https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Osn5hogqHuc Maxwell Opara, human rights lawyer for Nnamdi Kanu, has strongly denounced the life imprisonment sentence handed to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, calling it the “highest injustice in the entire world.” Speaking Opara declared that Kanu, who was convicted on all seven counts of terrorism by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja, is not a terrorist but a political prisoner. He urged Nigerians of conscience to rally behind efforts to overturn the ruling on appeal. “The people of the Southeast know that Nnamdi Kanu is not a criminal, he’s not a terrorist,” Opara said. “As of yesterday, when the judgment was given, delegates in the United States raised this issue — highlighting how unjustly he’s been treated in Nigeria.” Opara added that some of the most powerful figures abroad are watching closely, and appealed to the Court of Appeal to set aside the verdict. He lamented that Kanu was attacked in his own home, with the government allegedly killing dozens of people in the process. “He was in his house enjoying himself… the Federal Government went to his house unprovoked and killed 38 persons,” Opara claimed. He portrayed the trial as part of a broader persecution of the Igbo people. “This is a war against Igbos. The Igbos are on trial,” he told journalists in earlier remarks. Opara also criticized what he described as selective enforcement of court orders. He said IPOB’s supporters never saw a legitimate court mandate banning protests for Kanu’s release, calling the government’s refusal to honor favorable judgments a double standard. https://youtube.com/live/Ce6c--OLek4?feature=share After several years of standing trial on terrorism allegations, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will know his fate today as the court delivers its judgment on the case. Kanu’s trial has been one of Nigeria’s most talked about legal battles in recent years. He was first arrested in 2015 and charged with treasonable felony and terrorism, but the case has since taken numerous turns. In 2017, Kanu fled the country while out on bail, following a military operation at his residence during the time of “Operation Python Dance” In the South-East. In June 2021, he was arrested in Kenya under contentious circumstances and brought back to Nigeria, a move his legal team and IPOB describe as an “extraordinary rendition.” Upon his return, the charges were expanded to 15 counts, including terrorism and incitement to violence. Kanu’s defense has repeatedly challenged the trial’s legitimacy. They argue that fundamental legal and procedural errors, including possible violations of international extradition law and jurisdictional rules, undermine the prosecution’s case.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYnCMhoy4jQ American rap superstar Onika Tanya Maraj-Petty, popularly known as Nicki Minaj, has lent her voice to the growing international call to end the violence perpetrated by insurgents and bandits in northern Nigeria. While delivering a keynote address at a United States Mission to the United Nations conference on “Combating Religious Violence and the Killing of Christians in Nigeria,” the Grammy-winning artist demanded that no group should ever be persecuted because of their faith. Amid calls for urgent global action to address Nigeria’s deepening insecurity crisis, she clarified that her intention is to unite humanity and not to take sides. “I want to make it very clear, once again, that this isn’t about taking sides. This is about standing up in the face of injustice. It’s about what I’ve always stood for,” she said. The rapper thanked “President Trump for prioritizing this issue and for his leadership on the global stage in calling for urgent action to defend Christians in Nigeria, to combat extremism, and to bring a stop to violence against those who simply want to exercise their natural right to freedom of religion or belief.”

https://youtube.com/live/_gRu15IR2Cw?feature=share Nigeria continues her bid to reach for the 2026 World Cup as they face Gabon in a qualifying play-off. After being pipped to top spot in their qualifying group by South Africa, the Super Eagles have entered the play-offs knowing victory today will book a meeting with either DR Congo or Cameroon. Should Nigeria win that fixture then they would secure a place in a six-team inter-confederation play-off to be held in Mexico in March, with one qualification spot on the line. First up for Nigeria is a meeting with Gabon on neutral ground in Morocco. This camp has been beset by controversy after players and staff boycotted training ahead of this all-or-nothing match over a pay dispute, which has since been settled.
