whitecat007: Imbecille bolo!! How are you going to cut and get middle belt out of the north? Long throat killed million of you in the past and it's going to kill more of you this time. How come you have not gone to fight for your dear middle belt as they have been running helta skelta on their own land? Even David Mark is scared to death right now cos he's going to answer his masters for what few of his boys who are drunk on backyard brew are doing. Lets see how they will come out the tight grip to join you when they can't do anything to save their necks from weekly dagger- fest.

Did you read this below? Brain-dead chipmunk, who cares about MB when Nigeria is separated? They are capable of their independent existence, but you SWners are yoked in forever with your aboki masters

Some of us come here to discuss what concerns us and we would be grateful if others are secure enough in themselves to do same. Not you lot. There is something dangerous and mentally unhealthy about how virtually all topics about the SW these days are started by folks who are not from SW States. 90% of discussants on these threads will be from outside the SW as well and contributions will be negative and malevolent mainly. prophetone: The sheer multiplicity of tribes in the middle-belt is the number one reason why their attempt is a failure at birth. The weakness of the MB is

amplified by the constant ethnic wars and battles of supremacy among them e.g the never-ending Tiv/Jukun crisis which always sees each side

seeking/accepting the support of more dominant tribes. Their potency as a political bloc is also diluted by this fact as the rivalry that usually

ensues on a local level, as a result of the different ethnic group's struggle for their own to win promotes disunity and will drastically reduce

their cohesiveness as a political bloc.

I wager that in the end some MBs (especially muslim MBs) will support Hausa Fulani while others (Christians) will not. In any case something will be chipped away from the North (I mean North as a whole) whatever the scenario.. We are fighting a religious war now

Woman Escapes "Ritualist Attempted to Slit Her Throat And Cut Off Her Breast"

Woman Escapes
A 30-year-old woman, Precious Adebayo, yesterday, narrated how she escaped from a suspected ritualist, Taiwo Balogun, who disguised as a commercial bus driver.

Story culled from Vanguardngr, she boarded a commercial bus at Iyana Orile bus stop in Orile Agege Local Council Development Area, LCDA.

According to her, “it was raining at the time. The bus driver (Balogun) was alone in the bus when I flagged him down and told him I was going to Iyana Ipaja.

“He stopped, picked me and sped off. On getting to Mobil petrol station on Old Ipaja road, just before the Lagos State exams board office, beside NYSC camp, he told me that because of the heavy traffic at the Iyana Ipaja under bridge, he wanted to go through some inner streets through Orile Agege LCDA office at Arigbanla. He said he would come out close to Iyana Ipaja through Aboru junction and I agreed.”

Precious said she became apprehensive when it took the driver several minutes navigating through inner streets without emerging anywhere.

According to her, “I complained that I was afraid as I no longer understood where we were and where the driver was heading to. I, therefore, told him to drop me so that I could find my way out to Iyana Ipaja bus stop.

“But he reassured me that we would soon emerge at the expressway where I will disembark. Shortly after this, the driver suddenly stopped in a dark corner and told me that he wanted to pick up something.

“He then came down, entered the vehicle from behind and grabbed me on the throat in a bid to choke me. I struggled to free myself but he held me tightly. He hit my face, head and nose with a wheel spanner and inflicted grievous injuries on my face and head.”

“He used knife in trying to cut my neck but did not succeed. He even tried to cut my breast, but God rescued me. This happened at Canal, near Pleasure, after Sawmill.”

luck ran out on the suspect when his vehicle failed to start. And within that time Precious regained some strength, pushed open the bus door and screamed for help, which attracted people in the neighbourhood. When the driver noticed that people were coming towards them, he abandoned his bus and Precious.

However, the matter was reported to a police team at Iyana Ipaja under bridge who then radioed Elere police station, Agege. Officers from Elere Police Station then took Precious to the scene of the crime in the night and people in the neighbourhood deflated the four tyres of the bus.

Balogun was apprehended around 1:00 am the following morning, as he came back to stealthily remove his bus (unknown to him that the case had been reported to the police).

The case has subsequently been transferred to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti Yaba, where the suspect is undergoing further interrogation.

Students protest non-native's appointment as Amosun's adviser

by Samuel Awoyinfa

Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun

Some students of Ogun State origin in different higher institutions across the country over the weekend protested what they called the appointment of a non-native of the state as the Special Adviser to the Governor on Students' Affairs.

They gave the name of nominated candidate as Godwin Clement, while addressing journalists at the Iwe Iroyin House, Oke Ilewo, AbeokutA.

The students under the aegis of the National Association of Ogun State Students expressed their displeasure with the appointment of Clement who they alleged hailed from Benue State.

They said they would not watch and allow a non-native to sit over their right.

The students argued that such a person would lack the empathy towards their welfare.

The National Chairman of the association, Mr. Omobolaji Sanni, suggested three names of indigenes of the state who he said were competent to occupy the office.

They are Mr. Obasa Ola Clement, (Abeokuta, Ogun Central Senatorial District), Mr. Nuberu Adesanya Olufemi, (Ago-Iwoye, Ogun East Senatorial District), and Mr. Bankole Olalekan Kunle fromIlaro, Ogun West Senatorial District.

He said, "We have done our investigations and we discovered that Mr. Godwin Clement is not from Ogun State but from Benue State. And we are appealing to the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun to change him."

The students also appealed to the governor to review downward tuition which they described as outrageous at the moment.

Two weeks ago, the governor had promised to pay bursary and scholarship awards to the students in August.

The NAOSS chairman said the comprehensive list of students who hail from the state in all higher institutions would be submitted to the governor on Friday.

The students said they wanted the governor to reverse the appointment within seven days, failure of which they would take to the streets in protest.

Effort made to speak with the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu, proved abortive, as he neither picked calls made to his telephone nor responded to the text message sent to him on the matter.

River Niger goes on sale

• NIWA markets newly dredged Nigeria's major river at international conference, exhibition

For three days next month, Eko Hotels and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos, would be agog. Between August 12 and 14, the place will be playing hosts to some august guests from across the world.

Top government officials from within and outside the country, decision makers and top players in the maritime sector, community leaders, representatives of regulatory authorities, financial institutions, oil-prospecting companies, commercial sand-mining firms, dredging companies, operators of hotels, dockyards, restaurants yacht yards, journalists and indeed, major stakeholders in the water transportation sector would converge on the venue. Many will come from outside the country for the three-day event, an international conference and exhibition organised by the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).

The event, the reporter gathered, is the first of such to be organised by NIWA. The theme is Modernising Inland Water Infrastructure and Vessels for Safe and Sustainable Inland Water Transportation in Nigeria.

NIWA's Managing Director, Hajiya Maryam Inna Ciroma, explained that the international conference would provide a platform for dialogue among different groups and stakeholders that are involved directly and indirectly in the nation's inland waterways for the benefit of the economy.

Said she: "The international conference and exhibition has been created, as an opportunity to gain knowledge on the vast economic opportunities available on our waterways. It is a conference for dialogue of the different groups and stakeholders involved in the sustainability, safety and utilisation of our inland waterways for the benefit of the economy and for tourism.

"The conference theme seeks to unveil government programmes, plans and policies, networking and organisational relationships for the different categories in the inland waterways sector."

It would also be an avenue to showcase the capacities of the new River Niger, the dredging of which the federal government has so far expended about N3 billion on.

"It is right for us to bring this knowledge to everybody and we thought that the best way to go about it is to hold an international conference and exhibition where we will exhibit what the dredged River Nigeria potentially has for the growth of the Nigerian economy. We need everybody to know that there is good business for anybody who wants to invest in our inland waterways," she added.

Several stakeholders have argued that the country has one of the biggest maritime potentials in the world, but regretted that such treasure trove had been largely abandoned over the years. Yet the nation's inland waterways, if well exploited, have the potentials to solve key developmental issues in the country and provide soft landing for global investors. And since the essence of the conference is to showcase the potentials of movement of goods and services on water in the country, and promote investments and trade through Nigeria's inland waterways, not a few are those applauding the initiative by NIWA, saying the concept could not have come at a better time.

Mr. Oti Ukpai, managing director of Flintxposture, the firm coordinating the event, said the NIWA-ICE, as the three-day event is designated, would "help expose and capture the full strength of local maritime players, the level of foreign content and the full financial outlay to major stakeholders, including government."

He explained further: "We wish to possibly surpass the inherent and obvious gains of Nigeria's very lucrative waterways, and showcase it not only to Nigerians but to foreigners alike. And stakeholders would have opportunities to meet the real players."

Ukpai described the initiative as another World Economic Forum that would give practical bent to the full exploitation of Nigeria's waterways.

"The vision is to introduce sustainability efforts, grow new towns and flourish the local people and the economy. It is a win-win situation for Nigeria, foreign investors, shipping companies and financial institutions. Even players and stakeholders in security businesses are expected to come and share with others how they can contribute to the safety of shipping and maritime business. Nigeria's tourism will be given another frontier because the waterways will benefit boat cruise and many private inter-state waterways transportation operators. It is a full-team effort, and we are not afraid to try to give the economy another significant window and show the world what President Goodluck Jonathan has done in this area and all the benefits therein," Ukpai explained.

The reporter gathered that a number of companies and groups, including Glossands, Drillex, Japaul, EAL and Tarzan Maritime Ltd, have signified their intention to be part of the programme.

Besides the conference and exhibition, the event would also feature seminars, meetings, networking cocktail, gala dinner, boat cruise, sponsors appreciation dinner and award night.

The organisers said a website, www.niwa-ice.com was opened for the event, adding that interested sponsors and participants should visit the site.
