraged me that i shouldnt bother they will get better, they actually did temporarily but wen dey played return leg i lost over 600 pieces.
I finally did what i wanted to do earlier he kept quiet and was watching.

In case you find urself in the midst of such farmers that tell you years of experience and dey dont update pls press ur ignore button and do the needful i learnt mine and i do the needful with no aplologies...the same fellow hatched and lost all of his fishes the female even died of abt 4kg he hatched recently and lost about 45% again but dey tell you years of experience like dey know it all i have a friend who i introduced to fishery started this janurary and he is doing great right now on his 2nd set of hatching he is months old and has over 40000 fries its nt how far but how well this thread has really helped me with the likes of great people have met thanks for ur 1 million supports if start to mention i mit offend some
