Congratulations Haryor3: Visa approved this morning in Lagos. Going to RIT for a masters program.
Had a deficit of 51k after 30% tuition waiver and it was still approved. So.. It’s not just fully funded people that are getting approved.
Should share a transcript later. |

Good day All.. I started visiting this thread around May last year. It was after ETSU rejected me. I had no GRE or Toefl. I didn't know how to write good SOP. I decided to shoot for fall 2019. I was confused about schools to apply to. I was always asking about different schools and all. I realized I would have to do GRE. I prepared for it. Did it and Toefl also. Did WES evaluation as well. When i ask anyone about funding for my course, they tell me it's rare cause people are willing to pay for any computer science or IT related field because of the return on investment after.
I applied to Tamuc, got admitted but no funding, applied to UALR, Uni of Bridgeport, Bowie state uni, FIU, UM-flint, even tried some free applications school like Georgia southern, Uni of new haven, got admission to some but no funding and still waiting for decision from others, then I didn't apply to any school again, was thinking of going with Tamuc like that till i found out about Apsu in February, i decided to apply and within a short time, say 2 weeks, i was admitted, then the wait started for funding. I sent emails upon emails asking about their funding decision, made calls, all they kept saying was they had not decided yet, then the good news came, Apsu gave me GA funding with stipends. I was overjoyed because I almost gave up. I am grateful to this thread, everyone who has answered my questions at one time or the other and i learnt a lot here also.
Would be going for my visa interview soon. I am hoping for the best.
Cgpa = 3.74/5. Graduated 2015. Still in my early 20s.. Wes evaluated to = 3.25/4 GRE = 296, 4 Toefl = 95
Going for Masters in computer science and quantitative methods, with concentration in predictive analytics.
Thanks Family! |

 CptCharlesVane: Bracelum ala mr bschools ala mr know-know please tell us first which 'bschool' gave you that 7-figure job that no one in the US was qualified for, so much that they called the embassy in Nigeria to fast-track your visa just for you to come get that JP Morgan slush job
I suspect this bracelum works for one of those loan providing companies. to the extent of downgrading someone moving from Google to Tesla that they work as cleaners.
People, hear this! There's something much worse than going flat broke and bankrupt; and it's getting ridden in debt and without a means of income.
Life is what you make it !!! It's a fact that one's chances of success largely depends on where you're born. For the rest of us, we strive regardless. Keep your Stanford sending amebo messages to alumni to block another person to your beer parlor comrades. No be small children dey here. |

You're actually the one not being realistic lol... Like you don't know people who worked hard and all and still didn't get successful. It is well...still there is no 100 percent parallel line that links your success in life to your school choice... Your life is in your hands absolutely but life happens too. We should not ignore that. bracelum: Stop sounding philosophical - this is reality! If you don't use resources at your disposal and achieve success like >90% of your classmates, it is your fault. It is the same "life" you all are experiencing and the fact they became successful shows that they worked harder or smarter than you. |

I never said it is the school's fault. Just explaining how many factors can be responsible.. That's it.. It is called Life.. Anyway we will all die in the end. bracelum: If you use your school's resources and you don't end up successful, then it is not the school's fault. Don't use this to justify complacency. |
Travel › Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 14 by Gloryemo(f): 12:54pm On Apr 06, 2019 |
Not always so in every case sha. Life is not black and white. There have been people who attended elite schools and took advantage of all the resources but still people when attended average schools are doing better than them. It is good to want what is good and work towards it but still you can't calculate anything accurately about the future or predict accurately someone's success based on the school they attend. At least someone who never went to high school is making decisions that is affecting over 180 million people LOL... bracelum: First, this guy does not have the right profile to compete for MBA jobs with his fellow Stanford GSB classmates. If he had the right profile, he would have secured one of the juicy jobs from companies that hire on-campus. The jobs are there for people in such elite MBA programs, but if you don't have the right profile or you don't interview well, you won't get it.
Second, Stanford can block opportunities for him. Their alums are in almost every company in the world (this is why graduates from elite schools tend to be more successful on the average). Also, when such things occur, the school sends emails to all their alums + current students and I'm sure the guy's name will appear on that email. So, the loyal alums might decide to screw the guy up. In fact, I believe this is the major reason for his predicament.
In summary, I still stand by my assertion. If you attend an elite school and you don't end up successful, then you've failed in using the massive resources at your disposal. It is not the school's fault. If 98% of your classmates secured a job of >$200K per year and you got nothing, then you should know that the fault is from you. |

You have sense. What I keep asking is after all the green card hustle and you eventually have it, so what? Are you even genuinely happy and fulfilled. This life is short and temporary. Always think of the future. To me, working hard in your own country and visiting those countries on vacation is the best. Don't shorten your happy days because of one's country citizenship. We will all still die last last. And even not all american citizens are successful, happy or rich like Nigerians back home. Most are depressed and damaged. Be wise. Don't compare yourself with another. It's your journey and life after all. My 2cent oh doyinbaby: I will rather Me and my future husband stay in Nigeria and manage than for me to let him embark on a journey where he will be sleeping with all sorts of women just because we sha want American green card by all means |
