Getting admission into a Nigerian University has become a feat that only the 'strongest' achieve. This is because of the limited spaces available for admission, as against the large amount of people that write the JAMB examinations annually.

In the just concluded JAMB 2013 examination, about 1.7 million candidates sat for the exam. While the body responsible for conducting the Universities entrance exam disclosed that only 520,000 slots were available in Universities and Polytechnics nationwide.

Nigerian Universities/Polytechnics have the capacity to admit more than twice their current rate, that is if they take advantage of prevailing technologies.

However, lots of foreign Universities have used these tchnologies for their benefit, by providing distance learning programmes for undergraduates and graduates through the internet. The successful completion of these programmes earns the student a Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate degree that is equivalent to what any other university offers.

Below are 12 good reasons for you to opt for an online degree.

1. Self-paced learning - You can learn at your own pace. Students have being known to complete their programmes in shorter time periods.

2. Overcomes personal, travel, geographic, or time constraints.

3. Reasonable tuition - In most cases, the tuition fees is much cheaper than those of traditional universities.

4. Flexible learning opportunities for flexible professionals.

5. Courses delivered over a network of global affiliates.

6. Fast tracked programmes - degrees are awarded to those who have gained valuable experience, training and academic attainment.

7. Allows you to keep working while studying.

8. Learn from the comfort of your home.

9. Admission process is very simple and all necessary information are available on our site.

10. Transfer credit - applicants who have successfully achieved previous learning and academic achievement can transfer their credit onto completing their degree programs.

11. Wide options for payment

JAMB Result does not guarantee Admission, says Unilag VC

"Those who chose University of Lagos as first choice and scored 200 and above would be invited to come and write Post-UTME. We (Unilag) are the most subscribed University in the whole of Nigeria and normally, we don't take more than 10% of them for admission and by the time the admission list is compiled, you can come back and I will give you the real statistics of those who make it through. It wouldn't still be different if the 50% of the applicants had scored above 300 marks. That does not count." said Prof Rahamon Bello, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos.

He was speaking in an interview with Guardian newspaper over the weekend.

For those applying for admission into Unilag, e-learning Nigeria offers a turn key learning solution for Post-UTME 2013/14 preparation. Visit www.e-learningnigeria.com

Congratulations to all JAMB 2013 candidates out there. For those of you who were able to score 200 and above I say kudos to you.
However, the greater hurdle lies ahead with the Post UTME examinations conducted by the various institutions. One thing for sure is that your JAMB result is likely to account for 50% of your aggregate score that will qualify you for admission.
That automatically means that the Post UTME will account for the remaining 50% of the score. A little piece of advice for the prospecting students. PREPARE! PREPARE!! PREPARE!!!
The more informed you are, the better your chances are of scaling this remaining hurdle without much sweat. Get as much information as possible concerning your school(s) of choice, course, examination question types, the school culture etc.
And very importantly, acquaint yourself with the past questions and examination guides.
For those that will scale this year's Post UTME and gain admission, I say congrats in advance.
