Culture / We Should Support Initiatives To Promote Various Nigerian Cultures by Gannzter(m): 8:09am On Mar 18, 2013
We recently started a blog to promote the Yoruba culture aptly called http://theyorubablog.com

The blog is supposed to show case Yoruba folklore, Yoruba stories and so on. The problem I'm finding is that it seems nearly impossible to trigger interest in traditional issues. Why don't people realize that Nigerian languages can only be preserved if we write them down - writing about our modern experiences in our old tongue? How is it not obvious that culture is preserved very heavily by language?

I will be happy if readers of this post visit the site and say what is being done wrong by posting here, or of course, share ideas for what people want to see on a blog that would both promote Yoruba culture and intrigue young people enough for them to keep coming back.

Career / Re: Will My American Law Degree Be Recognized In Nigeria? by Gannzter(m): 7:59pm On Feb 07, 2011
@Wallie
Your JD "IS" recognized by the Nigerian Law School, but you have to spend time in Law School like anyone else. Unlike students with local LLB's though, you have to spend 2 years instead of one and you also need to take part in a compulsory internship, supervised by the Law School.
Career / Re: Will My American Law Degree Be Recognized In Nigeria? by Gannzter(m): 8:13am On Feb 06, 2011
@LadyJ75*

Have you tried joining the Nigerian Lawyers Association in New York?

They have strong connections to the Nigerian legal community as most of their members are also members of the Nigerian Bar Association. They are very open to networking Nigerian lawyers with JD's such as yourself.

Me sef wan network and unlike the other brother wey dey drop in email say in fit find u job Ima just drop it onn ya live, send me a message make we hooked up wink!!! (Okay maybe that was silly)
Education / Re: Info On Nigerian Law School by Gannzter(m): 8:05am On Feb 06, 2011
* You must have a law degree to be admitted to the Nigerian Law School (NLS).
* As has been noted, the dotrinal law courses are the same everywhere, and you need to have taken them to be admitted to the bar (torts, contracts, evidence, crim. law etc.)
* With a foreign law degree the NLS insists that you enroll in a two year program that involves a good deal of internship.
Nairaland / General / Re: Are All Nonprofit Organizations In Nigeria Really Just Gangs Of Thieves? by Gannzter(m): 4:19pm On Nov 02, 2009
As for excluding people, JCCC's Mission is to provide dignified resting places for all irrespective of means or social status.

If people don't want our services because we have the word "Christian" in our name, we can't help that, but we would try to bring our good services to everyone. Hopefully we might get our own equivalent of the "Red Crescent"
Nairaland / General / Re: Are All Nonprofit Organizations In Nigeria Really Just Gangs Of Thieves? by Gannzter(m): 4:16pm On Nov 02, 2009
Thanks for keeping it real guys. However, the truth is that all registered religious bodies are nonprofits, the fact remains though that many of the religious bodies do give nonprofits a bad name in Nigeria, yet can one cut off his nose to spite his face.

Religion is an important part of Societies fabric whether we like it or not, and the fact that there are so many that do evil in Sheep clothing cannot mean all nonprofits are bad. Take Christian Aid or the Red Cross, surely their affiliation with religion does not make them completely useless, evil, hypocritical or crooked.

The questions raised initially are not answered yet.

Can we all just ignore the religious bit of any nonprofit and look at them for what they do. As for http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org please read their mission statement and if you want to know why you might need a nonprofit in the burial/cemetery scene please go to your nearest public cemetery if you have the heart and compare it to Ridgewood Memorial Park as seen in the report found here http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org/cms2/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2&Itemid=13

To discuss about what a nonprofit is doing with cemeteries please lets go to the http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org blog.

For this post though, can we say more about nonprofits in Nigeria and the few good ones. Positive Energy PEEPS!!
Nairaland / General / Are All Nonprofit Organizations In Nigeria Really Just Gangs Of Thieves? by Gannzter(m): 2:57pm On Nov 02, 2009
The reflects only a bit of what this post is about as it was selected more or less for its shock factor. However, it might be so true that it would not even shock most Nigerians. In all fairness most of those that end up at the Corporate Affairs Commission to register nonprofit organizations are there primarily to either make plenty of illegitimate money from donor funds or to squander and launder funds that have been stolen from the main sector in Nigeria (the Government).

At the NPO where I work however (http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org) we know the importance of integrity and indeed it is at the heart of our organization. However, in our day to day activity with have to deal with a ridiculous amount of skepticism. Such skepticism towards nonprofits is not only found in Nigeria or the Developing World, neither is it unfounded.

Where are the good nonprofits actually doing good work?

Why is there no section for nonprofits on Nairaland Nigeria's most famous blog and local online meeting place?

Are all the nonprofits in Nigeria just to busy with using donor money to buy flashy cars?

There needs to place where the numerous passionate workers in the nonprofit sector of Nigeria can discuss the issues we have to face. Please feel free to join the blog on http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org that tries to cater for such things.

Are there any other Nigerian websites out there that cater for the nonprofit world?

Nairaland / General / Re: Is Anyone Brave Enough To Talk About Death? by Gannzter(m): 9:15am On Oct 12, 2009
@Edoyad, thank you so much for your more than 1 line reply.

It is highly interesting, your stance on letting the dead be especially considering the empirical nature of your comments and observations. Yes, i do agree with you quite a bit. Yet, I know that almost like for living humans, the dead continue to live on if we keep their memories alive (or as we say in<a href=http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org>JCCC memorialize</a> the dead).

Keeping their memories alive is one thing, but think of another, is it not sad that like all of our other social amenities/utilities they fall into complete disarray? Should the living not be upset with graves being recycled, robbed or dirty? I think we can worry for the dead for the sake of the living.
Nairaland / General / Re: Is Anyone Brave Enough To Talk About Death? by Gannzter(m): 10:44am On Oct 11, 2009
How come all of you only have this sad little 1 liners because the subject is death. If it how to win US Visa lottery and beat the system now all of you go begin write epistles.

Say your true mind peeps. This is nairaland and no one would crucify or judge you.

P.s. Has anyone had an direct bad experience with public or private cemeteries?
Nairaland / General / Re: Is Anyone Brave Enough To Talk About Death? by Gannzter(m): 8:36am On Oct 08, 2009
Please my people, we are eagerly seeking people who have had any direct bad experiences with Nigerian cemeteries in order to campaign for change. Please post here or email info@jcccmemorialparks.org

Nairaland / General / Is Anyone Brave Enough To Talk About Death? by Gannzter(m): 12:52pm On Oct 06, 2009
The mortality rate in Nigeria is somewhere close to 45. What this means is that someone close to you would die before the age of 50 (all things being equal and staying the way they are). How come no one is then willing to talk about preparing for the final end. It is probably because of this lack of willingness to talk of the final end that Nigeria's public cemeteries are the way they are right now. In sad, morbid, decrepit states suitable not even for dead people.

If change is going to come, we need to start talking about the issue. Who is responsible for the way things are in our cemeteries?

A nonprofit organization has been set up to change the status quo, http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org is the website and there is a blog set up for discussing the issue of death and being buried.

NLANDERS, lend me your thoughts!!!
Programming / Re: Which Programming Language Holds Brighter Prospects In Nigeria by Gannzter(m): 12:27pm On Oct 06, 2009
As far as web development goes, PHP and MySQL rules the world in my humble opinion. Handling everything from forms, galleries, flash, database building and quering - not to mention the best CMS are built with PHP. After HTML, if you dont understand php, you are lost!!. PERIOD - FULL STOP

For the development of programs however, thats another story: PHP (is certainly not in the picture here) but I wanted to build a simple program the other day and somewhere between Java and C++ I couldnt quite get what I wanted. The answer should be easy to find: For php the logic is that some of the most used websites are Php based - websites like Facebook for instance. How about programmes, what language was used to build your favourite programs, me I'm a gamer: so I know it probably is beyond one language to be the ONE.

Hi Naira landers,

I have the information from Good authority, that the company JCCC memorial parks ltd by guarantee is looking for staff in different key positions. For more information, visit their website (jcccmemorialparks.org) or google JCCC memorial parks. They would soon be announcing for new vacancies so if you consider yourself an HR, Communications or Project management pro and you are not put of by their industry, investigate what they do and get ready,

Fellow Naira landers,

I have information from an inside source that a new NGO/NPO is about to begin recruiting for HR, Communications and R&grin personnel. The organization has solid funding behind it and is a unique niche of its own.

I recommend that we start researching about the company now, so that when the opportunity arises (very very soon) we will be prepared to take it.

You can visit their website at http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org or http://www.jcccmemorialparks.org/cms

Technology Market / Re: Computer Village (Ikeja) Price Guide by Gannzter(m): 12:52pm On Jan 19, 2009
Hi all,

This is one of the very reasons why I joined the move by http://www.Pro-Activevision.biz to publish a magazine called the "Computer Village Mag", We published our maiden edition late last year and now we are preparing to release the first of 6 editions this year on the 25th of January, 09.

At the backpages of the magazine, we are insisting on placing the prices of items in Nigeria's ICT industry, which includes prices in computer village, Ikeja. The magazine is not affiliated to Computer Village in Ikeja but we want to keep the legacy of the name and everything positive that the market stood for all Nigerian techies.

Please visit http://www.computervillage-mag.com , place your email in the boxes below to download a free copy of our magazine, "The Collectors edition*" and please let us have your feedback ASAP at feedback@computervillage-mag.com

Webmasters / Ikeja Computer Village And Its New Web Friends by Gannzter(m): 11:45am On Dec 15, 2008
Computer Village is probably Nigeria's most popular market for IT related goods and services. Yet, the term "Computer village" remains an informal reference to a cluster of shops and stores in the heart of Ikeja. Thus, no surprise that the iconic name has been adopted by a few upcoming businesses in Nigeria's IT industry.

Please see http://www.computervillageng.com
or http://www.computervillage-mag.com

These guys attempt to, or offer wonderful services, but ethically, is there any unspoken rules broken by them? do they infringe on the entity popularly known in Nigeria as computer Village?

It has to be noted that http://www.computervillage.com is registered by an American outfit. Thus, is there any reasonable cause for a clash in interest between Ikeja's market and any other entity that uses the name which it is popularly known as?

See the above websites, look into what they do, is there a clash?

http://www.Computervillage-mag.com is particularly interesting as it is actually the website of a new and innovative magazine now in circulation known simply by that name.
