Career › Re: Should I Stop Work And Do A Masters Programme? by geekybabe(f): 7:43am On Jul 16, 2017
rien05:
Hello House,

Kindly advise me on which way to follow. I currently earn 150k per month and I am thinking of enrolling for an MBA in Unilag. My headache is I will have to pick the full time option because it is cheaper and has better lecture hours, which means I have to stop work. Classes are from 9am-2pm weekly. The fee is about 200k.
I am skeptical about the part time option because its classes are during the evenings from 4pm to 8pm. I live and work on the island(Ajah) and close by 5pm. My boss won't allow me close by 3pm. He might agree to close at 4pm but even if he agrees to 3pm, there's no way I will get to Unilag before 5:30pm(on a no traffic day) by public transport. And lets say I finish lectures by 8pm, with the traffic and all I might be getting home by 11pm or so(dangerous for a girl). And it will so tell on me because the stress will be too much.(I am already a Lekpa I don't want to disappear). The koko again is that the fees for part time is about 500k.(I just started earning 150k ooh shocked and also ponzi finish my money at the beginning of the year. GREED. don't blame me ohh, many people fell victim with me).
The last option is the Executive MBA. Classes are on saturdays from 8pm to 4pm. The fee is about 2Million. I won't even go there.
If I say I should do another Masters course it will have to be a science course which are all full time.

My question is should I take the risk to forfeit my job and do my MBA? The forms are out. I want to prepare my mind before buying the form(N22,500). I really want an upgrade to my certificate. I also need money to keep me going because there is no one to lean on. Everybody is forming OYO. And I also don't want to regret embracing an opportunity now that I have money for fees. No one knows tomorrow. Please advise oooohhhhhh mbok
Do not leave your job. Many pple register as full time students in dat unilag and still work full time. There is a way around these things. At masters level you dont need to attend evry class. It's not undergrad. Just av a good way of communicating with other classmates regularly.

150k job is somtin o. Dont quit it. Jobs are very hard to get in dis economy. From experience you badly need a steady source of income to run thru a masters program. It can be very hectic and difficult to run a masters if you dont av money. You will regret quitting your job and feel like quiting d masters over time.
Hold tight to dat freaking job for now. Masters or no masters. Evn masters holders still finish and start job hunting

AnonyNymous:
That's a VERY bold claim. Would you mind lodging an official complaint? Making it public? With available evidence? The aggrieved staff who claim their salaries haven't been paid should come forward. After all, Afe is simultaneously building an amphitheatre and three other superstructures on campus. He's also put down funds for the construction of a planetarium and a dam. And he still had spare 'change', enough to organise a 'staff appreciation day' where cash gifts between 20 - 350k/staff member were awarded. So its not an issue of money. Unless you can provide your proof and lodge an official complaint, you should please not make careless statements in an effort to defame Afe Babalola University. Thanks.
Lol. So because he dashed a few pple money it means he is not laying off others? No one is defaming afe's university. All i said was building a teaching hospital for his medical schl was totally unnecessary as he could av partnered or continued his working arrangement with FMC Ido or EkSUTH. Even if he buys facilities who are the patients who will come there considering the way ekiti is? Or u think someone will leave lagos with his sickness and come to Afe Babalola teaching hospital all d way in ado ekiti? Uncle Calm dow and be objective. Not evryone spews out trash on NL. You sound like an excited student trying to defend his schl but Even if u work there, you dont knw that medical schl history like I do. Wont say more than dat.

The argument was about whether d hospital would really be needed or profitable on d long run. Nothing like defamation.

What do you mean?
Why is he building? How will he maintain the place? Who are the patients dat will risk themselves to visit a private teaching hospital all d way in ekiti ?
Just to build it he laid off some staff and suspended salaries of part time lecturers. Will he be able to afford paying the specialist doctors required in a teaching hospital and also finance running costs on the long run?

Please be advised that Glenmore is closer to Howard college than Westville college. Living in Glenmore, in my own opinion is not very safe. This is because the roads are lonely and one can be very vulnerable to muggings.
Not entirely true. I have heard of more muggings in westville dan i have heard in glenmore. The fact is just be security conscious. Glenmore has regularly patrolling security agents as it is a major residential area for families and not just students.

Many thanks @geekybabe for the details in your response. My dept/supervisor is in Westville. Please what is the average monthly rate for light and water in glenmore axis?
It varies. It will be more now in winter cos pple will use heaters and geysers more. Lets say between 250 to 400 per month. Depending on your house.

Hello all the SA gurus in the house, especially those at UKZN, I want to ask you a couple of questions with respect to accommodation at UKZN. I need some advise and I will appreciate if I can be guided.
(1) As a PhD student, I am considering to stay in an accommodation either close to Westville or Howard Campus. Which one will you advise and why.
(2) What is the cost implications of renting a one bedroom apartment(i.e. apartment has one bedroom, one living room often joined with the kitchen in an open plan setting.)
(3) Which of the 2 areas is the safest?

@Chukwuka16, @samuelUMOH,@femiaction and other veterans. Please advise. Many thanks.
1.Which of d campuses is your dept located? Stay close to your dept /supervisor

2. Houses are cheaper around westville campus compared to Howard. But Howard is more central and within town. Westville self con could be btwn 2100-2500 rands. Howard could be btwn 3000-3500 rands and could be without light and water. A miniflat with a sitting room might go for like 4k rands in howard/glenmore axis..exclusive of light and water

3. Durban is a place where u generally have to be security conscious.

Its due to blockage in drainage system

A proactive government would have cleared the drainage before raining season.

Since last year December, I have been battling with this ulcer of a thing. I have took rounds of medications ( omeprazole, amoxillin, flagyl, mistmag) but I couldn't get much relief ooo. If you see me now, am just like a 15years old guy. I don loss weight and spleen like never-before. Please I want to ask those of you who have also gone through this painful disease.

Please does ulcer causes stiffness of the neck?
Sorry abt your issue. The reason u could be loosing weight is cos you r not eating well considering the drugs you are taking.

Ulcer pain radiates to some parts in d body. Especially the back of the neck, the lower back of the waist too. So if you feel occassional numb or discomfort in your neck it could be the radiating ulcer pain.

Take plenty of fruits..and water. Avoid orange, lemon or sour fruits. Take lots of bananas and cucumber. Most importantly stop worrying or agitating about the ulcer. Worry adversely impacts on the ulcer..

Ayovaks. Donatee and everyone else.

Please any ideas for a very good cream for a dark skin? Currently use Nivea with a mix of coconut oil.

But i need something to evenly tone my skin and give it a shine.
Also i need recommendations for a good spot removal for my face. I have old acne scars and blackheads that have refused to go completely over the years. I tried natural products but lemon was too harsh for me.

Also has anyone used the clearasil soap before? How is it?
Properties › Re: Which Part Of Lagos Is The Best To Stay If You Have To Work From Home? by geekybabe(f):
Lagos light is fair these days.. especially in ketu..ikeja .surulere.
But with that budget u might not get a good place that has d kinda serenity u r looking for.

Festac is really cool. But not central. Far from most central places in lag

Ketu..low cost, good light, but noisy streets and neighborhoods. No serenity as such

Pls dont go to all these sangotedo and ajah. The traffic and flooding in those places is somtin else.

Some places in surulere are actually cool serene. U get to meet mature minds to if u r lucky. Overall, be willing to compromise on somethings especially cos of ur budget.

You rushed into first marriage and it crashed..
And you didn't think things thru before the second one?

Of course not all good businessmen are good family men.

Churchill seems like a good man.. but it takes more dan being good to lead a home.
