Sources in his Community, Iye-Ekiti revealed that the victim was freed unharmed after the necessary demands by the kidnappers were met..

Olabode was kidnapped by unknown gunmen, on Sunday evening, along Isan-Iludun road and a councilor who was in his entourage was shot dead by men of the underworld.

Report says, Olabode will be receives formally by governor Kayode Fayemi on Friday where he Olabode will speak to the press.

Uber has lost its licence to operate private hire vehicles in London.
Transport for London announced the decision not to renew the global ride-hailing firm’s licence at the end of a two-month probationary extension granted in September.

Uber was told it needed to address issues with checks on drivers, insurance and safety, but has apparently failed to satisfy the capital’s transport authorities. The decision is unlikely to see Uber cars disappear from London, as the firm is expected to appeal, and can continue to operate pending the outcome.

When TfL first rejected Uber’s licence renewal, in September 2017, the firm eventually persuaded judges to award it a 15-month licence to continue.

TfL’s director of licensing, regulation and charging Helen Chapman said: ‘As the regulator of private hire services in London we are required to make a decision today on whether Uber is fit and proper to hold a licence.

‘Safety is our absolute top priority. While we recognise Uber has made improvements, it is unacceptable that Uber has allowed passengers to get into minicabs with drivers who are potentially unlicensed and uninsured.

‘It is clearly concerning that these issues arose, but it is also concerning that we cannot be confident that similar issues won’t happen again in future.’

Uber says a range of new safety features have been introduced to its app in the past two years. Earlier this month, it launched a system which automatically checks on the well-being of drivers and passengers when a journey is interrupted by a long stop.

It also unveiled a discrimination reporting button on its app, and collaborated with the AA to produce a safety video to educate drivers on topics such as reading the road, speed, space management and how to drop off and pick up passengers safely.

There are around 45,000 Uber drivers in London.

Islamila Mustapha aka Mompha, has pleaded not guilty to the N33billion money laundering and Internet crime charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mompha was arraigned before Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court on a 14-count charge this morning November 25th.

Following his ”Not guilty” plead, the presiding judge ordered that he be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till Friday November 29th for hearing of his bail application and commencement of trial.

Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, the leader of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shi’ites, has decried the poor state of the Hospital in India he was taken to and has requested to return to Nigeria.

In an audio making the rounds on social media, El-Zakzaky said he fears for his life and that of his wife as the medical doctors his personal doctor in Nigeria referred them to in India, is not the one he and his wife are currently seeing.

Accoridng to him, the Nigerian Embassy in India took him to a totally different hospital which according to him, is worse than the Kirikiri prison.

Speaking in Hausa, El-Zakzaky said

“The hospital officials received us well they told us that they parked two ambulance vehicles, deceiving the crowd while taking us out through another way, saying that it was for our own safety. On getting to the hospital, we are placed under a tighter security situation worse than what we have been witnessed in Nigeria. We are currently more confined than when we were in Nigeria, worse than prison setting.



“Contrary to what was agreed before our arrival, that our own personal doctors would supervise this treatment. Now they’ve changed the arrangement. So, we objected receiving treatment from strange doctors without the supervision of our own trusted physicians.

Godwilling, we will be going back to Nigeria so that we will be able to travel to another place since we have that approval. Since we can’t trust India any longer, there are some other countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and Turkey who have offered to admit us. We will go back home and decide which one to go for,’’ he said.

A 10-year-old girl, Masenengen Targba, who was raped at an internally displaced persons camp in Benue State, has given birth to a baby girl.

According to a Facebook post by a blogger, Chigozie Effe, Targba was delivered of a baby girl via caesarean section.

Effe had solicited help from well-meaning Nigerians to help with the delivery, which he said would cost more than the girl could afford.

He said, “Targba was dumped in General Hospital, Markurdi by an unknown person in the early hours of today, August 4, 2019

“After hours of plea by a good Samaritan and humanitarian named Mr Ukan, as well as other well-meaning individuals, Dr Ijoko and Dr Yima of the Foundation Memorial Hospital, Makurdi, have succeeded in carrying out an operation on little Masenengen as she (was) delivered (of) a baby girl.”

Targba was said to have given birth in the early hours of August 5, 2019 to the baby, which weighed 2.5kg.

Effe added that the little girl needed support to take care of the new baby.

“At the moment she needs baby bath, diapers, wiper, Comfit pad, mosquito net, Detergent, pegs, Dryer, latex gloves, cotton wool, baby food, flask beverages among others,” he said.

Telecom major Bharti Airtel on Friday that it expects to shut down its entire 3G network across the country by March 2020, the process for which has already started with Kolkata service area.

The company said it is keeping razor sharp focus on driving greater realisation and Average Revenue Per User but emphasised that tariffs need to move up in long term for industry viability, Economic Times of India reported.

The process of switching off the 3G network has already started with Kolkata in the recent-concluded June quarter. By September, the shut down will be affected in 6-7 more circles and between December and March the entire 3G network would be shut down, Gopal Vittal, CEO (India and South Asia), Bharti Airtel, said during the company’s post earnings call.

“Yes, we do see an upgrade when someone moves from 2G to 4G…On spectrum, probably by April 2020, we will really have only 2G and 4G. So all our spectrum will sit on 4G other than the administered spectrum which is on 2G, plus a small slug of spectrum that we require to run our 2G networks…everything else will be sitting on 4G band,” Vittal said.

The company has added 8.4 million 4G customers and has 120 million data customers of which about 95 million are on 4G. Data usage by Bharti’s subscribers has now reached over 11 GB/month.

Airtel had said Thursday that in line with its focus on network experience, it has re-farmed spectrum from 3G networks to 4G across both the 900 as well as 2100 bands and begun the process of shutting down 3G networks in India. This has enabled the company to deliver improved indoor coverage as well as enhance capacities, it had said.

The company has emphasised that tariffs need to move up in the long-term for industry viability.

Badal Bagri, Chief Financial Officer of the company, said that the broader industry which has consolidated to three large players continues to see “some semblance of stability”.

“While we have witnessed revenue growth despite any outright tariff increase, we continue to believe that prices needs to move up in the long term to ensure industry viability,” Bagri said.

Airtel said it does not expect prices to move and in fact is prepared for it not to move up despite remaining at “unsustainable” level.

To another query on asset monetisation plans for its fibre infrastructure, the company said it continues to evaluate opportunities that come up.

“We had moved all our fibre assets to 100 per cent subsidiary and we have all approvals in place right now…that is going to be effected in this current quarter. On monetisation, we will continue to evaluate opportunities and at right time we may choose to see what should be the potential structure,” Bagri said.

Bharti Airtel on Thursday posted a staggering Rs 2,866 crore loss for the June quarter, its first consolidated loss in 14 years, as the telco ceded ground to rival Reliance Jio and took a hit from exceptional items such as charges towards accelerated depreciation of 3G network gear.


Airtel had logged a net profit of Rs 97 crore in the June quarter of the previous fiscal. The revenue of the Sunil Mittal-led company rose 4.7 per cent to Rs 20,738 crore during the first quarter ended June 2019.

In its latest report on Bharti Airtel’s Q1 results, Jefferies said that price hikes in India’s mobile business is unlikely in fiscal 2020 and may happen only after Jio becomes the dominant player.

“We believe that price hikes in India’s mobile business are unlikely in FY20 and will happen only after Jio becomes the dominant player with 40 per cent plus market share, which we expect in FY21,” Jefferies said in its note.

A pro-democracy and civil rights advocacy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, has said the police lack the powers to stop peaceful protests in a democracy.

It described the statement by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu that those planning nationwide street protests termed “Revolution” will be charged for treasonable felony, as a product of “crass hypocrisy.”

National Coordinator of HURIWA, Emmanuel Onwubiko, who spoke on behalf of the group, said this in a telephone interview with our correspondent, in Abuja, on Sunday.

He said it was obvious that the police boss was yet to come to terms with the reality that Nigeria was now a democracy and that peaceful protest by citizens was an integral part of the democratic culture.

HURIWA accused the IGP of being “power drunk” and also behaving as if the country was still under the “Abacha type” military tyranny.



Onwubiko said, “This group has therefore told the police chief that civil protests can never be misconstrued as an attempt at change of government since there are a plethora of Constitutional provisions that recognise the people as the owners of the sovereignty of Nigeria, who donate to political office holders the authority and legitimacy through a democratic process and that the people have the inalienable right to also demand that good governance be institutionalised and to demand the resignation of a bad government.

“Demanding the resignation of a government that has no political will to stop the killings by armed Fulani herdsmen only because the President shares ethno- religious affiliations with the alleged killers; can never be termed as an attempt to unseat the government.

“Civil protests are essential elements of civil rule. Without the right to public protests then there is no constitutional democracy.”

The Rights group said neither the police boss nor officers or men acting on his behalf had the constitutional backing to infringe on the rights of citizens to express themselves in a civil and peaceful manner through demonstrations.

According to him, only a court of competent jurisdiction was empowered by the constitution to commit a citizen to imprisonment on lawful charges brought before it through a competent process over a crime for which such a person would have been afforded the right to legal representation and fair hearing in compliance with section 36(5) of the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaking on the arrest and detention of Omoyele Soweore by the Department of State Services, Onwubiko said, the planned protests of the coalition coordinated by the now incarcerated online publisher; political activist and civil rights campaigner, Mr. Omowore Sowore, does not in any way amount to any attempt at regime change.

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have arrested pro-democracy activist and the convener of #RevolutionNow Protests, OMOYELE SOWORE

Sowore at around 1:25 am on Saturday, posted a distress tweet notifying the public that DSS invaded his home. He tweeted;

According to an eye witness, after DSS invaded his home, his phone was forcefully taken away from him. This may be evident by the tweet that followed his distress tweet. The tweet seemed incomplete, it read

The arrest is suspected to be in line with his protests, #RevolutionNow, a series of planned protests against bad governance in Nigeria scheduled for August 5, 2019.

Despite the proscription by the federal government, top members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) on Friday supported the decision of daughter of their detained leader, Ibraheem El-Zakzaky that protest will continue until her parents are released.

Suhaila Zakzaky in videos shared on her Facebook page last Thursday challenged the ban and declared the protest will continue until her father is freed from detention.

A declaration by a top member of the IMN, Abdullahi Musa, for Academic Forum, Sisters’ Forum and Abul-Fadl, announced other IMN members were not notified about the ban on protests.

Musa said:

“On the 31st day of July, 2019 a press statement titled “We Are Temporarily Suspending Our Street Protests” and signed by Malam Ibrahim Musa, President of the Media Forum of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, went viral. The article was published and aired by numerous media outlets, both local and international.

“In the statement, it was written that “this was mainly to create openings into the resolution of problems, especially the court case instituted by our lawyers on the proscription order by the federal government this week.”

It further claimed that “if at all any protests occurred anywhere in the country, it might be this notice hasn’t reached those in the field or this message is misunderstood or it is some security agents who are behind it.



“First of all, we would like to state for the record that apart from members of the media forum none of us was informed of this prior to seeing it in the papers and online.

Secondly, the media forum of the Islamic Movement is supposed to consist of Press men and thus has no involvement in the organizing of our ceremonies, our protests or legal activities among others. Thirdly, no decision of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria has ever been communicated on the page of a newspaper.

The IMN disowned Ibrahim Musa as their spokesman:

“In the aftermath of the publication of this unfortunately misleading statement, we subsequently tried to investigate the source of this frankly confusing document. We have consulted extensively with fellow followers of Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky on this matter. Our only conclusion is that this whole affair was a combination of misinformation, miscommunication, human error and other significant factors.

“Here in Abuja, we are legally protesting the illegal detention of our leader and his wife. By doing this for our leader, we are also legally protesting against all forms of illegal detention, extrajudicial killings, among numerous other illegal perpetrations of injustice, by this current administration.

The statement signed by Malam Ibrahim Musa of the media forum does not, in any way, reflect the beliefs and convictions of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria. A single representative of a Forum within the Islamic Movement has no authority to single-handedly dictate his opinion on every one of us. Only our leader Sheikh Zakzaky may do that.

“For this reason, we are compelled to caution the media to never treat, any further, such explicit declarations by any member of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in general, and Ibrahim Musa in particular, without a grain of salt.

We wish to also explicitly state that we are fully determined to continue our protests. We shall continue our peaceful protests, uninterrupted and unhindered till our leader Sheikh Zakzaky is free, for as long as it takes, regardless of obstacles. Until Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky is Free, our protests will continue.”

Four yahoo Boys in Abuja who were arraigned before Justice Muawiyah Baba Idris of Federal Capital Territory, (FCT) High Court, Nyanya, Abuja, have all bagged jail sentences.

While Tosan Ogbe, Onajite Tosan Ejivwo, Abdulmumin Saidu were arraigned on one count charge bordering on fraudulent inducement, Karo Ijire faced a three-count charge, bordering on fraudulent inducement, cheating and impersonation, which are contrary to Section 320 of the Penal Code Law, Cap 532, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria and punishable under Section 322 of the same Law.

Ogbe, Ejivwo and Saidu were sentenced to prison based on the plea agreement their lawyers had with the EFCC, after pleading guilty to the one count charge.

Ijire on the other hand, also pleaded guilty to the three count charge against him. The prosecution led by J. Saidu and Maryam Ahmed Aminu informed the court of a plea bargain agreement between them, and urged the court to convict the defendant in accordance with it.

Ruling on the case, Justice Idris ordered that he be remanded in prison custody, pending his sentencing on the July 29, 2019 being the next adjourned date.
