The Police in Lagos state have begun investigation into the death of a yet-to-be-identified lady inside the Southboung hotel, Morogbo, Lagos state on August 9th.

A statement released by the spokesperson of the command, Bala Elkana, says the corpse of the deceased lady was found on the bed facing up, with swollen face and foam- like fluid out of her mouth. Her throat was knotted with clothes suggesting that she might have been strangulated.

Bala says there were blood stains all over the place. He added that the corpse of the deceased was evacuated to mortuary for autopsy while the scene was preserved for forensic analysis.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Zubairu Muazu has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba to take over the investigation.

The bodies of the three policemen killed by soldiers during an operation in Taraba state last Tuesday Augyst 6th, arrived at the morgue of Garki General Hospital in Abuja in the early hours of today Sunday August 11th.

An ambulance from Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, conveyed the caskets containing the bodies of the slain cops namely Inspector Mark Edaile, Sgt. Usman Danzumi and Sgt Dahiru Musa.

Recall that the slain police officers were in the state to effect the arrest of a notorious kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu. The suspect had been arrested and was been taken to the state police command when some soldiers intercepted the police, engaged them in a serious gun battle and in the process, the suspect escaped.

The police and the Nigerian Army have been engaged in a war of words. While the Army headqaurters claim its officers mistook the police officers for kidnappers, the Police say the defence by the Army is disrespectful and unpatriotic as the police men shouted they were security officers but were still killed at close range

A panel of inquiry has since been set up by the agencies to unravel the mystery behind the attack.

The police has however not announced a date of the burial for the slain officers.

Curvaceous actress, Evia Simon, regarded by some as the ‘booty queen of Nollywood’, is of the opinion that marriage is not for everybody. She told Sunday Scoop, “Marriage isn’t achievement if I must say, but there is a certain joy a woman has when she is married in our society. At the same time, marriage isn’t for everybody. However, you can only know if it’s for you or not when you go into it. I don’t believe in divorce though. I advise people to be mentally, physically and spiritually ready before getting hooked. Don’t get married just because others are doing it.”


On what she does to maintain her sexy shape, Simon said, “I don’t do anything to maintain my stature at all. I have always been this way.”

The movie producer also maintained that she cannot stand a man who is not romantic. “Some Nigerian men are very romantic because of the western life they have been exposed to. On the other hand, some still behave like village men who believe that women should be the romantic ones. I honestly cannot stand a man who is not romantic,” she said.

Recounting her most challenging movie project, the Mind’s Eye actress said, “My most challenging movie project was my first film titled, Unbreak. From working on the script to deciding on the actors to cast, it was very challenging. I also encountered a lot of problems on set. I often say that there are no permanent friends or enemies in Nollywood. Most times it is one’s close friends that frustrate one more on movie sets.”

Veteran actress, Idowu Philips, aka Iya Rainbow, on Saturday, appealed for government’s support for Nollywood.

She opined that the only way to prevent the Nigerian film industry from extinction is for the government to support actors and actresses with financial aid.

Philips who said that the advent of social media and other modern technology had negatively affected practitioners in the industry, maintained that it was worrisome that most producers and filmmakers ran at a loss after producing movies.

The actress spoke with journalists in Ibadan shortly after the inauguration of her 77th birthday ceremonies organised by Gulf Platform and tagged, Unveiling Mama Rainbow at 77 in Dubai, expected to take place in October and November.

Philips said, “I want the government to support us and give us loans. It is the marketers that lend us money and we don’t usually make our money back. There have been several cases where someone spent N2m on shooting a film and got N600,000 in return because the movie had been on the Internet before it was even out for sale.

“I appeal to the government to support us to prevent this profession from going into extinction. I don’t want it to go into extinction. We are begging the government, we are urging them to look at our side.”

Iya Rainbow also advised young actors not to keep flaunting money and material possessions on social media. She said, “It is those who are not wise that are showing their wealth on social media. How can you be showing that you have N15m when you don’t even have N5m. As for those exposing their bodies, we are still talking to them because I don’t like it. I don’t want them to go astray. God said that we should cover our bodies, so why do you have to expose yourself?

“Lack of role models and masters is another issue. In the past, we had masters who trained people and many up and coming actors were usually under their tutelage, but now, someone with money would just come without enough training. That is one of those things killing the industry.”

At the event were the Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Oyo State chapter, Ayodeji Abass-Aleshinloye, who chaired the occasion, and Nollywood actors such as Saidi Balogun, Peju Omobolanle-Ogunmola, Toyin Adegbola, and Razak Olayiwola, among others..

A Nigerian woman is making waves in the US after she chose to run for an at-large seat on Metro Council Nashville.

Metro Council candidate, Zulfat Suara is a Muslim Nigerian woman who emigrated from Nigeria in 1993 and moved to Nashville in 1998.

She has been facing discrimination and attacks online because of her religious beliefs and her race but she hasn't let this stop her.

Reacting to why she chose to run, Suara, a mother-of-five, said: "I am an American citizen, who happens to be Black, who happens to be a woman, who happens to be a Muslim. But, I'm an American and I have every right to give back. I have every right to run."

A message on her official website reads: "My name is Zulfat Suara and I am running for Metro Council at Large. I am running because I believe in a NASHVILLE FOR ALL."

Suara is a certified accountant with a private practice. She placed second among 15 candidates and proceeds to a runoff election on September 12.

If elected, Suara will be Tennesse's first Muslim lawmaker.

Body of 32-year-old South African lecturer found at the bottom of a cliff 2 day after she went missing

The body of a woman found by a tour guide on Table Mountain has been identified as that of missing Cape Town University lecturer, Sakina Grimwood.

32-year-old Grimwood was last seen leaving her Newlands home at 13:30 on Wednesday. She got engaged to her man on September 2018.

Western Cape Gangwatch posted on social media that her body was found at the bottom of a steep cliff at Platteklip Gorge on Table Mountain by a tour guide on Friday. Rescue teams used a helicopter to retrieve the body.

Spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, said a post-mortem examination would be conducted to determine the cause of death.

The Pink Ladies, an organization missing persons, which had circulated information about Grimwood being missing, conveyed its condolences and sympathy to the parents, family and friends.

A Corps member and a police officer were allegedly stabbed and seriously injured by a group of hoodlums in the Alfa Yaya area of Ilorin, Kwara State last weekend.

According to reports, the police officer almost lost his sight from the attack while the corper lost a lot of blood.

The victims are currently receiving treatment in hospitals.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt's Zonal Office on Monday, August 5, 2019 arraigned Okohwan Kelvin before Justice A. T. Mohammed of the Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on one- count charge bordering on cyber crimes contrary to Section 12 (1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention e.t.c.) Act 2015 and punishable under same Section of the same Act.

The charge read: "That you Okohwan Kelvin sometimes between January 2019 and February 2019 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court did unlawfully intercept by technical means the facebook account of one Odili Charles with the intent to use if for fraudulent purposes and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 12 (1) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition Prevention e.t.c.) Act 2015 and punishable under same Section of the same Act".

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the one count charge when read to him.

In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, K.W. Chukwuma-Eneh, prayed the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial. Counsel to the defendant, P. Chukwu did not oppose the prayer of the prosecution.

Justice A.T. Mohammed remanded the defendant in prison custody and ordered that his case file be forwarded to the Presiding Judge of the Federal High Court for re-assignment.

Kelvin's ordeal, followed his arrest by operatives of the EFCC after discreet monitoring of his online activities, based on complaints from members of the public alleging that he hacked and took over their FaceBook accounts, by clicking on a phishing link he sent to them.

Investigations showed that Kelvin had hacked about one hundred FaceBook accounts using phishing links generated from an online hacking website.

He was allegedly selling hacked FaceBook accounts to other fraudsters who were using them for various nefarious online activities. In some cases, he used many of the accounts himself to defraud friends of his victims. .

A middle-aged man identified as Chinedu was shot dead by unknown gunmen in front of his shop in Chobe Junction, Ali Kazaure area of Jos yesterday Friday August 2nd.

According to multiple sources online, the men came in a motorcycle. One of the men got down from the motorcycle, walked up to Chinedu and shot him in the head. He died instantly. His killers fled the scene before they could be apprehended.

The state police command is yet to react to the incident.

Not less than 60 houses have been submerged in Orsu Obodo in Oguta Council Area of Imo State, as flood ravaged the riverine community on Friday night.

No fewer than 2000 people including, women and children have been displced following the incident.

It will be recalled that most communities in Oguta Council Area were submerged in 2012 during the flood that ravaged most part of the country.

According to some the flood victims, they had gone to bed on Friday night while it was raining heavily without any primonition that the river was going to overrun the bank.

One of them said: “We were still in bed when the water started rushing into our homes and in less than 30 minutes, the whole place was covered by water.

“We could barely savage our property as we tried to save our lives first, we were not expecting such misfortune because our farms are submerged as well”.

The lawmaker representing Oguta state constituency, Frank Ugboma called for urgent intervention from relevant government authorities to resettle the displaced persons and alleviate their plight.

The lawmaker made the call on Saturday when he visited the flooded community to ascertain the level of havoc wrecked by the flood.

But Ugboma who expressed regret on the incident urged Imo state government to provide immediate succor for the displaced people.

He said Oguta has been vulnerable to flood “This is the constituency I am representing our land is a flood prone area but I assure my people that I will surely present this problem to the floor of the house”, he said.

He added : “I feel the pain of all of you and we are making effect to provide urgent succor for all of you so be assured that the government is aware of your problem”, he said.

Deputy Governor of Imo Mr Gerald Irona who accompanied the lawmaker during the assessment attributed the incident to buildings erected on the waterways in the area.

He appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA to intervene in the matter for both relief materials and other ways of assisting the flood victims.

Meanwhile, NEMA has given the total number of displaced people as two thousand, while also confirming that sixty houses were submerged in the area.

The Head of Imo/Abia operations office of NEMA Mr Evans Ugoh urged government to muster political courage to demolish some houses built on the waterways in the area.

He said, on the sport assessment of the incident proved that while sixty houses were submerged, two thousand people were also displaced.
