However, these nominations must be confirmed by the Senate to take effect. I believe that the Senate, led by Senator Akpabio, will do justice to the list of nominees. While Reno Omokri is qualified, his history of abusing the President on some occasions may count against him.'

Professor Ishaq Akintola, Founder and Executive Director of MURIC, said this while reacting to Dachomo’s recent claim that there is Christian genocide in Nigeria because President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima are Muslims. Dachomo had said in an interview, “Shettima is a Muslim, the president is a Muslim. Is that not complete genocide to Christians in the political world? The way forward is to remove Shettima and I stand on it.”

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has assured that education will receive the largest allocation in the 2026 state budget, declaring it a top priority of his administration. Governor Fubara made the pledge on Monday in Port Harcourt while declaring open the 123rd and 124th combined quarterly meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers. He acknowledged the deplorable condition of many public schools across the state but noted that the decay was inherited and did not start with his administration. According to him, the deterioration of educational infrastructure had been a major talking point during the 2023 election campaigns, often used by his opponents to criticise the previous and current state of governance. The governor said his administration is taking a strategic, reform-driven approach guided by his public administration background to reverse the decline in the education sector. On healthcare, Governor Fubara cited the ongoing upgrade of zonal hospitals and improved welfare packages for healthcare workers as signs of better service delivery in the health sector. Speaking on employment, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to creating jobs but said recruitments, including the anticipated 10,000 job openings, will be based strictly on the needs of the state and not influenced by politics. The meeting, which served as the third and fourth combined session of the Council this year—also the fourth since he assumed office—provided an avenue for the governor to commend traditional rulers for their role in resolving the political impasse that once threatened stability in the state. He credited their interventions with maintaining peace across communities and promoting a calm atmosphere. https://voicenews.com.ng/fubara-defends-education-record-promises-biggest-sectoral-funding-in-2026-budget/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wvv8TRXOIyE Martins Amaewhule, the Speaker of the 10th Assembly of the Rivers State House of Assembly, addressed the financial state of the government accounts and the urgent need to tackle the challenges facing public services in Rivers State, particularly in education and infrastructure. “As at the time Administrator Ibas left, he kept over ₦600 billion in Rivers State’s account”, highlighting that despite the substantial funds left behind, critical sectors such as education continue to suffer neglect. The Speaker expressed concern that these resources had not translated into tangible improvements for schools, roads, and other essential services. Amaewhule noted that public schools, especially primary and secondary institutions in urban and rural areas, remain in deplorable conditions. He stressed that children are still forced to learn in classrooms without roofs, chairs, doors, or functional facilities, while some teachers teach multiple classes simultaneously due to severe staffing shortages.
