2. Don’t hold back when sharing your expertise. Identifying people’s problems and presenting step-by-step and detailed solutions to them is likely to find many takers. But the key is to give out as much as you can.

Don’t hold yourself back. Some businesses make the mistake of giving out only a little on their blog posts, hoping readers will click on the ‘download ebook for only $49.99’ button in droves for detailed answers. Mostly, they don’t.

In our experience, the more you impress people in the form of detailed posts, the more likely they are to buy from you, even when you are not pushing your product in their faces. Don’t tease your potential customers. Give out freely and in good faith. The business will follow.

1. Give your blog a personality. Giving your blog a personality will make it stand out in people’s minds. People get attracted to things for reasons that are often subconscious. When your blog has a distinct personality, like will attract like, and you will receive more readers who are potential customers.

If you run a café, for example, zero in on your specialization (a certain kind of organic coffee, for instance). Give your blog a dominant flavor of it in terms of the color scheme, the emotions you want your product to evoke in people and the place you see your product taking in their lives.

Embrace the essence of your business and let it shine through your blog via a combination of design and targeted content. Marie Forleo’s blog is a very good example of this. It’s quirky, captures the author’s unique take on things and attracts like-minded people in hordes.

When you are starting out, focus on the quality and the tone of your content to build a personality. What are you about? Do you want to be known as humorous, serious, informative, authoritative?

A graphic designer is handy but can be expensive. Make use of the many free-to-use images on the Internet instead. Say in words that which you can’t yet capture in other formats. To eventually develop a personality for your blog and bond with your readers, be consistent with the theme of your content.

You’re a new business without big bucks for your content marketing. You don't have the money to shoot beautiful HD videos or the time to interview celebrities for your blog but that is fine. The most cost-effective way to create a successful blog is to make it a source of quality information that people enjoy reading.

A good blog is the powerful center of content marketing strategy. Here are three suggestions to help you create a blog that people will visit again and again.

kingofmoney: You are great my lecturer. Thanks a lot. I wanted white so I wrote white in place of the red and got it. The second one is the background that contains my pages, you can see it is black. I want to change it to red. http://fairylandmag.com/ Regards

To change your site's background to left, log in to your Admin Dashboard. Click on Appearance, and from the options shown, click on Background.

The page loads with settings for your background. Under Display Options --> Background Color - click on Select Color and the color picker appears. From the picker, you can select red from the shown colors below, and Save Changes.

You can do this for any color you want. This should change the background color.

46. Say goodbye to your social life.

You’re going to spend a lot of time devoted to the business. Even if you plan a night out, you may leave early because a light bulb just went off. Hopefully those closest in your life will understand.

47. Recognize that you'll be the final person to be paid.

As the CEO, you’re the last to collect a check. That’s just how it works until there’s adequate revenue.

48. Arrive at a useful definition of success.

Just because your business hasn’t made you a millionaire (yet) doesn’t mean that your enterprise is a failure. If you’re able to make some sort of profit doing something that you’re passionate about, isn’t that a success story?

49. Realize when it's time to move on.

Failure is inevitable. If things aren’t working out and you’ve done all you can, then put aside your pride and close up shop. Something like this is not easy to accept. But it’s for the best.

50. Don’t just rely on the advice of others.

Despite my offering up all of these tips for you, perhaps the most important piece of advice is something learned the hard way: While many people may offer a startup assistance, recognize that in the end you’re the person running the show and the one responsible for the company's success and failure. If you understand what worked and what didn’t, you’ll burnish the skills and knowledge to run your business.

kingofmoney: Thanks my lecturer for the honour. Please I want to change the color of two things here: the color of this text: ©Copyright fairylandmag.com 2014-All Rights Reserved. Is it possible? Regards

Let me respond to this first, the first will be addressed after I have looked at your site.

To change the colour of the text, you acn replace the code with the following

<p align="center" style="color: red;">©Copyright fairylandmag.com 2014-All Rights Reserved.</p>

Explanations

<p is a tag that indicates that the text is inside a paragraph

align="center" indicates that the text will be centralized

style indicates that you want to customized the contents of the <p> tag

color: red; indicates the color you want the text to appear in red. You can also use the values color: #ff0000; for red.

Which colour would you like to change the text to?

41. Make sure clients pay their bills.

Always be certain to receive payment for your products or services. Instead of being taken advantage of of, establish a time frame for payment. It also wouldn’t hurt to accept credit cards and have an online payment system set up.

42. Find the right employees.

Hire the right people for the job. Even though it's your business, you won't be skilled at every task, which is why you need qualified people to complete the work.

43. Assign responsibilities.

Delegate attainable tasks to employees. This is all about effective management.

44. Know that honesty is the best policy.

If any issues with employees emerge, be sure that they are addressed. No one enjoys being talked about behind their back.

45. Remember that opposites attract.

Hire people with skills and personalities that are the opposite to yours. They’ll challenge you and will bring different skills and talents to the business that you don't.

36. Benefit from word-of-mouth.

Nothing beats some good old-fashioned word-of-mouth marketing. Let friends, family members and influencers in your field spread the word about your product or service.

37. Network.

Don’t be afraid to get out there and show your face to the public, whether at a conference or just being out and about with friend on a Friday night. But try to stay local because travel can dwindle your budget.

38. Provide outstanding customer service.

Interacting with people is a big part of the job. Your business may gain new customers because you made them feel important. For example, Zappos wasn’t the first online store to sell shoes, but the company perfected its customer-service department and won over shoppers.

39. Be sure your website functions.

Potential customers want to know as much about your business as possible and they should be able to quickly access that kind of information on your website.

40. Don’t be overly concerned by the economy.

Some of the best businesses have launched during a recession. In fact, half of the Fortune 500 companies listed in 2009 were founded during such times, according to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation.
Business / Re: 50 Tips For Starting Your Own Company by genny2kuk(m): 9:21am On Aug 25, 2014
31. Avoid fights with partners

If you have disagreements with partners, then sever ties as soon as possible. In-house bickering will prevent you from focusing on growing the business.

32. Don’t worry about dilution.

So an investor has required a stake in the company. Recognize the fact that eventually at one point or another you'll have to give up some control of the business. Accept it and move on.

33. Hire a copywriter.

Unless you’re an excellent writer, hire a copywriter to compose emails for highly targeted customers. A copywriter will also prove handy for press releases and other pieces to spread brand awareness or provide business updates.

34. Prepare for meetings.

When preparing for a meeting with a client, read up on everything that’s available, steeping yourself in information about the industry, that firm's employees and its competition.

35. Don’t fear the competition.

Don’t bad-mouth the competition when talking to investors or customers. There’s no need to become an object of pity. In fact, talking in this manner might even point customers to a competitor who may offer a product or service that you don’t. Remember, when competition exists, there’s a market for your business. Use that knowledge as inspiration to outperform a rival.
Business / Re: 50 Tips For Starting Your Own Company by genny2kuk(m): 10:07am On Aug 24, 2014
26. Deliver the product or service fast.

Your business is a work in progress and if you launch your product or service quickly, you will be able to build a community of customers who can provide valuable feedback that can help you improve the offerings. In the words of LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman, "If you're not embarrassed by your first product release, you've released too late

27. Offer new products or services.

If you already have customers, be sure to hold on to them by providing new products or services.

28. Be patient.

Always keep in mind that success won’t happen overnight. It’s going to take some time before you make a profit.

29. Overdeliver at first.

Once you land a new client, be sure to go above and beyond the call of duty for at least the first month. You’ll have this customer hooked from then on.

30. Blog all the time.

Don’t be ashamed to share both your triumphs and struggles. Customers will enjoy your honesty.
Business / Re: 50 Tips For Starting Your Own Company by genny2kuk(m): 2:43pm On Aug 23, 2014
21. A patent can wait.

Patents can cost thousands of dollars. Wait to pursue this route until you have a few customers paying the bills. A patent is less useful if you can't enforce it or have the money to see it through.

22. Be flexible.

Chances are that your original idea will have to be modified. Being able to pivot and adapt to create what customers want will determine if your business will fail or succeed.

23. Share your ideas with friends and family.

Your nearest and dearest will most likely be the most honest with you about your business. Don’t hesitate to seek their advice and suggestions.

24. Ignore the naysayers.

At the same time, there’s a difference between constructive criticism and someone's quick jab projecting that your business will fail. Follow the example of French Internet mogul Xavier Niel and ignore them.

25. Don’t become angry.

If your idea is rejected by customers or investors, don't just succumb to anger. Find out what they didn’t like, make adjustments and go back to them when you’ve made the changes. There's the possibility that the timing was wrong as well.
Business / Re: 50 Tips For Starting Your Own Company by genny2kuk(m): 2:01pm On Aug 23, 2014
16. Secure permits and licenses.

Apply for state licenses. Pick up a local tax registration certificate. File for local permits, if required, such as a conditional use permit or zoning variance.

17. Buy insurance.

Make sure that you arrange for the proper insurance for your business. This will vary according to the type of business. If you’re working from home be sure that your homeowner’s insurance covers theft or damage to business assets, as well as liability for any business-related injuries.

18. Set up the books.

Figure out if you’re using a cash or accrual system, determine the fiscal year for the business and set up a record keeping system.

19. Choose a business location.

Select a location that best fits the needs of your business, one that offers an opportunity for growth, the right level of competition and proximity to suppliers. It should also be accessible to customers.

20. Don’t worry about an office.

If you’re not making any revenue, then don't concern yourself with an office or warehouse just yet.
Business / Re: 50 Tips For Starting Your Own Company by genny2kuk(m): 12:57pm On Aug 23, 2014
11. Determine the legal structure.

Settle on which form of ownership is best for you: a sole proprietorship, a partnership, a limited liability company, a corporation, an S corporation, a nonprofit or a cooperative.

12. Select a business name.

Decide on a name that best suits your business. Then check to see if the domain name is available online, as well as if it’s free to use in your county, state and in the country.

13. Register your business name.

If your proposed business name is available, register it with the relevant agency in your country, have it trademarked at the state and federal levels and secure a domain name.

14. Take advantage of free resources.

Numerous free resources can offer advice, training and assistance. The internet is a good place to go searching.

15. Determine tax obligations.

Now it’s time to wrestle with the tax obligations. In Nigeria, the basic types of business taxes arise: income, self-employment, taxes for employees and VAT.
Business / Re: 50 Tips For Starting Your Own Company by genny2kuk(m): 12:31pm On Aug 23, 2014
6. Determine the costs.

Do additional research and find out the standard cost factors within this industry. Not only will this help you manage your business more effectively, investors will want to know this.

7. Establish a budget.

Once you determine how much money you’ll have to work with, figure out how much it will take to develop your product or service and create a marketing plan.

8. Find the right investors.

You’re going to need some sort of funding to start off, whether from your savings, credit cards, loans, grants or venture capitalists. Find an investor who shares your passion, someone you believe you can work with.

9. Listen to investors.

Whether you like it, investors do have a say in your company. And you need to listen to their advice or suggestion. But that doesn’t mean you have to do what they tell you.

10. Set up a great support system.

You’re going to be investing a lot of time and resources into your new business venture. Be certain that your family is on board. They must be aware that this process will be challenging financially and emotionally.
Business / 50 Tips For Starting Your Own Company by genny2kuk(m): 12:11pm On Aug 23, 2014
Starting your own business isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s stressful and pretty much demands your complete focus. On the plus side, it can also be a fulfilling experience professionally and personally.

Here are 50 tips on how to make your business come to life:

1. Do a self-inventory.

Not everyone has what it takes to start a company. That’s not to say that your idea is not brilliant. It just means that you may not have the personality traits to handle launching a company of your own.

Before investing any time or resources, evaluate yourself and see if you have some the typical traits of an entrepreneur. Are you motivated, able to adapt and confident? Are you resilient?

2. Develop an idea.

Don’t just start a business because something is in vogue and you think commercializing it will make money. Develop a business concept that you're passionate about related to something that you have experience with. From there, come up with a product or service that you believe can enhance the people’s lives.

3. Test the plausibility.

Once you’ve settled on an idea, figure out how you can make it become a reality. Is the product or service something that people want or need? Can you make a profit selling it? Does the product work?

4. Write a business plan.

A solid business plan will guide you going forward. It’s also needed for presenting your idea to potential investors. Your business plan should include a mission statement, a company summary, an executive summary, a service or product offerings, a description of a target market, financial projections and the cost of the operation. Learn about how to write a business plan at SBA.gov.

5. Identify your market.

Even though you may have detected some interest in your business, you need to do more homework. Assess the market, targeting the customers most likely to make a purchase. Perform a competitive assessment.

Health / Sierra Leone's 365 Ebola Deaths Traced Back To One Healer by genny2kuk(m): 10:24am On Aug 20, 2014
It has laid waste to the tribal chiefdoms of Sierra Leone, leaving hundreds dead, but the Ebola crisis began with just one healer's claims to special powers

The outbreak need never have spread from Guinea, health officials revealed to AFP, except for a herbalist in the remote eastern border village of Sokoma.

"She was claiming to have powers to heal Ebola. Cases from Guinea were crossing into Sierra Leone for treatment," Mohamed Vandi, the top medical official in the hard-hit district of Kenema, told AFP.

"She got infected and died. During her funeral, women around the other towns got infected."

Ebola has killed more than 1,220 people since it emerged in southern Guinea at the start of the year, spreading first to Liberia and cutting a gruesome and gory swathe through eastern Sierra Leone since May.

The tropical pathogen can turn people into de facto corpses with little higher brain function and negligible motor control days before they die.

The virus attacks almost every section of tissue, reducing organs and flesh in the most aggressive infections to a pudding-like mush which leaches or erupts from the body.

kingofmoney: My lecturer, thanks a lot. I got it. This thing no easy o! Please how do I add the widgets I want in the front page like search box, category, archive etc.? How can I put them wherever I want like left, center or right, up, middle or down? Regards. I wish to graduate from this university with first class.

Lol! I confer you first class for embarking on the project.

Most widgets can only be placed on the sidebars and footer regions on Wordpress. To achieve this, again you need plugins. Plugins with shortcode features.

From your Admin Dashboard, Under Plugins, click on Add New and the Install Plugins page will be loaded. In the Search Plugins bar, write Shortcode and click on Search Plugins. Go through the results for plugins that allows you to paste Searchbox, Category, Archive and other features.

With plguins that support shortcode, you can add any widget to any page or post in Wordpress.

kingofmoney: My lecturer, happy to see u back. Thanks. My template already has a home page. Do I still need to create another front page? When you say paste in the text editor, I hope you mean the "text" near "vitual" by the right when posting. Please talk to me like u are talking to an amateur. Do u mean putting the code anywhere in the content. I have done that yet it doesn't work. Where exactly in the content should I place it. Regards

Let's assume that you want to create a unique page that will serve as Front Page.

First create the Page under Pages. In the section where you write the contents of the page, that's your text editor. Right there is where you place the code generated from Content View. When you save the page and visit it, the code generates contents based on the configuration you used while setting the View up in Content View.

To make the page you created to remain as the Front Page, from Your Dashboard click on Settings at the bottom left, from the Drop Down options click on Reading. When the Reading option loads, Change the value of Front page display from Your latest posts to A static page (select below) . Once you do that, the Front page: option becomes active and you can select the page you created and save. When you reload, the changes take effect.

Let me know if u still have issues, I'll upload pics later to illustrate.

Tx. I'm sure anyone following this thread with some doses of imagination can turn out something equally good.

Drop down menu, by default is not enabled. Some things come with this feature, while others don't have it. But that's where the beauty of plugins come into play. With the right plugins, you can achieve virtually any kind of feature for your navigation menu.

Hope this addressed your question?

Programming / Re: Should We Make Mobile Apps Or Web Apps For The Nigerian/African Market? by genny2kuk(m): 5:31pm On Aug 18, 2014
They both have their pros and cons.

Mobile apps are expensive to build, need to be updated/upgraded from time to time (to add new features and resolve bugs), they have to be built for different platforms (BB, Android, iOS etc). There's a limit to the number of apps any person would want to instal on their mobile devices. They are however more likely to be used while accessing the web than mobile sites. They are "more secure" than the mobile site.

Mobile sites on the other hand are perceived the same way as web sites. As a web developer, you might need to build a different version for desktop and mobile users. Mobile sites are much cheaper than their apps counterparts. They are easier to update/upgrade without necessary inconveniencing users. Mobile sites enjoy some form of preference from google when a search is done from a mobile device.

All in all, it depends on the purpose.

This is an Online Digital Store created same way using the steps outlined here. https://www.hundrednaira.com/.

There are additional plugins installed on the site. These are

- PayPal Currency Converter BASIC for WooCommerce
- PayPal for WooCommerce
- Voguepay WooCommerce Payment Gateway
- WooCommerce
- WooCommerce All Currencies
- WooCommerce Coming Soon
- WooCommerce Custom Payment Gateways
- WooCommerce Direct Checkout
- WooCommerce Nigeria States
- WooCommerce PDF Invoices & Packing Slips
- WooCommerce Product Sort and Display LITE
- WordPress HTTPS
- Zopim Widget
- ZWoom - WooCommerce Product Image Zoom

Some of these plugins you might already be familiar with, but on the whole these can achieve a fully-fledged E-commerce website.

One of the most important lessons I've learned from ICT is that you are only limited by your imagination. So go out there and try it out. You never can tell what you might churn out.

Thanks lecturer for the ones you did

Lol! Sorry, got this project that has being taking up my time.

I'm assuming that [pt_view id="e13017645f"] is the short code generated by Content View. What you need to do is copy it and place it in the page you want the contents to appear.

From what I've seen from your site, you might need to dedicate a particular page for Front Page. Once you create that page, make that page you created the static front page. Then open the page to edit, and paste the short code the same place where you place your contents. when you "update" the page, changes automatically take effect.

The short code is meant to be placed in the text editing section of the page.

Just place the code in the same place where you placed ©Copyright fairylandmag.com 2014, I'm assuming that it accepts HTML code. If it doesn't (though this is not advisable), you can open the Theme Editor under Appearance. This is usually a last resort if all others fail. just be careful so you don't modify anything beyond your copyright text
