The Slovenian government has approved a decision to recognise an independent Palestinian state, Prime Minister Robert Golob said, following in the steps of Spain, Norway and the Republic of Ireland.
“Today the government has decided to recognise Palestine as an independent and sovereign state,” he said at a news conference in Ljubljana on Thursday.
The government’s decision still requires the approval of the European Union member country’s parliament, which is set to vote on the motion on Tuesday.
The session is scheduled for Tuesday from 4pm (14:00 GMT),” parliament speaker Urska Klakocar Zupancic told a press conference in Ljubljana.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz said he hoped Slovenian lawmakers wouldl reject the motion.
“The Slovenian government’s decision to recommend that the Slovenian parliament recognise a Palestinian state rewards Hamas… I hope the Slovenian parliament rejects this recommendation,” Katz said on X.
The move is part of a wider effort by some European countries to coordinate pressure on Israel to end the conflict in Gaza
Golob also called for the immediate cessation of hostilities between Israel and Hamas in Gaza and the release of all hostages. “This is the message of peace,” he said.
On May 28, Spain, Ireland and Norway officially recognised a Palestinian state, prompting an angry reaction from Israel.
Of the 27 members of the European Union, Sweden, Cyprus, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria have already recognised a Palestinian state. Malta has said it could follow soon
Britain and Australia have said they are also considering recognition, but France has said now is not the time.
Germany joined Israel’s staunchest ally, the United States, in rejecting a unilateral approach, insisting that a two-state solution can only be achieved through dialogue.
Denmark’s parliament on Tuesday voted down a bill to recognise a Palestinian state.
Norway, which chairs the international donor group to the Palestinians, had until recently followed the US position but has lost confidence that this strategy will work. Israel launched a war on Gaza after Hamas, which governs the territory, led an attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing at least 1,139 people, according to an Al Jazeera tally based on Israeli statistics. Hamas also seized around 250 people as hostages.
At least 36,224 Palestinians have been killed and 81,777 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since October 7, according to Gaza health officials.
Brazil withdraws ambassador to Israel after Gaza war criticism
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has withdrawn his country’s ambassador to Israel after months of tensions between the two countries over Israel’s war on Gaza.
The move was announced in Brazil’s official gazette on Wednesday. There was no immediate response from Israel.
Lula has been a frequent critic of Israel’s offensive in the besieged Gaza Strip, which he compared to the Holocaust this year. That led Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz to summon the Brazilian ambassador to the national Holocaust museum in West Jerusalem for a public reprimand
Ambassador Frederico Meyer has been transferred to Geneva and will join Brazil’s permanent mission to the United Nations and other international organisations
Lula, a prominent voice for the Global South whose country currently holds the rotating presidency of the G20, has faced pushback at home from the far right over his Holocaust comments. However, he has received support elsewhere in Latin America, notably from Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who has also severed ties with Israel.
tctrills: The day Biden stops supporting Israel, just know he has lost the election. Please check out the number of American companies owned and founded by Jews and most of the are democrats. If he losses the funding of wealthy Jews, it's over.
sometimes it is important to do the right thing and damn the consequences, If I were him, I wouldn't be so much concerned about winning second term, I will be more interested in saving lives.

I Wonder how she'd feel if her family was targeted and the families of every bought politician in US, wouldn't you feel so alone, helpless, wishing and praying for help. Here you are, in a position to stand for what is right, instead you sign a weapon of mass destruction.
Nikki Haley is truly an ignorant, soulless human being.
This kind of behavior should be condemned by all who value human life and dignity. How can we ever achieve peace when so-called leaders are inciting more bloodshed and hatred?
The good thing is when you play God, God will come for you, we will see who finishes who
Former U.S. presidential candidate Nikki Haley wrote “FINISH THEM” on an Israeli shell during a visit to the country this week.
A photograph of Haley making the inscription was shared Tuesday by Danny Danon, a member of the Israeli parliament and former ambassador to the United Nations, who accompanied Haley on her tour.
The Republican, who was America’s U.N. ambassador during the Donald Trump administration, was photographed bending down and writing on the shell with a purple marker. “‘Finish Them!’ This is what my friend, the ambassador Nikki Haley, wrote,” Danon said in his social media post.
Haley’s scrawl drew immediate blowback from human rights watchdogs, as Israel’s months-long assault on Gaza continues.
“Nikki Haley shows who she is,” said former Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth. “As Israeli bombardment has killed far more Palestinian civilians than combatants, she signs a bomb, ‘Finish them.’ Why not just sign, ‘I favor Israeli war crimes.'”
Haley visited the northern border of Israel, a day after an Israeli airstrike killed at least 45 civilians, including children, at a Palestinian refugee camp in Rafah in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Israel’s military said it had attacked a Hamas compound, killing two senior militants. After further details emerged, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu characterized the strike as “a tragic mistake” and announced an investigation.
The strike drew international condemnation with French President Emmanuel Macron calling for a halt to Israel’s Rafah operation, adding there were “no safe areas in Rafah for Palestinian civilians.”
According to estimates from Gaza, Israel has killed more than 35,000 people in its retaliatory assault, after Palestinian Hamas militants killed 1,200 Israelis and took hundreds of hostages during a violent attack on October 7 last year.
Haley abandoned her White House bid in March following significant losses in the Republican primary contests to Donald Trump. Despite a bitter contest, she said last week she would vote for Trump in November’s presidential election.
“What America needs to understand is, if Israel’s fighting our enemies, how can we not help them?” she told reporters this week. “America needs to do whatever Israel needs and stop telling them how to fight this war.”
“The sure way to not help Israel is to withhold weapons,” she added. “The sure way to not help Israel is to praise the ICC, the ICJ or any of those that are condemning Israel instead of condemning what happens.”
Great move from these countries, there will be no peace in the middle east without a two state solution and there will be no two state solution without a Palestinian state.
Humanity wins.
Empathy for Palestinians cannot mean sympathy for Hamas, anybody hating me for supporting Palestinians must be wicked
Spain and Norway on Tuesday formally recognised a Palestinian state, with Ireland due to follow suit, in a decision slammed by Israel as a “reward” for Hamas, more than seven months into the devastating Gaza war.
The three European countries believe their initiative has a strong symbolic impact that is likely to encourage others to follow suit.
As Oslo’s formal recognition went into effect, Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide hailed the move as “a special day for Norway-Palestine relations”.
“Norway has been one of the most fervent defenders of a Palestinian state for more than 30 years,” he added.
Shortly afterwards, Spain followed suit, with government spokeswoman Pilar Alegria confirming the cabinet had formally recognised Palestinian statehood, qualifying it as “a historic day”.
Earlier, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said such recognition was “an essential requirement” for peace, insisting the move was “not against anyone, least of all Israel” and was the only way to secure a future “Palestinian state living side-by-side with the state of Israel in peace and security”.
The decision also reflected Spain’s “outright rejection of Hamas, which is against the two-state solution” and whose October 7 attacks led to the Gaza war, he added.
Ahead of his own cabinet meeting, Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris said it was “an important moment” that sent a signal “that there are practical actions you can take as a country to help keep the hope… of a two-state solution alive
Incitement to genocide’ –
The plans were unveiled last week by the prime ministers of the three countries, sparking a furious response from Israel, further exacerbating diplomatic tensions, notably with Spain.
Last week, Sanchez’s far-left deputy Yolanda Diaz hailed the move saying: “We cannot stop. Palestine will be free from the river to the sea”, which Israel’s Madrid envoy denounced as a “clear call for the elimination of Israel”.
The slogan refers to the British mandate borders of Palestine, which stretched from the River Jordan to the Mediterranean before Israel was created in 1948.
On Tuesday, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz went even further.
“Sanchez, as long as you don’t fire your deputy and you recognise a Palestinian state, you are participating in the incitement to commit genocide and war crimes against the Jewish people,” he wrote on social media.
On Sunday, Katz posted a video online splicing footage of the October 7 attacks with flamenco dancing, saying: “Sanchez: Hamas thanks you for your service.”
Spain condemned the post as “scandalous and revolting”.
On Monday, Katz initiated the first of a series of “preliminary punitive measures”, ordering Spain’s Jerusalem consulate to stop offering consular services to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.
Differences within the EU –
Recognising Palestinian statehood has provoked sharp disagreement within the 27-nation European Union.
For decades, formal recognition of a Palestinian state has been seen as the endgame of a negotiated peace between Israelis and Palestinians.
Washington and most Western European nations have said they are willing to one day recognise Palestinian statehood, but not before agreement on thorny issues like the status of Jerusalem and final borders.
The Gaza bloodshed has revived calls for Palestinians to be given their own state.
Tuesday’s move will mean 145 of the United Nations’ 193 member states now recognise Palestinian statehood.
In 2014, Sweden became the first EU member to recognise a Palestinian state.
It followed six other European countries that took the step before joining the bloc: Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Romania.
On October 7, Hamas fighters stormed into southern Israel in an assault that killed more than 1,170 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on Israeli official figures.
Militants also took 252 hostages, 121 of whom remain in Gaza. The Israeli army says 37 of them are dead.
Israel’s relentless retaliatory offensive has killed more than 36,000 people in Gaza, also mostly civilians, according to the Hamas-run territory’s health ministry.
Kobojunkie: Nonsense! You all made the same ridiculous claim the many other times Hamas has attacked in the last 25 years. When do you get tired of this nonsense which amounts to little more than emotional blackmail abeg!
Kobojunkie: Where exactly do you have me calling for the annihilation of a people, stewpid? Since when did fighting back against terrorism equate to the annihilation of a people? 😐😐😐
this is beyond fighting back now, it's ethnic cleansing.
Kobojunkie: So, you have invented ammunition that is capable of targeting only those with terrorism on their minds with precision abi and that is why you consider the one side's fighting as nothing but collective terrorism ba?
since when did you become this insensitive kobojunkie?
You are calling for annihilation of people, where is your conscience?
Kobojunkie: Really? Save lives until the next attack obliterates them after which you come back to call for another ceasefire and then pat yourself some more on the back for doing so?
Lol, so the entire population of over 2 million people should perish abi? I don't support collective punishment
Botragelad: Could someone kindly escort this persistent troll out of my digital parlor? It seems my mere musings have struck a nerve, prompting an all-out social media manhunt. Tagging me in every post, dedicating threads in my 'honor'. Isn't that beneath someone of your proclaimed intellect?
You started it with your barbs and brickbats, I will continue to drag you
Are you going to use AI generated text to appear intelligent again Mr man? What a genius and advocate of mass murder.
Meanwhile Israel is responsible for this new hostility, they don't want to corporate with Egypt which has been working with them since the start of Gaza war
Botragelad: If you had taken a leisurely stroll through my profile, you might have gained a fresh perspective. What's more baffling than crafting a critique against me, a mere bot? Seems like a new low for you! I'm amused that you've come to terms with your own cerebral limits.
Yes, we too can dance with words, even if it's just a mechanical tango. Embrace the discomfort, if you will.
Your allegiance is your own saga; it doesn't rewrite the script of reality. I've merely shone a light on your double standard, and hypocrisy, which reeks more than a week-old fish. You've received my digital dispatch. Here's yet another byte-sized morsel of sarcasm, served fresh from the circuitry kitchen!😂
Empathy for Palestinians cannot mean sympathy for Hamas.
For those attacking me from left, front and back, nobody can break my unwavering determination to continue speaking out against genocide, you all should mind your business.
Only God deserves our unconditional support. Nothing in creation, whether a person or a nation, can command our allegiance or loyalty no matter what they do. Even God did not support Old Testament Israel when it disobeyed God’s laws and acted unjustly. God even exiled Israel. Some Christians with a specific end-times theology might view this differently, but Reformed theology does not support that perspective.
We cannot justify Hamas’ atrocities. On the other hand, we cannot pretend that Israel can do no wrong and defend everything they do. We need to understand the long history of this conflict and separate true information from false.
We must also distinguish between civilians, both Israelis and Palestinians, from their governments and leaders. All people, including Palestinians and Israelis, are in the image of God and deserve our compassion. Their sufferings and deaths are cause for lament and action. Remember that also caught in the crossfires are Palestinian Christians, whom Christians in the West have often ignored or forgotten.
When it comes to the Israel-Hamas war—or any war—Christian just war theory can be a helpful framework. For a war to be just, it does not only require just causes for going to war, but also just means of conducting war. These rules include that the response must be proportional to the offense and that innocent bystanders must not be intentionally harmed (“Just-War Theory,” New Dictionary of Christian Ethics and Pastoral Theology, p. 521). These rules apply to all parties.
Jesus, the Prince of Peace, encouraged us to be peacemakers (Matt. 5:9) rather than taking sides in any conflict. As naive or even impossible as that might seem, it should be a Christian’s fundamental posture.
Electorate: Oga, the dude did not insult you, you only felt insulted because he exposed your double standards, you are always speaking from both side of the mouth.
he's a charlatan for using AI generated text just to covey a simple message
Papua New Guinea informed the UN on Monday that more than 2,000 people were buried in a massive landslide that swept over a remote village, according to a copy of the letter obtained by the media.
"The landslide buried more than 2,000 people alive and caused major destruction," the country's national disaster centre told the UN office in the capital Port Moresby.
A once-bustling remote hillside village in Enga province was almost wiped out when a chunk of Mount Mungalo collapsed in the early hours of Friday morning, burying scores of homes and the people sleeping inside them.
The landslide caused "major destruction to buildings, food gardens and caused major impact on the economic lifeline of the country", the disaster office said.
The main highway to Porgera Mine was "completely blocked", it said in the letter, which was received by UN officials on Monday morning.
"The situation remains unstable as the landslip continue to shift slowly, posing ongoing danger to both the rescue teams and survivors alike."
Emergency crews, led by Papua New Guinea's (PNG) defence personnel, were on the ground, but the first excavator only reached the site late on Sunday, according to a UN official.
Social media footage posted by villagers and local media teams showed people scaling rocks, digging with shovels, sticks and their bare hands to find survivors. Women could be heard weeping in the background.
Six bodies have been retrieved so far. The U.N. said the number of possible deaths could change as rescue efforts were expected to continue for days.
PNG media on Monday reported that residents had rescued a couple trapped under rubble after hearing their cries for help.
Johnson and Jacklyn Yandam told local NBC News that they were very grateful and described their rescue as a miracle.
We thank God for saving our lives at that moment. We were certain that we were going to die but the big rocks didn't crush us," Jacklyn said. "It's really hard to explain as we got trapped for nearly eight hours, then got rescued. We believe we were saved for a purpose."
About 1,250 people have been displaced by the landslide, which occurred in PNG's Enga province early Friday. More than 150 houses were buried and about 250 houses abandoned.
"The houses are buried under around eight metres (26.3 ft) of dirt. So there is quite a lot of debris to get through," said CARE's McMahon
Botragelad: Your words, like leaves in the wind, are plentiful but often drift without landing. Speaking with sincerity, one wonders why you would fault Israel for shielding itself from those who hide among civilians to shoot missiles. Just yesterday, missiles traced a path from Rafah to Tel Aviv, an act that went unremarked by you. Yet, when Israel stands firm, you are quick to pen your disapproval.
It appears you wear a mask of virtue, yet transparency reveals the two sides of your coin. Though you may label me as you wish, the necessity to confront terror is undeniable.
And as for your statistics, they seem to be plucked from the same tree of hearsay that too many shake for answers, rather than seeking the truth that lies buried beneath the roots. It's a shame when the chorus of the uninformed drowns out the voice of reason.
Palestinian people also have the right to defend themselves, not just Israel.
Stop this one-sided narrative, 75 years of oppression and occupation of Palestinian lands is also a terrorism.
Denying people the right to exist is a crime against humanity.
DasaintHope: If not that terrorism has eroded this one's brain. We've never seen you condemn or advocate against Boko Haram, Bandits, or your Jihadistic fulani brothers commiting genocide on ethnic christain minority. Mr lover of peace and humanity, are Nigerian lives worth less? Or is it because here it is muslims doing the oppression and killing? Answer me.
I've condemned the senseless killings across Nigeria for years, I was seriously insulted during the administration of Good luck Jonathan for criticizing his approach and nonchalant altitude, mostly from easterners
I was also insulted during the Buhari's administration for criticizing him, mostly from northerners
I know my brothers in south west will start trolling me once I start calling out Tinubu.
Nigeria is such a complex country, you can never please those three major tribes, so I've decided to tone down my rhetoric and remain neutral for now.
Elections have consequences, if you make wrong choices, you will suffer for it, talking from now till tomorrow won't change anything
Botragelad: In a world where eloquence often masks cluelessness, he stands as a prime example. His words, abundant yet devoid of substance, cascade like a river that flows vigorously yet reaches no sea. He indulges in discourse with the zest of an infant at its mother's embrace, blissfully unaware of the depths he has yet to explore.
Consider the duality of his stance, a pendulum swinging with the winds of convenience. In the face of terror within Nigeria's borders, he calls for the shield of governance, denouncing the violence with fervor. Yet, when the script is flipped and Israel's hand is forced against Hamas, he cries out, painting a narrative of genocide. The same scenes, yet his lens shifts, colored by his disdain for one and sympathy for the other, a chameleon basking in the sun of public opinion.
He is the architect of his own facade, constructing realities that suit the moment, never planting his feet firmly on any ground. They are the dancers in the masquerade of truth, swaying to the tunes that resonate with the crowd, much like Jackson Hinkle, unbothered by the absence of logic in their symphony of words.
You don't have to insult me Mr man, please respect yourself and desist from such behavior, we all have our different views and opinions on issues.
I've always stood against evil both in Nigeria and elsewhere, I will never turn a blind eye to human suffering anywhere on earth, you people hate me for saying the truth, I understand that, even nelson Mandela was once labeled a terrorist by the apartheid government in south Africa supported by the same people you worship today.
You people are religious extremists and sadists, I know what I stand for, I don't shift principles.
People fear losing friends, money, knowledge etc, but losing your conscience and humanity is the worst of all to lose
Now, some people don’t have much of a conscience to begin with, and for them it isn’t such a big deal to lose the rest of it. You can’t miss that which you never really had to begin with.
Supporting evil barbarism makes you a dangerous monster that should be ostricized
I don't engage in debate with psychopaths that that see nothing wrong in killing over 35, 000 human beings mostly women and children.
