Pastors whose churches are NOT licensed need to inform their congregation that marriages performed in their churches are not legal but only ceremonial.

It means that your marriage is legal.

You do not need a registry license because your church is a church that is licensed to perform marriages (by law) and is therefore recognized by the country.

plaetton: Although our laws recognize tradional marraige,the court wedding supersedes it in legel matters. The church wedding is mostly ceremonial and does not carry much legal weight outside the country except if it is accompanied by wedding certificate from a court or local governtment registry.

So in essence all she had was a ceremonial wedding.

Rocktation: Yeah, the FRN marriage certificate is the only recognised kind at the embassy. And this is given by only very recognised big churches like the Catholic church, Anglican and maybe the headquarters of some pentecostal churches. This is how it works, the marriage registry gives these churches the right to give out these certificates, but not before a certain kind of permit is collected at the registry by intending couples. That way, they keep records of the number/whatever of people getting married. There's no way you can get that from just any road-side church. I suggest that your friend and her husband (or not?) should go back to the headquarter and demand for it or consider re-marriage at someplace more worthy.

The Pastor never asked the couple for their permit, he just married them with no license or anything.

No! You don't get a certificate after you do the traditional wedding. I'm being told you get one after you do the court wedding but the traditional wedding is recognized by the customary laws of Nigeria

My dear friend went to Nigeria to marry a wonderful man. She was given a marriage certificate by the local Pentecostal church where her husband attends.

They did not do a traditional wedding nor did they do a registry/court wedding.

When she filed for him to come to America, The US Embassy said she is not recognized as being married. The Nigerian laws also do not recognize this union.

She is being told that the marriage certificate she was given by the church is a personal one and not an FRN Marriage license.

Is this true? If she is not married? Then what is she? What did the Pastor perform?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hey Jerryben12, i've been having the same problems too. I thought i was the only one experiencing this. Everytime i tried to call my husband it says, "the mobile phone you are calling is currently unavailable", and when i do finally get through i can't hear a word he's saying and the phone keeps cutting off. I called their customer service and all they keep saying is they're having problems that will be recitified shortly. I paid for the service for 1 year and i've gone back to ordering calling cards.The service did work for 3 months to their credit but that was it.

He was able to call me but the calls dropped every so couple of minutes. It becomes a pain cos you have to keep dialing back. Sometimes when you are trying to call his number it will say the number is unavailable which is not true cos the phone is actually ready to receive calls. I know this cos we'll be chatting online and he'll say i should call the number so i can hear the ring tone and i'll call and it will say the phone number is unavailable right now please try again later. If it was $30/month for two way calling i would have stayed but it's $50/month for a two way. For that price i'd expect better service. I'm just going to order Magicjack for him, it's cheaper and more reliable.

I will not delete it because at the time i asked the question i had not become a My Nigeria Mobile user. I am now and i know that it is not a scam and i have said so throughout this post. People will see for themselves whether it is a scam or not. Trust me, my post here will not be remembered once My Nigeria Mobile is well known.It's called freedom of speech.The Company's profile will speak for itself.

I called customer care and it's working now. My husband can now call me on my magicjack. I can finally do away with my land line. I feel so guilty cos so many people are trashing the company and i've had nothing but good service with them. So weird!
