Neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi will be in attendance at FIFA’s The Best awards on Monday night, say reports. Ronaldo is on a three-man shortlist for the men’s Player of 2018 award alongside former Real Madrid teammate Luka Modric and Liverpool's Mo Salah, while Messi was surprisingly excluded. A panel selected by FIFA, including Fabio Capello, Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard, will decide upon a winner which will be announced at the ceremony in London. Ronaldo will reportedly not attend due to his participation in Juventus’s 2-0 victory at Frosinone on Sunday evening, in which he scored, while he will face Bologna on Wednesday. Reports in Cadena Cope and El Mundo Deportivo now say Messi, who is shortlisted for the Puskas Award for the best goal due to his strike against Nigeria in the World Cup, will not attend due to family reasons.

Barcelona will appeal against the red
card shown to Clement Lenglet in the
club's 2-2 draw with Girona on Sunday
after coach Ernesto Valverde
expressed his surprise at the decision. The 23-year-old defender clashed with Girona midfielder Pere Pons just after the half hour mark at Camp Nou and was adjudged to have used his elbow by the referee Jesus Gil Manzano – after the official had consulted VAR. Valverde claimed Lenglet used his elbow to protect himself and described the incident as "never a sending off", before the club confirmed its intention to challenge the decision. "Barcelona will present an appeal to the Competition Committee for the red card shown to the player Clement Lenglet in the 34th minute of Sunday's game at Camp Nou against Girona," a statement read. "The French defender was dismissed after a review using VAR and according to the referee's report for 'elbowing an opponent when both players were challenging for the ball.'"

Football star, Saido Berahino appears to be
performing better in the bedroom than on the
pitch as he has been named the father on two
birth certificates – born on May 30 and July 17
The Stoke City striker, who has scored just one
goal in 913 days is currently embroiled in a legal
battle over having fathered a hat-trick of children
in less than two months. The 25 year old footie ace who has fathered more kids than he has scored goals is also alleged to be the father of another baby born on July 15. Mum No 1 is ex-fiancee Stephania Christoforou, who gave birth to son Costa on May 30 at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. Mum No 2 is an African-born nurse aged 28, a childhood pal of Berahino. She welcomed a baby girl on July 15 at Manor Hospital, Walsall. Although she did not name him on the birth certifcate, it is gathered she is in talks with the footballer and his lawyers. Mom number three is US model, Chelsea Lovelace who gave birth just two days after Saido Berahino’s ‘second baby’. She has been spotted in the footballer’s house earlier this year. She gave birth to Aniya Marie on July 17, also at Manor Hospital, Walsall. Berahino was able to end his goal drought this season when he netted a goal for his team, Stoke in their 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Huddersfield in August.

It had been a tough few months for Ousmane
Dembele. His mega-money move to Barcelona
drew huge attention due to the €105m the club
had to splash out to secure his signature. Many
outside viewers thought this was a ridiculous
price for such a young player but Barca wanted
their man and made sure they got him. After a difficult start to life at the club he was then ruled out for four months with a hamstring tear, meaning he could never force his way into the side that lost just one game in a stonking La Liga campaign and only made 24 appearances across all competitions, way short of what he would have hoped for. However, this is a man with the potential to become the best player in the world. His form at Rennes as an 18-year-old was unbelievable with 12 goals in 26 league games, lots of those coming from the bench. His dribbling qualities and ridiculous pace are two assets the make him one of the most dangerous forwards in world football but it is his two-footedness that makes him a unique talent, one we have not seen for many years. Nobody knows what foot is his stronger one, not even the Frenchman! He says he is ‘more left-footed’ but takes penalties with his right foot as he shoots better with his right. The stats seem to back Dembele up, he has now been involved in 34 first-team goals with his ‘weaker’ right foot, compared with 31 with his left! His staggering right-footed strike against PSV Eindhoven after a wonderful turn gave him his fifth goal in six games this season, having netted three in four in the league as well as a thumping winner in the Supercopa against Sevilla. This is a huge season for Ousmane Dembele as he seems to have finally settled at Barca and struck up a decent understanding with his teammates. Who knows which foot will end up with more goals at the end of the season.

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has laughed off Antoine Griezmann's Ballon d'Or claims after the Atletico Madrid forward compared himself to Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Griezmann said he is "at the top" in football and asked whether he was dining at the same table as Messi, he said: "Yes, I think so." Ramos hit back, and told Griezmann he needs to learn from his senior teammates and coach. "Ignorance makes you very bold," Ramos told a news conference ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League opener against Roma. "When I hear this guy talk, I think of the likes of Totti, Buffon, Maldini, Raul, Xavi, Iniesta, Iker, they've won a lot of titles at home and none of them won a Ballon d'Or. "Everyone's free to give their opinion. He needs to be advised by [Diego Simeone], [Diego] Godin, Koke and players like this and to get back to the values that suit them." Real Madrid, who beat Liverpool 3-1 in May for a third Champions League trophy in a row, embark on their title defence without Cristiano Ronaldo. Madrid's all-time leading scorer left for Juventus in the summer while Zinedine Zidane, mastermind of those three triumphs, stepped down. "He marked a marvellous period for Real Madrid and he shattered practically all of the records here, but that's in the past," Ramos said. "We can't live on what Cristiano did in the past. The hole he left is very big but it's covered by others players with a lot of ambition and desire and we have a big squad to compete. We wish him the best, as always. "He gave us a lot and took very little away. He was very direct, had lots of goals in him and we played more on the counter. Now, we have to adapt to another style. We have more possession and another way to hurt our opponents and that is what we have to exploit." Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui refused to confirm his first choice goalkeeper for the Champions League, after summer signing Thibaut Courtois' arrival from Chelsea. Keylor Navas kept goal for Madrid's three Champions League successes in a row and started the first three matches of the season before Courtois replaced him for win against Leganes and 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao. "I'll say it again but we have magnificent solution in goals," Lopetegui said. "I'm not going to say anything regarding who will start."
