In a statement that will anger supporters of Peter Obi, the Tinubu Campaign Organisation’s director of media and communications, Bayo Onanuga, has described Peter Obi as a social media creation. In an interview with Punch Newspaper, the veteran journalist said the Labour Party presidential candidate will fade within the next five months.

Going further, he insisted that the north will not fail the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) because of Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 presidential election.

He said:

"I don’t know why some people have stereotypes about the North. Don’t cast them in the image that they are not. This is the same North as in 1993, when the son of the soil, Tofa, under the NRC, challenged him, but late MKO (Abiola) from Ogun State beat him in Kano and other northern states, excluding Adamawa. "To say the North is supporting Atiku is to daydream. Don’t forget that Bola Tinubu is not just Bola Tinubu. He is Bola Tinubu of the APC. The APC is on the ground in all the states. We are stronger in the North than even in the South, and Tinubu is their candidate. We believe that they are going to stick with him and vote for him. Atiku is from Adamawa and may get some sympathy votes, but it won’t be enough to upstage Bola Tinubu. We are not afraid."

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has said that it is quite shameful that Nigeria still imports fuel despite being one of the largest producers of crude oil in the world.



Obaseki said this in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State, at the 10-year remembrance service of Chief Jeremiah Ighodalo, father of Chairman of Sterling Bank Plc, Dr. Asue Ighodalo.



He said;



“The continuous importation of fuel into the nation is a patriotic shame to Nigeria.

“As one of the largest producers of crude oil in the African continent, Nigeria has no business importing fuel into the country. It’s a shame we are still importing fuel.

"As a nation, we should not be importing fuel at this point in our life. It’s a patriotic shame borrowing from the words of Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adiche.”

A Plateau State high court has discharged and acquitted former Governor Jonah Jang of the N6.3 billion fraud allegations levelled against him.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had filed 17-count charges against Jang and the Former Cashier to the Office of Secretary to Plateau Government, Yusuf Pam.

Among the charges were the alleged diversion of N2 billion provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for empowering youths and women on small and medium scale enterprises and misappropriation/diversion of funds meant for the State Universal basic education (SUBEB).

In a ruling on Friday, Justice Christy Dabup, said the EFCC could not prove the misappropriation, diversion and public funds entrusted to the former Governor.

The court then squashed all the charges labelled against the former Governor and the government cashier, saying that it lacked merit.

Nigeria's election has humbled APC.

This is as the APC national chairman, Senator Abdullahi Adamu says the 2023 elections will be the toughest in Nigeria’s history.

“We are going into one of the toughest elections Nigeria has ever had. The 2023 elections will be scientific and the BVAS don’t recognise any one; they only recognise the PVCs,” Adamu stated.

The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has accused the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, of whipping up sentiments through the church.

Obi, who is fast gaining popularity, especially on social media, has made several visits to churches, where he was warmly received.

In an interview with Daily Trust and select media outlets in Kano, Okowa said the church should not be dragged into politics.

Responding to a question on the allegation by some that his emergence as vice presidential candidate of the PDP was a betrayal to the south especially with Obi’s increasing popularity in the zone, Okowa said it was unfortunate that people hang on to anything even to the detriment of their fate.


“Now you begin to look at what is going on; the Peter Obi factor is as if he is trying to go through the church and make it look as if he is driving the Christians into politics. I do not believe that the church should actively go into politics because that is not their calling.

“But people are just hanging to anything they can reach out to even to the detriment of their fate. I don’t believe that’s the right part to go,” he said.

The Delta state governor made the remark on the sideline of his visit to the state along with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to receive former Kano state governor, Senator Ibrahim Shekarau into the party and also engage with other party and other stakeholders.

President Muhammadu Buhari has launched the Nigeria End Malaria Council (NEMC).

The 16 member council, led by Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, was inaugurated on Tuesday at the state house, Abuja.

The high-level council of individuals from public and private sector, convened by President Buhari will oversee the country’s journey towards malaria elimination and ensure that sufficient resources are available to achieve it.

Saratu’s arithmetic prowess recently went viral on social media platforms, with her ability to quickly provide mathematical solutions attracting the admiration of many.

On Wednesday in Kano, Aliyu Yusuf, AGILE Project Communication Officer, said that the project’s National Office had directed its Kano office to identify the girl and enroll her in school.

“Coincidentally, the Kano AGILE Project team is on an advocacy visit to the five emirate councils in the state, with a view to soliciting for their support, being critical stakeholders in the promotion of adolescent girls’ education.

“During the team’s visit to Gaya Emirate Council, the girl and her parents were invited to the emir’s palace.

“Representatives of the state ministry of education and the AGILE team briefed the Emir, Alhaji Ali Ibrahim-Abdulkadir, on the intention of the project to shoulder the educational responsibilities of the young girl,” he said.

According to him, the representative of the ministry, Haruna Muhammad-Panidau, presented school uniform, a bag and other learning materials to the young talented girl.

Mr Yusuf said that the Kano Project Coordinator, Ado Tafida-Zango, also presented N20,000 to the girl to support her education.

Saratu told a NAN Correspondent, who visited her hometown, Gwadahi village in Gaya, that she dropped out of school in Primary Four after which she embraced street hawking.

“I am good at mathematics, whether addition, subtraction, division or multiplication. I can calculate numbers in millions of heads, without writing or using a calculator.

“I left school because of bullying. My peers used to call me names which I detested.

“I will not go back to that school. I’ll be happy to continue my studies in another school, away from them,” she said.
