Health / Re: Pls Help! Untraceable Odour by geneithpharm: 12:15pm On Jan 30, 2018
It should surely be body odour.

Anyone who has reached puberty can produce body odour, as this is when the apocrine sweat glands develop, which produce the sweat that bacteria can quickly break down.
Men are more likely to have body odour, because they tend to sweat more than women.

Things that can make body odour worse include:
1. being overweight
2. consuming rich or spicy food and drink – such as garlic, spices and alcohol
3. some types of medication – such as antidepressants
4. certain medical conditions – a fruity smell can sometimes be a sign of diabetes, while a bleach-like smell may indicate liver or kidney disease.

5. Hyperhidrosis is a condition where a person sweats excessively and much more than the body needs to regulate temperature.
If you have hyperhidrosis, you may also have smelly feet (bromodosis). Smelly feet are caused by wearing shoes and socks that prevent sweat evaporating or being absorbed, which attracts bacteria.

A body odour problem can usually be managed by getting rid of excess skin bacteria – which are responsible for the smell – and keeping the skin in the affected area (usually the armpits) clean and dry.

Your armpits contain a large number of apocrine glands, which are responsible for producing body odour.
Keeping your armpits clean and free of bacteria will help keep odour under control. Following the below advice can help you achieve this:
1. take a warm bath or shower every day – to kill the bacteria on your skin; on hot days, you may need to have a bath or shower twice a day
2. wash your armpits thoroughly – using an antibacterial soap
3. use a deodorant or an antiperspirant – after bathing or showering
4. regularly shave your armpits – this allows sweat to evaporate quicker, giving bacteria less time to break it down
5. wear natural fibres, such as wool, silk or cotton – they allow your skin to breathe, which means your sweat will evaporate quicker
6. wear clean clothes – make sure you wash your clothes regularly
7. limit the amount of spicy foods you eat – such as curry or garlic, because they can make your sweat smell; evidence also suggests that eating a lot of red meat tends to make body odour worse
8. Deodorant and antiperspirant
The active ingredients used in antiperspirants and deodorants differ, so you may find some more effective than others.
Deodorants work by using perfume to mask the smell of sweat. Antiperspirants contain aluminium chloride (see below), which reduces the amount of sweat produced by your body.
9. Use roll-on antiperspirants if you sweat heavily, as they tend to be more effective.

Aluminium chloride is the active ingredient in most antiperspirants. It helps prevent the production of sweat.

If the above self-care advice doesn't improve your body odour, you may need a stronger antiperspirant that contains more aluminium chloride.
Your GP or pharmacist can recommend a suitable product and advise about how often you should use it.

Health / 5 Things You Know To Be True If You Are Obsessed With Skin Care by geneithpharm: 8:45am On Jan 27, 2018

Taking care of our skins is very important and a part of our everyday life. But if you love your skin so much then you can relate to this blog post. In this post, we are going to be giving you 5 things about your skin you already know if you are obsessed with your skin.

1. DRINK A LOT OF WATER:

We must have heard this point everyday of our lives, but it’s not a myth but a fact that our body is made up of 70% of water and if your body gets dehydrated frequently it starts to show on your skin.

Taking lemon and coconut water are even better but it can also be an expensive life to maintain. If you just increase the volume of water you take in a day, you will start seeing the changes on your skin.

2.SMOKING KILLS YOUR SKIN:
Smoking doesn’t just kill the lungs but also the skin. Even if you don’t smoke, frequent exposure to smoke signals can make you look older than you are supposed to.

3.STRESS CAN CAUSE SKIN DISEASES:
You don’t have to worry only about skin disease when it comes to stress, stress is the number one cause of 90% of all the diseases that affects us. When you are stressed out, it triggers a release of cortisol and other hormones into your system. It can cause you to breakout and also cause hives or exasperate existing issues such as eczema and psoriasis.

So we personally need to find a way of dealing with stress in our lives like exercising, reading, taking a massage or even volunteering. This activities can make our body and minds to relax.

4.EATING BALANCED AND HEALTHY DIETS:
When it comes to diet, it is not just about eating foods that make you look slimmer, not eating healthy food also can make your skin look dry. Excessive intake of sugar and caffeine can also cause inflammation and prevent your body system from functioning properly.

So it is best to avoid foods high in fat with carbs, sugar, and caffeine to help your skin look more beautiful.

5.THE SKIN IS THE BODY’S LARGEST ORGAN:
This may not be related to skincare, but it is a fact every human being with a skin should know. The skin and not the liver is the largest organ in the human body. The skin of an average adult weighs between eight to nine pounds, and it also grows faster than any other organ.

But we all have to learn to embrace the cold because most times it’s just what you need.

Health / Why We Feel Backpain And How To Get Rid Of It by geneithpharm: 7:46pm On Jan 04, 2018
http://www.geneith.com/2018/01/backpain.html?m=1

Back pain can be really frustrating when you are its victim, and if not paid proper attention to it can cause disability even to youths: you may just end up seeing all your dreams and aspirations end up with you on a wheelchair or on top of a bed. This article is not to scare you with that but rather to give you knowledge on why you are experiencing that back pain and also what you can do to get rid of it.
So if you are experiencing back pains, you are experiencing it for one of these reasons:
Common muscle and ligament issues: From the fact that common is attached to its name, it is the most common reason for your back pain. You don’t really have to stress yourself about this one because it heals after a few days or weeks. You can get this type of back pain from doing strainous work like carrying a heavy bag or bending frequently and end up ever stretching your muscles and ligaments in the process.
Disc Injuries: If you think you have disc injuries then you should be concerned and probably see a physiotherapist or a medical doctor because you may not be standing for a very long time. The discs are composed of a capsule of connective tissue surrounding a soft, jelly like center and they are found between each pair of vertebrae. They are function like shock absorbers and sudden force or physical stress and strain can break one open, when this happens it is called a ruptured or hemiated disc.
Accidents: This includes car accidents or common accidents like falling, sprains and strains and even fractures,
· Spondylolisthesis: The name looks scary and it is. In this condition, a spine bone shifts out of place. Arthritis is also a degenerative form of Spondylolisthesis, which weakens the joints and ligaments keeping the spine aligned.
· Osteoporosis: This is a medical condition where your bones are weaker than they should be, and this makes fractures more likely to happen even in the spines.
· Spinal Stenosis: The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves that send signals between your brain and your body. If the space around the bones which surround your spinal cord are narrow it can put pressure on this nerves and then result in back pains.
· Osteoarthritis: This affects the joints. Normally a firm rubbery material called cartilage covers the end of each bone. In osteoarthritis, the cartilage breaks down causing pain, swelling, and problems moving the joints.
· Abnormal curvature of the spine: Some people’s spines are curved in such a way that may lead to back pains later in their future.
This reasons given and explained above are the major reasons why an individual can develop a back pain and they are majorly as a result of:
Accidents.
Medical Abnormalities.
Strainous Work.
Infections.
Bad mattress.
Obesity and overweight. etc.

Now we know the major causes of back pains we are now going to write about the best ways to get rid of them on your own. But we still recommend seeing a physiotherapist even before doing anything we tell you to.
A GOOD NIGHT SLEEP: Since back pains are really common with people who have sleep disorders. Sleeping more often and on time can help get rid of the back pain. You should also try and get a good mattress if you know you don’t have one and also practice good sleeping positions. People that sleep on their stomach are more likely to suffer from back pains. Sleeping on your back or with your side can help a lot. Also invest in a good pillow.
FREQUENT BATHS: Taking frequent baths can also help with your back pain. You also need to experiment on your won with either cold or warm water to know which one makes you feel better. Bathing with cold water and using ice on the affected region can help with swelling and inflammation while using warm water is ideal for reducing tension, cramping and muscle spasms.
FOOD AND DIET: Switching your diet to taking more of foods rich in calcium and magnesium can help reduce your back pain most especially in muscle spasms. Examples of food rich in calcium are raw milk instead of powdered, sardines, Yoghurts, beans, and almonds. While examples of food rich in magnesium are: sweetcorn, milk, cashews and bananas.
Exercises: When you start having back pains. The first thing that comes to your mind is you probably need rest and to totally stay away from exercises. In most situations more rest can mean more problems. Doing some exercises can actually help strengthen that muscle more. If you have a physiotherapist of doctor contact him first before changing your fitness routine. Some exercises that can help your back pain includes: knee to chest stretch, corner stretch, chin to chest stretch, Ear to shoulder stretch and knee to chest stretch
Weight and Diet: We all know the easiest way to loose weight “eat less carbs with calories and frequent exercising: avoid stressful exercises that can complicate the pain”. Losing weight can also help you get rid of that back pain you have taken a lot of drugs for.

If none of the solutions we have given works for you. Then we suggest you see a physiotherapist or a doctor immediately. Because some back pains if left unattended to can increase your blood pressure and lead to other diseases.

It’s funny how social entrepreneurs think, when others are complaining about a problem, he/she is looking for ways to solve them and make the best out of it.

Lorna Rutto is a big inspiration to everyone most especially Women. Her story is one of a great social entrepreneur who saw an opportunity in her environment while other people saw a big problem and probably blamed the government.
Born in the year 1986 in Kaptembwa slums of Kenya. Lorna Rutto started recycling at a very young age. As a very young girl she would pick any plastic litter she could find and recycle it into creative pieces of jewelry and small ornaments by melting, smelting, reshaping and decorating the plastics. She also had an eye for business as she started selling her works at school to pupils and friends for small amounts of money. A few years later she finished high school, attended college where she graduated with a Bachelor of commerce degree in accounting.
She later got a job in banking, but all day she longed to work in the field of science together with people in that field and work towards creating a difference in the world than working in financial systems and structures. She later left the banking sector and started her business in 2009 which we all know as ECOPOST, together with her Co-Founder, Charles Kalama, a biochemical engineering graduate from the University college in London.
In her own words “OUR VISION IS TO TRANSFORM AFRICA’S WASTE INTO WEALTH. WE USE WASTE PLASTICS AS A RESOURCE TO MANUFACTURE AESTHETIC, DURABLE, EASY TO USE AND ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY PLASTIC LUMBER. OUR AIM IS TO CREATE A SUSTAINABLE SOLUTION TO THE GROWING PLASTIC WASTE MENACE, PROVIDE A SUITABLE ALTERNATIVE MATERIAL SO THAT WE CAN REDUCE THE CUTTING DOWN OF TRESS AND CREATE JOB OPPORTUNITIES TO REDUCE POVERTY”.

For readers that don’t know what Ecopost do “Ecopost is a green business manufacturing aesthetically pleasing durable and environmental friendly fencing posts utilizing plastic waste”. Today, Ecopost is an entrepreneurial and an environmental corporate success story. Ecopost has created over 500 jobs and is also looking to create 100,100 jobs in the next 13 years.

Ecopost’s story is an inspiration to all aspiring entrepreneurs and shows YOU how to think like a social entrepreneur and look for the opportunity in every problem rather than waste time and energy complaining about it.

Food / 15 Diet And Nutrition Myths That Are Totally False by geneithpharm: 11:50am On Dec 19, 2017
We all want to live long and healthy lives and to also have a nice and healthy body. The food we eat is one of the major determining factors to achieve this dream life and body. So this makes us obsessed with the concepts of diet and nutrition. We go online and everywhere we can source information on the kinds of food we should eat to make us live longer, get that dream body, and lose weight. But the taking in most of this information is like taking in junk food because most of these information are false.
So in this post we are going to write about 15 diets and nutrition myths that have been debunked by facts and science.

1. TOO MUCH SALT CAN CAUSE HEART ATTACKS AND STROKES.
This is one of the most popular nutrition myths and we should all remember that why you are feeling this myth your mom probably told you when you are growing up is true, salt contains iodine and lack of iodine in your body can also lead to you getting a thyroidectomy. Although lowering your salt intake can reduce your blood pressure by 1-5mm/hg on average it doesn’t have any effect on heart attacks, strokes or death, and this myth is not based upon any solid evidence.

2. EATING FAT MAKES YOU FAT.
This is another very popular nutrition myth. Most people avoid fats like i did till they actually found out this fact was just a lie and fat is actually good for your body and skin. The only thing you need to worry about when taking a diet rich in fats is if it is also high in carbs. Diets rich in fats and high in carbs are the only ones that can make you gain weight and they are really few. Your skin even needs more fats to make it look healthier and glow.

3. SUGAR IS BAD FOR YOU.
Refined sugar is actually pretty bad for you when consumed in excess and this is not because it supplies empty calories but it can also cause severe metabolic problems. But when it is consumed in small amounts it is actually good for your body mostly for those who are physically active and metabolically healthy. Natural sugars found in fruits are actually good for your body even when taken in large amounts because your body processes them slowly.

4. VEGETABLE OIL IS GOOD FOR YOU.
Truth be told, vegetable oil doesn’t have anything to do with vegetables. Vegetable oil is actually made from soy and canola and are refined so well that at the end of their processing it becomes void of any nutrients. They also contain some fatty acids which when consumed in disappropriate ratios can lead to various heart diseases. For oils that are actually good for your health, there are alternatives that don’t come with the risks of Trans fats such as coconut oil, avocado and olive oil.

5. ITS BEST TO EAT MANY SMALL MEALS THROUGHOUT THE DAY.
Food experts will often tell you that eating small meals 5-6 times during the day is good for your body metabolism. But research has shown that eating 2-3 meals during the day has the same effect on calories burned as eating 5-6 meals during the day. Eating frequently only helps people that get hungrier easily, and frequently eating food high I calories can increase abdominal and liver fat.

6. GRAIN PRODUCTS LIKE BREAD, PASTA AND RICE CAN MAKE YOU FAT.
Grains are not necessarily fattening, neither is consuming them unhealthy but taking whole grains instead of the refined ones will help you become healthier and get fuller. Examples of whole grain products are brown rice, wheat bread, cereals and pastas. They contain iron, fibre, and other essential ingredients.

7. COFFEE IS BAD FOR YOU.
Now you are really paying attention to this particular myth because a lot of us can’t do without our coffee-our early morning kick starter. Studies have shown that when black coffee is consumed in moderate amounts (2-4 cups daily) it can be pretty healthy, offering benefits like antioxidant protection and defense against certain types of cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s. It even boosts your cognitive functions, but it is harmful to pregnant women and it can also disrupt hormonal balance in menopausal women or women battling with hormonal disruption.

8. TO GAIN WEIGHT AND BULK, YOU NEED MORE PROTEIN.
For slim people trying to add more weight, eating more proteins won’t make you gain weight. Instead you have to eat enough calories and proteins throughout the day. If your body doesn’t have enough calories, it will convert your proteins for energy.

9. MEAT IS BAD FOR YOU.
The fact that this is just a myth is actually good news for the meat lovers like me. Pork, beef, and lamb are the most complete sources of protein. Studies have also shown that dieting with 25 percent of calories from protein can help you lose as much weight as dieting with just 12 percent. Meat also contains vitamins B12 which is essential to your body’s ability to decode DNA and build RED BLOOD CELLS. Studies have also shown that adequate intake of meat protects your brain against age related shrinkage. Also the only meat that links to heart diseases are those that have been smoked, cured, or chemically preserved. E.g. Bacon and sausage.

10. EGGS ARE HIGH IN CHOLESTEROL.
Studies and research has shown that eggs don’t actually contribute to high cholesterol. In fact eggs are inexpensive source of many nutrients like zinc, iron, antioxidants like lutein and zeaxanthin, Vitamin-D and the brain boosting chemical Choline. You can keep your cholesterol in check by monitoring the type of oil you use in frying your eggs.

11. USING MARAGRINE INSTEAD OF BUTTER WILL SAVE CALORIES.
You may think this is one of those not so common myths. But the rates at which families are leaving margarine for butter is really alarming. And one crazy thing is that butter actually has the same amount of calories as margarine, margarine were just created as a healthier alternative to butter and it is made with vegetable oil. But some margarines are still unhealthier because they contain Transfat that can lead to heart diseases.

12. ALCOHOL MAKES YOU SLEEP BETTER.
Now this myth isn’t entirely true. In most case drinking alcohol before going to bed may disrupt your sleep and increase wakefulness even in healthy adults.

13. DIABETES PATIENTS MUST AVOID SWEETS.
As far as they are taken moderately, they are OK for your body. They can also balance glucose levels if they are balanced with meals to provide a mixture of carbs, fats and proteins.

14. EATING PEANUTS CAUSES PIMPLES.
This is probably another myth your parents, relations, friends and all your well-wishers told you when you were growing up. The truth is, this nutrition myth is the KING OF ALL LIES because of the popularity it has gained for centuries. People think this myth is true because of the oily stuff that comes out of pimples in relation to peanuts being oily in nature. But peanuts don’t cause pimples, pimples are caused by the blockage of skin pores which swell when the natural oil in our body does not find an exit path.

15. EATING CARROT IMPROVES YOUR EYESIGHT.
This is the king of all nutritional myths. This myth has been around since World War II when they were rumors that pilots ate lots of vegetables to keep their vision in good shape. This myth has been flourishing since then. Unless you are way deficient in Vitamin A, more carrots won’t make your eyesight better.

Family / 15 Diet And Nutrition Myths That Are Totally False by geneithpharm: 11:06am On Dec 19, 2017

Health / Re: I Need Urgent Help For Treatment If Apollo by geneithpharm: 10:06am On Dec 17, 2017
Seek medical advice if you have conjunctivitis symptoms - especially extra sensitivity to light, severe eye pain or blurred eyesight. Babies with conjunctivitis need urgent medical care.
It is important for a health professional to work out which kind of conjunctivitis it is so the right treatment can be given, when necessary, to clear up the discomfort and avoid possible complications.
In many cases, conjunctivitis caused by infections will clear up after a couple of weeks without treatment. However, some kinds of conjunctivitis are more serious or are a sign of another serious condition or eye problem such as glaucoma.
Care tips for conjunctivitis include:
1.Stop using contact lenses until the infection has cleared up
2.See a pharmacist for eye drops to lubricate the eye and help with stickiness and soreness
3.Use damp cotton wool to wipe away discharge from the eye
4.Try not to rub the eyes as this can worsen symptoms
Keep washing hands after touching the eyes to help prevent spreading the infection.
In some cases, antibiotic tablets or eye drops may be recommended for severe infections, or if symptoms haven’t improved on their own. These are usually chloramphenicol or fusidic acid

You should test your reaction to alcohol at home first, don't overdo it at the club and stay away from hard drinks if possible. In general it helps most people reduce their (social) anxiety, wich is the reason why enough anxiety sufferers have alcohol problems.
There's also a reason why alcohol is synonymous with social events. It makes people feel "loose".

Health / Re: Help!!! How Do I Get Rid Of These Numerous Dark Patches From My Face. by geneithpharm: 3:56pm On Dec 15, 2017
jooa:
hello..pls I have acne and lots of dark patches otherwise known as hyper pigmentation on my face...pls how do I get rid of the acne n dark patches so DAT my face would become clear? becos my face is do rough and dirty right now...pls if u can help don't hesitate fellow naira landers. I would really appreciate ur comments

my dear,i have three ways for you oooo

1.Use Lemon Juice
lemon juice. Lemons have vitamin C that can lighten dark spots on your face. It’s easy to apply.
Put some fresh lemon juice on a cotton ball and rub it directly on the affected skin area.
Allow it to dry and then wash it off with plain water.
Continue applying this dark spot removal home remedy for at least two weeks to get the desired result.
If you have delicate or sensitive skin, you can dilute the lemon juice with plain water, rose water, or honey. You can also use lime juice to get rid of black spots, applying it in the same manner as described above.
Note: Don’t use lemon juice if you have got open sores or lesions on the skin. Also, avoid going out in the sun after using the lemon juice as it can make your skin photosensitive.

2. Potato
Potatoes have natural bleaching properties that help fade spots, scars as well as blemishes. The starch in potato helps reduce pigmentation, while the enzymes in it promote healthy skin.
Slice up a potato.
Place one slice directly on the black spots.
Leave it on for a few minutes and then wash your face with lukewarm water.

3. Aloe Vera
Aloe vera has many healing properties and is a great natural dark spot corrector.
Extract fresh aloe vera gel from an aloe leaf.
Apply it directly on dark patches and black spots.
Gently massage the area with your fingertips for a few minutes.
Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes, then rinse your face.
Repeat this once or twice daily for a few weeks to fade skin discolorations.

Vitamin E oil and castor oil, too, are useful in getting rid of black spots.
