PoliticsRe: I Won’t Be Criminalized For Rejecting APC — Gov Bala Mohammed by Giftimoni(op): 5:17pm On Apr 04

“If they don’t stop, we are prepared to declare a war. I assure you, we will not keep quiet any longer. I will not allow anybody to criminalize me because I refuse to join their party.”

Giftimoni:
Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has accused the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of attempting to weaponize state institutions against political opponents who refuse to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during a press conference, the governor alleged that agencies such as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the judiciary are being used to target individuals outside the APC.

According to him, the federal government believes it can intimidate and silence dissenting voices through legal and institutional pressure.

“The APC-led federal government thinks they can use the court and the EFCC to prosecute Nigerians who are not in their party,” Mohammed said.

He warned that such actions, if continued, could provoke strong resistance from those who feel unfairly targeted.

“If they don’t stop, we are prepared to declare a war. I assure you, we will not keep quiet any longer,” he added.

The Bauchi governor firmly dismissed any suggestion of defecting to the ruling party, stressing that his political stance should not be grounds for persecution.

“I will not allow anybody to criminalize me because I refuse to join their party,” he stated.

Mohammed reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out against what he described as abuse of power, insisting that democratic principles must be upheld regardless of political affiliation.

The remarks come amid rising political tensions and growing concerns over the use of federal institutions in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.

Meanwhile, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Friday disclosed how Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State asked him to stop the recent national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Wike disclosed that Mohammed visited him in his house where the governor urged him to put the national convention on hold while all aggrieved members of the party engage in discussions.

The minister disclosed this during his monthly media chat in Abuja.

He also expressed readiness towards ensuring that all aggrieved members of the PDP resolves their differences and become united.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, accusing him of bias and deliberate misinterpretation of a court order in the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, ADC National Chairman, David Mark, said the commission’s actions have eroded public trust and undermined democratic principles.

Mark explained that the controversy stems from a March 12 Court of Appeal judgment, which directed all parties — including INEC — to maintain the status quo pending the resolution of the case at the Federal High Court.

According to him, despite this directive, individuals linked to Nafiu Bala approached INEC for recognition in a way that distorted the meaning of status quo ante bellum. He alleged that the move was backed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as part of a broader effort to weaken opposition parties.

“This is not just about the ADC. It is a direct assault on Nigeria’s democracy and the rights of citizens,” Mark stated.

He further claimed that the APC-led Federal Government has consistently undermined opposition parties, describing the ADC as “the last bastion against full-blown dictatorship.”

Mark expressed shock over INEC’s April 1 decision to withdraw recognition from both his leadership and the faction linked to Bala, describing it as a “false equivalence.”

He insisted that Bala had already resigned from his leadership position and therefore could not be legitimately recognised as a factional leader.

“The commission cannot decide who leads a political party. That power does not belong to INEC,” he said.

Mark also accused INEC of contempt of court, arguing that the commission should have sought judicial clarification if there was any uncertainty regarding the ruling.

“At no time was the ADC without a duly constituted leadership. INEC has invented a status quo that never existed,” he added.

Concluding, Mark said INEC’s actions show clear partisanship, declaring that the electoral body “can no longer be trusted.”

In 2022, when President Tinubu emerged as the presidential candidate of the APC, Governor Bala Mohammed flew down to Port Harcourt to meet me and said we have to support Tinubu, that he can never work with Atiku. It didn't even take four days, the same Bala moved to support the same Atiku.

Even this recent meeting we had at my Abuja residence, Bala said he knows Atiku hates him and that he'll never support him..so that's why he can't go to APC and that we should reconcile in PDP . This same Bala has now moved to Atiku's party. What kind of character is that?

PoliticsEl-Rufai Arrives In Court As Bail Hearing Resumes In Corruption Trial by Giftimoni(op): 10:58am On Apr 01

Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Wednesday appeared before the Federal High Court in Kaduna for the resumed hearing of his bail application in an ongoing corruption trial.

The proceedings follow an adjournment on Tuesday, with his counsel, Ukpong Abang (SAN), confirming that the court shifted the hearing to allow for the filing of additional responses.

“I’m sorry, I can’t talk now, we are in the middle of work. I have to go and file responses. The hearing of the bail application has been adjourned till tomorrow,” Abang told journalists after the earlier session.

El-Rufai arrived at the court premises under tight security, mirroring the heavy presence observed during his previous appearances, including his arraignment last week.

After the session, he was escorted out of the court in a white Hilux vehicle by operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The former governor is standing trial before Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa on a 10-count charge bordering on alleged conversion and possession of public property, as well as money laundering.

El-Rufai had spent over a month in detention before he was granted temporary release on compassionate grounds by the ICPC on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother, Hajiya Ummar El-Rufai, in Cairo, Egypt.

The court had earlier scheduled March 31, 2026, for the hearing of pending applications, including his bail request, which remains a key focus of the ongoing proceedings.

As the case continues, attention remains on the court’s decision regarding his bail application and the broader implications for the high-profile trial.

Hmmmm...The FCT Minister also took aim at politicians who previously benefited from the PDP but left during internal crises, accusing them of lacking leadership qualities.

Giftimoni:

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that politicians who defect from their parties will not be allowed to rely on President Bola Tinubu’s achievements to secure victory in the 2027 general elections.

Wike made this assertion during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention, where he delivered a strongly worded address targeting defectors and political opportunism ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Wike Warns Against Political Opportunism

Speaking to party faithful and delegates, the former Rivers State governor criticized politicians who switch parties for personal gain, insisting that such individuals cannot take credit for the achievements of an administration they were not loyal to.

According to him, the 2027 elections will test credibility and performance, not opportunistic alignment.

“No defector will be allowed to campaign on the achievements of President Tinubu to win election in 2027,” Wike said.

His remarks signal a broader warning to politicians who may be considering strategic defections ahead of the elections.

‘Show Your Report Card’

Wike reiterated that the next general elections would be driven by accountability, emphasizing that voters would demand tangible results from political leaders.

He described the 2027 race as “operation show your report card,” stressing that only those with verifiable achievements would earn the trust of Nigerians.

“If you have nothing to show, nobody will cover you,” he added.

Criticism of Defectors

The FCT Minister also took aim at politicians who previously benefited from the PDP but left during internal crises, accusing them of lacking leadership qualities.

He argued that true leadership requires resilience and commitment, especially during challenging periods.

“These are people who used the platform when it suited them, but ran away when issues arose,” Wike stated.

Implications for 2027 Elections

Wike’s comments highlight growing political tension ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly around party loyalty, performance, and credibility.

His stance suggests that political narratives built around achievements.

Call for Internal Unity

Despite his strong criticism, Wike urged members of the PDP to remain united and focused on rebuilding the party.

He encouraged aggrieved members to return and contribute to efforts aimed at repositioning the PDP as a formidable force in Nigeria’s political landscape.

PoliticsSeyi Law Introducing Tinubu At APC Convention (Video) by Giftimoni(op): 9:24am On Mar 28

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDgGRjygOgM

Popular Nigerian stand-up comedian, Seyi Law, has publicly reaffirmed his strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring that he is “willing to stake everything on him.”

Seyi Law made the statement on Friday while speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) convention held in Abuja, where party stakeholders gathered ahead of key political activities.

Addressing the audience, the comedian said his unwavering loyalty to President Tinubu is rooted in his belief that the administration rescued Nigeria from the brink of economic collapse.

According to him, Nigeria’s financial standing has improved significantly since Tinubu assumed office, particularly in terms of foreign reserves.

“And I said to myself, if I was to introduce Mr President, how would I do it? And I just said I will let people know that this is a man that I am willing to stake everything for,” Seyi Law said.

He added that Nigeria’s national reserve, which he claimed was at “barely $1 billion” before Tinubu took office, has grown substantially.

“Today we celebrate our national reserve that is about $40 billion and our gross reserve that is at about $50.7 billion,” he stated.

The comedian’s comments have further reinforced his political stance, having openly endorsed Tinubu during the 2023 general elections.

Seyi Law has, however, remained a controversial figure in Nigeria’s political discourse, particularly among critics of the current administration. He recently faced backlash on social media after asserting that Nigeria is “currently safer under the Tinubu administration than it was a decade ago.”

His latest remarks at the APC convention are expected to spark renewed debate, especially as discussions around Nigeria’s economic performance and security situation continue to dominate public discourse.

With days to its pivotal March 29–30, 2026 national convention, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is witnessing renewed efforts at reconciliation, even as one faction insists the party remains united despite lingering tensions.

The bloc aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed reports of a split within the party, maintaining that disagreements among stakeholders do not amount to factionalisation.

Speaking to journalists in Abuja after inspecting infrastructure projects, Wike said the PDP remains one indivisible entity.

“We have only one PDP. I don’t know which faction you are referring to. Some persons may be aggrieved, yes, but that does not translate to division,” he stated.

His remarks come amid intensified reconciliation moves by another powerful bloc within the party, believed to be backed by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and other influential leaders.

The Makinde-aligned camp, working through a high-level committee led by former Minister Tanimu Turaki (SAN), confirmed that fresh peace talks commenced earlier this week in Abuja, following months of internal disputes and legal battles.

Turaki, who addressed reporters on Wednesday, said the initiative was in response to a recent advisory by the Court of Appeal urging aggrieved parties to pursue amicable settlement in the interest of the party’s survival and democratic stability.

According to him, the PDP’s Board of Trustees, under the leadership of Senator Adolphus Wabara, set up a reconciliation committee to engage estranged members and chart a path toward unity.

“In obedience to the court’s advisory, we have opened discussions aimed at resolving all outstanding issues and repositioning the party for the forthcoming elections,” Turaki said.

He disclosed that as part of confidence-building measures, the National Working Committee postponed scheduled meetings of key party organs and toned down confrontational rhetoric.

However, he expressed concern that some actors have continued to escalate tensions through “derogatory statements,” warning that such actions could undermine ongoing peace efforts.

Despite this, Turaki struck an optimistic tone, revealing that both sides have now “broken the ice” and are exploring options for a comprehensive settlement.

“We are willing to make sacrifices. We are ready to bend as far as necessary in the overall interest of the party. What is important is that PDP survives and remains competitive,” he said.

He further assured party faithful that the PDP would field candidates for all elective offices, noting that compliance with constitutional and electoral requirements remains a priority.

Turaki also indicated that all pending litigations across various courts would be withdrawn once a consensus is reached.

“As lawyers, we understand that prolonged litigation often deepens divisions. Once we reach agreement, all cases will be withdrawn to give peace a chance,” he added.

The ongoing crisis within the PDP has been marked by competing interests, leadership disputes, and a series of court cases, raising concerns about the party’s readiness for future elections.

Political observers say the outcome of the current reconciliation efforts could determine the PDP’s strength as Nigeria’s leading opposition party, especially as the 2027 electoral cycle gradually comes into focus.

While Wike’s camp continues to downplay the extent of the crisis, the push for dialogue by the Makinde-aligned faction signals a recognition that unresolved differences could have far-reaching consequences.

As the national convention draws closer, attention remains fixed on whether the renewed peace talks will produce a unified front—or merely a temporary truce in a deeply divided party.

PoliticsMoment El-rufai Was Escorted Out Of Courtroom As Bail Hearing Is Adjourned by Giftimoni(op): 4:27pm On Mar 24

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V2z1XGaaG4s

A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna has adjourned the bail hearing of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, to March 31, 2026, following arguments presented by both the prosecution and defense.

The adjournment comes after a closely watched court session on Tuesday, where legal representatives debated whether the former governor should be granted bail amid ongoing corruption allegations.

Defense Pushes for Bail

During the proceedings, counsel to El-Rufai, Ukpon Akpan, urged the court to grant bail, emphasizing that bail is a constitutional right. He argued that allowing the former governor to remain free would enable him to adequately prepare his defense.

The defense maintained that there was no sufficient justification to deny bail, noting that El-Rufai has complied with legal processes and poses no flight risk.

Prosecution Opposes Application

However, the prosecution strongly opposed the bail request, citing the serious nature of the charges against the former governor.

According to prosecutors, granting bail at this stage could potentially interfere with ongoing investigations. They urged the court to consider the weight of the allegations before making a decision.

Details of the Charges

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned El-Rufai over multiple charges linked to his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.

The charges include:

Alleged corruption
Abuse of office
Money laundering
Conversion and possession of public property

The case is filed under suit number FHC/KD/73/2026.

Separate Case Filed at State High Court

In a related development, the ICPC has also filed a separate case against El-Rufai and another individual, Amadu Sule, at the Kaduna State High Court.

The second case, marked KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, includes allegations of:

Fraud
Abuse of office
Intent to commit fraud
Conferring undue advantage

The Commission confirmed that both cases were instituted on March 18, 2026, as part of its broader anti-corruption efforts.

Heightened Security and Restricted Access

Security was significantly tightened across Kaduna ahead of the arraignment. Armed personnel were deployed around the court premises to maintain order as supporters and observers gathered.

Notably, journalists were barred from entering the courtroom, raising concerns about transparency in a case of high public interest.

What Happens Next?

The court is expected to rule on El-Rufai’s bail application on March 31, 2026, a date that is now drawing national attention.

Legal analysts say the outcome could have wider implications for Nigeria’s anti-corruption drive and judicial independence, especially in cases involving high-profile political figures.

PoliticsI Can Rule Nigeria From Kaduna If Elected President - Peter Obi (video) by Giftimoni(op): 5:19pm On Mar 23

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRh7F_2G8xw

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has stated that he could effectively govern Nigeria from Kaduna if elected president, emphasizing accessibility, leadership commitment, and national unity.

Obi made the remark on Sunday during a meeting with stakeholders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna, as part of his ongoing nationwide political consultations.

“Abuja to Kaduna is less than two hours; so nothing stops a president who’s in Abuja to drive down to Kaduna for a meeting and stay there for a day or two and go back to Abuja. In fact, I can actually serve Nigeria from Kaduna, without a single problem,” he said.

Obi Engages ADC Stakeholders in Kaduna

The former Labour Party flagbearer, who joined the ADC coalition in 2025, said his visit to Kaduna allowed him to interact with key political actors and assess the political climate in the state.

According to Obi, he met with party leaders including Dr. Ahmed Tijjani, a gubernatorial aspirant, and Senator Lawal Adamu, who represents Kaduna Central.

He noted that the engagement reinforced his belief in Nigeria’s potential for transformation through purposeful and people-oriented leadership.

“What I observed in them was not just political ambition but a sincere desire to serve the people and contribute to the rebuilding of our country,” Obi said.

Kaduna’s Strategic Importance to Nigeria

Obi described Kaduna as a historically significant state that once symbolized unity and economic strength in Nigeria.

He highlighted the state’s past as a hub for industry, agriculture, and commerce, noting that it still holds strong potential for national development.

“Kaduna remains a very strategic state in Nigeria. It was once a symbol of our unity and coexistence… and it still holds that potential,” he stated.

Call for Unity and National Rebuilding

The former Anambra State governor stressed the need to rebuild trust and foster unity among Nigerians, warning that division remains a major barrier to progress.

“A divided society cannot progress, but a united, just, and inclusive one will always find a path to peace and development,” he said.

Political Consultations Extend to Kano

As part of his broader consultations, Obi also visited Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso in Kano, where he met with members of the Kwankwasiyya movement to further strengthen political alliances ahead of future elections.

CelebritiesIsaac Fayose Criticizes Diaspora Nigerians For Praising Tinubu In UK Visit by Giftimoni(op): 3:18pm On Mar 18

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STFuFgAzRV8

Isaac Fayose has sharply criticized Nigerians living abroad for publicly supporting President Bola Tinubu during his official visit to the United Kingdom.

Fayose accused diaspora Nigerians of being “among the most selfish people in the world,” questioning why they celebrated the president while continuing to live outside the country.

“You left Nigeria because of hardship, and now, while abroad, you’re singing ‘on your mandate we shaa stand’ for President Tinubu. Why not come back to Nigeria to stand full-time on the mandate?” Fayose said, referring to the enthusiastic reception given to Tinubu by some Nigerians in the UK.

The comments come amid debates over the role of Nigerians in the diaspora in national politics, especially during high-profile international visits. Supporters of the diaspora argue that they continue to contribute to Nigeria’s development from abroad, through remittances and advocacy, while critics like Fayose see their public displays of support as disconnected from the realities of life in Nigeria.

President Tinubu, who was welcomed by a mix of officials, diplomats, and citizens in London, acknowledged the presence of Nigerians in the diaspora.

President Bola Tinubu on Monday administered the oath of office to Taiwo Oyedele, the newly appointed Minister of State for Finance, at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, charging him with the execution of Nigeria’s revamped tax policies.

Oyedele, a 50-year-old tax expert and former chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, pledged to ensure that Nigeria’s tax reforms move from policy formulation to effective implementation, emphasizing that “reforms are only as good as the paper on which they are written.”

Speaking to State House correspondents after the ceremony, Oyedele outlined his immediate priorities, which include revenue mobilisation, spending efficiency, debt management, and fiscal sustainability. “What is really important is diligent execution. We are committed to generating sufficient revenue to meet the increasing public demands on the treasury while optimising spending efficiency,” he said.

President Tinubu commended Oyedele for overhauling the country’s tax framework, which he described as “obsolete, archaic, and fundamentally against every progressive thinker.” He lauded Oyedele as “a very dedicated and highly determined individual” while acknowledging the challenges of the role, noting that Nigeria currently enjoys economic stability, but not exponential growth.

Oyedele’s reforms, which came into effect on January 1, 2026, have consolidated over 60 taxes into fewer than 10 statutes. Key measures include zero income tax for Nigerians earning N800,000 or less annually and exemptions for small businesses with turnovers below N100 million.

The new minister also highlighted the need for proactive fiscal strategies, stating, “How do we position Nigeria to best manage challenges and headwinds while optimising opportunities both within Nigeria and globally?” He expressed confidence that, with his team at the Ministry of Finance, the objectives of the reforms are achievable.

The President also thanked Oyedele’s wife for supporting him through long working hours and warned that the role would require additional commitment.

PoliticsDrama In Senate As Oshiomhole, Akpabio Tackle Abaribe Over Defection To ADC by Giftimoni(op): 3:48pm On Mar 13

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iFTOH0dARHQ
Drama erupted in the Nigerian Senate after nine senators defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), triggering a heated constitutional debate over whether Enyinnaya Abaribe risks losing his seat.

During plenary presided over by Godswill Akpabio, questions were raised about the legality of Abaribe’s defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance after the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin cited Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution.

The controversy centers on whether a lawmaker can defect from the party that sponsored their election without evidence of a party crisis or division.

While other senators who moved to the African Democratic Congress cited internal conflicts within their parties such as the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party, Abaribe argued that he had already been expelled from APGA in 2025.

However, Senate Leader Michael Opeyemi Bamidele countered that the claim of expulsion itself could trigger another constitutional provision requiring him to vacate his seat.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has now given Abaribe one week to provide a convincing explanation or withdraw his defection letter.

Oluremi Tinubu has raised concerns over what she described as the increasing trend of revealing fashion among young Nigerian women, stressing that modesty remains an important value in Nigerian culture.

Speaking during a public engagement, the First Lady criticized outfits such as backless, plunge, and overly revealing dresses, stating that dressing should reflect decency and cultural values.

According to her, beauty should not come at the expense of modesty.

“unclothedness is not acceptable in our culture. Beauty should be accompanied by decency,” she said.

Mrs. Tinubu also called on community leaders, parents, and mentors to guide young people by promoting good behavior, leadership, and responsible dressing.

She encouraged Nigerians who have the means to support young people through mentorship and scholarships, noting that proper guidance could help shape the next generation.

“Help them even if it’s to give a scholarship, teach them leadership, teach them how to be of good behaviour. Teach them how to dress well,” she added.

The First Lady further advised young people to embrace modesty, saying revealing clothing should not be mistaken for beauty.

In addition, she urged Nigerians to use the ongoing periods of Ramadan and Lent for spiritual reflection and prayers for national unity and prosperity.
