i live in the USA with my 3 kids, ages 7 , 5 and 2 ,they have never been to Nigeria, they understand everything in yoruba, the older two also speak yoruba, but when they get to school or go outside they speak with perfect American accent. And you find kids that have never been outside Nigeria who can not speak their native language. i think its share inferiority complex that makes us embrace western culture over us, in the USA you see African americans wanting to do anything to identify with the African culture, some of them actually pay to learn our languages yet , we want to speak like them it puts me off when i watch TV in Nigeria and most presenters are trying to talk with british/ American accent, please let us embrace our beautiful culture, even americans envy us, when we invite them to Nigerian parties they are amazed with the richness of our culture Proudly Nigerian |
When we were growing up , we were told not to eat with ten fingers, i strongly believe in this, and i also believe if you are determined you can achieve anything you set your mind on building in Nigeria or not is a matter of priority, we need to set our priorities right, a lot of Africans live abroad and they deprive themselves and loved ones good things of life in a bid to build a house in Nigeria that they may never live in, some have young children that they are raising up abroad, they deny them of certain things, because they are building back in Africa I live in the USA , i believe in, not eating with ten fingers, i strongly believe in my Original country Nigeria, i Love Nigeria passionately , but i have made up my mind not to be under any pressure to build in Nigeria, i work hard every day to enhance the quality of my family's life, i enjoy every day of my life and make the best of everyday that i live here, i invest in my family my advice to fellow diasporans is to enjoy everyday of your life, if you can afford to build right now you should start( its very good to have a place in Nigeria) but please do not bow to pressure and punish your immedaiate family , dont live in a torn down appartment with your immedaiate family and build a mansion in Ogbomoso , oshobo, or Ikare that you may never live in or you only go there twice in a year if not once in two years, the mai guard ( security gurad) is the one enjoying the house if not extended family members enjoy every day of your life, have fun , take your spouse on vacations, look good . feel good, pay for fitness centre have fun, dont kill yourself to build in Naija, but if the opportunity arises utilize it we have heard of many africans that died on the street, working 2 , 3 jobs because they wanted to do things back home, dont get me wrong i love and respect my Root, but i have refused to allow anyone to put me under pressure Live, Dont Exist, Truly Nigerian! |

It shows our level of civilisation, in civilised countries military men dont even mingle with civiliians in the public, they are mostly in remote areas in their stations, i appreciate their service to our nation, but they should not force the public to offfer them free service, does that mean they can go to restaurants and eat free food lol Truly Nigerian! |
this is obviously not the perfect situation, but we have to bear in mind that these people are equally human, let us pray that God will see the family through whatever they are going through right now,it is very easy to condem but the truth is that we all have our shortcomings |
Where did people get the idea that everyone that live overseas wash dishes and do menial jobs, there are Nigerians that are professionals, business owners, and so on Agreed some people might be doing odd jobs but when they think about their background they still thank God for the opportunity to be working in these countries, i know a guy whose family had it very rough growing up, He lives in the Usa and drives a cab and he has been able to do a lot for his family members, moved his parents out of the slum they grew up in, supported the younger ones and has even managed to build himself a house in Nigeria, just by driving a cab in the USA the question is how many taxi drivers or how many carpenters are able to do this back home Even though i live in the USA i love my country, and am very passionate about her, but lets face the fact we have a lot of unsolved problems in Nigeria, i always like to think in the context of an ordinary man in the streets of Lsgos , not the one that supposedly has a good job (that might not be there tomorow), if a family decides to stay abroad its their choice, they should therefore enjoy everyday of their lives its not every Nigerian that live in the USA that wash dishes, some of us are employers of labour and have Americans that answer to us ( to the glory of God almighty) lets not push the problem under the carpet, there are unaddressed problems in our country Truly Nigerian |

IF YOU LOOK AT THE CONDITION OF A LOT OF PEOPLE IN NIGERIA, MAYBE DUE TO THEIR UPBRINGING AND THE OPPORTUNITIES THAT WERE AVAILABLE TO THEM GROWING UP, YOU WILL KNOW THAT TRAVELLING ABROAD IS A BLESSING INDEED TO THEM NIGERIA IS A PLACE WHERE IF YOUR PARENTS ARE NOT WELL TO DO OR WELL CONNECTED YOU WILL HAVE TO WORSHIP OTHER CITIZENS THAT ARE WELL OFF, I KNOW A GUY THAT WAS RAISED IN AN ENVIRONMENT WHERE 7 OF THEM LIVED IN A ROOM, AND THEIR PARENTS STRUGGLED TO SEND THEM TO HIGH SCHOOL, HE WON THE US VISA LOTTERY AND NOW LIVES IN THE USA, EVEN THOUGH HE DRIVES A TAXI( WHICH IS CONSIDERED A MENIAL JOB) HE HAS BEEN ABLE TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF HIS FAMILY'S LIFE HE HAS HELPED HIS SIBBLINGS TO GO THROGH THE UNIVERSITY AND HIS PARENTS LIVE IN A BETTER PLACE , ALL FROM DOING MENIAL JOBS THINK ABOUT IT, IF THIS GUY WAS IN NIGERIA, WITHOUT A DEGREE OR THE RIGHT CONNECTIONS OR HAVE THE COURAGE TO DO RITUALS, HE WOULD PROBABLY BE GOING THROGH THE SAME THING HIS PARENTS WENT THROUGH THE TRUTH IS THAT BASIC THINGS OF LIFE ARE VERY DIFFICULT FOR THE ORDINARY MAN TO COME BY IN NIGERIA, AND IT SHOULD NOT BE SO, HAVING SAID THAT, I AM NOT SAYING THAT LIVING ABROAD IS AUTOMATIC SUCCESS, BUT FOR MOST PEOPLE IT IS A BLESSING! I HAD A HONDA ACCORD THAT HAD OVER 170,000 MILES AND IT DROVE VERY SMOOTHLY, JAPANESE CARS CAN STAND LONG MILES BUT NOT AMERICAN CARS, IF AN AMERICAN CAR HAS OVER 150,000 MILES DONT EVEN BOTHER TO MESS WITH IT, CAUSE THEY ARE NOT MADE TO LAST THAT LONG TALKING ABOUT DEALERS SELLING SALVAGE AND HIGH MILES CARS IN NIGERIA, THE TRUTH IS THAT CARS WITH LOW MILES AND CLEAR TITLES ARE NOT CHEAP IN THE USA, CAUSE THATS WHAT PEOPLE PAY FOR, IF YOU LOOK AT HOW MUCH CARS ARE SELLING FOR IN NIGERIA DUE TO HIGH SUPPLY WHICH EXCEEDS DEMAND, YOU WILL FIND OUT THAT THE ONLY WAY A CAR DEALER CAN SURVIVE THE NIGERIAN MARKET IS TO GO THE SALVAGE/HIH MILES ROUTE |
if the Federal goverment of Nigeria would intervene and protect consumers from subprime lenders , i think geting a car on hire purchase is a great idea, provided you get something you can coveniently pay for, think about it the reason why people are corrupt and resort to crooked means to survive is because they want to have the basic things of life and its not easy to come by for instance if a fresh graduate wants to legitimately save up for a car ,when would he be able to put the money together, there is a huge class difference between people who have and people who dont have in Nigeria, because things are not easy to come by, if buying a brand new car or brand new furniture and houses becomes easy for everyone then there would be no oppression i live in the usa and when i was going to school and driving a taxi i was able to afford a brand new honda odyssey in 2006, whereas in Nigeria its even considered an insult for a taxi driver to think about buying a brand new car getting a loan for a car in not a bad idea provided the interest rate is not ridiculous, you buy what you can afford and you have a steady source of income to pay for it |
