wats da one called terracotta datz now advising us to go "READ" our culture. which kinda fool has to read his own culture when you can live it? na wa for some people in nairaland. if it's written down somewhere, it must be fact.
basically what they're saying is: "hey Igbos, this is what i've read about y'all and you better accept it as fact cuz i read it with my big brain. i dont care what you think you know about your own culture; whatever it is that you do think you know was not written in the book that i read and therefore it can't be real or true."
WTF?

I am determined to find at least one Igbo person that has attended an Igbo naming ceremony or has witnessed one in Igboland, this is almost like a research project for me now and I shall report back on this thread. cool

and if if I find at least 5,I will report so too and I may just submit my face for some tribal markings,in defeat grin
tongue
dont waste ur time resaerching any shit. how can sum'one "else" tell u about yourself and you go research it to see if it's true? u shud know urself better. TOH has finally made sense for once when she said
This is like arguing with a special Ed class. In other words, a waste of time
. YOU and DONZMAN are more than likely arguing with a special ed student who keeps deviating from the damn point.

Stimulus, you're right.

@sage
what do you have to say to Joyce Meyer and Paula White? "step down, you may be making a lot of sense but that's not what God wants you to do, sorry. ", ?

this is a very pointless argument like you said. these gender "discussions" are getting real old and tired.
which one wold you rather get
no one would put me in a position where i must pick one. plus u might as well compare the tribal scars to other irrelevant stuff. it wont make a difference. no matter what u compare a wrong thing to, wrong is wrong. so no need asking. besides, the white guy in the photo obviously did that on his with his own consent. parents don't make their kids get that.

the constant bringing up of osu is very silly. if osu is the discriminating of a people because of their origin then it's wrong. whether it's an ancient thing or it's still in existance,  i will still not support it. and even if i am Yoruba, i would still speak against tribal markings.  i don't blindly support things because it's done by people in my own group. so there's definitely no use asking what i think of it (osu).  many people here are defending tribal markings because it's practiced in their culture."Wrong" does not have a nationality. tribal markings can be wrong whether it's practiced by yoruba people, igbo people, or welsh people. you can bring up anything that you feel is wrong about my own culture and we can debate it or discuss it. And if it's obviously wrong, don't expect me to claim it's not just because i am igbo.

@ Ikomi
So, u don't think if a guy is handsome that the ladies in the church might lost concentration?
Well, i think women should get more involve in the world 2day. especially since man are seriously misleading people. all these wars in Africa are being caused by men etc,
i have seen several nigeria girls having fun instead of arguing about igbo hausa & ypruba like we do.
it really does make sense that women should be a pastor of a church. thx!
OMG!!! shocked shocked ARE YOU REALLY A NIGERIAN MAN?!!!! shocked shocked

IT has now become an offence for parents or guardians to put tattoo or inscribe tribal marks in their children or wards in Ekiti State.
Speaker of the House of Assembly, Mr. Friday Aderemi, said Ekiti was the ninth state in the federation to pass the bill, maintaining that the new law would help children in the state to develop in all ramifications.

http://odili.net/news/source/2006/jun/12/15.html

Found an old heart warming article.
Just like I applauded the Igbos for passing a law in the fifties banning ill treatment of anybody designated an Osu.
I applaud the former governor for outlawing this barbaric act of facial scarifications
Someone has to stand up for those defenseless kids and I'm glad he did.
Let those who wish to uphold the "culture",give the stupid eleven eleven marks to themselves
The fact that some people saw it fit to make changes proves that those marks are now useless in this day and age.
No child should walk around looking like they were attacked by a wild animal.
there u have it!!

Are there e -autographs?. . .You can get those! grin
