Former BBC and Channel 4 news presenter Tazeen Ahmad has died at the age of 48. The award-winning journalist worked for BBC News, Channel 4 Dispatches and NBC.

Tazeen's brothers confirmed that she had died after battling cancer, leaving behind two sons.

In a statement obtained by Aljazeera they said: "We remain immensely proud of all she achieved - as a mother, journalist, writer and for her coaching work.

"So many people have been in touch remarking on her powerful ability to turn around people's lives for the better."


They continued: "She was so proud of her two young boys who are left to remember their loving, kind, smart, nurturing, beautiful mama.

"She was in an amazing room filled with sunflowers, cushions, candles and an abundance of love when she passed away, surrounded by her close friends and family."

Ms Ahmad has been described as 'one of the most gifted journalists of her generation.'

Man with 5 wives, 23 kids offers three-year-old son for N5m after selling daughter

Nasarawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has arrested a 42-year-old polygamous suspect for attempting to sell his three-year-old son in Lafia, the state capital.

Mohammed Mahmoud-Fari, State Commandant of the NSCDC told newsmen on Thursday in Lafia that the man was arrested on Tuesday following a sting operation by the officers of the command.

According to Mahmoud-Fari, the man, who hailed from Obi Local Government Area of the state, had concluded plans to sell his son for N5m.

“Our undercover officers got wind of his plan and opened negotiation with the suspect who offered to sell the son for N5m.

“He opted to collect the money in cash and it was in the process that we arrested him in Lafia,’’ Mahmoud-Fari said.

The NSCDC boss said investigation revealed that the man has five wives and 23 children, out of which he had already sold a daughter.

Meanwhile, the suspect confessed to the crime and attributed his action to economic hardship, saying he resorted to selling his son to enable him take care of the family.

Mahmoud-Fari said the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.

Everton midfielder, Andre Gomes has been discharged from hospital after a successful surgery to repair horrific fracture-dislocation on his right ankle.

The 26-year-old Portuguese star suffered a fracture-dislocation to his right ankle after a challenge from winger Son Heung-min sent him crashing into Serge Aurier in the 78th minute of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Tottenham at Goodison Park.


On Monday, November 4, the former Barcelona star had a procedure to repair the fracture dislocation and the surgery was successful.

In a statement on Tuesday, Everton said: 'Following a successful operation yesterday, Andre Gomes has now been discharged from hospital and will continue his rehabilitation under the care of our medical team.'

While the club is yet reveal time frame on his return to first-team action, Gomes is unlikely to play again this season.

However, we decided to except that fact that we were both grown enough to make the baby so we have to take responsibility and we decided to have the baby. I’ve been to every doctors appointment, I’ve heard the baby’s first heat beat, I was there for the ultrasound and it really excited me. I couldn’t wait, I was overwhelmed with joy to be having my first child. On August 15th we found out it was going to be a boy! I couldn’t believe I got a boy on the first round. I told my family and friends, 2 of my good friends and business partners immediately agreed to pay for the baby shower and started planning it right away. As of today everything has been ordered, delivered, and paid for. I announced to the world I was going to be a daddy and the love and support hasn’t stopped. I’m so thankful to have so many people excited and happy for me. I sent out over 200 invitations, went to the store with my childs mother to be and did 3 different registries, got everything done and was all set for the baby shower to take place. I rearranged my house and began to prepare my life around a new baby. Here I am, excited, ready and can’t wait for my son LeAngelo to enter the world. I’ve been to every doctors appointment, planned a whole baby shower, told thousands of people I’m expecting my first child, and supported her through her whole pregnancy. Fast forward to October 25, 2019 at 10:27am she text me and said, the BABY IS NOT MINE!!! I’ve never been so hurt in my life, at that very moment it felt like I was shot 10 times in the heart. I couldn’t believe what I had just read through a text message. I’m hurting because I really was looking forward to being a father, I began to change my whole life around in anticipation of a new baby. Time heals all wounds and this to shall past. I’ve received a number of gifts and I know people have already purchased gifts off of my registry. I’m sorry to inform you that the baby shower is canceled and I’m not having a baby.

Two muslim students of the Lagos State University (LASU) on Monday narrated before an Ikeja Special Offences Court how they were robbed and despoil.d at gunpoint by a fellow student, Afeez Ogunbowale.

The students, who were both wearing niqabs (Islamic garment which covers the body leaving the eyes uncovered), in a two-hour testimony revealed to the court that they lost their virginity in the attack.

They made the claims while testifying as prosecuting witnesses during the trial of Ogunbowale, over alleged robbery and rape. In his Facebook post, Ogunbowale had attended Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta before coming to LASU in 2017.


Led in evidence by Mrs. O.A Bajulaiye-Bishi, the prosecuting counsel, the students, who were roommates, told the court that they were 200 level students when the alleged rape and robbery occurred on April 18, 2018.

The witnesses told the court that at around 3a.m., a torch was flashed into their apartment, awakening them suddenly and five men, including Ogunbowale, who were armed with a gun and machetes, forced themselves in.

Student A (name withheld), 23, told the court “they took three phones, a gold chain, earpiece, power bank and N1, 200. Three of the men left, leaving the defendant and one other person who I cannot identify.

“The defendant told the other guy ‘I want to sleep with these girls’. The defendant went to the toilet with my roommate while the second man tried to rape me.

“The second man could not penetrate me because I had an asthmatic attack and the second man left me to swap places with the defendant.

“The defendant came and had sex with me while I had the asthmatic attack and my roommate was screaming and pleading for him to leave me alone and he said in pidgin English ‘if she wan die, make she die’.

“The other three men came back into the apartment and saw the chaos. They told the two other men that this was not what they came here to do and they assisted in looking for my inhaler. My inhaler was found and they all left my apartment.”

Student A told the court that they lodged a report at the Ojo Barracks and they were referred to the Mirabel Center for medical examination and counselling.

“The case was transferred to the Festac Police Station, then to the Ikeja Police Station. When the defendant was apprehended and brought to the Ikeja Police Station, he was shocked when he saw us there.

“He went on his knees and said to us in Yoruba ‘Alhaja please’,” Student A said.

While being cross-examined by Mr Bisi Salau, the defence counsel, Student A said that she recognised Ogunbowale as her assailant because she had seen him a number of times on campus.

She noted that the residence where the alleged crime occurred belonged to her aunt.

“I was a virgin until the day that incident occurred, I cannot remember the exact date I went to the Mirabel Center. When I reported the incident at the Ojo Barracks, they called to inform the Vice-Chancellor of LASU about it.

“The five men who came to our apartment were armed with a gun and the defendant was the one who carried the gun, he touched me with the gun.

“The defendant has a group of friends in my class and his friend sent me a friendship request on Facebook.

“When I looked through his friends list, I saw the defendant’s photograph which I gave to the campus Department of State Security (DSS) official.

“I saw the defendant on campus and alerted the campus security. He was apprehended in September 2018,” Student A said.

Student B (name withheld),20, while giving her testimony narrated how Ogunbowale allegedly raped her.

“The defendant took me to the toilet and pointed a gun at my head, that day I was still a virgin and it was difficult for him to penetrate into me. He said to me ‘you never do am before.’

“He took me to a chair and raped me and the second man left my roommate and exchanged places with him and raped me as well.

“After we had reported the incident to authorities, we were examined and counselled. We had to go there over a long period of time but we had to cut that short because of our exams.

“We could not even take some of our medication because of our school examination,” she said.

The alleged culprit Ogunbowale pleaded not guilty during his arraignment for five-counts of robbery and rape.

The case was adjourned till Nov. 25 for further hearing.

The family of His Royal Highness, King Isreal Okwu Kanu has dismissed a death rumour making the rounds that Eze Kanu, father of Nnamdi Kanu had passed away following the death of his wife, Mrs Sally Okwu Kanu,

Eze Isreal is the father of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra(IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

This came following widespread rumours in many quarters that Eze Israel Kanu had died as a result of the shock he suffered over his wife’s demise.

According to Emmanuel Kanu, “For avoidance of doubt, anyone who wishes to have an audience with the king can visit the Palace”.

Reacting to the development, the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, was quoted in the media as saying that the fake news about his father’s death was aimed at distracting and sabotaging the Biafran restoration.

Kanu, therefore, vowed that no amount of distraction will stop the Biafran restoration.

Meanwhile, It Was reported that Kanu announced the death of his mother, Ugoeze Sally Meme Kanu on Sunday morning.

He said his mother died on 30th August in Germany after doctors were unable to cure her of a protracted illness and accused the federal government of contributing to her death.

Coconut traders in Badagry on Monday staged a peaceful protest against the seizure of 1,450 bags of locally sourced coconut on Oct. 27 by men of the Nigeria Customs Service along Agbara road, Lagos.

The traders under the auspices of Lagos State Coconut Sellers and Traders Association (LASCOSTRAS) in their hundreds, staged the protest at the Palace of Akran of Badagry and Badagry Local Government Secretariat in Ajara.

They were seen at the Akran Palace carrying placards with various inscriptions including: “Coconut is not contraband”, “Customs release our coconut”, “Badagry is a coconut town, we are doing legal business”, “Coconut is not rice. Release our coconut now”, “Many traders of coconut are in debt because customers do not come to buy coconuts at the Agbalata market again”.

Mr. Tunde Hunpatin, the General Secretary and spokesman, LASCOSTRAS, said the protest was to express the traders’ displeasure over the seizure of the coconut and harassment of the traders by Customs officials.

“On the evening of Oct. 27, two trucks and a pickup carload of 1,450 bags of locally sourced coconut on transit to our industrial coconut processors customers was seized by Customs at Agbara checking point.

“The coconut just left Agbalata Central Coconut Market in Badagry when it was seized. Before we knew what was going on, the two trucks and the pickup car were escorted to Ikeja Zone A Zonal Office of the customs, as seized item. Surprisingly, on getting to Ikeja, the consignment which was on credit supply had already been slated for auctioning without examination,”
he said.

At the Akran palace, Mrs. Sabaina Hunpatin, the Iya-Egbe of LASCOSTRAS, appealed to Aholu Meno Toyi I, to save the traders from constant harassment and secure the items from customs officials.

“We have more than 100 communities within the Badagry axis that produce coconut and many people are coming from different states in Nigeria to buy from us. These customers no longer come because of the fear of harassment and seizure.

“We don’t want our coconut market to perish just because of the border closure. We have been in this business 100 years back. Our coconut is not from Ghana, security agents should check properly, we are not frustrating government efforts, so customs should not kill us,”
he said.

Receiving the letter, Akran promised the aggrieved traders that he would wade in and ensure that normalcy returns to the matter. He assured them that the coconut market in the land would not perish, adding that they should await the outcome of the letter sent to Lagos by their Secretary, Mr. Tunde Hunpatin.

At the Secretariat of Badagry Local Government, Mr. Segun Onilude, the Chairman, said his administration was committed to the progress of coconut trading in Badagry.

Onilude, who was represented by the Secretary to the council, Mr. Kamarudeen Ajape, commended the traders for conducting the protest peacefully, assuring them that he would get to the root of the matter.

The chairman said that he would meet with the secretary of the association to know the way forward after his return from Lagos where he had gone to submit a report on the incident.

Two businessmen, Kehinde Sokefun, 45, and David Adeshina, 20, on Friday appeared before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N4.8 million under the guise of securing a Canadian visa for their client.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, are standing trial on a three-count charge of obtaining money under false pretences, conspiracy and stealing. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, ASP Benson Emuerhi, had told the court that the duo committed the offences with others still at large, between February and July at No. 15, Isiba Street, Itire, Surulere, Lagos.

“The duo obtained N4.8 million from the complainant, Mr. Edwin Onyejuba, on the pretext of assisting him to secure a Canadian visa,”
the prosecutor told the court.

Emuerhi said that the duo intentionally conspired with the others to swindle the complainant and failed to procure the visa. The alleged offences contravene Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 and punishable under the same. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250, 000 each and sureties in like sum, and adjourned the case till December 19, for mention.

Yoruba actress, Oloruntimilehin Bosede Bukola popularly known as Kiitan Bukola her love for the art has become a nightmare of sort, crying out that she no longer enjoys seeing them on her body, Vanguard reports.


Bukola, who is also a baker, a supermarket owner and CEO, Kiitanb Visuals told Potpourri in a chat that she got the tattoos out of love.

She said she had them because her ex boyfriend loved tattoos but in recent times she no longer feels cool seeing them on her body. She has 3 tattoos, one on her right lap and 2 on parts she refused to disclose.

“I did them out of love back then because my ex used to love tattoos but right now I’m tired of it. I wish I can remove them now. I have even tried to remove them in South Africa but I was told I would have to come for 5 sessions of treatment before it would clear off. Unfortunately, I was about to leave the country then and couldn’t wait to get it done. Seriously, I ‘m tired of them,” she said.

She said there are many reasons she wants them off. She explains:“I love wearing shorts but I can’t most times because of the tattoos. You know, people have different suspicious opinions about people wearing tattoos. The tattoos embarrass me now.”
