mukina2:Old Roger is dead and gone to his grave, hum, ha, gone to his grave, ![]() Where is Ika!!! |
ikamefa:Indeed you're not, Ika! What exactly is going on here, and who are these men falling over themselves for you? ![]() ![]() |
fineyabber:Sorry, fineyabber matey, don't mean to spoil your fun. . . but isn't it a bit insensitive when you class an (not real, I know) AIDS patient as a non-human being? Ciao! |
Kobojunkie:Your submission is full of good intentions, but often incoherent and your logic is often flawed and inconsistent. For example: There are cases where people with PhDs have been seen driving cabsThere are also cases where people with MScs, MBAs and whatever else, as well as people with no academic degrees whatsoever, have been seen driving cabs. So what exactly is your point? Also: , and even homeless people with PhDsSee above. If your point is supposed to be complementary to bluebands' argument, then it falls woefully short. Blueband has diligently sought to support his assertion that PhD holders do in some cases drive cabs due to perceived economic benefit (as opposed to intellectual satisfaction), although I cannot say how successfully he has done this. You, on the other hand, are trying to prove what with your assertions? @ Akolawole: Akolawole:Kobojunkie has already made this point, although with regard to a different educational system. It is not rare at all. In fact it is increasingly more common at the top UK universities (OXbridge, IC, UCL, etc) that people go right to their PhDs from their undergraduate degree; and conversely less common to see people who have first done an MSc. |
blueband:Interesting. I stand corrected. Do you like butter also? |
@almondjoy I cannot believe that you have a PhD and are driving a cab in NY. Either you wrote this in jest or there is something wrong with your story. Of course, that could be the career path you have chosen, although I seriously doubt this. almondjoy:This is nonsense. I am sure you do not mean this to be taken seriously. Just compare the education our parents received without PHDs to the ones our jet age institutions in Nigeria are producing now. A so called "Standard 6" holder, like my grandfather in those days--pardon my archaic expression--will put any modern day PHD holder in Nigeria to shame when it comes to simple comprehension and verbal/written skills. Most of these so called PHD holders are part time spare parts dealers at Alaba, New Benin, Onitsha or Aba. Just look at what most of the so called representative sample of Nairaland Youths--are churning out here. You wonder if there is any hope at all.Ridiculous, unsubstantiated bollocks again, I say. Why do you make these sweeping statements that ultimately have no meaning? I agree that the majority of the lecturers in Nigerian government universities have no business being there in the first place. But does that make the requirement of a PhD to lecture an unnecessary measure? I think not. |
