The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has started collating the results from the local government areas of the state after Saturday’s election. Out of the 11 local government areas so far declared, the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has won 10, while the candidate of the Young Progressives Party, YPP, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah has won one. The local government areas won by Soludo are Dunukofia, Awka South, Oyi, Ayamelum, Anaocha, Anambra East, Idemili South, Onitsha South and Njikoka. The local government won by Ubah is his Nnewi North. There were some upsets in the election. For instance, the former governor of the state and vice presidential candidate of PDP in the 2019 general election, Mr Peter Obi lost his Anaocha local government to APGA. The chairman of the PDP campaign council, Senator Uche Ekwunife also lost to APGA in her Anaocha local government. Similarly, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige of APC lost his Idemili South local government to APGA, just as the deputy governor of the state, Dr Nkem Okeke who defected to APC before the election lost his Njikoka local government area to APGA. Professor Chukwuma Soludo, candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the ongoing Anambra Governorship election, has won has won his first Local Government. With a total of 6,911 votes, Soludo secured the highest votes in Anaocha LGA. Mr Valentine Obizo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) followed with 5,108 votes, while Senator Andy Uba of the All Progressives Congress (APC) came a distant third with 2,085 votes. Senate rejects FG’s proposal to borrow N82 billion to buy mosquito nets . . The Nigerian Senate has c*ndemned a proposal by the Federal Ministry of Health to borrow $200 million (N82,070,388,916.76) under the malaria programme to buy mosquito nets in the 2022 budget. . . A member of the Senate Committee on Health, Gershom Bassey on Tuesday opposed the move by the Ministry during the 2022 budget defence of the Federal Ministry of Health. . . Bassey told the Permanent Secretary, Mahmuda Mamman that the proposal with respect to borrowing $200 million (about N82 billion at the official exchange rate of N410 to a dollar) to purchase mosquito nets was outrageous considering the amount involved. . . The Committee’s condemnation was in response to the Permanent Secretary’s earlier submission of the intention to borrow the said amount for the purchase of mosquito nets.The panel further demanded the total needs of the agency to ascertain if there was a need for borrowing. . .
