senator urhoghide is a popular politician and yes the president he is very interested in ss, very very interested,I really pity those in the opposition parties. Well let's see how the election will pan out.....

Anything can happen,it is early days though the earlier the better.first impression matters.pdp leader in owan east fetus ewuh decamped to APC.an ssa to obaseki hon Felix ibhade just resigned from esan central LGA.
APC in Edo has different camps and divisions but all are eagerly working to deliver okpebholo.
Last week,a community in Oredo disgraced pdp campaign team.i heard asue and obaseki have started quarelling already over campaign strategy

honestly in my opinion and from what I know from future decampees.....tinubu's move will be seen from end of the year and January next year so he is very careful involving himself in state elections and he is playing a different kind of politics.

Oga,tinubu usually plans early that is why he is the best politician.his 2027 reelection started the day he was declared winner.tinubu needs to make more inroads into SS and NC Incase the core north disappoints him that is why he is being careful in rivers and is friendly with all SS governors except obaseki.
Senator Urhoghide a strong man in Edo pdp decamped to APC,hon idahosa a board of trustees member yesterday resigned and from indications is joining APC.hon Kabiru adjoto is about decamping,he is pdp strongest man in akoko edo.the Ezomon of Uromi has decsmped to APC,he controls ward 7 of esan north east LGA.the lp leader in edo central rejected 50 million from pdp and join apc.8 former chairman in edo south just decamped to apc.all indications are pointing to an apc victory

Politics / Only 108 Senators Can Decide Ningi's Fate-senate by garfield1: 1:01pm On Apr 30
The Senate has said that its president, Godswill Akpabio, has no power to recall suspended Senator Abdul Ningi (Bauchi Central), adding that only the 108 lawmakers can do so.

Ningi was slammed with a three-month suspension after he alleged budget padding amounting to N3.7 trillion, an allegation the Senate denied.

The Senate, presided over by Akpabio, slammed a three-month suspension on Ningi on 13 March 2024 before proceeding on recess.

The Senate resumes plenary today and there have been concerns over Ningi’s fate.

Ningi’s lawyer, Mr Femi Falana, had earlier written to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, asking him to reinstate the lawmaker.

But the lawyer to Akpabio also responded that it was a senate decision and not Akpabio’s decision, as he was only a presiding officer.

But speaking to journalists yesterday before the resumption of the senate, the senate spokesman, Yemi Adaramodu, said Ningi offended the senate, adding that it was a disciplinary action taken against him by the entire lawmakers.

“There was an infraction occasioned by the actions of our respected colleague, Senator Abdul Ningi which made the senate in an open public session, where he was allowed to defend himself and for senators to talk on it, debated on it, then at the end of the day it was found that an infraction had occurred.

“And 109 senators except Senator Ningi now decided that Senator Ningi would be given a light disciplinary declaration which gave him a three month suspension from parliamentary activities.

“So, it is only 108 senators that took that action that can call Senator Ningi back,” Adaramodu said.

Adaramodu further said, “Yes, like I said, we have been on plenary break for about four weeks. So, when we resume, he’s our colleague, if he makes a plea, then the senators will now look at it and then we take it on the merit of it.

“When we were not in the chamber, there have been so many insinuations, there has been a report that a letter has been written by the counsel to Senator Ningi compelling the senate president to recall Ningi within seven days.

“And then when I was asked a question I said, it’s not a matter of Senator Ningi versus Senator Akpabio. It’s Senator Ningi versus the rest of the senators. So, it is not Senator Akpabio, though our president, that took the action unilaterally and solely to suspend Senator Ningi,” Adaramodu added.

He also said, “So it could not behoove him to be the one who will now answer questions on the actions of all the senators, that all the senators will ask questions on their behalf by the time we resume the plenary.

“We will resume plenary tomorrow, so if the matter comes up, either directly or indirectly, either voluntarily or involuntarily, then we sit down together in the chamber and then we look at it on its merit and consider an action to be taken. That’s what is happening about Senator Ningi’s matter for now.”

On the issue of Ovie Omo-Agege who was suspended on allegations of mace theft and the court rules that a lawmaker can’t be suspended for more than two months, Adaramodu said, “I’m not in a court of law.”

“The issue of Senator Omo-Agege and this one is distinctly very different. Secondly, for every organisation, either elected organisation, appointed organisation, or statutory organisation, the Civil Service is a statutory organisation, the judiciary is a statutory organisation, then they have bodies that can discipline members.

“The NJC will sit down if there are complaints about any of the members in the judiciary. They sit down and then they give pronouncements. They are not hampered. The civil service, that is the Civil Service Commission, civil servants are employed statutorily and nobody can tamper with their tenure too.

“But there is a Civil Service Commission and they have their disciplinary arm that when one errs definitely, disciplinary actions can be taken. Now, can we find an organisation where there won’t be any discipline? Then are we saying that the arm of government that we call the legislature is so deregulated in authority, in action, in operation, in the instrumentality of organizational discipline, that when a member now does anything that can imperil either the corporate integrity or individual integrity of that organisation they cannot be disciplined? No,” Adaramodu said, adding that Ningi’s constituencies won’t be shortchanged.

“If it is either 14 days by law or two days by law discipline is discipline. That’s one aspect. The second aspect is this; as a legislator, you are elected to perform various roles. We have said it here, the only role that disciplinary action can curtail you from performing is sitting down with your colleagues in the chamber.

“Now, what we are saying is this. Anything that will make him sit down with other legislators, if he’s going to be made to sit down with other legislators in oversight, then it’s barred. If it’s going to be made to sit down with the colleagues in the chamber, that disciplined member will be barred.

“But if you advocate for your consistency by going there, have meetings with them, talk to them, attend meetings with them, you are not barred. But what we are saying is that can you run an organization without discipline? If there is going to be discipline, then what is going to be the quality of the discipline vis-a-vis the enormity of the offence that you have committed,” Adaramodu asked.

Bizibi:
Edo politics is way different from the other Niger Delta states and Godwin obaseki is a good political strategist, the only way Apc will win Edo state is if tinubu is fully involved (not playing hide and seek games but fully involved)so as it is now PDP position is still solid. I grew up in Edo state,I know how they play their politics. As for oshiomole,he was popular in Edo state but the last election has limited his influence to the north....

Tinubu is more focused on the next presidential election than any state election now,he has started creating new alliances and some of them are from lp and PDP. He told one he needs votes from his region in his state because he lost there in the last election so that politician is definitely decamping this year.

Edo election is the most unpredictable in ss,the voters are very independent, enlightened and sophisticated.tinubu will be involved but mainly through his lieutenants.dont forget that obaseki insulted him in his campaign in 2020 and tinubu hardly forgives.
Tinubu first step to victory is to capture more states for APC starting from Edo and where he can't,he makes alliances across party lines.he needs Edo to add to CRS to make it two for APC.
The pdp in Edo is already divided into three camp.onky the obaseki camp is working for ighodalo and you saw how pdp lost woefully in Edo in last polls.most of the factors that worked in favour of pdp are now working against them.wike and his camp are against him,the godfatherism obaseki used to win reelection is now haunting him,his woeful performance, massive defections from pdp etc.oshio base is limited to Edo north but pdp has no base.esan is now divided.lp have divided pdp votes

presidency hasn't shown real interest. You will know from the actions of the Apc national chairman and I have not heard anything from Apc camps in abj. It is going to be an interesting election but Godwin obaseki is no pushover, some of us thought he was a weak politician but now we understand why oshiomole supported and made him a governor.

You haven't been paying close attention.the presidency intervened twice in Edo APC primaries.in imo, bayelsa and kogi primaries, despite the massive outcry over the primary result, the presidency kept mute but in Edo,after the first primary that held and oshiomhole candidate won, they assured oshiomhole that everything is ok but suddenly cancelled it.dont forget that oshiomhole is tinubu no 1 man in ss.in the second primary, somebody other than oshio person won and it stood.
The APC candidate wanted to choose hon ihama as his running mate but the party forcefully imposed hon idahosa the candidate of oshiomhole on him.whar does that tell you?

Politics / Re: Why I Increased Minimum Wage To N70,000 — Obaseki by garfield1: 7:35am On Apr 30
Chinjo2:
Obaseki has truly desmonstrated what leadership is all about.
At a time when other state governors are complaining that they can't pay 30k minimum wage, Obaseki was paying 40k without owning any worker or pensioner.
Now he has once again raised the bar by increasing it to 70 whereas the Federal government are still going back and forth.

Government can increase minimum wage to reflect the present economic situation without setting up any committee. Just see the analysis of how Obaseki arrived at the new minimum wage.

If not for looting, wickedness and greed, the Federal and all state governors can comfortably pay 100k as minimum wage and heaven will not fall. Just see how much Emefiele, Betta Edu and Yahaya Bello alone stole.

My dear people of Edo state, this is how a Governor should spend the states money and not by using it to service political leaders.

Vote Asue Ighodalo to take Edo state to the next level. Say no to all those political buccaneers parading themselves as career politicians and leaders. Edo state must be govern by technocrats who would see salary as a right of workers and not a privilege.

Nobody is voting asue except you

Call it Pre election gimmick or whatever. This is a very good for people of Edo state. Especially the civil servants there. When the country was getting hard, he increased it to 40k now the country is very hard. He has gone 70k. This means he feels the pulse of the people! Also, he could have kept these money and use it to buy votes! So I think he has done well with this policy

True though his party will still lose

Political neophytes will read meanings to this sort of resignation. I remember in 2020, several people including commissioners and aides to Obaseki resigned before election and many thought Obaseki was going to lose. Out of the over 2.5 million registered voters in Edo, less than 500k belonged to any political party. The majority who are not in any party will decide who becomes the governor.

Oga,the indices are different.bavk then,APC was divided and pdp was united.obaseki was going for reelection and shuaibu and wike where with him.what idahosa said is what most people in Edo are saying "the next governor must be a homeboy"

The worst thing that can happen to the people of Edo is to allow the APC to take over the state. Not with the candidate who failed WAEC at 36. They are better off with the PDP. The PDP candidate is more credible.
The APC has nothing to offer. Look at what they have done to the country. It's going to be a double tragedy for the people of Edo to allow the APC snatch and grab Edo State.

Exam is not the true stage of knowledge.okpebholo is a better leader.apc has ruled Edo better than pdp so they will remain with apc
