The APC candidate likely will clear edo central. He is a grass root politician in Esan and he will perform poorly in edo south. In edo north oshomhole may help him get overwhelming majority. All the APC needs is for LP and PDP to cancel each other in edo south

There’s a guiding principle for rigging which is that “you only rig where you are popular”.

Now, PDP and APC have equal stakes in Edo Central which will make it difficult for either party rigging there.

PDP and LP are popular in the Edo South which will make it almost impossible for APC to rig.

That automatically restricts their rigging (if they can) to Edo North. And I was trying to tell you that it’s not even everywhere they can rig in Edo North.

APC is also popular in Edo south particularly in ovia and orhiomnwon axis where they can easily rig because of the terrain.the voters of Benin city axis are unpredictable but for now,they obidients.it is very difficult to rig here.

Even if things come down to rigging, the only place APC has even the closest capacity of rigging is in Edo North. But even in that Edo North, it would be restricted to just Etsako axis because PDP is strong in Owan and now in Akoko Edo with the Deputy Governor now from there. How can you rig in the Deputy Governor’s LGA with all the men he would be controlling now?

Now, even in the Etsako axis, remember APC is going up against a PDP with structure backed by a sitting governor. You really think you can rig against that structure?

If there’s anyone that would rig Edo election, it would be Obaseki. Remember the FG was backing the SDP candidate in the last Kogi election but couldn’t deliver him. APC would be living in fool’s paradise to think they’d outrig Obaseki, an incumbent governor.

The leadership and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo South Senatorial District under the auspices of Legacy Coalition Group on Friday vowed to resist Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki and reject his anointed guber Candidate, Asue Ighodalo in the forthcoming governorship election.

The Peoples Democratic Party Edo South Senatorial District Legacy Coalition Group said Obaseki failed to fulfill promises made to the group during his re-election in 2020.

Addressing Edo South PDP Legacy Coalition leaders and supporters during a stakeholders meeting in Benin, a former PDP governorship aspirant, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama said the mistake of 2020 will not repeat itself again in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo.

He accused Obaseki of betrayal saying all the agreements reached with Obaseki by the leadership of the party ahead of the governor’s defection to PDP four years ago were unfulfilled.

“The ticket we gave to Obaseki free of Charge, he has used it in the last four years to punish all of us. Now, we are going to decide this election. Enough is enough.”Ogbeide-Ihama said.

Ogbeide-Ihama noted that he not only worked for the victory of Obaseki having served as his Returning officer but also stepped down for him to emerge as the party’s Gubernatorial candidate.

He called on the party’s supporters across the 7 Local Government Councils that make up the Senatorial district to shun the Obaseki led PDP faction saying the latter neglected them since 2020 despite their overwhelming support for him.

“In 2020, I was the Returning Officer to Governor Godwin Obaseki. The ticket I gave Obaseki Free of Charge and I followed it up at the INEC collation centre.

“In 2020 during the election, I was on national Television when they wanted to do ‘wayo’ and change the result in Ovia South West Local Government and Orhionmwon Local Government Councils.

“The videos are available for everybody to see. We will begin to play them let everybody see the extent to which I went for Obaseki. I slept in collation centre because of Obaseki , when they said counting will stop and continue the next day. I didn’t want story the next day which is tomorrow because story may enter the results.

“We will not allow the mistakes of 2020 to repeat itself again. Please take this message home. “Ogbeide-Ihama said.

On his part, Nosa Ogieva, Chairman Edo South PDP Legacy Coalition urged leaders and members of 7 LGAs that make up Edo South Senatorial District to remain dedicated and continue to pledge their unwavering support to the Legacy Coalition of the PDP.

“The meeting was called to discuss and look into the future and for us to have the same mind as one united members of the party,” he said.

Chairman PDP Legacy Coalition in Egor LGA, Nosa Adams said, “We in Egor , we have decided. Obaseki came to meet us in PDP. He said he doesn’t want you members as ward executives. He said he wants to replace all of u. Will you allow it?

Egor remains loyal to PDP Legacy Coalition. “

In his speech, Oredo LGA Chairman PDP Legacy Coalition, Mr. Martins Osakwe pledged his supoort for the group .

He said in 2020 they didn’t want the APC under Oshiomhole to disgrace Godwin Obaseki hence they massively supported and voted Obaseki.

“APC cannot disgrace our son like this when he came to us. So, we asked our son Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama to step down for Obaseki. Now, he is pursuing our son, what do we do? We will stand with our son, Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama .

Oba knows how dirty politics is and as a seasoned diplomat, he only advises politicians.

Oba will not instruct anybody who to vote.

Nobody does tacit support. Edo has some of the most sophisticated voters. What we saw in Benin, Lagos and Abuja in 2023 presidential election were not instructed by Oba of Benin. Those three places just have some of the most single-minded, educated and sophisticated voters. This is the future trend where politicians must sit up and take the youth seriously.

He will benefit from his late father goodwill and take a chunk of Benin votes paving way for APC

Akpata miscalculated big time in his choice of deputy and I’m surprised he did that.

Sergius Ogun for instance is a brilliant and refined young man that would have come with a lot of political capital.

Rice Man too seems to have his little weight to throw around but Akpata ignored these guys and chose a non-entity. He hasn’t won the governorship and prioritizing someone who wouldn’t give him headache in power.

Or is it that he wanted to appeal to female voters? If that was his aim, I’m not seeing it happening because the woman he chose seems like she can only bring her own vote alone. It’s just like Datti to Obi’s ticket.

But I just saw a video of the Oba of Benin opening Akpata’s project yesterday. You know what that means? That’s a tacit endorsement. And once the Oba dispatches instruction for Benin people to vote Akpata, not even Idahosa nor the SSG running mate to Asue can change anything.

What I could get out of this is that in the end, APC and PDP might end up canceling each other out in Edo Central while Akpata gets bloc votes from the South and make up numbers from whatever he’s able to get from the Central and North.

LP didn’t miscalculate after all. And just imagine Akpata had a more popular running mate, things would have been easier.
