As Ilobi Òkè irinja is the hometown of the IGP, I expect security to be beefed up in that area. The herdsmen and their herds are destructive and I believe they must have been warned by the community on their destructive tendencies, as they refused to heed the community warnings, the people had to take the law into their hands by eliminating the herders. I prayed the herders won't now mobilize to attack the community because that's their stock in trade. I hope the people living in that area are not sleeping with their 2 eyes closed.

I don't know the parameter that makes Lagos state government to impose the fine of 50k, why not 5k? With our prisons overcrowded, we'll have a lot of stubborn and ignorant pedestrians in prison for this minor infraction, and this is another way for KAI officials and policemen to make money by baiting unsuspecting Lagosians to fall victim and extort them. Most laws especially that of traffic are draconian as those in authority know that culprits will be the already tormented masses. The traffic law and punishment for contraveventions by confiscation of vehicles and motorcycles for plying one way roads for the former and restricted roads for the latter is a typical example of the draconian nature of these laws.

RIP to Kayode, I remember in an impromptu interview he wanted to conduct with the late Stephen Keshi in the 90s, Keshi told him in Yoruba to get the microphone off his face "Kayode, gbé kini yí kúrò níwájú mi). He was one of those sports journalists that made sure we know what's going on when Super Eagles used to camp at Papendal in Holland before any major tournament

Politics / Re: Government Approval Delays Dangote Refinery Fuel by gabbasin: 2:42pm On Feb 08
aribisala0:

When you talk of a delay that implies a schedule
Delays are measurable e.g a woman's pregnancy is supposed to be 9 months
So if it is 10 months old we can say there is a one month delay
Did Dangote agree a schedule with any one and by that schedule how long is the delay?
don't you think the refined products should have been in the market by now, or you think Dangote refines to store the products in the refinery. Pricing of these refined petroleum products is strategic and can be volatile. Things have to be carefully thought out, the commercial side and the economic impact have to be weighed. Petroleum products especially petrol is at the heart of Nigeria's economy

aribisala0:

What delay are you referring to exactly?
delay in getting the refined products to the market
Politics / Re: Government Approval Delays Dangote Refinery Fuel by gabbasin: 10:42am On Feb 08
I can say categorically that the delay has to do with pricing, they are being careful on how the market will react to the prices, any pricing higher than the current price of diesel and aviation fuel will make Nigerians skeptic about the benefit of the refinery and will dash hope of a reduction in petrol price when the refinery begins petrol production

Though so far so good, but I am still cautious about this hype on Nwabali, the defenders are doing a great job in curtailing opponents from making incursions into the dangerous area and making sure the attempts on goal are blocked. With the work the defenders and the team in general are putting in, Nwabali is being shielded from those shots. For me, he's not been tested enough. I pray this remain so throughout the tournament. The defence including Nwabali himself are doing a great job,

Same story, regime after regime, year after year, season after season. When are we going to make power available to Nigerians 24/7, seems we are doomed on this power issue till eternity, since the inception of the 4th republic, it's been promise. after promise from Obasanjo to Tinubu but no positive change, it's even worst. In my area with "one day on and one day off" load shedding, we still hardly get aggregate 8 hours of power during our day on. Is there anything like dividend of democracy for the ordinary folks. I remember during the Abacha era, it was much better than what we have now. Every government from Obasanjo till now is a failure. They all fail to deliver on the power issue. Trillions sunk, but virtually nothing to show for it

Most of the big and the so called successful lawyers today make their money from politicians and governments , especially those ones representing politicians at election tribunals. Some even helped indicted politicians to scuttle their prosecution for corruption in courts.while some are the go between in bribing judges for favourable judgments at the tribunals. The 30m dollars Afe claimed he received from government most likely happened during Obj presidency, he was Obj's lawyer and friend. And he got the brief because of his friendship with Obj. Apart from politicians themselves, the sector that benefits from this democracy most are the lawyers, some even help corrupt governors and other public office holders to launder money in the name of being "paid for representing the state in litigations". No one should form a saint here, they all make their money from the corrupt system.

On what ground did Ivory Coast qualified on top that 4:0.

Or it's just because of be an host Country.

Those who follow up on the process should help and give us the brief.
The first 2 teams in each of the 6 groups qualify automatically while the 4 best teams among the 3rd placed in the groups qualify too to make up the 16 teams to play in the second round knockout matches. Ivory Coast is the 4th best 3rd place finisher. Assuming Zambia had not lost to Morroco, they would have made it instead of Ivory Coast

Politics / Re: Immigration Unveils Online Passport Application Portal Today by gabbasin: 9:29am On Jan 08
There's nothing new from what I read here, Passport application and payment has been going on online since, the problem is going for biometric capturing.
Immigration officers at passport offices from their countenance when they know you apply on your own online is terrible, they make it look you've done something abominable. Officers asking you terrible questions because you don't give anyone of them 55k to apply for you. Imagining demanding for bribe of 20,000 naira because you dare renew your passport 7 months to expiration. They even ask you for payment receipt when it's stated in the portal documents all you need to come with when coming for capturing.
I helped my younger sister apply online, on getting to the immigration office for capturing, she was asked who's facilitating it for her, she replied her brother apply for her online, she was asked to go get her payment receipt, but payment receipt isn't one of the documents to tender during capturing, besides you can't get a date and an application form for capturing without payment. But I sensed they just want my sister to see how much is collected from her in case she might have given a oanutrageous amount to the person who helped her apply online.
I believe this next phase of online application is to eliminate the hassle of going to passport office to go waste one's time and harassment from rogue officers by allowing applicants to upload the needed documents. Because our NINs are required during application, our biometrics can be generated during the NIN verification

I have watched these 4 players live, from Henry Nwosu to Mikel Obi, and I can tell you none can match Okocha in term of skill.
Indiscipline never allowed Etim to attain the height he should have reached. He's a good dribbler but not that polished,
For Henry Nwosu, he's a superbrat, making the Green Eagles team at age 17 straight from secondary school ( st Finbarrs college Akoka) and scoring crucial goals for the national team, Henry is a skillful player but he's not at the level of Jay Jay.
Mikel is one of the best midfielder that has ever featured for the national team, very skillful, good ball holder, midfield maestro, arguably after Jay Jay, he's the best midfielder to have adorned the green white jersey of Nigeria.
Jay Jay Okocha, he's simply the best of all

One of the problem impeding the growth of the power sector is tariff regulation by government, the federal government should compel the discos to meter all consumers and they should be allowed to fix their tariffs. These will enable investment in the power sector as the return on investment will be guaranteed with cost effective tariffs unlike when FG dictate the tariffs

Music/Radio / Re: Black Sherif & Others Call For Reduction Of Foreign Music In Ghana by gabbasin: 9:47pm On Dec 17, 2023
Catapault:

You are WRONG.

The rise of Afrobeats can be traced to Obasanjo’s impact where around the year 2000, radio stations were ordered to play 80% Nigerian music, to counter the dominance of US/UK R&B and HipHop.

Suddenly a huge demand for local music talent ensued.

That was the beginning of the Afrobeats revolution.
Nigerian music make it to the world scene not because Nigerian government banned foreign music on our airwaves but the content of our guys is world class. As our guys started making classy songs and videos that can be compared to that of their American counterparts, we started craving for our songs and the interest in the foreign music was waning. Let Ghana banned foreign music on their airwaves and see if their music will get type of rave ours is getting. Except they make good music, they're going nowhere.

No one banned foreign music in Nigeria before our own artistes make it big at the world stage, Nigerian musicians make world class content that's accepted globally. Until now American songs rule our airwaves but our guys do their homework and create homemade content that blow globally, if Ghanaians want to make to the world stardom, they should make good songs

Having one's building beside or adjacent a storey building in Nigeria is like sitting on a keg of gunpowder. We've been witnessing these sad occurrences of recent and I've been expecting our govts at the local level to be up and doing by sending out the agencies in charge of things like this to go look out for water tank towers in their domains to ascertain the integrity of these structures. Any water tank stand beyond 3 metres should be approved before construction and should be pass integrity test after construction. These are avoidable deaths if those in authority know why they are there

Something is really wrong with our system, how can a minister acting on behalf of the country enter into a contract of this humongous amount with an entity, without the authority of the President and the contract will be binding on Nigeria. There's lapses in governance in Nigeria
