The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State has been declared winner of the election conducted in all 23 Local Government Areas of the state.

Chairman of the State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), Richard Tombowua, announced the results of the election at exactly 9:16am, on Sunday.

Tombowua also declared the APC winner of all councillorship seats in 276 council wards across the state, leaving none for other parties.

He said although a total of eight political parties participated in the exercise, only five were active.

They are All Progressives Congress (APC), Action Alliance Congress (AAC), Labour Party (LP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

However, the BSIEC followed directives from the parties’ apex leadership in accepting the lists of candidates who participated in the polls.

The BSIEC chairman praised the conduct of the elections, saying it was free, fair and credible without any issues.

He added that it was the best ever local government exercise carried out in the history of the state.

Tombowua asked the winners should come to the commission’s headquarters at 2pm on Sunday for their certificate of return.

The Nigerian government on Friday said it has commenced arrangement for evacuation of Nigerians living in Lebanon who are willing to return home following the escalating war with Israel in the country.

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) which made this known in a statement said that following the government’s decision to evacuate its citizens in Lebanon, a multi-stakeholders meeting was convened where briefs were received on the condition of Nigerians in Lebanon and preparations by various agencies towards the success of the evacuation exercise.

The statement said, “The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is coordinating the evacuation, which has started with mobilization of the citizens and would be followed immediately with all necessary requirement to bring them home.

“The leader of the Nigerian community, through a telephone conversation acknowledged the support by the Nigerian Mission in Lebanon especially in their safe movement out of high risk areas, adding that no Nigerian life has been lost so far.

“In view of the planned voluntary evacuation, those Nigerians willing to be evacuated back home are advised to report to the Embassy in Beirut where they will be profiled for the airlift.”

Following the burning down of the study centre of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), at Eze Oke Nsu in Ehime Mbano Council Area of Imo State, the police comand has announced that it has made arrests.

This was communicated by the Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Henry Okoye, who disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri.

“I am pleased to announce that over eight suspects have been arrested in connection with the arson incidents in Ehime Mbano. Investigations are ongoing. More details will be communicated in due course.” he stated.

A video clip circulating showed Ibezim's house gutted by fire with a voice in the background lamenting the level of destruction.

The former lawmaker was recently accused of attracting a refugees and Internally Displaced Persons Camp for Fulani at the National Open University campus in Nsu in the Ehime Mbano LGA, a claim he had publicly denied.

Ibezim in a statement he personally issued had said, "I am compelled by our joint sense of purpose and commitment to address some misinformation arising from the TVC news coverage of my recent visit to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Nsu Study Centre.

"I was accompanied by the Federal Commissioner for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.

"First, I must clarify that the video of refugees attached to the TVC broadcast, which has caused understandable anxiety, was not filmed in Imo State. The insinuation that there is intent to settle IDPs, refugees, or migrant persons at the NOUN Nsu Centre is entirely false."
