The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has found a 28-year-old Abuja-based nurse, Lucy Likeh, who recently went missing in Nigeria’s capital city, PUNCH Online can confirm.
Our correspondent learnt that Likeh was found and taken to the hospital for medical examination by men of the Utako Police Division in the FCT, where her family had earlier reported her missing.
The development was made known by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, who spoke with our correspondent in an exclusive interview following an inquiry on Wednesday.
Adeh said, “The lady (Lucy Likeh) has been found and taken to the hospital by the Utako Police Division where her family had earlier reported a case of a missing person.
Details will be communicated to you later. We are proactive, and we urge the public to be rest assured while trusting the police with information.”
Meanwhile, Likeh’s brother-in-law, Shadrach Obi, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Wednesday, adding that she had been admitted for proper medical attention.
“It was like a miracle. She’s currently at the hospital for treatment. She is very weak and unable to explain what happened to her yet,” Obi said.
The PUNCH had reported how nurse Likeh went missing after visiting a motor park in the FCT to waybill a parcel to her friend.
Hezbollah rockets have sparked days of bushfires in northern Israel, with swathes of forest reserve destroyed and 11 people hospitalised for smoke inhalation.
Patches of scorched earth start to appear half an hour out from the Lebanon border, plumes of grey smoke mapping the route to either side across the hills.
Local residents in Israel’s largely-deserted northern communities, have been battling scattered fires for several weeks. One member of a civil defence team said there had been 15-16 fires in the area since then. But high temperatures over the past few days have led to a sharp increase.
Firefighters on Monday battled for 20 hours to put out fires around the town of Kiryat Shmona.
The fires – which forest administrators say have so far burned through 3,500 acres of land – are fuelling fresh demands that Israel’s government take steps to end the escalating conflict with Hezbollah on its northern front.
Israel’s war cabinet was due to meet on Tuesday evening to discuss the worsening security situation along its northern border. Israel and Hezbollah have been trading cross-border fire on a near daily basis since last October and recent weeks have seen an escalation in the intensity of attacks.
Residents of one kibbutz said the Hezbollah rocket attacks were “definitely” linked to Israel’s actions in Gaza, and that since the Israeli military's ground operation in the southern Gaza city of Rafah began, three or four rockets were flying over their houses every day.
Tens of thousands of residents, evacuated from the area after the Hamas attacks on Israel, are still waiting to return to their homes. But government deadlines to secure these areas keep slipping.
Many of these displaced residents see a ceasefire in Gaza as the key to calming the situation in the north.
But Israel’s far-right security minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir, visiting firefighters in the nearby town of Kiryat Shmona today, said the government’s response to Hezbollah’s rockets should be war.
“No peace in Lebanon while our land is being targeted,” he said.
Herzl Halevi, Israel’s army chief of staff, also visiting the region, said the country was “approaching the point where a decision will have to be made.”
The Israel Defence Force, he said, was “prepared and ready to move to an offensive.”
Hezbollah’s deputy chief, Sheikh Naim Qassem, told Al-Jazeera that the group was not seeking to widen the conflict with Israel but that any Israeli expansion of the war would be met “with devastation”.
The government has been keen to contain this conflict on its northern border, aware that Hezbollah is a better-trained and better-equipped enemy than Hamas – and that fighting here would be a very different kind of war.
But the fires have put this grinding forgotten conflict squarely on the front pages of national newspapers, and Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is under fresh pressure to act.
He and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Gaza are already at the centre of delicate negotiations over a potential ceasefire and hostage exchange deal in Gaza, which US President Joe Biden is pushing both sides to accept.
Nonsense, what is their business with ICC since US is not a member
America should stop this absurdity all in the name of protecting israel, US hypocrisy is on full display this time, these are the same people that celebrated the arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin of Russia
This is a racially motivated terror attack on innocent woman.
I hope they lock this piece of human garbage up for the maximum sentence possible.
I'm waiting for the supporters of evil to come and defend him.
The truth is that we have so many of such people in IDF, they are the ones bombing innocent women and children everyday in refugee camps, very wicked soul
Grayson Beare appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court this morning charged with the murder of Halima Hoosen-Preston and critically injuring her husband, Shaun, and 14-year-old son because they "supported Palestine."
It is alleged that Beare invaded the Hoosen-Preston home in the early hours of Sunday morning and carried out the fatal knife attack.
In a viral video, Beare speaks of why he carried out the attack. Asked why he allegedly killed an innocent person, he said: "She is not totally innocent," adding that Hoosen-Preston "and her family thought it was entertaining that my cousins were killed in Israel."
The case against Beare was adjourned to June 11 for a mental assessment and bail consideration.
Botragelad: How about you tell Hamas to stop hiding behind civilians!?
How about you tell IDF to be more professional in their conduct, abide by international humanitarian law and the recent ruling of ICJ to pull out of Rafah
Kdon2: Why are you being blatantly dishonest? Has hamas agreed to release all the hostages? They want prisoner exchange to retrieve lawfully convicted felons☹️
I'm not the spokesperson for Hamas, but I read it in the news yesterday that Hamas has welcomed the new ceasefire deal announced by Joe Biden, that deal is in jeopardy right now because Israeli government is saying another thing
Botragelad: Your hypocrisy is on full display once again. You seem to be implying that Israel is responsible for the ongoing conflict, when in fact, the war could cease immediately if Hamas chose to surrender and release the hostages they're holding captive.
However, instead of urging Hamas to stand down, you persist in devoting your energy to supporting their terrorist activities. If you genuinely cared about the welfare of all individuals, including Israelis, you would direct your efforts towards advocating for the victims of Hamas' aggression. Yet, your comments consistently align with the narratives of Hamas, even when they are unequivocally at fault.
This blatant duplicity is nothing short of deceitful, leading me to question whether you're aware of your own hypocrisy or if it's only apparent to others.
You are the hypocrite Mr man, I know you are blind and cannot see the fact that Israeli government have a different agenda, the senseless killing of fleeing civilians everyday, the horrific and gory images of dead families we see in refugee camps where they are told to go and seek shelter, are they Hamas fighters?
This is clearly ethnic cleansing never seen before, they just want to wipe these people out, but you can't see any of that
Botragelad: Hey, when will you ask your Hamas buddies to stop the rocket show? Or Israeli lives do not matter?
All life is precious man, I want the remaining hostages to be released, but netanyahu isn't allowing that to happen.
He doesn't want any ceasefire agreement with Hamas that will pave the way for the release of israelis in captivity, he also doesn't want any two-state solution to Israel Palestine conflict.
He's more interested in his political career, the whole world can see that except you people here in Nigeria.
Floky215: Isreal tourist would simply take their money elsewhere...!!!
Moslem be shouting its not a religious war but 90% of nations against Israel are moslem dominated countries...!!
Israel win again here...Maldives lose by loosing money they are suppose to make cos of their demented way of thinking..!!
Either way Israel would continue the war in gaza and bring it to a logical conclusion ..!!
Any who don't like it can either join their retardss brothers at arms in gaza or go furrck themselves...!!!
90% of countries against Israel are Muslims according to you.
The same Muslim countries that have done absolutely nothing since the start of this conflict, I mean countries like Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, irag etc, they are just watching things, except turkey and Iran.
Meanwhile in far away Europe, countries like Norway, Spain, Ireland and Slovenia have gone as far as recognizing the state of Palestine.
In south America, Columbia cut diplomatic ties with Israel last month, Chile has joined the list of countries rallying behind the genocide case against Israel at the international court of justice. Brazil has withdrawn its ambassador from Israel
Canada has also suspended arms sales to Israel, South Africa, Russia and china have all criticized Israel harshly
It won't change much but it will give the rest of the world something to pause and think about, a small nation with the courage of a super power. A nation that felt the suffering and the helplessness of a powerless people far away.
The Maldives has announced a ban on all Israeli's entering the country in response to the ongoing war in Gaza.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu announced on Monday that the government had changed the law in order to ban Israeli passport holders from the island nation.
The predominantly Muslim country, which forms part of a wider Indian Ocean archipelago, has seen public anger grow in recent weeks over the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.
it comes despite nearly 11,000 Israelis visiting the Maldives last year - a number which constitutes 0.6% of the country's total tourist arrivals.
Frequented by newlyweds and holidaymakers alike, the island's crystalline waters and white sandy beaches have seen it become a go-to for those looking to enjoy a luxury getaway.
Now, the president has announced the ban following advice from his cabinet, adding that the nation will establish a subcommittee tasked with overseeing the process of identifying would-be Israeli holidaymakers.
In response to the claims, Israel’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Oren Marmorstein, said the Foreign Ministry recommends Israelis avoid any travel to the Maldives. He added that this including those with foreign passports and that holidaymakers who are currently visiting the island should now consider leaving.
“For Israeli citizens already in the country, it is recommended to consider leaving, because if they find themselves in distress for any reason, it will be difficult for us to assist,” the ministry said.
President Muizu added that the Maldives would appoint a special envoy to assess the needs of Palestinian.
It added that a fundraising campaign had been launched to “assist our brothers and sisters in Palestine” according to a press release.
The fundraising effort will go under the slogan “Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine”.
“Together with the government and people of Maldives, I call for an immediate ceasefire, an end to violence and unhindered humanitarian access,” the president posted to X formerly known as Twitter last week.
It follows condemnation from the president following last week's Israeli airstrike on Rafah
I'm fully in support of tomorrow's strike by the organized labour, they need to mount serious pressure on the government to get some things done.
Mr president, people are hungry, don't turn a deaf ear to the plights of Nigerians, all we are asking for is good governance, we are not asking for too much.
Botragelad: Wow, big surprise! You're spewing nonsense again! Another attempt to gaslight me. Got anything better to say? How about telling Hamas to just give up already? Yeah, that'll solve everything!
Talking of gaslighting, you people are expert in that.
But I will continue to expose you people, very wicked souls, how can you be so wicked, celebrating the death of over 36,000 people mostly women and children and saying every Palestinian is a terrorist, that isn't Christlike.
You label those of us that are showing empathy terrorist sympathizers and continue to hail murderers everyday, it says a lot about you guys.
Botragelad: Oh, you think taking out terrorists is a bit too spicy for your taste? Well, that's cute. The Maldives (or wherever) can keep on keeping on, but Israel won't lose a sleep.
The mission to eradicate terror continues, no matter how much you cry online. Your digital tears won't hydrate the terrorists enough to keep them alive. Israel won't be deterred by your online whining, they'll just keep on keeping on, terrorist-hunting like a boss!
Coming from a delusional and misguided fellow, you are just too blinded by religion and hateful as well, you and your ilk revel in human suffering and justify every unconscionable act of Israel against the people of Palestine, posterity will judge you all
