I have been eating cucumber for as long as i can no longer remember, since the day my girlfriend introduced me to eat, i never ever used to like, even in my food. I stumbled on this Madam Felicia's article on my Facebook feed, and i think it is indeed, worthy to share. 9 Healthy Reasons To Eat Cucumbers Cucumber is a widely cultivated plant. It is a creeping vine that bears cylindrical fruits that are used as culinary vegetables. Here are 9 healthy reasons why you should eat cucumber. 1. Protect Your Brain Cucumbers contain an anti-inflammatory flavonol called fisetin that appears to play an important role in brain health. In addition to improving your memory and protecting your nerve cells from age-related decline, fisetin has been found to prevent progressive memory and learning impairments in mice with Alzheimer’s disease. 2. Reduce Your Risk of Cancer Cucumbers contain polyphenols called lignans (pinoresinol, lariciresinol, and secoisolariciresinol), which may help to lower your risk of breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers. They also contain phytonutrients called cucurbitacins, which also have anti-cancer properties. 3. Fight Inflammation Cucumbers may help to “cool” the inflammatory response in your body, and animal studies suggest that cucumber extract helps reduce unwanted inflammation, in part by inhibiting the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes. 4. Antioxidant Properties Cucumbers contain numerous antioxidants, including the well-known vitamin C and beta-carotene. They also contain antioxidant flavonoids, such as quercetin, apigenin, luteolin, and kaempferol, which provide additional benefits. For instance, quercetin is an antioxidant that many believe prevents histamine release—making quercetin-rich foods “natural antihistamines.” Kaempferol, meanwhile, may help fight cancer and lower your risk of chronic diseases including heart disease. 5. Freshen Your Breath Placing a cucumber slice on the roof of your mouth may help to rid your mouth of odor-causing bacteria. Eating cucumbers may also help to release excess heat in your stomach, which is said to be a primary cause of bad breath. 6. Manage Stress Cucumbers contain multiple B vitamins, including vitamin B1, vitamin B5, and vitamin B7 (biotin). B vitamins are known to help ease feelings of anxiety and buffer some of the damaging effects of stress. 7. Support Your Digestive Health Cucumbers are rich in two of the most basic elements needed for healthy digestion: water and fiber. If you struggle with acid reflux, you should know that drinking water can help suppress acute symptoms of acid reflux by temporarily raising stomach pH; it’s possible that water-rich cucumbers may have a similar effect. Cucumber skins contain insoluble fiber, which helps add bulk to your stool. This helps food to move through your digestive tract more quickly for healthy elimination. 8. Maintain a Healthy Weight Cucumbers are very low in calories, yet they make a filling snack (one cup of sliced cucumber contains just 16 calories). The soluble fiber in cucumbers dissolves into a gel-like texture in your gut, helping to slow down your digestion. This helps you to feel full longer and is one reason why fiber-rich foods may help with weight control. 9. Support Heart Health Cucumbers contain potassium, which is associated with lower blood pressure levels. A proper balance of potassium both inside and outside your cells is crucial for your body to function properly. As an electrolyte, potassium is a positive charged ion that must maintain a certain concentration (about 30 times higher inside than outside your cells) in order to carry out its functions, which includes interacting with sodium to help control nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction, and heart function. Fellow Nairalanders, i found very informative content from a lady's site called Madam Felicia, I hope you will find it informative too. Here, we look at food types that are linked with cancer . - Crisps, chips, biscuits and bread - Alcohol - Red meat - Salt - Peanuts and grains - Microwave popcorn - Non-organic fruits - Canned tomatoes - Processed meats - Farmed salmon - Potato chips - Hydrogenated oils - Foods that are highly salted, pickled, or smoked - Highly processed white flours - Foods that have been modified by chemicals and grown with chemicals. - Refined sugars - Artificial sweeteners - Diet foods - Soda pop Note: Although people still eat these foods but high intake of these foods make them really harmful and cancerous. The only thing i will say is that when it comes to skin care issues, one should be very careful the kind of chemical you apply on your body. So i'll advice any one that is buying or using any cream or lotion to be very sure of the quality and authenticity of the product. I recently started buying anything makeups/skincare & perfumes at http://glamour.com.ng. At least am sure that i am buying the original product, its cheap and they bring it to me house the next day. |

Ok! Style plus av got styl, but there's this auto tune they use in their voice which make them a little artificial. thus, on stage, their live perfomance is not really impresive, but pboiz use their natural voices and thus they dont sound any different on stage. more soo, style plus av a regular singing and writing style but platasion boiz give it to you all round. and till date i listen to pboiz as if av not had their songs b4, as some one said earlier "their songs are evergreen". pls dont get it wrong, am a styl plus fan, but i think pboiz are better |

The problem i see with most Africans is that while others are trying to boost wats theirs the African man is trying to hate some one because he feels tha person is getting too much credit for a gooooood job. R. Kelly et all, are where they are today because they got full support of their country. Wats the problem with the simple " FACT " that 2face is the Best in Nija/Africa. he deserves it, he should have it, rite about now, the same respect ill give to R. Kelly ill also go to 2face, cos at the end of the day, there is no MUCH difference. Rugged man said and i quote " the most popular artist in the whole of Africa after Akon is 2face " so pls haters, deal with it. |
