Gov. Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state on Thursday cancelled all forms of fanfare as well as stadium parades usually held on Independence Day celebrations. NAN reports that Fayose in a broadcast said there was nothing to celebrate in view of the economic situation in the country. “I do not think it is proper to engage in jamboree when it is almost becoming increasingly difficult to pay workers salaries. “The current situation demands sober reflection from all and we cannot pretend about this,” Fayose said. He ordered residents to stay at home and enjoy the celebration in low-key. NAN reports that as a result of the governor’s order, the usual activities associated with the celebration were absent in most parts of Ado-Ekiti on Thursday. However, there were few places where pockets of activities were organised by individuals or corporate bodies. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/fayose-cancels-independence-celebration/ |

Former Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva has described as a deliberate “act of mischief” and “lies” the claims by the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole that he truncated the electoral process during the disputed governorship primaries of the All Progressive Congress APC in the state. According to him, though the Edo Statd Governor was the Chairman of the Election Committee and had left the venue of the primaries, the election which led to his emergence as the flag bearer of the party was free, fair and without violence as claimed by the Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole. Sylva in a statement issued through his Media Adviser, Doifie Bukoribo, Wednesday night said “It is unfortunate that people like Adams Oshiomhole, the governor of Edo State and former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress, who pretend to be incorruptible, would conduct himself in the manner in which he did in relation to the Bayelsa State governorship primary. It was clear that Oshiomhole never wanted to conduct the primary as scheduled. “First, on his request, the primary was shifted from its earlier date of Saturday, September 19 to the Tuesday, September 22 date. The grouse of the delegates was that the primaries had been shifted once on Oshiomhole’s request. That shift caused enough hardship already. The ‘comrade’ was again shifting the goal post, without giving consideration to these hapless delegates. It was that frustration that we were managing. It is so sad that the governor did not appreciate our effort.” “Second, as chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Oshiomhole knew full well that accreditation of delegates was to begin at 8am on Tuesday, September 22, but he came to the venue of the programme well past 12 noon. After he arrived at that late hour, he proceeded with a meeting with the committee members and another meeting with the aspirants. He clearly had preconceived plans about the Bayelsa APC governorship primary. “Third, Oshiomhole cannot really say anything about the primary election because he had left the venue at the time voting commenced. Oshiomhole set the process in motion for voting to commence before he excused himself on the grounds that he was going to eat, and he mandated other members of the committee to carry on without him. “The world needs to know that the Bayelsa State Electoral Committee is made up of seven members, and of the seven only Oshiomhole left. The other six remained, conducted the primary and declared Sylva winner of the exercise. “Fourth, it bothers on pettiness for Governor Oshiomhole to quote me as antagonist to new entrants to our party. Every discussion I had with the governor was public. “The only private conversation I had with him was when he walked up to me and asked me if I truly believed he was working against my interest. To that I answered ‘YES’. As a man of integrity (?) he even offered to step down as chairman. If he had stepped down would that have invalidated the primaries? We should refrain from exaggerating our worth and integrity. Let other good people judge our character.” “After all, I was the one that received all new entrants. Oshiomole was invited and he did not come.Fifth, Oshiomhole came to Yenagoa with a clear agenda, which was to get me out of the race at all cost. We are aware that he had been lobbying at the centre to get me out of the race in order to pave the way for one of the aspirants. Indeed, one of the aspirants had boasted openly that Oshiomhole would cancel the primary once he arrived, shortly before his arrival. “Oshiomhole should not tell lies, if I was not there, contrary to his insinuation that I rented thugs to manhandle him, the crowd would have manhandled him. I personally accompanied Oshiomhole to the gate when he was going to eat. “Seventh, if Oshiomhole has anything personal against me, let him tell the world. We are shocked that the man who claims to be morally upright with a strong ethical orientation would land in Yenagoa for an exercise in which he ought to be an impartial arbiter with a helicopter provided by a friend of one of the aspirants.” http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/sylva-to-oshiomhole-you-are-a-liar-and-mischief-maker/ |

BENIN—The Coalition of Civil Societies for the Emancipation of Edo State, CCSE, has called on Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo State to take the path of honour and apologise to Nigerians for misleading and misinforming them over his alleged statement that N140 billion had been expended on consultancy services for the 2nd Niger Bridge project and that $700 million was surreptitiously moved from the Sovereign Wealth Fund, SWF, for the same bridge. This is coming on the heels of the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, NSIA’s, declaration, that it had only spent about N14 billion on the project and that the money include N10 billion as part of the N18.3 billion so far released by the Federal Government for the project, which had been disbursed for early construction work on the bridge. NSIA also said that about $2.2 million only had been spent as consultancy on the project, including feasibility studies, legal due diligence, environmental impact assessment, traffic studies, and engineering design. Lampooning Oshiomhole over his antics and unverified statements, Coordinator CCSE, Mr. Okharedia Ihimekpen, said Oshiomhole must tender apology to Nigerians, and put a stop to his inflammatory statements. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/09/2nd-niger-bridge-oshiomhole-must-apologise-to-nigerians-say-csos/ |

By Adekunle Aliyu Imo state Governor and Chairman, All Progressives Congress, APC, Governor’s Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has said that it is too early to begin to judge Buhari’s intention on his appointments and that as far as he is concerned, the president had executed what the office empowers him to do. Rochas who appealed to the president to consider the South-East in his appointments said as the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, he has the right to make appointments that would make him succeed and nobody should dictate for him who he should appoint or who he should not appoint. The governor spoke weekend at the end during his meeting with selected stakeholders in the state, urging them to continue supporting the APC governments at all levels, in the country and mostly that of President Mohammadu Buhari. As the president’s appointments so far affect the South-East, Governor Okorocha said “what I can only do is to continue to appeal to the president to consider the South-East in his appointments. And as far as I am concerned, the president had executed what the office empowers him to do, and it is believed that he did that in the best interest of the nation.” He continued, “again, most of the appointments the president has so far made are like his personal staff. I don’t think South-East will ever be forgotten in this administration, we will get our due. In fact, if you ask me, I would say we should be more interested in the projects coming down to the South-East, and as much as we can get. The projects will bring about development of the South-East.” The governor continued on the appointments, “on the appointments as they concern the South-East, there is no cause for alarm. It is too early in the day to begin to judge Buhari’s intention. I think he means well. Let us give him a chance. Nigeria is one nation. A nation for all of us. We must start thinking about the nation rather than thinking about sentiment of where we come from.” “Although the South-East had expected so much, we believe all will be well with the Buhari presidency and for the development of the South-East. It is wrong for some people to begin to use the issue to incite the people of the South-east against the president. The government is about to celebrate its one hundred days, and the appointments are just beginning to come, and by and large, the South-East will get their dues.” “The point is that we cannot begin to judge President Buhari with the appointments so far made. We cannot obviously use it to judge his intention. I think he means well for the nation and with every geo-political zone inclusive. So, let us give him a chance.” The Governor also restated his commitment towards ensuring that many federal projects are cited in the South East zone during the present federal administration than during the previous ones. On the essence of the meeting he held with political stake holders in the state Owelle Okorocha said it was aimed at charting the way forward on the government’s programme of beautifying the state to attract investors, adding that the exercise will be extended to Okigwe and Orlu. The governor explained that government would establish taskforce committees charged with the responsibility of cleaning up Imo state and relocating markets and parks as to create healthy environments, adding that the joint state and local government committees aimed at reviewing development projects executed in rural and urban areas of the state will be set up. Buhari need to understand that Nigeria is a muti ethnic society and no region has the MONOPOLY OF COMPETENCE. He is trying to prove some people right that he is an unrepentant tribal bigot |
Since PMB came on board, rumours, lies and deceit have become the order of the day. We hardly know the truth in the current APC administration because the party is built on lies |
The so called unity forum are just wasting their time and seeking attension. The earlier they stop acting opposition in the senate, the better for them. What are they afraid of if Larmode is innocent |
PMB is busy forming anti curruption war legend, chasing PDP members and shielding his party members. Somebody should please remind him that no political party has the MONOPOLY OF CURRUPTION and Nigerians will start taking him serious when he stop witch-hunting |
