Multiple Candidates: Awka High Court Finally Restrains PDP Elements From Campaigning The vaunting ambition of Hon Mrs. Uche Ekwunife who is seeking to represent Anambra Central in the Senate and other PDP stalwarts seeking elective positions in Anambra State in the coming general elections has finally grounded to a halt following an injunction from Federal High Court 1, sitting in Awka, restraining PDP and tow others from putting up multiple candidates for one elective position in the coming elections. This followed a motion brought before Justice Ibrahim Bature Gafai by the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and two others in which the plaintiff prayed the court to restrain PDP from presenting multiple candidates for the same positions in the coming elections outside of those that were duly cleared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). APGA argued through its prosecutor, Patrick Nwankwo Ikweto, SAN, that the continued campaign for votes by PDP elements and others whose names did not appear on the INEC List was against the 1999 Constitution and the nation’s Electoral Act. The party further maintained that Section 221 of the 1999 Constitution allows only a political party to campaign for votes while section 100 (1) of the Electoral Act entitles only a candidate and his party to campaign for elections. Section 31 (3) summarily requires INEC to publish the particulars of a candidate of a party thereby making it illegal for candidates whose names were not published by INEC to campaign for elections. In his ruling, on the suit number SHC/AWK/CS/23/2015, Justice Gafai ordered the parties in dispute to maintain the status quo. Justice Gafai also ordered that all persons who are not candidates published by INEC should cease forthwith from campaigning for elections pending the determination of the substantive suit. With this legal instrument in place, all political aspirants in the state who have been campaigning for votes in absolute defiance to the new Anambra State law against illegal solicitation for votes entitled the “Breaches of the Peace and Unlawful Assemblies Law which took effect from January 20, 2015 are wilfully asking for arrest and possible prosecution. |
Even with her release, you people can still press for the damages for unlawful detention against SARS and the bank. The case is civil and has nothing to do with SARS at all |
All said... Fyi NBA is not on strike its court officials throughout the Federation that went on strike. The good news is that Federal Courts have suspended the strike and help is on the way. Trust your lawyer to deliver on Monday through an exparte application for enforcement of ur mums fundamental rights. Just pray and wait. The two judges at the Federal High Court Awka (Gafai and Abubakar) are very proactive. So you don't have much to worry about. |
Eselu oya forward march to Supreme Court. The struggle continues |
Cuche:My brother please don't continue. The less than 15% lie or mistake by you have done the job. How can write such a thing and expect informed people to read on. The voters turnout in that election was about 27%. Just add the result of the parties and divide by 1.8m times 100. FYI save when our people want to show their overwhelming support for Jonathan, results in Anambra are decided always by percentages below or around 30%. Check out Nguge vs Dora where all the candidates scored less than 150k votes where we had more than 600k regd voters; John Emeka & Margery Okadigbo vs Joy Emordi where we had about 120k votes out of more than 500k regd voters. |

FastShipping:Ever heard of publication of particulars of candidates for claims and objections? The Electoral Act makes it mandatory for INEC to publish FORM CF001 filled by all the candidates as well as the attached documents like credentials. Go to your state INEC office and you go see form tire. You sef go laugh tire |
A well deserved one. Kudos Mr. Governor. At least for giving Anambrarians tight security, you deserve an award. |
Anambra PDP Senatorial List: INEC Report Declares Chris Uba, John Emeka, Others Winners Chibuzo Ukaibe — Jan 11, 2015 | 6 Comments The controversy trailing the list of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates for the senatorial elections in Anambra State, heightened yesterday as a report from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed that Chief Chris Uba, Prince John Emeka and Senator Annie Okonkwo won the primaries for the Anambra South,Central and North Senatorial districts. This was contained in a report of the INEC team that monitored the primaries of the party in the state. The list of senatorial candidates of PDP from the state has been a subject of intense dispute. But according to a Certified True Copy (CTC) of the committee’s report obtained by LEADERSHIP Sunday, the INEC headquarter led by Chika Okafor an assistant director in the commission, Adam Dan-Shuaibu a principal admin officer and Joy Uba a senior executive officer, the PDP primaries in the state conducted on the December 7 under the Chief Ejike Oguebego leadership was very peaceful and witnessed a smooth sail. The report further reads: “Generally speaking, the Peoples Democratic Party primaries did not come short of expectations as it took place peacefully in all the senatorial constituencies in the state. The result of the primaries was generally accepted by the members of the party as the correct expression of their collective wishes and desires. It would also be pertinent to say at this juncture that, that Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Anambra State chapter did comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2010 (as amended) as well as their laid down congresses/primaries guidelines and the Constitution. According to the preamble of the PDP guidelines for primary elections 2014, it is clearly stipulated that candidates of political parties will only emerge through primary elections duly conducted and monitored by INEC (Section 87(1) (a). Political parties are no longer allowed to change or substitute candidates whose names have been submitted to INEC, except in the case of death or withdrawal of candidates (Section 33). The INEC committee in its report to the commission further stated that the PDP adopted open ballot system otherwise known as option A4 to elect their senatorial flag bearers and that during the primaries, the voting process was simple and straightforward, firstly nominations were called for, after which delegates queued up and voted for candidates of their choice before counting and recording of scores were done. The contestant with the simple majority of votes cast was declared the winner”. Source: leadership |
The town has both urban and rural areas. I cant answer to the whether the town is Superclean or whatever. As for me, I was only seeing human beings. But if you may wish to drop the name of your town and its carnival pics, then we can make comparisons. |
mensdept:There were native costumes worn by those on the frontline but I couldn't get their pics because I was way behind. The event is not that old, yet it's taking shapes fast. I just want us to appreciate the turnout and the potential of such carnival to grow bigger and better |

Thank God for the progress in Abia thread. Let us continue working and praying for the development of all parts of Igbo land. Peace ✌ |
Cuche:Talking as if you know who the candidates of PDP are. Are you the only one who doesn't know that PDP has 3 or more candidates for each post in this election . Can you tell who amongst Chris Ubah, Andy Ubah, Obinna Uzoh or Chuma Nzeribe is the PDP candidate for Anambra South? All of them are claiming victory while INEC says its sticking with Chris Ubah faction. I think ur conclusions on how the APGA candidates are inferior would have waited until the inec says the persons u mentioned are the candidates! And can you tell me one aspirant that was cheated out, in the senatorial race, in APGA. Or the ones that could have been better but didn't make it because they were not Umeh's friends. Let truth be our watchword in this forum as we don't gain anything by deceiving our brothers. Would have said more on this but i had to strike a balance between correcting an erroneous impression and derailing this our wonderful thread. BTW, If anybody creates a thread on the strength and weaknesses of the candidates in Anambra, we meet there. |

Willie Obiano is expanding the Road from Aguleri junction towards Ayamelum to Enugu State border and is also adding gutters. The contractor doing the job is Doliz Constructions. I'll get you the pictures within the week. |
