Israel don't have the capacity to engage Iran in a full blown war alone. They need the support of US & it's allies. The distance between the two countries is huge. A major war between the two countries is going to be too expensive for Israel. Israel will want to go for a quick victory. So they need US & it's allies to place necessary sanctions on Iran, to make sure Iran is unable to buy arms or sell its oil.

They also need the assurance of the US & allies to come thier rescue if the war does not go as planned.

If US don't give the green light. Israel will not attack.

Israel is not a super power. The countries that are called superpowers have the capacity to wage war in large scale and on multiple fronts for years. They have the oil reserve, financial capacity, military equipment local production capacity, Nuclear weapon first & second strike capabilities & other element of surprise to do that.

The high military tech Israel feels it has will fade if it engages a country that won't accept defeat or has the ability to kill thousands in Israel.
