“Go and face your problem. You came to my state, I said, ‘Be careful, leave my state alone.’ You want to impose a party leader in my state. Today, he doesn’t have a party to bring his successor,” he stated. Giftimoni: |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7XlFizvWlCY he Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has fired back at Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, over comments where the governor blamed the minister for the political troubles in his state. Wike, addressing supporters during a “thank you” visit to Abua-Odual Local Government in Rivers state, dismissed the allegations as an attempt by Bala to shift blame for his own political failures. “I watched what the Bauchi governor is saying, that all the problems he’s having, that I’m the one because I said I would put fire in his state. So if I have such power, why are you fighting? If I have such power to put fire, why are you fighting?” Wike said. The former Rivers State governor insisted that the Bauchi governor’s travails had nothing to do with him, arguing that Bala was battling the consequences of his own actions within the PDP in Bauchi. “Go and face your problem. You came to my state, I said, ‘Be careful, leave my state alone.’ You want to impose a party leader in my state. Today, he doesn’t have a party to bring his successor,” he stated.

The United States has conducted intelligence-gathering flights over large parts of Nigeria since late November, signalling intensified security cooperation between Washington and Abuja, according to flight tracking data and US officials cited by Reuters. The report, published Monday, said the specific objectives of the surveillance missions could not be independently verified. However, the flights followed remarks by US President Donald Trump in November, in which he threatened possible military intervention in Nigeria over what he described as the government’s failure to stop violence against Christian communities. The surveillance activity also comes months after a US pilot working for a missionary organisation was kidnapped in neighbouring Niger. Flight tracking data for December showed that the contractor-operated aircraft routinely departed from Ghana, flew over Nigerian airspace, and returned to Accra. The operator was identified as Tenax Aerospace, a Mississippi-based company that provides special-mission aircraft and works closely with the US military. The company did not respond to requests for comment. Liam Karr, Africa team lead at the Critical Threats Project of the American Enterprise Institute, who analysed the data, said the operation appeared to be run out of Accra, which he described as “a known hub for the US military’s logistics network in Africa.” Karr said the flights indicated that Washington was rebuilding its intelligence capability in the region following Niger’s decision last year to expel US troops from a major desert air base and deepen security ties with Russia. “In recent weeks, we’ve seen a resumption of intelligence and surveillance flights in Nigeria,” Karr told Reuters. A former US official said the aircraft was among several assets relocated to Ghana by the Trump administration in November. The official said the missions included efforts to track the kidnapped US pilot and gather intelligence on militant groups operating in Nigeria, including Boko Haram and its splinter faction, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP). A serving US official confirmed the flights over Nigeria but declined to provide further details, citing diplomatic sensitivity. Another administration official said Washington was working with Nigeria to address “religious violence, anti-Christian attacks, and the destabilising spread of terrorism.” All officials spoke on condition of anonymity. In a statement, the Pentagon said the US had held “productive meetings” with Nigerian authorities following Trump’s comments, but declined to comment on intelligence activities. Nigeria’s military spokesperson and Ghana’s deputy defence minister did not respond to requests for comment. Nigerian authorities have repeatedly maintained that armed groups target both Muslims and Christians, arguing that US claims of Christian persecution oversimplify the country’s complex security challenges and ignore efforts to protect religious freedom. A Nigerian security source told Reuters that during a November 20 meeting between National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, Washington agreed to deploy air assets to support intelligence gathering. https://voicenews.com.ng/us-conducts-surveillance-flights-over-nigeria-after-trump-threats-report/

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has admitted that Nigeria’s senior national team owes Nigerians an apology for failing to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) as a crucial opportunity to make amends. Osimhen said the disappointment of missing out on the World Cup remains fresh within the squad, noting that the players are fully aware of the pain felt by fans at home and in the diaspora. “We want to use this opportunity to say we are sorry for not getting the World Cup ticket,” Osimhen said in an interview with Pooja on Sunday. “We know the disappointment on the faces of many Nigerian fans. Life has happened, so we have to keep it moving, and this AFCON is an opportunity for us to do well.” Nigeria’s failure to secure qualification for the 2026 World Cup has intensified scrutiny on the Super Eagles and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), dealing a major blow to a nation long regarded as a powerhouse of African football. Despite the pressure and high expectations, Osimhen revealed that the mood within the camp remains positive, with players drawing confidence from the quality in the squad and the technical crew. “The expectation is really high, not just within the camp but also from Super Eagles fans all over the world,” he said. “But there is no pressure among my teammates, myself, or the coach because we know the kind of quality he possesses.” The Napoli forward stressed that apologies alone would not be enough, insisting that the team must back its words with strong performances and results on the pitch. “It’s not going to be easy. We have to fight for every game and every ball. We have to try to win every game and see if we can get to the final and win it,” Osimhen said. The Super Eagles will be hoping a strong AFCON showing can help restore confidence and rekindle national pride following the World Cup setback. https://voicenews.com.ng/afcon-osimhen-says-super-eagles-owe-nigerians-apology-after-world-cup-failure/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EFO03H8TU74 Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the opposition’s presence in the Nigerian Senate has drastically reduced since the inauguration of the 10th Assembly, leaving only a few senators outside the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Akpabio, the opposition initially had close to 50 senators but has now dwindled to about four or five members. He added that even the remaining opposition lawmakers have privately indicated their willingness to defect, asking him to facilitate their move to the APC. The remarks underscore the ongoing wave of defections to the ruling party, which entered the 10th Assembly with about 59 seats in 2023 and has since expanded its majority through cross-carpeting by lawmakers from opposition parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Labour Party.

According to him, “There will be no need for Biafra again,” Umahi said. “In the past administration, our people felt very much marginalised and that was the reason some people were agitating for Biafra. But I can say today that we are well integrated into the mainstream of the nation, Nigeria.” Giftimoni: |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUW8HDcKaoA Minister of Works, and former governor of Ebonyi State, David Umahi, has dismissed calls for a separate Biafran State, saying it is no longer warranted, due to what he described as the unprecedented integration of the Igbo into Nigeria’s national development agenda under President Bola Tinubu. He pointed out that sentiments of marginalisation, which had fuelled separatist movements, have significantly eased due to substantial federal investments in roads and other critical infrastructure across the southeast. According to him, “There will be no need for Biafra again,” Umahi said. “In the past administration, our people felt very much marginalised and that was the reason some people were agitating for Biafra. But I can say today that we are well integrated into the mainstream of the nation, Nigeria.” He expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, describing the South-East as “comfortable” and “very happy” with the current administration. “We are comfortable with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. We are very happy with the integration,” he said. The minister presented a list of ongoing and completed federal projects in the South-East, emphasising that many of them had stagnated for over a decade before the Tinubu administration intervened.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7j_a2wIH8cQ Lofty promises allegedly by the Presidency and the national headquarters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are some of the reasons why legislators, high ranking elective office holders and chieftains of other political parties are defecting to the ruling party. In most of the instances, the defectors cite internal party wrangling or performance of the ruling government as reasons for dumping their political parties, under whose backs they rose to power. Though political defections are not new in Nigeria’s democratic landscape, the rate and scale at which they have swept through the ranks of the opposition in recent months—less than two years into President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration—have triggered growing concerns.
