Some of the arguments here are so funny, how many students can babcock accommodate? So what is the problem of most Nigerians, food?

Don't compare us to China or Japan, China has to keep it's currency down so tht everyone can keep importing from them, that is why the quality of their products are not as high as their western counterparts, if their currency starts appreciating people will wonder why they re paying much for goods of lower quality. Meanwhile Japan has to keep its currency lower to the dollar because their electronics and automobiles are not on the same level with European or American vehicles, they only come cheaper because of the lower cost of production. Every technology japan has, US has it too, the only problem is USA can't compete with the japanese because they spend higher in production, if japan currency goes up and those cars become more epensive , they will lose their customers due to high price. Now what does Nigeria have in common with this two? what do we produce besides oil , wht do we produce and export tht makes the cost of production cheap.

You are right about our low level of production. But one thing you are failing to realize is that the low level of production is not due to lack of capacity or technical know how. It's just plain economics. It's because it's cheaper (on the short run) to import such goods than produce it locally. But what happens when those imported goods become very, very expensive due to a weak currency?
Then we will have to start looking for local substitutes. And you will start seeing industries sprouting up, which will in turn create more jobs.

Do you realise tht most of the local vehicle companies only assemble the parts together? , they have to import those assembled parts by paying with dollars and whether we like it or not the increase will still be passed to the final consumer, let's move away from the effects of weak naira on the manufacturing sector, The overall effect of a weak naira on the economy is worse, simply because right now tk a look at the oil price, it dropped due to over supply of oil into the market , that is bad for Nigeria because we receive far less than we used to, now what is worse is that the refineries don't care abt the over supply of oil. They still sell refined oil at an high price ( there are more suppliers of oil but fewer refineries ) so we hv to pay higher to buy back our oil from the refineries and guess wht we pay in dollars again. A weak currency shouldn't be a prerequisite for local manufacturing growth because its a double edged sword.

OP, the question you should ask yourself is that ' is our production capacity as high as the chinese' do we have local products which can serve as substitutes? We don't produce electronics, ceramic tiles, phones, our food production can't meet our demand, even our crude is imported bck in it's refined form because we hv no functioning refineries. so how is the exchange rate a blessing since we hv to pay expensive dollars for all this trades.

I thought the TANIANS were happy about how much gains they made with the election postponement, gloating about stopping APC's campaign and finances, how APC likes have gone down on nairaland, just yesterday I saw an online poll where GMB pulled triple what GEJ got, So pathetic for PDP, I'm sure they are regretting foisting jonathan on the party now. As for Atiku I'm sure he must have given jonathan an advice ( spend all the dollars in this world, you might still find yourself coming third in the election ).

If you dedicate some judges/courts to terrorism cases then they are effectively a special court. There is no real need to label them as such.

What we have to realise foremost is that the human right thing is just an excuse, the saudi's despite their terrible human right weapons are now the worlds largest importer of weapon from the USA, Egypt gets more than a billion dollars in weapons yearly from the USA, the syrian rebels were giiven weapons to fight Assad despite their atrocities, Even the USA operated the Guatanamo detention facility where suspected terrorists were tortured using terrible means. What we can take from this is the US only cares about their interests and they are double faced, they have never sold Nigeria weapons during time of need. During the civil war, the west and it's allies refused to sell Nigeria weapons, we had to turn to russia, in sierra leone, when Nigeria's peace keeping force under Ecomog were fighting the rebels, they refused to sell weapons again, citing this same human rights abuse , now we are faced with the threat of boko haram, the human right excuse comes up again. So if we are to take a look at the scenario playing over and over again, we cn assume the US either doesn't care abt Nigeria or they are scared of a Nigeria which is militarily strong. I will assume the latter is the case, the US doesn't want a strong Nigeria, why? Because a strong Nigeria with its bountiful human resources, mineral resources, economy, population could be a countering power on US influence on Africa. For example OBJ refused to allow the US move their Africom base to Nigeria, Nigeria supported the Black south africans during apartheid era, even providing refuge for some of them, Nigeria refused to pass the Gay rights law, Nigeria sends it's soldiers for peace keeping duties where ever there is trouble in Africa. Now this same Nigeria is the largest economy in africa, wht does the US stand to gain from a strong Nigeria? As at now nothing whatsoever, the US has stopped importing oil from Nigeria, they now produce their own oil, so Nigeria is of no strategic value to them, why not just let them weaken, or allow them break up into three.
And our leaders play into their hands, our funny president voted in favour of a no fly zone in libya, all in a bid to oust gaddafi thereby turning the tide in favour of the rebels,Now libya which was also a very strong anti US country is no more, all we have is the dying embers of a once powerful country, two govts operating, one backed by the international community, another backed by armed rebels. How did our libya error turn out for us? All kind of weapons looted, moving easily from libya into mali, chad, also into Nigeria's porous borders into Boko Haram hands and we claimed they operate sophisticated weapons against the army. All this human right issue is a lie, if we were important they will turn a blind eye to it, but we are not. Thank God for Russia and China, they will sell u weapons all they need is your money, and their weapons are so damn good, if we had a better leader who understood tht you must project strength and charisma before the world will respect you, we would have defeated boko haram since, instead today you learn USA doesn't want to sell weapons,, tomorrow you read Nigeria cancles training with the US and the day after you hear the president again asking for USA help in fighting the insurgents. We will defeat boko haram, but after that we need to look at where our interest really lies, a declining west or a resurging east. Like Abacha said " To hell with the West, I will face the East "... Who stands to gain more from nemstovs death? His death was planned to force the west's hand, this is no longer just about Ukraine, the west had to really take note, nemstovs death was timed perfectly to coincide with russia's testing of UK's air defence. The last european leader who had massive support at home without allowing any opposition started a war tht brough the world to it's knees. The west is now forced back to the table to try to stop putin in russia, nemstovs death is to force nato to be aggressive, to view ukraine as a real european issue.
