Facebook is shutting down Friend List Feeds sometime today, according to a message posted in the Facebook app. The feature allowed users to scroll through only those posts from one of their designated friend lists — for example, family, work colleagues, neighbors, industry peers and so on. The end result was a much more personalized version of Facebook — one where you could catch up on the updates that were important to you, without the clutter from Facebook Pages, posts from acquaintances or those from friends whose updates you didn’t care to follow for any other reason. To use Friend List Feeds, you would first have to create a friend list in Facebook. And to be clear — those friend lists are not going away. So if you still want to brag about your professional successes to your industry colleagues or post baby pictures for your family to see, that will still be possible. Facebook’s note regarding the feeds’ shutdown says “don’t worry — you can still continue to create, edit and share to your friend lists.” What’s winding down are the Friend List Feeds, which is a way to read these specific people’s updates in their own separate News Feed within the Facebook app. To access this feature, there’s a section called “Feeds” in the Facebook app that would list all the feeds available to you, based on your friend lists. Friend lists have been around on Facebook for a number of years, but the original version required a lot of manual labor. You’d first have to create a list, title it, then go through all your friends one-by-one to determine who to add. And of course, as you added new Facebook friends, you’d have to remember to add them to the appropriate list, too. According to Facebook’s message, Friend List Feed are shutting down on August 9, 2018 — which is today. However, the feature is still available as of the time of writing. (Facebook said this could be due to an older app version.) The company confirmed the shutdown to TechCrunch. “We’re shutting down this lesser-used feature to focus our efforts on improving the main News Feed experience,” a spokesperson said. “While people won’t be able to view custom feeds from lists of friends, they’ll still be able to create and edit friends lists, and share just to these audiences whenever they post to Facebook. In addition to these options, they can also keep customizing News Feed by visiting News Feed preferences to choose which posts they want to see first, or hide posts they don’t want to see.” |

One could begin with the low moo given by the stationary cow, when the woman walked pass. Deep in her thought, she, absentmindely answered: "oh, jare!" and she headed straight to her farm. A young feminine was roaming the street when she encountered an abomination. A man eating from a public refuse dump. Hey, she blurted, why you be eating from a dustbin?, you dey mad? The man looked up with a mix of anger and scorn. He then replied "if am mad, then you are crazy, if not why are you naked? Recent studies conducted by the, Mental Health Department of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, gave an indicator we might all be going mad. And the aforementioned fellows are not even amongst the 1,680 patients treated last year. Imagine what the results would be when we multiply these by the number of general and private hospitals we have within the country. It's a scary note. Dr Bisi Odejide of ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso, a few years ago aver that over 36 million Nigerians were officially mad. According to him, mental illness is not a respecter of class, creed, religion, race or hierarchy, though many ignore the minor signs. It is estimated that by, 2020 common "madness" like depression, anxiety, and substance related disorders, will finish more people than Aids, heart disease, accident and wars combined. Analyst believe that about 30 percent of our population is currently "mad". But then, whatever figures the experts comes up with, who send sef? Not government, not us, not even my grandma. Madness is part of our rights. In-fact, I heard our Constitutional freedom includes the right to be mad. It is a part of our democratic dividends. And it gives a lot of freedom too. Have you ever seen a mad man arrested for wandering?. There's madness everywhere. Roads, homes, offices, professions, in government policies, markets, e.t.c. Health experts agree that a person don't have to be admitted to a psychiatric home, to be confirmed mentally ill. In essence there are degrees and kind of madness. I can easily identify a few example of madness. "Madness of the leg"- the sufferers can walk from lagos to Abuja, in support of a politician. Ðem fit no even recognize say their Waka Don far. there's also "madness of the mouth"_ check out the pastors, politicians, 419ers, salesmen etc, they talk from both sides of their mouth. Without thinking. Lie through their teet, even to dem selves. There's "Madness of the head"_ the victims forget things easily, could be erratic, irrational. But the worst in my view is "Madness of the heart"_ comes with vindictiveness, hatred, venom, vile and all other emotional madness. So the sufferer of the madness of the heart automatically a victim of the other kind of madness. In the cities of Nigeria, especially on the roads, some say you need to be mad to survive. This madness is reflected on how we drive_ swerving into the front of the next vehicle with impunity. Then, you ask the next man; "are you mad?" or in a lay-man's parlance you dey craze! Without knowing it, madmen have taken over the roads. And the authorities can't do much. The madness at home can only make you more stronger. It's frustrating trying to pay rents, electricity bill, buy fuel and other logistics. And if you are unfortunate to be trapped by a nagging wife or girlfriend, just be writing your will. In the market, the madness has affected prices. A 10,000 Naira worth of item last year is now 50,000 Naira. If you don't want to go higher on the madness, just smile and say "e go better". This madness phenomenon has resulted in many troop-ing to churches, mosque, and various traditional homes seeking for solutions to their conflicts that is within them. But there they meet a different kind of madness. In schools too, there's madness_ high fees, poor learning environment, bullies called cultist, sex-for-mark lecturers, lazy students etc. Education now is for the highest bidder, either in cash or kind. Unfortunately like a madman who doesn't know that he's mad, nobody caught in the various web of madness admits his fate. Why? Because some believe madness is a thing of the mind. Some even argue madness is only mental. Yet, it's as real as other ailments, because it would eventually affect the social strata. Now, there's a new dimension of madness in the air. It's called 2019! Almost everyone is focused on how to rig, sorry, win election next year. Politicians, in their increasing number repeating failed promises, and; the electorates, not minding they'd been shortchanged before. The madness spreading in this land is not spiritual. It touches our physical entities and the earlier we get rid of it the better for our polity. It has little to do with endless prayers and fasting; No spirit being would come to the realm of men to do it. Man, heal thyself! Amen |
