Besides Russia did not dictate to Ukraine on whom they can do business with. What Russia is simply saying is that they do not want a military alliance with their enemies in Ukraine. This same issue happened between USA and Cuba. USSR wanted military partnership with Cuba. Cuba shares a border with USA. Do you know what USA did? They threatend war on Cuba if they went on with the military alliance and the USSR respected this and cancelled the agreement with Cuba. Now why is the USA trying to do same thing to Russia since they could not allow the same in their own territory? Is Cuba not a sovereign nation too?

Ukraine sought to join NATO because of growing Russian aggression. America refuse to back down because they want to clip Russia's wing and make it less aggressive.
