Military personnel are also subject to civilian courts of law. vetrovialMan: You well so? The only civilian who has authority over even the lowest military rank is president and Commander in chief. Our regular Judiciary can't even conduct a trial for a military personnel. This should give you an idea of how ineffective wikes bluff was. |

You are all over the place. We are talking about a situation and you keep talking in generality. You clearly don't know what you are talking about. We can all see you're clueless, and you know you're clueless, so why do you keep pretending ? QuietMynd: Who doesn't know an officer is an equivalent to a BSc holder. What is the 5 years in NDA for then. And I wasn't talking about that particular lieutenant in that post, am talking in generalities. Especially soldiers of other rank that does the most cruelty in the society. Hold ur military friends accountable. Everyone of them should be professional. It is even sad someone is siding unruly behavior of military men to begin with. And to think it is coming from a civilian is sad. |

The moment I saw the president's daughter crowning herself "iyaloja general of Nigeria", I knew something was wrong. Then seeing her gallivanting and extorting money from traders ... And some people were praising her actions and saying she carries the weight of the presidency and is equivalent to the Nigerian army 😓 Odunayaw: Our political class are bandits. When they can't have their way is when the appeal to the same law they manhandle.
The CDS' confirmation that the Lt was not on illegal duty was enough for Wike to leave him alone and seek better channels. But thuggery is second nature, he proceeded to lampoon the soldier and someone like that moniker is here playing senior advocate |

Not everyone is a civil servant. You said "Constitutional laws reign supreme above military heriachy or minister authority", it makes zero sense. Are you just trying to sound and look smart ? QuietMynd: Everyone one is a civil servant including minister and soldiers also. Constitutional laws reign supreme above military heriachy or minister authority. Without Constitution there won't be military or ministery to begin with. |

Once again, soldiers are not policemen. The concept of jurisdiction doesn't even make sense for soldiers except those of the military police. You are slow to learn. QuietMynd: It seems u have issue with wike Trust me I don't care about him, am not a fan of him either. All I care about is the rule of law. Let everyone knows their limit, where there authority and jurisdiction starts and ends. We can't keep running a country with our anyhowness ways. That's a symptom of banana Republic, that shows to the world we re a third world where anything goes. All this re already evident in our society where soldiers will barge into electricity distribution company and beat their staff up for doing their lawful duty of disconnecting the power of anyone owing them. I don't see anyone supporting the military guys now condem them then. Maybe because none of anyone relative were not among those violated continously for two days then. I hate hypocrisy |

You seem to not understand the concept of "acting on orders". Contrary to you, I've leaved in more civilised countries. Soldiers can be given orders to perform withing the country. The fact that soldiers don't have jurisdiction out of the barracks is greatly misunderstood by you. Indeed soldiers are not policemen, the question of jurisdiction doesn't even make sense in their case, they are not policemen. However the military police are the soldiers for whom jurisdiction makes sense. When a soldier is given a duty to perform inside the country and outside the barracks, don't bring up your "jurisdiction" talk, it makes no sense. To interfer with the mission, you need to adress the chain of command. It is not lost on me that you don't seem to know the difference between a soldier acting without orders and a soldier acting with orders. I don't have time to explain the difference to you. I only hope you are smart enough to do the research. The officer in this case kept repeating that he was acting on orders... This annoys me because I actually like Wike. But I'm also a truth teller. I can't stand people when they try to deform reality. QuietMynd: You should take ur own advise to know military institutions nd civilians institutions re different and military has no jurisdiction in the civilians space nd likewise civilians also except in a situation where state of emergency has been declared. Learn ur constitution, it will save u alot. We re in a democracy for God sake not a military regime where military reign supreme. " Whatever authority the military has start and ends in their barracks whenever they leave their barrack to the civilian space they re to respect and obey the civilian laws and authority." Even former chief of army start Mr taoreed lagbaja alluded to the highlighted when lagos govnor arrested one recalcitrant soldier for passing one way in Lagos few years back. Consult the constitution so that you can know your civil right so has not for it to violated by one illiterate bully in uniform. |

Some people think they are operating democracy while worshipping civil servants instead of asking the civil servants to serve.
See how the guy above is fuming because a lieutenant dared to stand up to a minister. In that commenter's head, the officer should have prostrated for the minister and licked the minister's shoes. That commenter thinks civil servants are like kings and the people should be serving the civil servants, that is what he thinks democracy is about.
Replacing military dictators with civilian dictators: democracy. 😓
Mr man, of you want soldiers to be treated with zero respect then you should first make conscription compulsory for upon reaching 18 years of age. Let everybody go through military training and dangers and duty, then from that point, you can start insulting an officer in the streets if you want.
But while you've never put your life on danger to protect the country and its people how dare you disrespect an officer? Or support someone doing so ? |

Ministers are appointed, governors are voted in. So it is not the same thing. Show me the position of the minister in the military chain of command. If you want to have a military, you should learn how it works. Being a minister doesn't mean you can give orders to soldiers and officers. You need to follow the chain of command. Disrespecting a soldier or an officer is not permitted even for the president. You don't understand the military and you don't understand democracy. In a democracy, ministers and presidents work for the people, they are not above the people, they are under the people, so they are not entitled to "who are you" attacks, nor to calling an officer "a fool". QuietMynd: Nawa o, it is as if we re all born in this country as a form of punishment. If basic rule of law is alien to majority of the populace, don't yall see this country is not even a functioning one to begin with. This is effect of past military regime that has once ruled this country. The arrogance is still in them. I thing we need a serious leader to put everyone in check in this country including uniformed men, politicians and civilians alike. Imagine a lieutenant standing up to a minister/governor of the federal capital. And we see all alot of people suffering from Stockholm syndrome supporting him. A newly commissioned office wey never even pass 5 years of been commissioned. We re done for in this country. If emotion, politics, religion and what not can supercedes constitution/rule of law in this country. Well I can't help, we still need alot to learn concerning this democracy. |

I AM NOT A FOOL Look, I used to live in the barracks, all the blabla you just said is inconsequential. What matters is that in every barrack what the military personnel saw was a corrupt political class disrespecting the military. Each Nigerian soldier, retired or actif is fuming right now. This reminds me of the prelude to the Gideon Orka coup. Soldiers value honour in a way most civilians in Nigeria might not understand. These are people who basically die for their honour and their oath. Fct minister, whom has never been shot at in his life, needs to show more respect for people who put themselves in the line of fire between civilians and terrorists. When was the last time the fct minister or president or any politician for that matter went into the trenches and fought against boko haram ? If I were to be that young officer, I would have ordered the minister's entourage to not get up to 1 metre near me and my men would have stood in fighting position aiming their guns at the Entourage. If the minister insults me, I have my men arrest him. (I'ld lose my job, but he would lose his tooth). This is coming from me, a guy who likes Wike. jteku: What do you mean by disrespect, why do the military get involve in civil matters and who gave the order to stop the FCDA officials, this is what need to be investigated and who is found guilty should resign his position or face the law.....this are the reason that we are still back words..............someone just woke up start typing rubbish on Nairaland "Minister disrespecting an army officer" |

His people are in Poland, the middle eastern land you are talking about belongs to Palestinians. I don't really care about people of that region, but I care about the precedence of a people stealing an other people's ancestral land under false historical claims which are easily debunked by actual historical documents. Most of you just hear the name "Israel" and then you start confusing with your religion instead of seeing reality as it is. This is land grabbing and genocide of the greatest order. This is bad. Cease fire must not mean the same for me as it does for the polish leader of colonial Zionist government of Palestine. The last time I checked, both sides need to cease fire, not just one side. Both sides can go to hell anyways. Who cares HolinessForever: “The ISRAELI Air Force (IAF) conducted at least 18 airstrikes targeting Hezbollah sites and fighters across Lebanon on October 23 and 24, compared to 15 airstrikes between October 1 and 22.
The ISRAELI airstrikes come amid concerns about an imminent ISRAELI escalation in Lebanon.”

Zelensky has already used this statement while talking about other weapons, he needs to pay his propagandists more so that they would come up with new formula instead of recycling old formula. HolinessForever: Zelenskyy:
"As soon as the pressure and the likelihood of the presence of Tomahawks in Ukraine were felt, Putin immediately announced his readiness to resume negotiations.
But with the lifting of the pressure, he abandoned diplomacy. Therefore, it is clear that we must increase our deep-strike capability."

Stop replying that guy. He's not worth to be treated with the respect due to free humans. He should ask himself what the point of his existence is, if he's decided he's not fully human. DeepSight: I am, sorry all of this is a non starter. Perhaps a proper approach to this discussion is nuanced and complex for y/ou?
In the mater of so called IQ tests, or even academic results in particular, it has not even occurred to you for one second that there is a socio-economic and sometimes cultural component at play which is extremely critical. To simplify this: a child brought up in a stable and well to do home, well fed, well catered for and with access to a full compliment of educational materials and advanced equipment (such as computers) is certainly most likely to perform better than a child from a poverty stricken home uncertain of his next meal and with zero educational materials. This alone is sufficient to show the socio-economic component which you have not even averted your mind to, not to speak of the cultural components (e.g: a child from a background which emphasizes discipline, study and competitiveness is more likely to excel at academics than a child from a more laissez-faire background). And yet these two factors I have pointed out (socio-economic and cultural) have nothing to do with actual raw intelligence.
This one little thing I have just pointed out is one of the reasons I say I seriously doubt that yo/u can handle this discussion because if you could, you would at once recognize that the statistics that are put up for performance in both IQ tests and academics do not take cognizance of many factors which when played out on a large demographic level with different social realities of the difference races are bound to lead to different outcomes.
As to point number three, did you really fail to understand that one society can be more productive than another for any number of reasons? Do you deny that something as simple as fertile land can deliver such? Do you deny that weather alone can decide that? Do you deny that flora and fauna alone can decide that? None of these can be denied so it makes absolutely no sense to insist that it is always true that the most intelligent societies are always the most prosperous. It is simply not true. Very often in history the most brutal societies have been the most prosperous by dint of sheer force.
PS: And no, you cannot arbitrarily decide that "productivity is the final arbiter" - Throughout history, necessity has been the mother of invention. Many societies were not productive per se because they simply had no need to be, others were forced by circumstance to be, etc. This again does not speak to which people are more intelligent. Its as simple as saying that a man who lives in a desert will have to learn some sort of irrigation while a man who lives in an oasis will have no such need and not do it. Necessity is at play here - not necessarily intelligence. And this is just one example. Many other factors abound.
At all events, if I am going to attempt to change your views, we must start this discussion properly. From the historical perspective and by assessing the key factors which lead to civilization. For that, I will import posts I made in another thread some years ago. |
