The Gunners have been poor at the back this season, and new manager Mikel Arteta is under pressure to strengthen his back-four in January.

Koulibaly was previously on Manchester United's radar, prior to the Red Devils splashing the cash to sign Harry Maguire from Leicester City, and is valued at £55million.

Arsenal do not have the funds to compete with the rest of the Big Six, and Arteta was warned by club chiefs that he wouldn't have significant funds to sign new recruits next month.

But Napoli are keen on signing out-of-favour Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac, and the north London club are hoping he can be used as a makeweight to land the centre-back.

Host Ian McGarry said on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window Podcast: “I’ve heard, although can’t confirm, that Arsenal have also made contact with Napoli through a third-party regarding Koulibaly.

“This comes on the back of their desire under Mikel Arteta to strengthen their defence.

“And also that they’ve got some interest from Sead Kolasinac. So you could see the possibility of Kolasinac being offered to Napoli in part-exchange plus cash, although Di Laurentiis prefers cash for Koulibaly because he wants to strengthen his team up the Serie A table.”

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced the dates for the commencement of the 2020 JAMB UTME/DE Sales of form, registration, and examination. This was disclosed by the JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede at a stakeholders’ meeting on Monday in Abuja, where he met with Commissioners for Education from the 36 states.

According to Prof Is-haq Oloyede, the registration for the UTME would start on January 13 and end on February 17, 2020; while the examination will hold between March 14 and April 4, 2020.

He noted that an optional mock examination for candidates will take place on February 18, 2020.

Pope Francis on Saturday called on church leaders for a “change in mentality”, saying the Christian faith is less heeded — even ignored — in the modern world.

New methods were needed to help “reposition our ways of thinking and our attitudes”, the pope warned in his traditional Christmas greetings to the Roman Curia, the Vatican’s top administrative body.

“We are no longer the only ones today to produce culture, neither the first nor the most listened to,” the Argentinian pontiff said.

“We are no longer in a regime of Christianity because faith — especially in Europe, but also in a large part of the West — is no longer an obvious presupposition of living together; worse, it is often denied, mocked, marginalised and ridiculed.”

The change requires “a change in pastoral mentality,” said the Jesuit pope, the first from Latin America in the history of the Catholic Church.

Since becoming pope in 2013, Francis has sought to shake up the powerful and conservative Curia. But he has continued to be met by resistance from many members of the body who reject greater control over their freedom and finances.

In previous Christmas greetings, Francis has taken a harsher tone against the cardinals and bishops within the Curia, calling out “cliques” and “traitors” within the bureaucracy.

Francis has created new “dicasteries,” or ministries, such as in communication, to better respond to a more digitised culture and try to break down the silos between different departments.

In his speech on Saturday, Francis also warned against “the temptation to fall back on the past” instead of “engaging in significant changes”.

Such “rigidity,” he said, “arises from the fear of change that ends up spreading stakes and obstacles in the land of common good, transforming it into a landmine of incommunicability and hate”.

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, late Thursday, received a letter from a coalition of 35 civil society groups urging him to remove the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II if he failed to submit himself to the laws of the state.

The letter was released late Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Abba Anwar,
The letter signed by the Chairman of the Coalition, Ibrahim Ali, stated, “If the Emir of Kano fails to submit to the authority of the government of Kano State, we call on the Governor of Kano State on the strongest term, to act strictly in accordance with the provision of Kano Emirate Council Law 2019 in order to heed the state forward.”
Titled, “Kano State Emirate Council Law, 2019: Demand Letter,” it read in part that, “The coalition of 35 Civil Society Groups under the above-mentioned group (UMBRELLA OF KANO CONCERNED CIVIL SOCIETY GROUPS) is curiously studying the unfolding events in the running of Kano State affairs especially in recent time, as it relates to the lingering face-off between the Government of Kano State on one hand and the Emir of Kano on the other hand.

“Reminding specifically that, matters that arose from the aftermath of Kano State High Court decision nullifying the Kano State Emirate Council Law, that was enacted by the State House of Assembly, which eventually paved way for the enactment of another Law, creating additional 4 First Class Emirates, which also empowers the Governor to take disciplinary measures against any erring emir.
“Soon afterwards, the same Law which repeals all the existing Emirate Councils Laws, and consolidates it in the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2019, was again been challenged first by the purportedly 5 kingmakers from one of the 5 Emirates established by the said law.

“With the recent decision of Kano State High Court, His Excellency shall proceed and ensure the full take-off of the Council of Emirs in the State. So as to stop the current distraction and generation of controversy.”

Chelsea's Olivier Giroud is being pushed even closer to the exit door at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are having identified Lille's Victor Osimhen as a player they wish to bring in in January, according to Sky Sports.

The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, in Cross River, comrade Ben Ukpepi has been kidnapped from his residence.

Vanguard learned that the incident which happened at CROSPIL estate, Akpabuyo, LGA occurred at about 7:30 to 8 pm last night(Tuesday).

A source who pleaded anonymity told Vanguard that the NLC Chairman was outside taking fresh air with some people, but decided to go in.

The source said:” When he went inside the house he got a call, because of the noise inside he decided to go outside to take the call that was when his abductors struck.
For some minutes they waited for him to enter the house, he did not, they went to check on him, low and behold, he was nowhere to be found, that was when the realised what had happened.

“They saw his slippers and glasses on the ground without any trace of him, his abductors also took his phone, his family have been calling his line, but it has been switched off since last night. And his abductors have not called up till now,” the source said.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, DSP Irene Ugbo said she was yet to get any briefing on that.

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Sunday sent greetings to former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, to celebrate his 70th birthday.

Ajimobi will turn 70 years old on Monday (today).

The retired Major General advised Ajimobi, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, to remain loyal to Nigeria and to mentor young Nigerians for leadership as he aged.

Incidentally, Buhari too will turn 77 on Tuesday (tomorrow), an indication that only seven years separate the two politicians.

“President Buhari congratulates the former governor for many years of outstanding achievements in both the private and public sectors, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in places he served, especially at the helm of affairs in insurance and oil sector companies”, a State House statement by Buhari’s media aide, Mr Femi Adesina, said on Sunday.

Ajimobi had exited office in May 2019, after serving out his term.

But, his party’s governorship candidate, Mr Bayo Adelabu, had earlier been defeated in the March 3rd poll by the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Seyi Makinde, the current governor.

But Buhari noted that Ajimobi was a man of upright qualities, joining his family, friends and associates to celebrate him today.

The Presidency added, “The President believes Ajimobi’s forthrightness, patriotism and passion in working for the good of the country and humanity will continue to stand him out as a resourceful manager, exemplary leader and patriot, while commending his contributions as a senator and governor.”

It added, “As he turns 70, President Buhari urges the former governor to remain steadfast in love and loyalty to Nigeria, and use his wealth of knowledge, wisdom and experience to contribute to development, especially by mentoring young leaders.”


Meanwhile the All APC in the South-West on Sunday hailed the former governor, on attainment of the age of 70, saying he deserved all the accolades that would be poured on him on the occasion.

The APC National Vice-Chairman and Chairman, APC South-West, Pastor Bankole Oluwajana, said, “The South-West APC leadership is proud of Ajimobi’s records of service in Oyo State and we value his contributions to the growth of the APC in the state.”

Erling Braut Haaland has told Ole Gunnar Solskjaer he wants to sign for Manchester United, according to Mirror.

The £80million-rated Red Bull Salzburg striker is Europe’s most coveted star and his first-choice destination – if he moves in January – would be to Old Trafford.

But his powerful agent Mino Raiola – also Paul Pogba’s advisor - is keeping all options open for the hot-shot teenager with Juventus desperate to land the Salzburg star.

Haaland visited the training grounds at Borusssia Dortmund and Red Bull Leipzig last week amid reports that Solskjaer flew to Salzburg on Friday to make a last ditch pitch for the youngster.

With injured Haaland missing Salzburg’s game against Hartberg yesterday before a two month winter break many believe the Norwegian has played his last game for the Austrians before a big money January move.

Dortmund are pressing hard to sign Haaland but Solskjaer has tried to tempt him to United with the promise of a place in attack alongside Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

It’s believed Haaland has already visited United’s Carrington training complex and is keen to be part of Solskjaer’s revolution at Old Trafford.

Raiola, however, is being more hard-headed and would like to team him up with another of his clients – Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt - at Juventus.

United are prepared to pay what it takes to secure Haaland – in January if possible – and have the financial muscle to out-bid Dortmund and Juventus.

But they admit it’ll be harder to prevent a deal between Salzburg and Leipzig – with the Red Bull ownership and sponsorship connection a significant factor.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami (SAN), has taken over the case against the #RevolutionNow protests convener, Omoyele Sowore, from the Department of State Services.

A statement by the minister’s Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr. Umar Gwandu, confirmed this on Friday.


The statement referred to a December 11, 2019 letter sent on behalf of the AGF by the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Mr. Dayo Apata (SAN), to the Director-General of DSS, Yusuf Bichi, directing the security agency to “promptly forward all the case files” to the AGF office.

The letter by Apata, who doubles as the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, was a response to a September 9, 2019 letter sent to the AGF.

The statement by the media aide to the AGF reads in part, “The Solicitor-General of the Federation and the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Dayo Apata, SAN, who signed the letter, referred to a letter from the DSS office on September 9, 2019.”

It quoted Apata’s letter as stating that “the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice upon a further review of the case, has directed the immediate takeover of the prosecution of all charges in respect of Omoyole Sowore by the Federal Ministry of Justice, in line with the provisions of Sections 150(1) and 174 (1) (a-c) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).”

The letter requested the Director to “promptly forward all the case

files” in respect of Omoyele Sowore to the office of the

Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.

The statement by the media aide of the minister indicated that the move to take over the case from the DSS was to ensure speedy completion of the case.

But our Correspondent learnt on Friday that the development was due to the disgraceful handling of the case with the invasion of Federal High Court in Abuja by the operatives of the security agency in their bid to rearrest Sowore on December 6.


Malami had said on Wednesday that the Federal Government was investigating the incident.

There was tension in Benin, the Edo State capital on Thursday, over a rally that a faction of the All Progressives Congress loyal to its National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, will hold today.

The Oshiomhole faction will today (Friday) hold a rally for a former member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr Osagie Eze-Iyamu.

Ahead of the rally, 15 people were injured during a clash between supporters of Oshiomhole and those of the state Governor, Godwin Obaseki.

The APC in Edo State had, last month, been factionalised with one group loyal to Oshiomhole and the other backed by Obaseki.

The Oshiomhole faction led by Col David Imuse (retd.), said Friday’s rally was being organised by the party to receive the PDP candidate in the 2016 governorship election, Ize Iyamu.

But there was confusion over the rally on Thursday. Earlier on Wednesday, there was a letter dated 11th December, which was, addressed to Oshiomhole. The letter stated that the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had granted the APC faction the permission to hold the rally.

The letter was titled, “Re-Request for the deployment of police officers to provide security for the All Progressives Congress, APC, rally at Garrick” and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Idowu Owohunwa, Principal Staff Officer to the IGP.

The letter read: “I am directed by the Inspector General of Police to extend his warm compliments and acknowledge receipt of your Excellency’s letter of 10th December, 2019 on the above underlined subject.

“I am to respectfully inform your Excellency that the Inspector General of Police has approved the request and has directed the commissioner of police Edo State Command to provide adequate security for the event as requested.”

But the governor said he was not aware of the rally. Similarly, the APC factional chairman on the side of Governor, Mr Anselm Ojezua, said the state governor and other leaders of the party were not aware of the purported declaration rally.


Rally provocative – Obaseki faction

Ojezua said, “The governor who is the leader of the party in the state and myself who is the state chairman are not aware of any rally. It is therefore highly provocative and capable of creating a breach of the peace.” He urged members of the APC in the state not to have anything to do with the event.

The IGP made a U-turn on Thursday when he wrote another letter suspending the rally.


According to the letter dated December 12 and addressed to the state Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, the IG ordered the suspension of the rally, following growing tension between the camp of Obaseki and Oshiomhole.

The deputy governor had gone to the IG to complain that there would be breach of security should the rally be allowed to go on because Obaseki, as the Chief Security Officer of the state, was not aware of it.

The IG’s letter, signed by Owohunwa, read, “I am directed by the Inspector-General of Police to convey his warmest regards and to acknowledge the receipt of Your Excellency letter ODG.134/59 of December 12, 2019, on the above underlined subject.


“In cognisance of the security consequences of the proposed mega rally, I am to confirm that the Inspector-General of Police has directed the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, to emplace appropriate security framework that is directed at suspending the rally until further notice.

“He has also been directed to summon a meeting of all parties involved in the political development with a view to engaging them towards giving effect to his directives in overriding internal security interest.”


Oshiomhole can’t convene any rally in Edo – Deputy gov

Speaking with reporters in Abuja on Thursday, Shaibu said he lodged a complaint to the IG over the security implications of holding a rally without the governor’s knowledge or approval.

He stated that Obaseki, not Oshiomhole, was the leader of the APC in Edo State and the only one empowered to convene a rally.

Shuaibu further argued that the national chairman was already on suspension from the party in the state and could not act in any capacity on APC affairs there.


He spoke further, “Well, having seen that (Oshiomhole’s letter to the IG), I had to write as the chief security officer of the state to let him (IG) know the situation in Edo State and to also inform him in line with the party’s constitution, that the governor is the leader of the party.

“If the governor that is the leader of the party and the party that he leads want to do a rally in his own state and he has not authorised it and he is not aware, such a rally cannot hold.


“Also to inform him that the national chairman is suspended from the state; Oshiomhole does not have the locus to preside even on any issue that concerns the APC as we speak.

“So, the man that must give voice to whatever is the APC in terms of governance enshrined in the constitution is the leader of the party in the state; that is the governor.

Rally will hold, heavens won’t fall – Oshiomhole group


But Henry Idahagbon, the Convener of the Edo Peoples Movement, a pressure group in the state APC, said the mega rally would hold on Friday as planned..

He stated, “It is fake news (that the rally will not hold). The rally will take place tomorrow at the advertised venue. Heavens will not fall. We will hold the rally whether Obaseki likes it or not. We held a rally for him before he became governor and we are holding this one for somebody else to become governor. Heavens will not fall, this rally will hold.”


When contacted on the phone, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Lanre Issa-onilu, said he was not aware of the cancellation.”I’m not aware,” he simply said.

Issa-Onilu had earlier confirmed to The PUNCH that the rally had the full backing of the national leadership of the party.

Shootings in Benin, thugs block Oshiomhole’s house roads

But thugs on Thursday took over the Benin Airport road shooting sporadically. Bonfires were observed at strategic places in Benin City, while roads leading to the residence of the national party chairman were blocked by heavy duty vehicles.


It took Oshiomhole and other members of the NWC over one hour to get to his residence after soldiers came to disperse the armed thugs.

15 injured as Oshiomhole, Obaseki supporters clash

There was a clash between Oshiomhole and Obaseki factions at the airport road.

No fewer than 15 people were injured during the clash, which occurred about 5pm when Oshiomhole, who arrived in Benin on Thursday, was leaving the airport for his house.


It was learnt the clash started around the APC secretariat on the airport road, where Obaseki supporters were meeting.

A Benin resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “When Oshiomhole and his supporters were coming from the airport, Obaseki group thought they were coming to dislodge them from the secretariat. It was at that point that the clash started and 15 people were injured.”

The deputy governor later visited the injured people who were receiving treatments at the Edo Specialist Hospital, Benin at 10pm on Thursday.


Oshiomhole, who reacted while addressing party members, said, “I know you are hurt with what we are passing through here but I want to plead with you don’t be provoked. Any reasonable party leader will be happy to welcome people from another party into his party.

“Particularly when those coming were people who fought us in the last election. And when you look at the margin then it was like 50,000. So we are in Benin to welcome them but you could see how their thugs are unleashing mayhem on people.


I am not a coward, I am not afraid of fight – Oshiomhole

“But I want to tell you, the APC is our house and we will not destroy it neither are we going to allow anybody to destroy it. We don’t want any one to be killed so please don’t fight back. Those who know me know that I am not a coward , I am not afraid of a fight. But I will not and I urge you to remain calm.


“We are getting conflicting reports now. The IG ordered the Commissioner of Police to give us protection for our rally, but we are being told now that the same authority said it had been cancelled. But I am going to make calls and find out what the problem is, if the police are saying they cannot protect a political rally.

“I will find out and let you people know. But even if they said we cannot hold it, please don’t fight anybody. I will meet them and find out when it will hold. But the rally will still hold some day. We have the right of association. This is not the first time we are seeing situations like this, but I can assure you it will not last forever.


“No condition is permanent. We must do everything to keep the APC in Edo State no matter what the devil thinks. The APC is our house so we must resist any temptation to fight back. We must remember that our President, is a peaceful man. We must remain peaceful and go home and tell everyone, we remain strong. Nobody can shake our spirits. We will receive our brothers into the party to fortify our party,” he said.

Governor Nyesom Wike has urged Kalabari leaders to call to order, the Amanyanabo of Kalabari, Amanyanabo of Kalabari, King Theophilus J.T. Princewill, for hosting Governor Seriake Dickson of neighbouring Bayelsa state.

Wike, addressing visiting Kalabaris leaders at Government House, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, yesterday alleged that the monarch deliberately allowed the outgoing Bayelsa Governor to use him to promote divisiveness, as cold war lingers between both states over ownership of oil wells in some boundary communities.

He said: “I want to publicly lay a complaint on the action of Amayanabo of Kalabari. Next time it happens, I will act as a Governor. The Amanyanabo of Abonnema didn’t do it, he phoned me when the Governor of Bayelsa tried to create problems in Rivers.”

He accused his Bayelsa counterpart of visiting Rivers without alerting relevant authorities, saying, “He said he was coming to see Ijaw people in Rivers and would be hosted by the Amayanabo of Kalabari and Amayanabo of Abonnema.

“The Amanyanabo of Abonnema called me and said how can that be? Rivers State Governor did not call me. The Amanyanabo of Kalabari did not call me. What he did was to roll out drums to receive the Bayelsa Governor.

“That day I would have removed him, but I held myself. What they would do is to go to radio and abuse me. But I am use to insults. I am trying to complain to you people. You can see how people are trying to divide a State. A fellow Governor would come from somewhere to create division.”

He further accused Dickson of professing love for Ijaws in Rivers, but allegedly busy working to take the state’s oil resources in bother communities of Soku and Kula.

“This is the man who is claiming Kula oil wells and Soku. I have gone back to court and we will reclaim the Soku Oil Wells for Rivers. This is the same man you claim he loves you and you roll out drums against protocol.

“If any of such things happen again, I will take the necessary action. I will not listen to any further excuse, that is why I am saying this publicly. Tell him to respect constituted authority.

“It is not good for anyone to come and divide Rivers state because the state is one. It is unfortunate what my colleague did. I handed him over to God and prayed for God to do his will”, Wike.aid.

He commended the “Amanyanabo of Abonnema for his peace initiative. I urge other Traditional Rulers to emulate him. Work towards peace amongst your people. You cannot live where there is no peace. It is impossible to have governance without peace. So you need peace in your domain.”

A middle-aged lady, Monica Umoh, on Thursday, stabbed her close friend simply identified as Faith to death for allegedly dating the same married man with her in Calabar, Cross River.

Vanguard gathered that the incident occurred at Nyong Idibi at 2nd Transformer, Inyanasangh, Calabar Municipality local government area when two friends started a fight over a married man they were both dating.

An eyewitness, Fred Imoh, said both ladies were dating a married man.

According to him, trouble started when the victim discovered that her close friend whom she introduced to her man had gone behind her to date and sleep with him.

Imoh said: “A fight broke out when two of their friends were having an argument over their own matter (both of them were also dating one man) that was when the deceased brought up her own case with her friend whom she accused of sleeping with her man. They started a big fight which led to Faith’s death.

“They started quarreling before it turned into a big fight when Faith (the deceased) went in search of a knife to stab Monica, but she (Monica)was faster than her. She got a knife from her mother’s shop and in the heat of the fight she stabbed Faith just below her ribs and the deceased fell on the spot.

“She ran away from the scene of the incident while Faith was bleeding profusely and before she could be rushed to the hospital she had already lost a lot of blood. She died before she got to the hospital.

As we speak, the girl is still at large and the man in question is not well known. We only know that he is military personnel and the deceased has been deposited at the morgue.”

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday sentenced a 24-year-old man, Innocent Ahuwuanya, to two months imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone valued at N65,000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs G. O Anifowose, ordered that Ahuwuanya should serve his term at Kirikiri Correctional Centre after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.

Anifowose sentenced the convict without giving an option of fine.

”I hope this will serve as deterrent to others who intend to commit such crime,” she said.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Felicia Okwori, told the court that Ahuwuanya committed the offence on June 18 at Crest Inn Hotel, Balogun Street, Oshodi, Lagos.

Okwori said that Ahuwuanya stole the Infinix Hot 5 mobile phone from where it was being charged at the reception of the hotel.

“He was arrested when the CCTV footage camera at the reception was reviewed,” the prosecutor said.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.(NAN)

Marcus Rashford has revealed that Rio Ferdinand was his first ever Manchester United idol — after he brushed past him in the canteen at Carrington.

Rashford has graduated from a United schoolboy scholar to a key player in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's current first team and was interviewed by former England striker Gary Lineker's Goalhanger Films about growing up at Old Trafford.

He was asked which United great he first idolised, with Ryan Giggs or David Beckham expected to be among the answers.

Approves Conference Committee report on Finance Bill

The Senate on Wednesday received the 2020 statutory budget proposal of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

This was even as the upper chamber approved the report of the Conference Committee of the Senate and House of Representatives on the Finance bill passed by the National Assembly recently.

President Muhammadu Buhari, in a letter dated December 10, 2019 and addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, requested the National Assembly to consider the 2020 budget proposal of the FCTA.

Buhari, in his letter, explained that the request to the Senate was in compliance with Sections 121 and 299 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

The letter reads: “Pursuant to Sections 121 and 299 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), I forward herewith, the 2020 statutory budget proposal of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, for the kind consideration and passage by the Senate.

“While hoping that this submission will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, Distinguished Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration.”

Meanwhile, the upper chamber also on Wednesday referred President Buhari’s request for the confirmation of the Chairman and Members of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to the Senate Committee on Finance.

It also referred the President Buhari’s request for the confirmation of Edward Lametek Adamu as Chairman, Assets Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) to the same committee for further legislative action.

The Committee, which is chaired by Senator Olamilekan Adeola, is expected to submit its report on December 18, 2019, before the National Assembly adjourns on Thursday for the Christmas break.

Men of Ogun State Police Command last week arrested four men for shooting a herdsman in Odeda area of the state.


This was contained in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officers in the state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

Oyeyemi said the suspects; Ogunseye Funso, Ominyin Benjamin and two others attacked one Abubakar Idris and his brother while moving their cattle to Ijebu-Ode from Olugbo village via Odeda, On the 4th of December 2019.

The PPRO said the suspects suddenly attacked them in front of Iporo Fadipe Community High school and shot his brother at the back of his right leg thereby causing him grievous body injury.

He noted that, on the strength of the report, the DPO Odeda division, CSP Williams Ajayi mobilized his men and raised to the scene where the victim was met in the pool of his blood.

He added that, the victim was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical treatment while effort was intensified to get the suspects arrested.

He stressed further that, the efforts of the detectives yielded positive result on the 6th of December when the four suspects were rounded up in their hideout on a tip-off.

A dane gun with which the victim was shot was also

recovered from them.

They have all made confessional statements to the police. The victim is also responding to treatment in the hospital.



Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Kenneth Ebrimson has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to state criminal investigation and intelligence department for further investigation and prosecution.
