The 4-4-2 was at the peak of it's popularity in the late 90s and the early beginning of this century but most top teams don't adapt it currently for obvious reasons. Mourinho himself pretty much ended it's use in England when he came along with his 4-3-3 then. But these days he prefers the 4-2-3-1 and there's a good chance we'll adapt that but I hope not.

With the exclusion of Rooney, we have more players suited to a midfield 3 and it's best fitted for Pogba, our record signing.

A younger Carrick would've been good enough in a midfield 2 or the deepest midfielder in this trio but the older one has lost most of his legs and that makes everything a little more complicated because of our current midfielders, only Carrick has the required skill set to sick back defensively and dictate play.

IIRC Jose has done without the use of that kind of midfielder in the past. His first Chelsea team had Essien, Lampard and Makelele who wasn't exactly known for dictating play. There was great synergy between them however which is lacking among our midfielders.

As some have stated earlier, United pretty much didn't use to play with such a midfielder in the past but then we hardly lacked steel in midfield.

I'm very curious to see what Mourinho will adapt eventually.

So we got Pogba for £89m in total fees after all; better deal than I expected. What happened to those salty folks screaming £120m and £20m to Raiola his agent?

Herrera or Morgan; One of them needs to step up massively and claim a spot in midfield this season; our season might depend on it. If they fail to, then we'll surely have to bring in another high profile midfielder next season. Our midfield has always been a mess. Like I've continuously stated, the signing of a single midfielder (Pogba) won't solve all our issues in the middle but it's a very good start to what we wanna achieve.

Sircumalot looking at that Mata sub again, i don't think it's as bad as i feared earlier; i doubt Jose was trying to be vindictive. He needed to make a sub to waste time as usual and give Mkhi an appearance and the only players who started the game and who he could have taken off for Mkhitaryan were Fellani and Zlatan and they are our 2 tallest players (in a time Leceister were driving crosses into the box like crazy) so i don't think he could've taken them off for Mkhitaryan so he had to take off a player who just came in like Herrera, Rashford, Morgan, Rojo and i think Mata was the best option.

On Luca Toni, I don't give sh1t about whatever conditions. The scenarios are basically similar. Bayern wanted a player out and they banished him to the reserves to get their wish. Whether prior to that he had punched LVG or rаped his wife is not my business. Bayern did the same thing(banishment to the reserves) and maybe even ended up terminating his contract IIRC.

This first image is a flat 4-4-2. This second image is a diamond 4-4-2. It is called diamond because the 4 players in midfield form a diamond shape. It has nothing to do with the figure 4. If 4 was the reason, then every 4-4-2 or every formation with 4 in the midfield would be called a diamond formation

This is an example of 4-1-4-1. The players don't form a diamond; they simply do not. That's why it isn't a diamond formation and there are no variants of this formation that form that.

The 4 in the 4-4-2 doesn't exactly mean diamond. There is flat 4-4-2 in which the 4 midfielders are almost on a straight line at most intervals. 4-4-2 is called a diamond when the 4 midfielders form a diamond. Do you what that diamond shape looks like?

In 4-1-4-1, there is basically 5 midfielders (wingers can be employed unlike 4-4-2 diamonds which limits their use) and how do you form a diamond shape with 5 midfielders? There is no known variant of the 4-1-4-1 that is even referred to as diamond. The 4 midfielders in 4-1-4-1 don't form diamonds; this is the first time i'm hearing this. What you saw most likely wasn't a diamond formation.

There was no place in his contract that it was stipulated that he must train with the first team. we haven't violated any term in the contract, and we're only doing what we have to do to force him out. He can take us to court and see what he'll be told.

I am well aware of Basti's career trajectory. Can he play at an elite level and is he done as a midfielder at the top level. Go and watch the first half of Germany v France and come back and tell me when Carrick has matched that in the last 6 years at club level never mind internationally where he was clearly a non entity. This is the issue i have with him. He had an injury that was supposed to rule him out for the Euros but he played in it because of his love for Germany; i can't imagine him doing that for United. He looked slimmer and fitter for Germany than he had ever been at Manchester; he also put in performances far better than anything he had shown at United. Can you imagine that? What does that tell you about Bastian and his commitment to United?

Juventus a very stingy club paid 90 million for higuain who is 29 by decemeber in this current market because we are taking Pogba from them. Were Juventus MAGAd too? They have an history of making smarter bigs deals than any big club ever. They were the same folks who sold Zidane for a record fee to buy 3 quality players in Thuram, Nedved and Buffon IIRC.
United aren't complaining about the Pogba deal, so get over it. We have more money to spend than any other club currently so it's only normal we overpay most times.

There are 32 year olds who are still very good players contributing a lot to their teams unlike Bastian who can't stay fit to save his own life; those 32 year olds aren't on very big wages like Bastian either. Bastian scenario is entirely different. He's one of my favorite player but my love for United is far greater; i want him out of the club ASAP and it's for good reason.

Bayern has been doing it to. They have banished players to the reserves before. Even a young Bastian got banished to the reserves while at Bayern but he forced his way back to the team. I remember how Bayern dealt with Luca Toni; they forced him to the reserves to get him out and they did similar things or moves considered "classless" by these Bayern fans to old strikers or other players they wanted out in the past. They won't hesitate to do similar again in the future. They are simply hypocrites.

If LVG sanctioned the transfer of Bastian as United fans claim, why would Bastian force a move during LVG's era as manager? Bastian only joined United in the summer of 2015 and this exactly one year since that trade. Bastian was injured for the bulk of LVG's reign, racking less than 20 senior level appearances for the red devils.

Problem i have with United and Mou is the fact that he is back from injury, even though he was peripheral in the German team that played in France, however, he suddenly is not good enough to even train with the first team?

I share the same sentiments with you about the sustainibility of the transfer, and i did not hesitate to spell that out in my original post. He should have either moved to another Bundesliga team, Chinese super league or the MLS, the demands and rigors of the EPL are distinctively unique especially when you come with a price tag and don't have age on your side.

I would suggest he buys out the two years left in his contract because he has no place in Mou's team.

LVG got MAGAed by both Bastian and Bayern. I have made peace with that.

Banishing him to the reserves is the most effective way to force him out. It's what big clubs do to force a player out who refuses to leave. Bayern has done it in the past; but because they're hypocrites and their fans have so such memories.
When Mourinho arrived, he told Bastian very early that he wasn't in his plans and that he should find a new club. It's likely Bastian refused and didn't take it seriously or is having problems finding a club to match his wages and he doesn't want a pay cut. Instead he's comfortable sitting on bench or being injured while collecting massive wages at United. Jose cannot bring in better players because there is limited space on the wage bill given the size of Bastian's wages. That's pretty classless from Bastian and i have no issues with the way Jose has treated him.
