kingofmoney: Please I have 2 issues to resolve now in http://fairylandmag.com/. I added ©Copyright fairylandmag.com 2014. Pls how do I centralise it?

This code should do it <div align="center"> <p>©Copyright fairylandmag.com 2014</p></div>

The align="center" will centralize the contents of the container (<div> ).

kingofmoney: Secondly I posted something on the homepage about Ogbeni Rauf. I wanted the pic of Ogbeni to show at the left side with the text beside it by the right but it only shows when you click "continue reading" with the text not agreeing to position itself beside by the right rather it went below. Please do I make it happen so that anytime someone opens the site, it will see the pic first?
Thanks

Wordpress by default does not format the post summary to appear with thumbnail (smaller pic size) positioned to the left. Though some templates come with this feature. Your best bet is to use plugin to achieve it.

There's a particular plugin I used on http://findconsatdealer.com/market-place/ to place thumbnail and texts. The way it is arranged is purely my choice. You can configure the image to the left while placing the text to the right. The name of the plugin is Content View. You can search for it from the Wordpress plugin repository and configure it appropriately.

When installed, click on Add View under Content View Settings, and you add a view that creates a shortcode you can place on any page or post. Under the Display Settings of the View you created, you see Layout Format of an output item, select 2 columns — Show thumbnail on the left/right side of other fields and add other values.

Hope this gives you what you want.

kingofmoney: Pls how do I rearrange my pages in http://fairylandmag.com/:
Home

Style and Beauty
Woman’s Angle:
About Us
Children’s World
Contact Us
Events
Healthy Dose

Woman’s Angle

Like e.g bringing About Us to the last below woman's Angle etc, just where I want any to be. They arranged themselves alphabetically. In blogger you can move them about
Thanks

Log into the Admin, from your Dashboard, click on Pages and all pages created on your site will be displayed.

When you mouse over any of the pages, you are presented with options, click on Quick Edit and you see an expanded edit options. To reorder your pages, you need to edit the value in the Order option. The way Order works is that pages are arranged in order from lower numbers to higher numbers. A page with Order 1 will appear on your Menu before a page with Order 2. A page with Order 2 will appear before a page with Order 4.

Changing the Order value to organize the pages should enable you arrange them appropriately. This should resolve it.

After paying for your domain and hosting, you can login to your cPanel by typing www.yourdomain.com/cpanel. Replace "yourdomain" with the domain name you registered with.

Your web host will have provided you with a Username and password for your cpanel login. Once logged in, depending on the version of cpanel you're using, you either launch Softaculous under Software/Services section, or launch Wordpress under Softaculous App Installer.

From there it is quite explanatory to instal Wordpress. Click on Install, and you're provided with set up configuration. If you're using SSL, Under Choose Protocol, select either https:// or https://www. For the option of In Directory, delete the wp there and leave blank. Choose your Site Name, Site Description, Admin Username and Admin Password. You can always change them later.

Click on the Install button below and your Wordpress site will be installed in less than two minutes.

You're up and running and ready to go.

The next step is to install your plugins, and a new theme that you choose. The plugins installation follow the same steps as outlined when installing on a XAMPP server. The only difference between the two Wordpress installations is that one runs on a local computer, and the other runs on a web server on the internet.

PS: It's going to be a small project maybe with 50 items to be listed and just few categories then can expand later.

That should cost N40k.

Great info, what if i want you to do all these for me, how much will you charge me ?

Your domain name registration, basic SSL, web hosting and design would cost from N50k (this excludes cost of payment processor which will cost you N1,000 for a business account using VoguePay and N150,000 using Interswitch).

But this pricing is nothing compared to what it will cost you in terms of administration, if this job is contracted out. That's the essence of this thread, so that virtually "anyone" can get his/her E-commerce going with very minimal cost. And also manage the site themselves

If you've followed through on the plugins installation steps, you have an E-commerce with basic features set up. You can add other plugins you choose to.

Next I'll be looking at setting up your Wordpress installation on an online web server (most likely using one of the available web hosting coys).

You need to have a domain name registered, as well as web hosting for the website. Make sure the hosting coy provides you with cpanel. It makes Wordpress and other CMS installation seamless and much easier.

I know some christian denominations discourage marrying outside their denominations, even though it isn't strictly enforced.

Individuals also have their preferences. For me it boils down to the individual and their understanding of Christianity.

What's your take?

kingofmoney: My lecturer you rock, it has disappeared. Thanks a lot. In some forums I'm seeing child themes-"you have to create child themes other if word press updated you will loose changes" I don't understand. Does it apply to my case? If so how do I go about it?
God bless

Wordpress plugins and themes are updated from time to time. These updates are usually meant to fix issues with codes.

If a theme is updated, it's usually that part of the theme that has a problem, the theme codes are completely changed when there are upgrades. In your case even if there is an update, the change you made is most likely to remain. If the update reverts your change, you can do it again.

There are some themes that allow you to remove the footer credits without having to go through the code editor, if you can find them it would be a lot easier for you.

About child themes, some CMS allow you to create child theme (theme that inherit the functionality from a mother theme but allow you to make changes that will not affect the mother theme). That way, even if there are updates or upgrades, your customized child theme will still retain the changes that you made.

But then, the choice is yours.

kingofmoney: Designing this: http://fairylandmag.com/, now after stumbling on this class. Is the template I chose ok. How do I remove "Proudly powered by WordPress | Theme: Expound by Konstantin Kovshenin" at the footer. Anyone with answer please?
Thanks

Removing the Footer credits require you to edit the php files directly, so you have to be careful cause any mistake will result in problem with the theme.

When logged in as the admin, from your dashboard, Click on "Appearance" and then "Editor". This will bring the page that contains the codes for your current theme.

On your right hand side, Click on the link "Footer", this will load the the file footer.php

On the 13th line of code, " <?php do_action( 'expound_credits' ); ?> "

Just add "<!--" and "-->" respectively to the beginning and end of the code.

So it becomes

<!-- <?php do_action( 'expound_credits' ); ?> -->

Once you've done that. click on the button below "Update File" and the changes will be made.

The characters you added at the beginning and end of the code turns the code into a comment and therefore will not be displayed by any browser.

Note. Please do not make any other changes to the code except you know what you're doing.

4. Voguepay Woocommerce Payment Gateway. Voguepay is a Nigerian Payment Gateway. You must have registered on voguepay website, preferrably a business account. This payment gateway makes it possible to receive payment form Visa, Mastercard on your website.

Before you start accepting payment on your site, login to your Voguepay Account go to Account Preferences then API Settings, then set Enable notification API and Send Transaction ID to Success and Failure Return URL to Yes. Then click on Save Changes for the changes to be effected. It is very important that you do this before you start accepting payment on your site.

I recommend using Voguepay cause it cost almost nothing to have a running account. If you open a business account, you only pay N1,000 for verification and your account becomes active.

WordPress plugin

As earlier stated, WordPress has an architecture that supports extension of the core application. These extensions comprise mainly of themes and plugins. There are tens of thousand of these add-on, and virtually every feature you would need has being created in a plugin.

Those with the skill can create their own plugins if they don't find any that fits their specific needs.

Wordpress plugins are scripts (light software applications) designed to add functionality (features) to your website. Features like Google map, contact form, anti-spam, mobile web, E-commerce etc can be added to any WordPress site by simply installing the plugin.

Some plugins require other plugins before they can function properly, while others are standalone. Plugins also come in free, trial, and paid versions. You always get the most features from the paid versions.

Aside of the version of the Wordpress installed, what truly differentiates on site from the other are the plugins installed.

For our E-commerce website, the plugins used are listed below (note that you are at liberty to add any other plugin you feel would be beneficial for)

1. Woocommerce - It's an open source (free) plugin that gives E-commerce functionality to your WordPress site. It's one of the most used E-commerce plugins, with lots of other plugins built to work with it. The great thing about woocommerce is that it gives you enterprise-level features, a very powerful tool in your hands.

Whether you're operating a superstore selling thousands of products, or a just a sole trader selling hand made arts and crafts WooCommerce has you covered. You can read all about WooCommerce' features on the WooCommerce website.

Payment Gateways and Shipping Methods are important to any store - WooCommerce comes bundled with several popular options including PayPal Standard (for accepting Credit Card and PayPal account payments), BACS, Cash on Delivery, flat rate shipping, and free shipping.

Free Extensions

WordPress.org is home to many cool free extensions for WooCommerce made by other developers including the Admin Bar Addition, Delivery Notes, Affiliates Integration Light, Custom Product Tabs Lite, and the WooCommerce Customizer.

Search WordPress.org for WooCommerce to see everything that is available.

Woocommerce also has lots of premium extensions that adds specific features. You can get the list of them on their website http://www.woothemes.com/woocommerce/

marv1: Am following bro... With customised plugins in wordpress how does html, css coming here .thanks.

Knowledge of HTML and CSS are essential for customizing your theme. Though most themes allow you to modify background image, header image, background colour, and some other features. There are limitations in the extent you are allowed to make changes from the Wordpress admin panel.

However, with HTML, CSS knowledge, you can make the theme "your own". This allows you to modify almost anything about the theme.

For plugins, you require PHP knowledge to modify. But this is not advisable, if you find that there are issues with a plugin, you should contact it's designer. Modifying a plugin would most certainly lead to problems in its functionality.

I want to build a website for my secondary school. Hope wordpress can do this. the site should be able to accept filling/submission of forms & students chat area. thanks.

Thanks. Wordpress should do it.

For a school website, it depends on the features you want. Wordpress has plugins that are designed to handle school administration. There are even plugins that will handle most features of a Learning Management System (LMS), some are free but the ones with full features are paid for.

Download Wordpress from https://bitnami.com/stack/wordpress. The great thing about the Wordpress installer downloaded from Bitnami site is that the Wordpress automatically instals into XAMPP, making it a much easier installation process.

After installing the Wordpress, you access it using the URL, (Always make sure you launch the "xampp-control" file, Start Apache & MySQL, everytime you want to access your web page, if not the page will not load"wink type into your web browser http://localhost/wordpress/ and you will be directed to your wordpress site.

If you see the welcome page for your Wordpress, means installation was successful, otherwise, you might need to go through the steps all over to find out where the problem arose from. If you still have trouble finding out the source of the problem, you can state it here on this thread and we will address it.

Politics / Re: Capitalism : The Most Lethal Ideology Man Has Ever Created by genny2kuk(m): 6:46pm On Jul 28, 2014
abiodunalasa: Capitalism : the most lethal ideology man has ever created.

Evil begget evil, so they say. The origin of Capitalism is a witness to this saying. The study of Dialectical materialism made us understand that it is the full flegde practice of Feudalism that gradually evolved into Capitalism.
A develish economic mode called Feudalism, based on land ownership and control, in which the society is pragmaticaly divided into two i.e 'serfs' and the 'lords'. It is this practice that led to establishement of a more devilish mode called Capitalism, in which the society is divided into three i.e 'the bourgeoisie', 'the proletariat' and 'the political class' . This history of Capitalism carries more universal truth than Weberian, Calvinian or Protestant's perspectives of the evolvement of Capitalism.

Indeed, upon the witnesses of the various events precipitated by Capitalism since after the first world, especially during the cold war, uptill this modern time, I have come to the conclusion that to simply conceptualize Capitalism as the principle of private and free market enterprise is wrong.
It is more wrong to say Capitalism enhances the practice of Democracy. And its graviously wrong to say Capitalism gives equal opportunity.

With the aid of examples I shall briefly justify these. avouchments.

To start with the first error, it has been established that Capitalism readily fulfil the dark wishes of man which include :
1. To rise above all others at whatever cost.
This is evident in how man will get involved in all kind of shady trades or become enmeshed in 'rat race' just to outshine his brothers, flaunt his successes in the society, and to prove to his neighbours how masterful he is.
This is also seen in how Countries get involved in the arm race. Spending billions of dollars that ought to have been used for health care, education and food security, but instead used to produce weapons öf mass destruction just to strike fear in the heart of their neighbours and to show the world how superior they are.

2. To dominate, control, exploit and impose ones will upon others.
This is exemplified by the experience of World war 2, the Cold war, and the Colonial experience through out the world.

3. Regarding collective hopes as subordinate to ones personal preservation.
This is examplified by how Capitalists will rather keep the government away from providing constant electricity than for their sales of Power generating sets or domestic oil sales to dwindle.
And to make sure that government does not take Agriculture seriously so their exorbitant price of imported or domestically manufactured foods does not crash.

4. Regarding Profit as an end on its own, and thus extensively compete to make more and more of it, at what ever cost.
This is evident in how man will make more money from his business but yet does not reflect in the life of his labourers.
Some Men in the Powerful countries will even trick their governments into war, if such war will bring them more profit, even if the war will lead to the death of millions of people.

5. Inclined to competitive situation premise on Zero sum game, and which one seek to win at whatever cost.
This can be seen in how man will kill hundred of people or destroy a society just to crash the value of his competitors.

6. Worst of all, always seeking by whatever means to maintain ones control and domination of the society.
This is typified by how man will give his wealth, money and time to those who seek political positions, and in return the political office holders will do their biding. And sometimes men will rise and destroy any government, society or their fellow men who will not succumb to their dominance and or imperial control.

Now, upon this inherent features of Capitalism, will it not be wrong to merely define it as a Private enterprise system ?

The second error, to say that Capitalism enhances Democratic practices.
Since Capitalism usually divide the society into 'have' and 'have not' , 'privilege' and 'less privilege' , or 'bourgeoisie' and 'proletariat', and on the other hand Democracy means government by the people.
Then you ask your self, who controls the government in such society ? Is it the wealthy and influential locally and internationally capitalists who usually sponsor politicians and inturn politicians do their biddings, or the wretched, poverty stricken populace who are only concern with how to get three square meal a day ?

And lastly, to say that Capitalism give equal oppurtunity is one of the most absord fallacies of all time.
The society is already divided into different classes of those who have and those that does not, the privilege and the less privilege, now how will there be equal oppurtunity in this kind of society ? How will there be justice ? And How will the same law that bind the poor populace bind the wealthy individuals ?
Oppurtunities in Capitalism will rarely be based on hardwork, but rather on how connected you are.
Equality in a Capitalist society is a mirage. Nothing can be more illusional than it.

However, all these woes of Capitalism does not mean it have no advantages. Of course there are many ways in which Capitalism has helped humanity.

I am neither a Communist, a Stalinist, a Maoist, a Leninist nor any other school of thought that espouses Marxism.
I am of a new economic mode called Amytysm. A synthesis of Capitalism and Communism.
The perfect mode for Nigeria society.

A new Nigeria is possible it begins with you.

Nice write up.

Capitalism, is, and never will be the problem. Humans are.

I'm yet to find two individuals who were born with the same opportunities, yet two people with entirely different backgrounds can turn out differently from their beginnings.

Capitalism is neither good nor bad, the concept of capitalism has being tainted by human practices, which is largely due to their interpretations. Nigeria, and by extensions Nigerians, have a way of turning things upside down, and the practices of capitalism hasn't being spared.

Where people's craving for wealth is solely for the purpose of being "perceived" better than their neighbours. Where politicians are ready to prostrate before you in order to get your votes, but when sworn into power, use the same to oppress the citizenry. That's the kind of country we have found ourselves.

Capitalism has it's great rewards - Those who perform well with whatever resources they have are rewarded with more resources.

Even nature, (read about "matthew effect" "accumulative advantage" "why the rich get richer" online), you will find that those who are productive are given more opportunities so they can be more productive. While the lazy ones have whatever little resources they have taken from them.

The onus falls on the "wealthy" to remain socially responsive to the less priviledged, that's the only way society can continue existing peacefully. Otherwise, the impoverished people will one day wake up and have the wealthy for breakfast.

Installing Wordpress on Xampp

After the success installation of XAMPP on your computer, you can access it from your C: Drive.

You can build web pages using HTML, CSS, PHP and host it on XAMPP. Ours will be used to host our Wordpress website. To start using XAMPP, you have to first launch the Control Panel.

Go to your C: Drive, and open the folder "xampp", locate the file "xampp-control" and launch it. You will see the image displayed below.

Click on "Start" for both the Apache and MySql options to get your web server running
