Taylor Swift has said she will vote for Kamala Harris in the US election, prompting a strong response from Donald Trump who claims she'll "probably pay a price for it".

The singer's Instagram post showed her holding her cat Benjamin Button - a reference to Mr Trump's running mate JD Vance's "childless cat lady" comments.

Swift urged her 283 million followers to "do your research" - but said AI-generated images of her supporting Mr Trump made her realise "I need to be very transparent about my actual plans".


"I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election," she said. "I'm voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.

"I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.

"I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate Tim Walz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman's right to her own body for decades."

What I don’t understand is why the numbers are even like this. If Trump should be getting any votes at all on anything whether it be at the polls, in the election or assessment of debate performance, he shouldn’t be getting up to 20% of any votes.

It shows that a good percentage of the people still can’t be swayed by reason, logic or evidence. I know Kamala will win without a doubt but it’s a scary number of people still voting in favor of this man despite how deplorable he is. Scary

Three men in South Africa are accused of killing two women and feeding their bodies to pigs, sparking public outrage.

The accused, farm owner Zachariah Johannes Olivier, supervisor Andrian Rudolph de Wet, and employee William Musora appeared in court in Limpopo, facing charges of premeditated murder, attempted murder, and illegal firearm possession.

Musora, a Zimbabwean national, also faces immigration charges. The incident occurred in August when the women, Locadia Ndlovu and Maria Makgatho, allegedly trespassed on Olivier's farm to collect potentially expired goods. They were shot and killed, and their bodies were found decomposed in a pigsty.

A man with them survived and alerted police

The death toll from a petrol tanker explosion after a head-on collision with another articulated vehicle has risen to 59.

The incident happened on Sunday along Lapai-Agaie, 2km from Dendo Community in Agaie LGA, Niger State when the petrol tanker was involved in a head-on collision with another trailer transporting over 60 people and 50 cows from Kano to Lagos.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency, Director General, Abdullahi Baba-Arab, made this known on Monday in a statement.

Baba-Arab said more dead bodies may be discovered in the process of continued evacuation.

“The death toll has risen to 59. We lost one of the injured with first-degree burns at the Federal Medical Centre Bida.

“Two locals were taken to a village nearby for burial, and the rest was discovered during evacuation. It’s also possible that more dead bodies could be discovered in the process of the continued evacuation,” Baba-Arab stated.


The Niger State Federal Road Safety Commission, sector commander, Kumar Tsukwam, in his remark on Monday, said the petrol tanker which was coming from Lagos was at high speed and lost brake when the accident occurred.

“The tanker from Lagos on transit to Kano loaded with Fuel was on top speed, lost control, fell down and engulfed with fire. Another trailer that conveyed cows and humans was consequently affected and two other vehicles were behind. All the 4 vehicles got burnt to ashes.

“It was gathered that the trailer that conveyed humans and cows was alerted by one of his passengers of the fire at their front but in response, the driver said it was just a mere tyre that was burning.

“On reaching the engulfed tanker immediately the trailer was also engulfed and consequently the two other vehicles were engulfed leading to the death of 35 persons instantly and two others injured died at the hospital totalled 37,” he said.

During a phone call with PUNCH on Monday, Tsukwam who spoke said all the dead cows were burnt. He disclosed that when the FRSC team got to the scene they found some people who were already cutting the legs of two of the cows to sell.

He said, “The cows were burnt. There were two of the cows that were cutting the legs, you know these marabou they were already cutting the legs so, it was advised that all the cows be burnt. To avoid another epidemic there. The marabouts wanted to take them and start selling.”

The family of Umar Faruq Abubakar, a 31-year-old computer engineer, have been shaken by his mysterious disappearance.

This has prompted the family to issue a public appeal for assistance.

Faruq embarked on a journey from Abuja to Ilorin on August 28, 2024, but his subsequent whereabouts remain unknown.

The family members have taken to releasing a public notice on Sunday, desperately seeking the public's aid in locating their beloved relative.

In a bid to encourage information sharing, they have offered a cash reward to anyone who can provide leads regarding Faruq's disappearance.

"Umar Faruk Abubakar left from Abuja to Ilorin on Wednesday August 28, 2024. He has not been reachable since. Anyone with useful information should pls contact 08136570994, 09061429206 or report to the nearest police station. Cash reward awaits the person," the notice reads.

A member of the family who spoke with SaharaReporters on Sunday said the last time he spoke to Faruk was on August 26, two days before he went missing.

The family member said, "Faruk left Abuja for Ilorin on the 28th of August 2024. I last spoke with him on August 26th and he was in Abuja at that time. He told me he was waiting for our cousin whom he went to visit to give him transport fare so he could leave.

"On August 28, it was confirmed by the cousin and the boy that works at the farm that he was given money and taken to the bus stop to get a vehicle to the park and leave for Ilorin.

"We haven't heard from him since then; all his numbers are switched off and he has been offline on all social networks. We have reported the case at a police station in Federal Capital Territory.”

"Faruk who is from Ilorin, Kwara State speaks Yoruba, English and Hausa fluently," the family member added.

The designer of the Nigerian flag, Pa Taiwo Akinkunmi, has been laid to rest after a year-long wait for a promised state funeral.

Akinkunmi, who passed away at 87, was celebrated for his iconic contribution to the nation.

His funeral service, organised by the Oyo State government, was held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan, attended by a large gathering of mourners, including family, friends, and government officials.

The funeral service was conducted by ministers from the Gospel Faith Mission International.

Akinkunmi, fondly known as “Mr. Flag Man,” designed the Nigerian flag in 1958 and received a £100 award for his chosen design.

Rebecca Cheptegei, a Ugandan marathon runner who competed in the Paris Olympics last month, has died days after she was burned by her boyfriend, the country’s athletics federation confirmed on X Thursday


Cheptegei, 33, who lived in Kenya, had been in a critical condition after suffering burns on 75% of her body following Sunday’s attack at her house in the western Trans Nzoia County. Her death was also confirmed on X by the Kenyan Olympic Team.

Trans Nzoia County police commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom said earlier this week that the athlete had been doused in petrol by her boyfriend, Dickson Ndiema, who stormed her house with a jerry can of gasoline and set fire to her after a disagreement over land. Ndiema, who was also burned, is being treated at a hospital in the city of Eldoret.
