The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Port Harcourt's Zonal Office, on Friday, August 2, 2019 arraigned one Wealth Wilson before Justice A.T Mohammed of the Federal High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on a four-count charge bordering on impersonation and other internet-related offences contrary to Section 22 (3) (a) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (4) of the same Act.

One of the charges reads: "That you Wealth Wilson (a.k.a) Carter Berry, Eric Parter Ham) sometime between 2018 and 2019 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court did fraudulently impersonate one Carter Dan Baldwin with the intent to gain advantage for yourself and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 22 (3) (a) of the Cyber Crimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc) Act, 2015 and punishable under Section 22 (4) of the same Act."

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the four-count charges when read to him.

In view of his plea, prosecution counsel, J.N. Dogoyaro prayed the court to fix a date for the commencement of trial and for the defendant to be remanded in prison custody. .

However, counsel to the defendant, J.C. Okere reminded the judge of the defendant's bail application already before the court.

Justice Mohammed consequently granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1,000,000 (One Million Naira) and two reliable sureties in like sum. .

One of the sureties must be a senior member of the defendant’s family while the other surety must be a civil servant not lower than Grade Level 13.

Wilson ran into trouble when the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force arrested him along Ozuoba by N.T.A Road, Port Harcourt, sometime in June, 2019 on alleged fraudulent activities, ranging from love and internet scams and other related offences. His arraignment followed the Commission's investigations which established prima facie case of fraud against him.

A 12-year old marriage between a female Road Safety Officer and her husband (name withheld) has crashed after the husband reportedly caught her posting nude pictures to her lover in Lagos.

Source confirmed that the wife was caught red handed by her husband after she took pictures of her private part with her Android phone and sent it to her lover while her lover in return sent his manhood and they engaged in phone intimacy.

Source reports that the incident happened in Ikotun area of Lagos, where they resided before the act broke their marriage that had produced three children.

Trouble started in the marriage when her husband, who hails from Delta State, opened her wife’s phone and saw the whole thing. He confronted her with the pictures and she fled from home with the children. She went into hiding until her husband met her on the road and handed her over to the Police at Ikotun Division for her to produce their children.

According to her husband, on the fateful day, he came back from work and went to the bathroom to shower. Not long after that, he impulsively picked up his wife’s phone while she was in the kitchen and was shocked over what he saw. An embittered husband said he saw his wife’s nude styles of her private part sent to her lover and in exchange the lover also posted his own private part. The man said thereafter he confronted his wife with the nude pictures, only for her to pick their three children the next day and fled to an unknown place until he met her on the road and handed her over to the Police.

He said that he was no longer interested in the marriage but wanted to have access and know where she kept his children for their safety.
The woman was arrested and detained at the Police Station. She was asked to produce the children for her husband to see that they were still alive and safe.

When source correspondent visited Ikotun Police Division, both the woman and her estranged husband including their relations were at the Police Station while efforts were been made to resolve the matter of the children’s custody.

When the wife was confronted over the claim by her husband at the Police Station, she did not deny it but said that the incident happened three years ago and their children were in her custody but did not want her embattled husband to know where she kept them and declined to make further comments.

AN Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 32-year-old driver, Emmanuel John, following his arraignment for alleged illegal possession of firearms.

Magistrate J. A. Adegun, who did not take John’s plea, ordered that he be kept in Kirikiri Prison.

He also ordered the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

The case continues on August 9.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clifford Ogu said John committed the offence on June 12 on the Badagry Expressway, Lagos.

He alleged that John was arrested with a double barrel pistol with two live cartridges without a licence.

A 49-year-old man, Ogunkeye Oyewole, has been brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting a female police sergeant.

He pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of breach of the peace and assault.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Clifford Ogu said the defendant committed the offence on July 18 at Ajegunle, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by assaulting Sergeant Blessing Familokun while she was performing her duty.

“The defendant’s wife went to the station to report him for beating her up mercilessly.

“When the policewoman followed the complainant to her house to invite the defendant, he beat her up too,” the prosecutor said.

Magistrate J. A. Adegun granted the defendant N50,000 bail with one surety, who should be employed and show evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case continues on August 9.

Respected actor and movie producer, Adebayo Salami, fondly known as Oga Bello, has told Saturday Beats that he and his sons, also in the business of make-believe, relate more as colleagues than as family members.

The 66- year-old Kwara State-born former president of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, who is currently working on the third season of his new series currently airing on national and pay-television stations, said that even when at home, the professional relationship and understanding between him and his sons manifested more than their father to children rapport.

He said, “When I am on set with my sons, I see them more as colleagues. I see them as the professionals that they are.

“That relationship has grown to the extent that even when we are at home, despite the fact that they are my children, we relate like colleagues.”

Asked if he thought age had slowed him down and reduced the number of movies he featured in these days, the soft-spoken thespian said that his reduced involvement in film productions was as a result of other factors and not his age.

He added, “Age cannot slow me down. If people don’t see me in movies as much as they used to in the past, it could be because I don’t like the scripts.

“I get a lot of invitations to be part of different movie productions but I am careful about the ones I appear in.

“I have been on location for several weeks now for a series we have been shooting.

“In terms of improving the quality of scripts and storyline of movies, we are trying our best through our association.

“As a leader, I talk to my colleagues, especially the younger ones, to come up with scripts that would carry good messages and address important issues in society and I am happy that a lot of dialogue is going on in that regard.

Court Convict Businessman In Absentia For $149,950 Fraud, Orders Arrest Of Sureties

Justice Olusola Williams of the Special Offences Court, sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, July 26, 2019, convicted a businessman, Barnabas Johnson Akojie in absentia for offences bordering on forgery, stealing, obtaining by false pretence and fraudulent conversion to the tune of $149,950.

Akojie was convicted alongside his companies, Hanson Oil and Gas Limited and Hanston Oil and Gas Limited, having been arraigned on an eight-count charge by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on October 9, 2018.

One of the charges reads: “That you, Barnabas Johnson Akojie and Hanston Oil & Gas Limited, on or about the 29th day of November, 2017 in Lagos, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, with intent to defraud, obtained the sum of $69, 975. 00 (Sixty-nine Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventy-five United States Dollars) from Etienne Irazoqui by falsely representing to him that the money was for logistics fee for a contract of supply of crude oil under 'off-OPEC' basis from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), a representation you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(1) and 1(3) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, No. 14 of 2006.”
