PoliticsJust In: I’m Tired Of Being Governor - Gov Wike "Certificate Of Return" by Gistpeeps(op): 12:41pm On Apr 16, 2019
Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, says if the constitution allows for a third term, he would not contest because he is tired.

He called for peace and cooperation in the state, asking all aggrieved parties to bury the past and forge ahead.

“Nobody can be more than the state, so, for me, I want total peace in Rivers state. All of us should come back, wherever you are, whether in the federal or local government, come and work for the interest of the state,” Wike said.

“I’ll not be governor forever. I only have for more years. After the four years, I’ve gone. The constitution does not allow for third term. Even if it does, bye bye, I’m tired. I’ll not.

“I used to tell my wife every day whenever I wake up, I say thank God, you never can tell the next day, what will happen. And any day I have opportunity like this, I’ll speak my mind. I am not afraid, nobody has monopoly to take my life. I will die the day God says I will die.

“Elections have come and gone. We have no other state other than Rivers state. I owe this state a lot, if I die today, I’ll not be buried in Lagos neither will I be buried in Abuja. My house is in Rivers. I am [sic] unrepentable Rivers man. I stood on the altar of God and I said bygone is bygone. Some people do not believe it, I want to assure them I’m not like them. I cannot stand on the altar of God and make a statement and go back.

“Let us forget about whoever is angry or not. Forgive me if I have stepped on your toes and I have forgiven everyone who stepped on my toes. Let’s work for Rivers state. Anybody who knows me knows that when I say something, I’ll do it.

“We have done the little we can in the last four years and we will not wait, we will not relent, we will continue to work. There is no time for enjoyment. If there are any more awards to win in this country, I will collect all for this state.”

Corrupt Man
PoliticsBuhari Government Has Sent Corruption "Under The Carpet" - Lai Mohammed by Gistpeeps(op): 9:33am On Apr 16, 2019
Lai Mohammed, minister of information, says the Buhari administration has sent corruption “under the carpet”.

Speaking in an interview with the Voice of America (VOA), Mohammed said in the second term, this government will be more determined in the fight against corruption.

The minister said that the anti-corruption fight would be frontal in the agenda of the government because corruption is one of the major causes of poverty and underdevelopment in the country.

He spoke on how under the past administration, “55 Nigerians shared a whopping sum of N1.3 billion” equivalent to what the present administration had spent on infrastructure development in four years.

“The president is committed to the fight against corruption and the administration will continue with it,” he said.

“For example, the treasury single account has instituted accountability in government‘s earnings and spending and the whistle blower policy has led to the recovery of billions of naira.

“It takes more than four years to clean a country endemic in corruption. However, it is on record that this administration has driven corruption under the carpet in four years.

“In the next four years, therefore, the government will consolidate on the achievements recorded particularly in the fight against corruption.”

PoliticsDino Melaye Dares Yahaya Bello: "Invite Buhari To Commission One Project" by Gistpeeps(op): 5:51am On Apr 16, 2019
Senator representing Kogi West in the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has dared the state governor, Yahaya Bello, to invite President Muhammadu Buhari to Kogi to commission any project he initiated and completed since assuming power more than 3 years ago.

Melaye, who has been at loggerheads with Governor Bello for a prolonged period, had recently moved against the governor’s alleged bid to borrow N30 billion from Nigeria’s Central Bank.

“I challenge the Governor of Kogi State to invite President Buhari to Kogi State to commission at least one project after more than 3 years in office,” the senator said in a tweet on Monday.

Melaye had claimed that Bello was seeking the N30bn loan from the CBN to raise money for his re-election in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The controversial Senator said he had written the CBN not to grant the loan request to the Governor whom he described as a ‘squandermania’.
