Suspected Islamist rebels killed at least 38 people in an overnight attack on villages in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, two district officials and a civil society leader said Saturday.
Local civil society leader Justin Kavalami blamed members of the Allied Democratic Forces for the attack. The ADF, alleged to be behind another village assault that killed at least 16 people earlier this week, originates from neighboring Uganda.
Now based in eastern Congo, it has pledged allegiance to Islamic State and mounts frequent attacks, further destabilizing a region where many militant groups are active.
Armed men used guns and machetes to attack residents of villages in Beni territory, in North Kivu province, overnight Friday, local official Fabien Kakule told Reuters.
District official Leon Kakule Siviwe said the death toll stood at 38 and said the recent surge in violence was due to the attackers taking advantage of a low security presence.
They came to "slaughter the population when there were no soldiers in place," he told Reuters.
Diane Rwigara, an outspoken critic of Rwandan President Kagame, has been barred from standing in next month’s presidential election.
Only Mr Kagame and two other politicians - Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party and independent Philippe Mpayimana - were cleared by the electoral body.
Ms Rwigara, who was also disqualified from the 2017 poll, took to Social media to express her disappointment to Mr Kagame.
“Why won't you let me run? This is the second time you [have] cheat[ed] me out of my right to campaign,” she said.
The 42-year-old, who is the leader of the People Salvation Movement (PSM), had earlier told the BBC’s Newsday programme that she had hoped to be able to stand this time round. "I'm representing the vast majority of Rwandans who live in fear and are not allowed to be free in their own country,” she said.
“Rwanda is portrayed as a country where the economy has been growing. But on the ground, it's different. People do lack the basics of life, food, water, shelter.
But on issuing its provisional list of candidates, the electoral commission said Ms Rwigara had failed to provide the correct documentation to show she had no criminal record. It also said she had failed to show she had enough support nationwide to stand.
"On the requirement for 600 signature endorsements, she did not provide at least 12 signatures from eight districts," Oda Gasinzigwa, the electoral commission chief, was quoted as saying.
Another reason the commission gave was that Ms Rwigara had failed to prove she was Rwandan by birth. She once held Belgian citizenship but surrendered that in 2017 before her last bid to become a candidate. But Ms Rwigara has told the BBC that she was born in Rwanda and dismissed all the other grounds for the rejection of her candidacy. A total of nine applications to stand for president were received by Rwanda's National Electoral Commission. Their final list will be announced next Friday as it still considering appeals lodged earlier in the process – though at this stage it is too late for the PSM leader to appeal.
In 2017 she was barred following accusations of forging the signatures of supporters for her application.
Ms Rwigara was imprisoned for more than a year but acquitted in 2018 over charges of inciting insurrection and forgery. She said the charges were politically motivated. In March, a Rwandan court blocked efforts by prominent opposition figure Victoire Ingabire to lift a ban on her running in the presidential election.
She was freed in 2018 after spending eight years in prison for threatening state security and "belittling" the 1994 genocide. In Rwanda, people who have been jailed for more than six months are barred from running in elections.
The two cleared candidates - Mr Habineza and Mr Mpayimana - were also the only candidates approved to stand against Mr Kagame in the 2017 election.
Mr Kagame is running for a fourth term, which could extend his presidency to nearly three decades should he win. He won the last presidential election in 2017 with nearly 99% of the vote. The 66-year-old president has faced criticism from rights groups for cracking down on the opposition.
But he has always fiercely defended Rwanda's record on human rights, saying his country respects political freedoms

Also, Adefemi Emmanuel forfeited one grey coloured Lexus RX 300 vehicle with registration number: LND – 940 – CD with Chassis number: JT6HF1042YO11941, Abiodun forfeited a brown Mercedes Benz with Chassis number: WDC0G4K9GF102450, while Ishola forfeited a grey colour Toyota Highlander with registration number: RSH – 857 – CV.

Ex-Ghana international Nii Odartey Lamptey has revealed that he contemplated using his gun after he found out that the three children he raised with his ex-wife were not his biological kids.
The former Anderlecht and Aston Villa forward said he had his gun in his car at that moment but decided against taking any drastic action after reflecting on his future.
The matter resulted in the collapse of their 20-year marriage, but disagreements between the couple over the compensation to Miss Appiah led to a protracted legal tussle.

In 2017, the Accra High Court ordered Miss Appiah to vacate her ex-husband’s seven-bedroom apartment and instructed Odartey Lamptey to settle her with his four-bedroom house at Dome in addition to a car and an amount of Ghc200,000.
Opening up on his reaction when he found out he wasn’t the father of the three children he had raised, Odartey Lamptey said he nearly took a decision that could’ve landed him in jail.
Yeah, I took that decision [to pull a gun], but God spoke to me and since then I haven’t touched my gun. The gun was in my Tundra, but I decided I would not do anything,” he told Dan Kwaku Yeboah TV.
“I was broken, but I was very patient about it, and that has led me to where I am today. I believe it was God who spoke to me, and so I decided not to use my gun. It used to be in my Tundra, but I decided not to touch the gun again.
“I had to control my anger, otherwise I could’ve been in prison by now. And I wouldn’t have been able to have my three children. So sometimes when you get angry, you have to think twice before taking action.”

also, just like humans, sometimes, these animals dont want to be bothered, are in a bad mood or are injured, and that would make them not want to be messed with (as before). these pet animals are unpredictable as seen below:

MrBrownJay1: captive lions like the above are just as dangerous as a sheep... the above are no more LIONS per se, these are now technically sheep! and then, one day, that lion will hopefully look at himself in the mirror and realize that they have been acting as sheep all their lives while being LIONS, and thereafter kill their handler.
even some of the most successful/famous exotic animal handlers on earth have had a brush with death dealing with wild lions/tigers... ask the famous Siegfried & Roy and/or Joe exotic. these are wild animals that you can never tame... so as much as they are now acting like sheep, someday that wild beast is gonna emerge.
Yeah, big cats are unpredictable, any little mistake and you are gone.
But number one rule is to always ensure they don't go hungry

Bonding takes time. If you approach an animal that has never met you before, they may treat you as a potential enemy. They won't be bonded to you, and that is why they may attack you.
