Crime / 18-yrs Old Boy Allegedly Killed For Retaliating The Slap Given To Him By Police by GistWorld(f): 12:54am On Dec 07, 2019 |
An 18-year-old boy has allegedly been shot dead by a police officer because he retaliated when the officer slapped him. Awuzie Duru, 18, was allegedly killed within the premises of a new generation bank branch at Umuaka on Sunday, December 1. According to reports, Awuzie, popularly known as Aboy, from Isiozi Aka in Umuaka, Imo state, had gone to the bank to withdraw money from the bank’s ATM gallery. The boy took his space on the line and other newcomers took their place behind him. After a while, Awuzie left the line to answer a call. When he returned to take his place on the ATM queue, the bank customer who was behind him refused to let him back on the line. This led to a verbal confrontation. A policeman present witnessed the confrontation but did not interfere. The fight soon turned physical and the policeman got involved and started scolding Awuzie. According to The Nation, Awuzie then told the officer that he refused to do anything when the were simply exchanging words but wants to scold him now that it has turned into a physical fight. At this, the officer reportedly slapped Awuzie for talking back at him. Awuzie slapped back and the officer allegedly shot him. 18-year-old boy allegedly shot dead by police officer because he retaliated when the officer slapped him The boy's killing stirred up tension in the town as the youths in the area began planning an attack on the police station. According to village sources, the youths mobilised to attack the police station but some elders appealed to them to allow the police hierarchy handle the matter. An elder in the area told The Nation: "I can tell you that the boys were not happy with the matter is that policeman killed the boy over an altercation. So, they had mobilised to burn down the station to show their anger and loss. "But, some of us had to intervene because this kind of thing has happened here before about 15 years ago when some policemen caused the death of some people in Umuaka here and our youths burned down the police station. So we don’t want this kind of thing to happen anymore. "Some of them are still planning to launch an attack but we’re still appealing to them." The state police commissioner, Rabiu Ladodo confirmed the incident. He added that the command was doing everything possible to contain any further crisis that might arise from the incident. Ladodo also disclosed that the policeman involved had been arrested and will be punished if found guilty. Source: https://www.ogbeta.ng/2019/12/18-yrs-old-boy-allegedly-killed-for.html

Politics / Passage Of Social Media Bills Dangerous, Nigerian Editors Warn by GistWorld(f): 12:57pm On Dec 02, 2019 |
Members of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) have cautioned the National Assembly and the Federal Government against passing the controversial Social Media Bills, saying that “draconian legislations have no place in Nigeria’s democracy”. Rising from the 15th All Nigeria Editors’ Conference (ANEC 2019) at the International Conference Centre, Sokoto, Sokoto State, the editors expressed concern over the proposed fake news and hate speech bills. Condemning what they called all dictatorial tendencies against the media, the NGE members stressed the need to collectively fight against all media abuses by non-professionals. They also frowned at all attempts to punish conventional media for the wrongs of non-professionals on the social media platforms. In a communique, they called for the release of all detained journalists across the country, stating that democracy thrives better in countries that cherish and promote media freedom. At the conference, chaired by former Ogun State governor Aremo Olsegun Osoba, were members of the Sokoto State executive council, led by Governor Aminu Tambuwal. They deliberated on the theme titled: “A distressed media: Impact on government, governance and the society”. The editors also noted that Nigeria’s dwindling economic fortune had contributed to the distress in the media industry and there was need for the government to overhaul its economic architecture in order to reflate the sagging economy and increase the revenue streams of the nation. Celebrities / I Hate My Boobs, They Are Just Too Big - Nigerian Lady Cries Out by GistWorld(f): 11:18am On Nov 27, 2019 |
We always want what we can't have. Blacks wish they were white. Tall people wish they were short. If it's hot out, you wish it was cooler. The list goes on and on. For some women, having giant Bosoms would be a dream to have. However, some women who have them simply want them gone. Such is the situation with this Nigerian lady who took to social media to condemn her natural endowment. The lady's utter condemnation of her big well-rounded boobs have created a lot of mixed reactions on internet. Source: https://www.ogbeta.ng/2019/11/i-hate-my-boobs-they-are-just-too-big.html

Politics / Senate Bill Recognising Males As Rape Victims Passes Second Reading by GistWorld(f): 5:03am On Nov 27, 2019 |
The Senate has taken the second reading of a bill seeking to remove gender restrictions in the offence of rape and related matters. If passed, the bill will formally recognise men as victims of rape as applicable. The bill also seeks to remove the statute of limitation on defilement, while it also seeks increased punishment for kidnapping. Introduced by Senator Oluremi Tinubu (APC-Lagos Central) at the Senate plenary on Tuesday, the SB2 is “A Bill for an Act to amend the Criminal Code Act CAP C38 LFN 2004 to delete the Statute of Limitation on defilement, increase in punishment for the offences of kidnapping, remove gender restrictions in the offence of rape and for related matters, 2019 (SB. 2).” In response, Senator Bala Na’allah (APC-Kebbi South) expressed support for the bill, but noted that the amendments to criminal code being sought are limited in application to southern states. Na’allah said, “The criminal code that sought to be amended is only applicable to the southern states. “The intent of this Bill is to make it on general application in Nigeria, and that is why we must commend Senator Tinubu for this. “The issue of rape has been a very difficult provision in our statue and dates back to the English Law.” Also speaking in support, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha (PDP-Taraba South) said, “I think this is a bold step in the right direction. I think this is quite commendable.” https://punchng.com/senate-bill-recognising-males-as-rape-victims-passes-second-reading/amp/ 18 Likes 3 Shares
