bros e sweet o.. sounds like a dm7 add 11th.. but i prefer the E as d leading note.. sounds clogged the other way
Yeah! You're right. This particular chord doesn't create tension like holding D-F-A would. I prefer it(E-F-G-C) with A as the leading note 'cos of the harmony it creates.

Karleb:

My mistake!

Its D F A.

Chaiii my teacher go flog me o embarassed

Actually, even if I was right which I know I'm not, there was never supposed to be a B on the F scale, it's supposed to be BFlat.

My problem is that I'm not really used to all these chord names, I learnt the little I know about piano with all do Re mi chords!

So pardon me bros, I won't make that costly error again.
You're now right by normal rules. My li'le assignment for you is to get a keyboard and play E-F-G-C with your right hand and D-A with your left hand. How does the sound feel?

G-B-D respectively!
Hmm...! It looks like You're using slash chords. You're somewhat correct but What if I say that you're wrong?

Karleb:

I will!! angry
Let's assume you're playing on a F on the keyboard(F-G-A-Bb-C-D-E-F) and You play a D with the left hand , what chords would you play on the right?
Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 5:34pm On Sep 16, 2014
Karleb:

I actually meant, what and what key would I press to give me a chord on pentatonic scale, although I don't think I'll need that now since it really deals with the Asian music.
Erhm... If I tell you the answer to your question, would you believe me?

sisiafrika: now u know. U ignorant mofo, like I always say, being ignorant is no fun but displaying it publicly is outright foolishness. Seriously. Make sure u don't forget... No fun in being ignorant especially wen arrogance is added. it makes u look cheap.
whenever I see a comment from you, I always know that there must be an iota of ridicule or insult. If you think that's nice, then think Again! I'm not Taking it personally oh. But comments like yours irk me. Are you really a medical student?

Fazi15: thank you very much.
Don't mention it. We're here to help each other.
Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 9:48am On Sep 16, 2014
Fazi15: i know that all songs don't have the same progression but this is what i mean-for instance if you're to play the song 'ole igwe' on the key of F major what will be the progression and style to play it because i seriously can't play that song
Erhm.. If the song you're talking about is the one I know, then it should be a 1-4-6-5 progression. i.e F-Bb-D-C. As in: Ole (F) Ole( Bb-D)-eh(c). That's how it is.
Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 11:43pm On Sep 15, 2014
Fazi15: So now what type of chord progressions do modern keyboardist use to play praises
Lol. You're funny oh. chord progressions vary with songs. You can't use the same chord progression for all songs.
Music/Radio / Re: A Thread For Keyboardists by gameboi: 9:28pm On Sep 15, 2014
Karleb:

Wow I thought as much.

But, does that mean that I can use it to play the normal songs?

BTW, what's the formula for choosing the cords, like we have the "1 3 5, 3 5 1 & 1 5 3".

Pentatonic songs are specially written songs. You'll need to expertly fit them into any song you want to play. For more help you can download any Korean or chinese songs, most asian songs are played with pentatones. For your second question, those are chord inversions. Most keyboardists choose the one that helps them in smooth transition from one chord to another. Modern day keyboardists now add an octave i.e 1-3-5-1(octave), 3-5-1-3(Octave). Etc. To balance between the high and low pitch.

Karleb:

Now I do!

Can. You pls tell me more about pentatonic scale?
hmm..! why do I have this feeling that you already know the answer to what you're asking me? Anyway, Pentatonic Scale is composed of 5 notes. In the common type played by most keyboardist, the IVth and VIIth note is removed(i.e it is not played when playing through a normal scale). Rather then play a complete Cmajor scale as C-D-E-F-G-A-B-C, it would be played as C-D-E-A-G-C' (the F and B has been omitted). There are different types of pentantonic scales like the major, minor, blues, harmonic minor, etc. The major purpose of a pentatonic scale is to give any solo an Oriental feel.

and why do keep stopping at etc

Pls explain into detailsssss angry
I stop at 'etc.' because I don't like giving stories. But you should Know what I mean. Or don't you?

Karleb:

Pls elucidate more, I beg you! embarassed
here is what I mean. If for Instance you're learning in the Key of Cmajor, The Notes would be C D E F G A B C. Most keyboardist would say Do Re Mi Fa So La ti Do'. Then when learning the chords they would say pressing Do-mi-so gives the Do-chord, re-fa-La gives the Re-chord et al. Like, what the hell is Do-chord? Is it not actually supposed to be CMajor(C-E-G), Dminor(D-F-A) Eminor(E-G-B) etc. ? I hope you understand me.

My advice to all those that want to learn chords is DON'T LEARN CHORDS BY NOTE BUT BY NAME. How? There is nothing like Do-chord, Re-chord, et al. Rather, there are Major, minor, suspended, diminished, augmented , etc chords.

Doclight: guy getting minimum requirements is not a guarantee that u are gonna get admitted. Cos they have departmental cut. Getting medicine in a federal uni as uniuyo requires a lot. Like getting minimum of 260 in jamb and pjamb to b on d safer part. Cutoffs for medicine in federal unis, usually ranges from 60 percent -90 percent depending on general performance.
For example aau a state uni cut 65 for medicne dis year, unn cut about 275 or thereabout, ui cut 80 percent. So my guy for u to get med. Score high in both jamb and pjamb.

Enter school first u'd knw d procedure on crossing. U'd need a very high g.p in 100l

Hmmm!!! God is really great. After scoring 30 in the postutme, I didn't shade my Jamb reg.no. I was hoping that in the 2nd round postutme, medicine would also be there but it wasn't. I just checked UniUyo's admission list and I've been admitted to study Medicine and Surgery.

punintended: tnx bro...checking out the song ryt nw
'twas played in the key of Amin with some blues feel. Try to notice the notes used in the solo part. One beautiful thing about the song is that it's purely just a keyboard's thing.

Playing with the blues scale requires quite some skill and constant practise. I'd advice you to start by trying its application with hymns. Not all songs fit into the blues scale. Songs for it are specially composed. You can also download DOWN BY THE RIVERSIDE by Blind Boys of Alabama. With it, you might just have an insight into how it should be applied.

Dieumerci: Kudos to all of you. I intend to buy a fairly used piano as a beginner, what should I look out for? For instance, the make, model and special key? Thanks.
since you are a beginner, the basic thing you should look out for in a Piano is its simplicity. Try to avoid Pianos with too many extravagant button( Pitch bend, Octave,Transpose, Sustain, et al). When I started learning the Piano, I had the type without the transpose button( Or maybe I didn't know where it was). I'd advise you to try such pianos out. They'd make you Learn the hardway but you will play better. The only Hitch is that such pianos might be hard to get these days. And always go for a Yamaha.
