This is completely false. PDP should try harder and more imaginatively. |
joeyfire:I don't understand why Nigerians, more than others, are so incapable of distinguishing right from wrong. Don't you understand that Ogar did what she should never have done? The lines became horribly blurred under GEJ and many lost their heads but the point is that a sane Government is here now and those who abused their office must pay. This is why Nazi war criminals are still being prosecuted till today and even if they are 90 years old. There has to be consequences for wrongdoing and abuse of office. Don't you get this simple concept? Ogar had no right or authority to go public and blame a political party for terrorist bombing at a time the nation was very troubled and grappling with a situation that could tilt into mass unrest and killings at any time. What she did was highly unprofessional, dangerous and divisive. Our nation already had a dangerous North-South schism because of Boko Haram terrorism. Security officers should not be making such worse with sentimental and unguarded utterances. We can do such on Nairaland but not Ogar. She gets paid to be professional, efficient and neutral. Her job duty does not involve going public to heat up the polity and prejudice opinion against a political Party when she has wild conjectures as her main claim !!! Do you not even see the fundamental wrong of this? I.e the fact that top level security officials worldwide only announce facts publicly and not conjectures and unproven allegations? She deserves the sack for that. How can you not see this? How will the world perceive and interact with the Buhari government if they see him persevering with the likes of Ogar who totally defeat the concept of strong, independent and neutral institutions? Is it not obvious, from her openly biased utterances, that Ogar would have no problem unjustly framing an innocent APC politician for a bombing when her job demands that she keeps an open mind and leave the official proclamation of guilt to the law Courts? I really don't understand how some Nigerians think and talk. |
Personally I hope this is true as this will confirm we have a responsible and disciplined Government in place that understand the fundamental concept that dereliction of duty and unprofessional conduct must be punished. Nigeria badly needs a deterrent system where people understand that there will be consequences for wrongdoing. Ogar did what she did because she never imagined the PDP would be out of power. She never thought she would pay for her unprofessional and divisive conduct which was highly unbecoming of her sensitive position. Never should Nigeria witness the likes of Ogar in sensitive public office again. We need strong institutions headed by men and women who understand that they are employed, first and foremost, to serve Nigerians and not politicians. |
hinwazaka:That is a totally irrelevant example. Iraq is a historical enemy of the USA. Both nations are hostile towards each other and may even use fabricated 'evidence' and propaganda in an effort to gain the upper hand. If you think about it then you will see that lack of peace in Iraq is not a real bother to the USA. Likewise Iraqis will not lose sleep if the USA is troubled. The best contextual example is to imagine a US and Iraq security supremo working against the internal peace and security of their own nation because of political/ethnic bias. Give me an example of a professional security agency acting in a way that threatens the internal peace and security of its own home nation. That is what Ogar did. She did not make a "callous and inappropriate statement". She went beyond the brief and authority of her office. Don't you get this simple concept? What would the world be like if policemen who should only investigate and arrest criminals begin undermining the justice system by going public to announce the guilt of those who have not been tried in a competent court of law? Surely this is a simple enough concept for you to understand and defend? |
hinwazaka:What "comeback" and what "vindictiveness"? Would you like it if you are convicted of a crime publicly, without trial, by a security official who hates you because of bias against your ethnic group or political affiliation? What would become of a Country full of such security officers? Let us learn to put sentiments aside for the sake of our nation if some of us indeed love her as we claim. Ogar deserves to be sacked. What she did is not done by others in her position anywhere else in the world. Let me remind you that her antics, in case you have forgotten, means she is even getting off lightly. Ogar's open partisanship was very dangerous for Nigeria in a 'charged' period. In most sane nations of the world she may even be charged with endangering national security. Can you guys supporting Ogar not understand the simple concept of professional boundaries and how she is not allowed to play judge and jury publicly to the detriment of the peace and security of Nigeria? Ogar should have kept her mouth shut. She has no right or authority to say all she did and she surely should not have been so openly biased, i.e pro PDP, in a job that requires the highest level of professionalism and neutrality. She should be sacked. http://abusidiqu.com/video-dss-spokesperson-marilyn-ogar-blames-apc-bombings-nigeria/ VIDEO: DSS Spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar Blames APC for the Bombings in Nigeria |
ba7man:Indeed. The woman is a disgrace. I don't understand how anyone can speak in her defence. Imagine a security supremo who convicts and assigns guilt against a political Party publicly without showing conclusive proof and in the absence of a conclusive court trial. That is the worst thing in the world and Nigeria is one of the few nations, if not the only one, this crap can happen in !!! This is the equivalent of the police publicly and unprofessionally announcing the guilt of a suspect when we all know the police are only allowed to investigate and arrest to then let the prosecution service prove guilt. Any policeman/security official , especially a senior officer, who publicly prejudices a case/allegation of wrongdoing against anyone, in defiance of official prosecution that confirms guilt conclusively, would be sacked in any sane nation of the world. As simple as that. It is about time we stop the madness and aberrancy to begin doing things the right way in Nigeria. It is the only way forward. |
i will personally wait for confirmation of this from more sources. If true then I hail this development as absolutely the right thing to do. It is time we all begin putting partisanship and bias aside to see and support what is right. Others do it worldwide so why are we Nigerians different? Ogar was horribly and openly partisan/compromised in a position requiring the highest level of professionalism and political neutrality. Where do you Nigerians see this worldwide? i.e the spokesperson of a Nation's security service taking side shamelessly and openly with a political Party? If people put sentiments asides it will be obvious the likes of Ogar have no place in sensitive positions of public service in in a progressive Nigeria. Africa needs strong institutions and not strong men as Obama surmised. The likes of Ogar, who are unprofessional and easily compromised, will never be the manpower that will allow the emergence of strong and independent institutions. Her open bias and utterances , like when she stated that each time the APC lost an election a spate of bombing followed, are simply disgraceful and unacceptably biased. When have you guys ever seen the spokesperson of the FBI or MI5 openly acting as a lackey of a political Party in the USA and UK respectively? Those who cannot see what matters and speak in support of Ogar do not mean well for Nigeria. We need to get rid of the Ogars and the Mbus to build professional, driven, motivated and independent security forces with the capacity to serve the public professionally always while refraining from serving the agenda of politicians and interest groups. That is the only way forward for Nigeria. It is as simple as that and I personally hope Ogar has indeed been sacked. She deserves it. |
sarutobie:Buhari will be president for 4 years. Nigerians, to include those who voted for him and those who did not, have no choice but to get behind him. |
CSTR2:Happy now? you feel better? The point is that our current democracy began in 1999. The PDP has been in power from 1999 to 2015. If we are to speak intelligently and logically, so that solutions can arrive for our Country, then it is obvious we can mainly only scrutinise the current democracy which began in 1999 and still obtains today. Otherwise how far do you want us to go? The days of military rule? the days of colonial rule? The days before the arrival of missionaries? We are in the fourth republic and the primary scrutiny, for the sake of learning from mistakes, must be of the fourth republic. We should focus on the latest, uninterrupted period of democracy when leaders were elected. that would be 1999 till today. |
Ugomba:I don't understand people like you. All for partisan politics and perhaps sectional bias you fail to condemn what is wrong and must be condemned. This is why many think Nigerians are "somehow" . We have a warped way of being comfortable with and even promoting criminality or what is outright wrong. What Fayose is doing is very reckless and dangerous. It is divisive and incendiary antics which threatens the peace of Nigeria. If you do not know, Fayose is a glorified thug who used to drive a Taxi in the UK. There is nothing historically special, whether previous employment history or talent, about him that makes him merit his status as Governor. It was Obasanjo who made him a Governor because of his 'thug value' since OBJ, at the time, only dealt with ruthless thugs he felt would help him take over and continuously control the SW politically. Sani is very correct that Fayose is a 'relic' harking back to our dark days of "do or die" politics. He should shut up and face his job. His sort will be replaced by the next generation of well-bred, individually successful, administratively talented and sophisticated Yorubas by the grace of God. His mates like El Rufai and Ambode are getting on quietly with their jobs while Fayose is ranting disgracefully and divisively. Overall, there is nothing praiseworthy in what Fayose is doing. His antics should be condemned by all sane and sensible Nigerians irrespective of ethnic or political affiliation. |
Sani is correct. Fayose is nothing but an uncouth and impudent thug who recklessly and dangerously heats up the polity routinely all in the name of partisan politics. It is the unspoken responsibility of Fayose, and one he should be well aware of, to help maintain and promote peace in Nigeria. He is a governor for god sake and not a roadside mechanic. If he continues his recklessness then Buhari must summon him to Abuja and read him the riot act. The man is just a disgrace. He has done nothing of note in Ekiti so far and all he does is talk recklessly and insensitively. I am sure many in Ekiti now regret voting for him. |
handie:No. The corruption and greed of man deliberately made Nigeria complex to the extent you now make the conclusion you do above. Equally, the discipline, determination and selfless leadership of man can make Nigeria 'simple' again. This is why Nigerians should support Buhari. PDP deliberately destroyed Nigeria over the past 16 years. Buhari can definitely put Nigeria on the path to success. It will not be easy but it can be done. |
Kastonkastroll:Totally agree. This is not even that difficult to achieve but leadership myopia, greed, corruption and lack of political will has ensured that all the PDP Governments we have had since 1999 have merely paid lip service to the concept of diversifying the Nigerian economy so it is not entirely reliant on crude oil which is a fuel an innovative and scientifically fast-moving world will need less in the future. Benchmarking on crude is also fiscally dangerous and should not be something a serious nation rely on as a make-or-break determinant of economic success and development. Under GEJ, and with the Nigerian economy almost entirely reliant on crude oil income, budget benchmark for crude regularly hovered around $70-$73 because oil sold at over $100.00 per barrel . Today oil is selling at $48.00 per barrel approximately. Benchmark, for the next budget, will have to reflect this low price of oil and the general volatility of crude per barrel cost. The disparity in benchmark , between the last and upcoming budget, will be huge especially as it has happened in a relatively short space of time. The word huge is even a misnomer given the shrinkage the Nigerian economy will inevitably experience simply because the nation is earning far less than she did and the fact that 'rainy day' buffers were never put in place by the previous Government. Nigeria should learn from this development, as it is nothing new, and I think it is only under a leader like Buhari things can change for the better. |
fulanimafia:Indeed. Great point. Let me add also that every effort must be made to grow the SME sector in the medium to long term as this will likely solve 30-40% of Nigeria's major problems of unemployment, small middle class, sub-optimal economic activities, poor global trade presence, underdeveloped export market et al. I personally back Buhari to 'come good' because he has the 'basic ingredients' , especially peculiar to Nigeria and her specific challenges, to be a very effective President and reformer. |
Obiagelli:My dear lady, it is all a deliberately orchestrated storm in a teacup from those who know Nigeria is about to change for good. I have said nothing about Buhari's "lopsided" appointment, same as I said nothing about the certificate sage or his health 'challenge', because anyone who wants to lead a productive and fulfilled life should not pay too much attention to frivolities that changes nothing and is totally inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Buhari has a 4-year mandate to lead Nigeria. All these distracting talk will will not rob him of even a single day in charge. I will have a problem with Buhari when I don't see the changes that really matter for my beloved country. Anything else is the usual attention-seeking antics from political jobbers and hatchet men who always work for their own personal agenda. |
HzRF:Your personalised attacks mean nothing to me. It is all about the progress of Nigeria as far as I am concerned. With that in my mind, I am sure Mr.President will deliver in all sectors. Pls why is killing still going on in NorthTerrorists are not PHCN salaried workers. they will kill come what may. The rest of us who follow the laws of society know when to behave when we have a serious boss who can sack, demote or imprison us for incompetence, corruption and abuse of office. Frankly I don't see how you can give this example considering that terrorists worldwide live outside the laws of God and man. Why is our economy depreciatingI would like to believe you are not ignorant of how GEJ has damaged our economy massively over the past few years with corruption, failure to diversify our economy from a dependence on oil, gross under-investment in the SME sector et al. I believe you must be joking with what you wrote above. The mess GEJ created means he would be serving a life sentence in most nations of the world. Why is job creation going underSee above. You are incredibly biased if you think the Buhari Government can create jobs currently without steadying the drifting ship Nigeria had become under GEJ and the PDP. Why am I still buying PMS at 100/90Are you for real? Reforms of the oil sector is currently ongoing. Why not wait to see how things shape up, once definitive policies have been rolled out, before your expect cheaper PMS from Buhari for a problem GEJ and the PDP caused with their devotion to scamming and exploiting Nigerians. Did Buhari cause a proliferation of scamming fuel marketers or was that down to GEj and his PDP cohorts? Answer a simple yes or no. I think the problem is that you feel duty-bound to continue supporting GEJ and denouncing Buhari. This is why you cannot make summations and distinctions which are very obvious. This leads to the questions you ask which are very puzzling from a logical perspective. |
Beremx:Indeed. |
Rad1cal:My friend, give it a rest. I have no time for posters like you any more and should have even ignored you which I will do from now henceforth. |
Rad1cal:Can you ever speak or get your point across without insulting others? |
Beremx:He will be. I am even surprised these elements have the mouth to talk. A bit like the PDP indicting Buhari of making the Nigerian economy worse over 90 days when the entire world knows they plunged Nigeria into a horrible man-made economic downturn because of their unconscionable looting and penchant for corruption. Anyway, they will all be silenced soon. Buhari has warned them that the PDP will have "no leg to stand on" when the probe on corruption begins. I personally cannot wait. |
erunz:Sorry to disappoint you but factual evidence, tied to how GEJ did things the wrong way and with the wrong people deliberately, show this is not the case. Jonathan was only interested in enriching himself, his cronies and his associates. This is why he handed marketers licence to undeserving and unqualified crooks who later went on to carry out the biggest fuel subsidy scam in the history of Nigeria and this is also the reason he conceded the power assets, under the 'privatisation' scheme, into the incompetent hands of his cronies who charged Nigerians more yet produced only worsening darkness. At some level, I think you fans of GEJ should begin to tell yourselves the truth. Seeing and acknowledging the truth about GEJ, i.e the fact he was destructively corrupt and incompetent, does not make you culpable because you supported him. It is okay to start accepting the truth which takes nothing away from you even as you voted for GEJ. You don't have to continue seeing and saying what is not true because this assuages your feeling of guilt over voting for a failed President. The truth coming out about GEJ , which is that he did not do much good anywhere or for anyone, cannot be denied. Sorry to tell you that. |
stevecantrell:Indeed. All those connected with GEJ will go because they all helped him scam Nigeria blind. Of course they will lie about 'performance' and try to steal glory for the GEJ government but honest and upright Nigerians know the truth. |
http://saharareporters.com/2015/03/05/president-jonathan-and-pdp-have-finally-crippled-electric-power-sector-joe-igbokwe Practically all operators in the now privatized power sector are in the throes of death because the assumptions upon which they participated in the privatization bid do not obtain. The generation companies have little gas from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to fire their plants to full capacity. The transmission infrastructure cannot transport the limited quantity of power available to different parts of the country on account of ageing and poorly maintained facilities. Therefore, distribution companies do not have reasonable quantum of power to sell to the public and generate reasonable revenue. Yet, the government has forced these struggling firms to pledge a donation of N5billion to its reelection campaign fund based on a promise announced by the Minister of Petroleum Resources last September 30 to grant the operators a facility of N213billion. |
the Senate President and Senator Ben Bruce comment about GEJ's 'privatisation' efforts. The NERC chairman should stop patronising Nigerians. It is too late to try and launder the image of GEJ. He destroyed far more than he built. That is the truth any honest and upright person, even if his biggest fan, will admit to himself/herself. http://www.nigeriannewspapers.today/mixed-feelings-trail-power-sector-privatisation/ In his concluding remarks, the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, lamented that after the unbundling of the Nigerian power sector, there is yet to be any noticeable change in the power situation in the country. |
hedonistic:Call Buhari what you want yet I hope you know there is ample evidence showing that GEJ is nothing but a glorified scammer and ultra-corrupt leader who only succeeded in taking Nigeria for a ride. In fact, since you enjoy insulting someone trying to right the wrongs of a very wicked and anti-people former President, I think I will find more articles about GEJ's 'achievements' in the power sector. Stand by. |
From the Horse's mouth ie. "electricity workers". Those who actually work in the power sector, unlike me and you, telling Buhari GEJ's privatisation exercise is a scam. http://www.olisa.tv/2015/05/10/electricity-workers-buhari-power-sector-privatisation-scam/ Electricity workers tell Buhari power sector privatisation is a scam |
abagoro:100% correct. People should wait and see. In the end it will be obvious OBJ and GEJ are opportunist and self-serving scammers who actually took the power sector backwards with the moves that Buhari will make and the revelations that will become public about past governments. The main thing Nigerians need to appreciate, as the number one reason many supported Buhari passionately, is that there will now be consequences for stealing, corruption, diversion of public funds, contract violation, failing to deliver results and not doing your job properly. This is what sets the developed West apart from Africa. In China they execute those who are corrupt. In Britain they jail MPs who steal £2,000. In Nigeria the more you steal the more you are praised and showered with traditional title. Your ability to buy judges increase as well just as Ibori demonstrated with how he was cleared of over a hundred charges of corruption in Nigeria yet found guilty of 15 out of 18 charges of money laundering and criminal conduct in the UK. People don't understand that progress for Nigeria will come only under a leader who can bring discipline, sanity, accountability and professionalism to critical sectors and processes. |
The NERC chairman has to be diplomatic and give GEJ credit. Yet the truth is that the power sector, like the oil sector and others, is another that was totally overtaken by the gross corruption and administrative irresponsibility GEJ is known for. Nigerians should prepare for the corruption and rot that will be revealed about the power sector under GEJ-especially the pseudo-privatisation 'boju-boju' that was just a way to enrich many AGIPs and PDP bigwigs. I will try and find an article about what GEJ actually 'achieved' in the power sector. Overall Nigerians should not celebrate too much because 4700 MW is nothing in relation to Nigeria's immediate and future needs. Yet the reality is that this modest gain is down to the much vaunted Buhari 'body language' because, give or take, we always had the capacity, even before GEJ, to hit around 4700 MW. those who know the power sector well will confirm this. in the end Buhari's 'body language' , centred around zero tolerance for impunity, is the reason some of us spent so many hours of our time online and offline before the election working for his win. I have always argued that Europeans and Westerners are no less corrupt than Africans. The difference is that punishment is swift and decisive for wrongdoing in the developed world, and this has created a 'deterrent' culture where things work , whereas this is not the case in Nigeria and many African Countries creating an 'impunity' culture where nothing works and it is every man/woman for himself/herself . Jonathan is a poster child of the corrupt ways and system killing Africa. He never believed in punishing anyone or holding those under him accountable. To that end, impunity reigned under his government and no one was bothered to do their job as they could/should. Under Buhari, a hardliner who believes people must give value for what they are paid to do, you will be fired for incompetence, corrupt acts or general indolence in the workplace. Crucially, everyone understand this and are 'behaving' themselves. The slackness that obtained under GEJ is gone. This is a President who will question why you have not done your job properly and will sack you if you have no tenable excuse. That is the major game-changer and that is why some of us backed Buhari fervently. That is what all progressive nations of the world have in common . I.e there is a system in place that punishes corruption, crime, incompetence, lack of focus and lack of performance. PDP destroyed all that with their style of governance which actually encouraged Nigerians to be as corrupt, as indolent, as clueless and as inept as possible with the obvious assurance that there will be no consequence at all for doing things that way. Change is here and the GEJ supporters can continue to resist and offer excuses but they will be won over in the end. Even today most GEJ supporters are beginning to understand that the lawless, indisciplined and ultra-corrupt society GEJ and the PDP helped to create, where impunity was king, is not a way forward for Nigeria. |
anigold:When you have this unfortunate view then there is nothing anyone can say to change your preconceived notion that Buhari will sideline Fashola and all other Southerners in his quest to "Northernize" Nigeria. Many, before the election, insisted he wanted to "Islamize" Nigeria yet that noise is dead today because of the number of Christians Buhari has enlisted and is working with as Agabusta pointed out. You guys have now moved on to the 'Northernization' noise because it is now impossible for you to work the Islam angle. Yet Buhari will continue to demolish the negative propaganda enemies of Nigeria's progress have used to keep him away from the Presidency for so long. When will you guys give Buhari a break and just accept he has no agenda other than to use round pegs in round holes to heal and develop Nigeria? Anyway let us keep watching. We will see what your next beef with Buhari will be when all important appointments are made and they reflect a mind that deploys merit wherever such is from. |
agabusta:Indeed. This is why I personally don't understand why anyone would believe Buhari would want Fashola as SGF when he could deploy the former Lagos governor in far more critical areas that are fundamental to the success or failure of Buhari's government and indeed Nigeria. What I have come to accept is that many Nigerians prefer to entertain the wildest and most senseless conspiracy theory rather than use their common sense and thinking logic. If I were President today would I use Fashola as SGF? Hell no !!!! I would be thinking about power sector or works. For example, Nigeria needs a modern and efficient transport sector. only few leaders would be able to coordinate the extensive effort that would be required to produced this and Fashola has already provided a sample of his ability in this sector even with virtually no support from the FG. Fashola's achievement in transport in Lagos, to include the much lauded modular train network, means that any serious President must consider him as a transport/infrastructure guru or for any other sector critical to the success of Nigeria. Yet if people want to ignore what is obvious to take flights of fantasies then it is impossible to stop them doing this. Some are ignoring one basic reality i.e Buhari is a round-peg-in-round-hole type of leader. He does not do political expediency and has no interest in 'dashing' appointments like GEJ and others before him did. Under Buhari leaders will get jobs matched to their talent and proven expertise. A man who is one of the best in Nigeria at developing built environment will not be made a secretary. |
