odilibe:@odilibe, Of course it would be stupid to pay for something you could get for free - and that's exactly my point. Peeps with BUDs don't have any business crying over the lack of enjoyable FTA channels on 90cm dishes and less. But if for whatever reason one cannot afford to step up to higher sized antennas it's only reasonable to be willing to give a little something to a company ready to beam these same channels directly to your home. As for adverts, what you have with FTA channels is even worse with PAYTV these days. You only need to spend a few minutes watching Africa Magic showcase, epic, etc before you are bombarded with various adverts thrown at you at ferocious pace every quarter of an hour or so. It gets so displeasing sometimes that I forget peeps are supposed to have paid upfront (even queuing in the banks) just to watch these very channels advert-free! |
Samsamo:Yes, there is. |
odilibe:@odilibe, Remember the days of the old 'arabsat'? Back then when you saw an orbitron dish mounted in any compound you knew the owner is a true FTA lover. Smaller dishes like 90cm and below were used for PAYTV like dstv, merodigital, MYTV, etc. These days, because of advancement in technology we now have free stations on smaller dishes but i'm sure the original intention of satellite service providers was to make the use of those small dishes strictly DTH - and it stands to reason. If I have all these free stations scattered all over the clarke belt which I can track with a motorised 2.4m dish and someone like dstv or mytv or consat decides to put them all together in one complete package and beam them directly to my home (DTH - direct to home service), then maybe I should be willing to pay them for the extra effort. Just my personal thoughts. |
Javid4me:Javid4me, check your mail. i have replied you. |
Saipro:saipro, i agree with you. what you need is a refoiling job not lnb change. that reply was for joxxy01 |
saipro, while i sympathize with you on your troubles, i'll encourage you to always stick with trusted brands. for charge controllers you just can't beat tristar mppt. and there is a reason they are more expensive. remember in solar as in life, you get what you pay for! |
@All, Like life707 said above, to enjoy FTA you need minimum of 2.4m and it MUST be motorised. From my personal experience using my 3-in-1 motorised comstar dish, I find there is very little of any thing breaking on FTA that escapes my capture. The beloved CHANNELS pictured below which peeps are agonizing about and for which MYTv is playing the ostrich game on Eutelsat 16A is very much available FREE on Intelsat 904/C (60E) 3698R, 1666SR. Also, odilibe demonstrated a few days ago that AIT international, silverbird TV etc is available loud and FREE on Intelsat 23 @53W. And on top of this if ERI tv2 @30.5E can give us live sport updates, what then is our stress?
|
saipro, i have my battery life saver (bls) permanently hooked up to my battery bank and they been doing a marvelous job keeping my batteries happy. this year end i'll be doing another turn around maintenance on my bank and i'll see how the nominal voltages hold up compared to the year before. |
joxxy01:joxxy01, if they were working well before till now then you have to check your lnb. do that before tampering with your dish alignment. |
Saipro:saipro, hahaha! my sawed off fuji still lies useless in my house till date as evidence of my mis-adventure! ![]() |
EMMAACHILE:@EMMAACHILE, I'm more interested in what happens after the 9 months subscription. What cost will he incur say in 18months, 24months, 36months, etc? To say payTV is better than FTA regardless of the amount paid, whether one naira or five naira is rather misleading. Peeps like us moved away from PAYTV not because we could not afford the subscription but because over a lifetime it is money better spent elsewhere. |
saipro, you'd probably achieve no signal boost by sawing off the fuji as it is already optimized to max reception the way it is. i tried it once but later regretted it because instead of a signal increase my reception went downhill. |
graphicicon:@graphicon, Check the MYTV link. This is their official website. Again, no mention of 4922A as an approved decoder. http://www.mytvafrica.tv/Hardware.aspx |
saipro, you must be lucky indeed still getting mbcs with a 2.6m dish. in that case your signal drop may be probably due to your fibre dish deterioration. the aluminium foil peeling off is always the hassle with fibre dish. i remember having to refoil my 3m fibre every other year when i still had mine. i'm sure your mbcs will bounce back after taking care of those foils. but again if you could get this much with a 2.6m fibre dish imagine how much more you could achieve with a 3m or even a 4m pan! |
graphicicon:@graphicicon, Your 4922A may not be a MYTV approved decoder. Kindly check their website to confirm this. http://www.mytvafrica.tv/Hardware.aspx |
Saipro:saipro, are you serious? you mean you were still getting mbcs with a 2.6m dish in the south-west up until now or are you just realising they were gone a long time ago? unless you are living anywhere near abuja or in the north, those packages stopped being active on dishes less than 3m going two years now. to enjoy, I'll suggest upgrading your dish to at least 4m minimum unless again your living in the north. btw: nice to see we have common interests. solar + satellites seems a natural combination! ![]() |
Talenty:@odilibe, Talenty is right.AIT with its ever present volume issues is hardly a station to dedicate a whole dish to.Although they seem to have a couple of interesting soaps and drama, the nagging high and low sounds whereby viewers have to constantly adjust their TV volume is really a pain. And to think this problem has been around since inception of that station it makes you wonder. |
hehehe! i laugh with my clenched teeth. what do we expect from 'change' as dictated by a secret sponsor of terrorists?! |
odilibe:@odilibe, Here in the south-south 12226h is not the strongest tp. In fact it hardly flash in some cases but again I guess it all comes down to location as we all know. Still there is no harm in faithchild giving those BBC and CNN tps a try. Remember, right from the inception of this thread, our trade mark has always been to go against the grain and redefine realities on the ground. Adewest did it back then and so did many others. Maybe we may well see faithchild pulling down nilesat signals hitherto thought impossible in the south west. With just a little gumption we can yet again break the myth! |
agkilis:@agkilis, I'm afraid nothing new besides what has already been discussed on the thread. |
faithchild:Hello faithchild, Sorry I'm seeing this a little late but without meaning to discount what others have already posted, I think you're very much on track to getting those coveted packages on nilesat. The 10992v tp that you got is usually the first step in the process of tracking nilesat and is mostly used by installers to confirm that their dish is working ok. Now that you've gotten this tp, the next step is to bump your dish upward 2 or 3 notches (with your jack). Forget about your dish neck not being plumb at this stage. It is not necessary - this will only come into reckoning when you want to track the arc from east to west. So, bump up the dish carefully two or three notches and adjust the neck as you go. Change your decoder frequency to 11766h, 27500sr (bbcworld) and watch the signal bars as you go. If it doesn't hit green after 4 or 5 notches, stop and come down again gradually until you get back to the spot where you got 10992v on green and begin to go up again while adjusting the neck.Do this until you hit green. If 11766h is proving difficult, try 11977v 27500sr (CNN). Try and lets see how it goes. Best of luck! |
hmmmmm! oh bros! i hail o! so you still dey eat? ![]() |
osagiemma: bishop4life: Obascoetubi: Swanky092:Check your mailbox |
goalburner:@goalburner, For ogun state you can try minimum of 4m on badr 6. Lets see what gives. |
Penuelseun:@Penuelseun, Check your mailbox. I have sent it. |
saipro, you basically are starting off on the wrong foot. your first and most important consideration should be what total load you plan to run and not on which configuration is better or cheaper. if you really want to avoid disappointments in the future this is the way to go. firstly get an idea of your total house load. that will help you get your optimal battery bank sizing which in turn will give you what number of panels you will need to recharge your bank to your desired soc. after that you can talk of your bos (balance of system) items viz charge controllers, surge arestors, etc does any of this make sense to you? |
@umassor, I'm sorry I saw your post and meant to reply but it skipped my mind. To your question, the last time I checked, I did receive a number of TPs on hispasat but not all although for sometime now I have basically been hooked to 7w (nilesat) but I might revisit and see what gives. As for the star gold fuji, I meant to replace it a while ago but later decided against it after observing that it's performance was almost at par with the red classic but for one or two percentage difference. My thinking was to max out its usage before replacing it. Incidentally this present star gold fuji is turning out to be my longest serving LNB on BUD when compared with others which barely lasted up to 6 months! |
fantastickisses:@fantastickesses, Kindly check your mail for the attachment. BTW, I saw your nairaland pm and tried replying twice but mailer daemon returned the mail undelivered. You may want to check the default email address on your profile and replace it. Either your mailbox is full or it has become moribund due to inactivity. |
@faithchild, @gogodaye, We thank the good Lord for His mercies.Freely we have received and therefore freely we give.Life is not all about how much we can slice off our fellow man but rather how much we are able to make their lives better than how we met them. |
Lafem:@Lafem, It's nilesat 201 pls. |
donmatin:My brother I doubt it. Even in the days of nilesat 101 before the change of satellite to 201, getting MBC on 1.8m in Warri was a herculean task.Even if you succeeded in gething it at 50 or 55% quality, it was never stable. It will go off in mornings and come back at night. Then it always freezes with little cloud cover. Now that the packages have moved on to 201 you need minimum of 3m to get even the 50% signal quality. But if you really want to enjoy nilesat here aim for 4m and above. |
ksliman:@kaliman, I'm using a 4m pan dish with fuji gold 4-way lnb although I plan to change over to inverto red classic very soon. |
