Politics / SIM Card: Man Sues Buhari’s Daughter, DSS, Demands N500m by godlyguy(m): 8:02am On Jan 14, 2020
A trader, Anthony Okolie, who was arrested by the Department of State Services and detained for 10 weeks, has sued the DSS for N500m.

Okolie, in a suit filed before the Federal High Court in Asaba, Delta State, by his lawyer, Tope Akinyode, also demanded N500m from Hanan Buhari, the daughter of the President, Major General Muhammadu (retd.), as well as a telecommunications company, MTN.

The suit, with number FHC/ASB/CS/3/2020, is seeking an order to “compel the respondents (DSS, Hanan and MTN) jointly or severally to pay the applicant the sum of N500,000,000 only as general and aggravated damages for the gross and unlawful violation of the applicant’s right to acquire moveable properties, freedom of movement and self dignity.”

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) says Hanan Buhari, a daughter of President Muhammadu Buhari, flying on a presidential jet on an ”official” assignment is a strong message to the youth.

There was outrage at weekend when pictures of Hanan disembarking from a presidential jet surfaced online.

She was invited to the durbar by Rilwanu Adamu, emir of Bauchi, on Thursday. Hanan, a photographer, was expected to document the event and other tourist attractions in the state.

In a statement on Monday, Ishaq Akintola, MURIC director, said Hanan passed a strong message to the Nigerian girl-child by covering the durbar.

“How private is private? Are we saying that the traditional institution is inconsequential? What happened to our respect for our norms and values? Are we to assume that our system no longer recognises the traditional institution? If so, why do governors still appoint emirs, obis and obas? If the law of the land still recognises traditional rulers, Hanan’s invitation to Bauchi cannot be rightly described as a private affair,” Akintola said.

“Besides, that function passed a strong message to Nigerian youths, especially the Nigerian girl-child. It poses a challenge to them to eschew laziness.

“More importantly, it underlines the significance and relevance of every aspect of human knowledge. This is a very important message wailers missed.”

The MURIC director said those who described Hanan’s visit to Bauchi as private are “petty, mean and most uncharitable”.

“President Buhari should not be guillotined for permitting her daughter’s use of the jet. Afterall, it was not for any frivolous jamboree like shopping in Dubai. We may want to ignore the excesses of past landlords of Aso Rock to justify PMB’s action,” he said.

“It amounts to overzealouness on the part of critics to grab every little straw and make mountains out of mole hills.

“They are simply trying to draw the attention of Nigerians away from PMB’s monumental achievements simply because they were merely looking for the president’s faults.”

Akintola appealed to politicians to “change from politics of negativity, retardation and destruction to positivism, patriotism and constructive engagement”.

The attraction for me is the restructuring......

The loan repayment is not only due to right money, the South Africa operation has been spun off which gave them the opportunity to excise about 140b third party foreign loan from their books...

A reduction of about 200b from 266b in a space of 9months is not moimoin and call for excitement! grin

The reduction in revenue is mainly due to the exclusion of SA operation which is a blessing in disguise. You will notice that despite the drop in revenue there is an increase in profit which signifies efficiency and that is positive....

The eps is good compared to others in the sector when you calculate the p.e from operational profits. If you now factor in the profits made from spinning off of the SA operation, that is a bomb grin grin

Also check the equity for 2018 and September 2019, that has also increased significantly grin grin

They still have some hurdles to cross but I want to believe they are on the right path..
Most of the loans in their books are now the cheap ones and can easily be managed.

Note; the SA operation has always been a drag on Larfarge since that marriage was made and it was a misadventure.

The latest report regarding the world’s most powerful International Passport places the Nigerian passport at 95.

According to the list put together by Henley Passport Index which occasionally curates a list of the world’s most travel-friendly passports, Nigeria is just above countries like Djibouti, South Sudan, and other war-torn countries in the middle-east.

In the recently published report, the Japanese passport is the most powerful in the world, as it avails those who possess it visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to about 191 destinations around the world.

The list also shows another Asian country – Singapore sitting in second place, with other European countries trailing right behind.

Health / Re: Lagos Govt, Jehovah’s Witnesses Clash Over Blood Transfusion For Baby (PHOTOS) by godlyguy(m): 9:56am On Jan 08, 2020

megawealth01:
The Lagos State Government has rescued a 14-day-old baby girl after her parents refused to allow her have blood transfusion, citing religious beliefs.

The state government, through the Office of the Public Defender, was said to have applied for a court order under the Child Rights Law.

After a clash with members of the Jehovah Witness who had mobilised to resist the rescue of the baby, the little girl was eventually taken to the hospital where the blood transfusion was done.

The Head of Public Affairs, OPD, Mahmud Hassan, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.
He noted that the child was born prematurely at a private hospital in Surulere to the family of one Mr Emmanuel Onokpise of Abata Close, Orile-Iganmu.
Hassan said the baby was discovered to be “severely jaundiced” and was recommended for blood transfusion to survive.

“However, the parents of the girl, who are Jehovah’s Witnesses and on medical insurance, vehemently opposed the blood transfusion for the baby, citing religious beliefs and contrary to medical advice, decided to discharge the baby and took her home.
“The critical health condition of the baby and the defiant position of her parents persuaded a spirited member of the public to inform the OPD to save the child from untimely death.

“The agency swung into action immediately, got the relevant court order by invoking the relevant sections of the Lagos Child Rights Law of 2015 and the Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy of 2016. In collaboration with the Nigeria Police, Adeniji-Adele and Orile stations, the baby was eventually taken from the parents’ home after stiff resistance from other mobilised members of the Jehovah Witness on December 30, 2019. The baby was taken to the Massey Street Children Hospital,” he added.

The OPD official said the baby, who weighed 2.2 kilogrammes at birth, weighed less than 1.7kg after being kept at home for one week and five days.
The Director of the OPD, Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi, during a visit to the baby, said no responsible government would allow any parent act ignorantly on religious grounds in a way that would be injurious to the life of any other person, especially children.
She said, “The current administration will not spare any effort in protecting the rights of women, children, the vulnerable and indigent residents of the state, irrespective of gender and religion.”

Adeyemi urged members of the public to take advantage of the agency’s free legal services to get redress, protection and enforcement of their rights.

The director also asked residents to furnish the OPD with information on where human rights were being abused so the agency could take legal action.

She said the rescued baby was enjoying free medical treatment in line with the current administration’s policy of free and qualitative medical services for residents.
The Jehovah’s Witness could not be reached for comment as their official line said they had closed for the day.

Politics / Newly Appointed Iranian Army Chief Linked To Illegal Arms Shipment To Nigeria by godlyguy(m): 9:32pm On Jan 03, 2020
In the aftermath of the assassination of Qassem Souleimani who was the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' Quds Force(IRGC), Esmail Ghaani has been appointed as his replacement by Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Before this appointment, Ghaani was Deputy Commander of the Quds Force for thirteen years and part of his work was reported to included overseeing the financial disbursements to paramilitary groups like Hezbollah.

But what should concern Nigerians is that Esmail Ghaani was implicated in a mysterious arms shipment scandal that took place in Lagos, Nigeria in 2010.

A lot of us have forgotten but on October 10th, 2010, the Nigerian Customs and the Nigerian Army intercepted an arms shipment supposedly intended for Gambia at the Apapa Port in Lagos.

The weapons in thirteen containers and were shown to journalists in Lagos. Rocket Launchers, Grenades and 107mm rockets designed to attack static targets and used by armies to support infantry units were some of the weapons found in the shipment.

Security experts say they had also been used by groups including the Taliban in Afghanistan and Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Matthew Idakwo was the Nigerian prosecutor in charge of the investigation and he said "This is a matter of great national importance, and if I may add, it has international implications. These arms were imported from Iran to our country. It is of great interest to the world."

The shipment was done by the French-based shipping group CMA CGM who said that it had been the victim of a false cargo declaration and that the weapons and ammunition were in sealed containers which had been declared as "packages of glass wool and pallets of stone."

Iran is under UN sanctions because of its nuclear program and is banned Iran from supplying, selling or transferring arms.

An Iranian national by the name of Azim Aghajani was arrested by the Nigerian security forces and charged over the situation.

Court documents reportedly identified him as a Tehran businessman, and also a member of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

Published reports by the US Treasury on the issue said that Esmail Ghani's authority covered IRGC-QF financial disbursements to IRGC-QF elements, including elements in Africa, as well as to various terrorist groups, including Hizballah. As Deputy Commander, Ghani had financial oversight of the IRGC-QF weapons shipment that was intended for The Gambia.

Three Nigerians were also charged in connection with the shipment, which included rockets and grenades hidden among building materials.

The court said Mr. Aghajani had been charged with attempting to import prohibited arms into Nigeria and conspiring to send the illegal shipment to Gambia.

Israeli media reports, citing Israeli defense officials, have suggested the weapons may have been destined for Hamas Islamists in Gaza and that a new smuggling route was being tested. Israel's foreign ministry declined to comment.

Eventually, A Nigerian court sentenced Azim Aghajani the alleged member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard and his Nigerian accomplice to five years in prison on Monday over an illegal shipment of mortars and rockets.

In the aftermath of the judgment, US Treasury Reports said this was proof of "Iran’s malign influence in the Middle East, Africa and beyond. As the Iranian regime exports its lethal aid and expertise to foment violence in Syria and Africa, Treasury will continue to expose the officials and companies involved and work to hold them accountable for the suffering they cause,” said Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence David S. Cohen.

Ali Abbas Usman Jega was the Nigerian accomplice who acted as the local shipping agent in Nigeria, supporting the IRGC-QF in importing the arms shipment. Jega facilitated the entry of IRGC-QF personnel into Nigeria.

Today Esmail Ghaani sits as the leading figure in the Iranian Military Establishment.

Nigeria must look deeply at the occurrences in our space since the period when these shipments were being made and ask itself what our security situation is really about.

Religion / Re: There Is Nothing Like ‘money Rituals’ by godlyguy(m): 11:38am On Jan 02, 2020
....
megawealth01:

Then, there is the media that uncritically reports stories of “money rituals” to a credulous audience. I raised the issue of the role played by the media in promoting these falsities years ago when I wrote on the discovery of the ritualists’ den in Soka, Ibadan. While reporters regaled us with tales of the horrors that uncovered in that location, there was no in-depth investigation into what actually went down in that place. Various reports of Soka “house of horror” took it for granted that actual money ritual activities happened, and that the victims were being used to generate currencies. The reality could just be organ harvesting by traffickers, but we do not know. And some other stories we hear —such as women’s underwear being used for money rituals— are just urban myths that got taken too seriously by perverts and the gullible who started raiding everywhere for panties.

It is hard for an average European to believe in money rituals in the same way as Africans. That is not because they are above superstitions —no society in the world is immune to them— but because they run a society where, over time, they have established a logical connection between the factors of production, money, and politics. Their social mechanisms are systematised, and because productivity and money typically go together in their daily experience, the belief in money conjuration will hardly find a landing place in their imagination. In African societies where we are far more of consumers than producers, we attach mysticism to money because wealth generation in our culture is mostly based on an extractive economy —we disembowel the earth for resources we can sell— and the corruption that naturally follows such exchange. The fantasy that some spirits can somehow bring money is spun by those trying to find their way out of the disorganisation that characterises life and the shrinkage of opportunities for upward mobility.

Those who claim they can generate money for people through rituals, and who demand human lives for that purpose, do so for various reasons. One, they want to build a powerful reputation in the minds of people. If they succeed, it pays off in other ways. By asking for their clients to procure human body parts, they seduce them into believing they have access to supernatural forces, and that power is so potent that it requires human life to access. Rituals that supposedly produce money or political power do not work based on any such telepathic connections. Instead, its spectacular effect manipulates people’s beliefs and obliges them to take certain courses of action. Two, some of those who ask for a human to be sacrificed are, in reality, psychopaths who want to carry out their sick fantasies on unsuspecting victims. They not only exploit the gullibility and desperation of their clients, but they also use them to bring friends and relatives to them. Three, they are abusing foundational beliefs. The superstitions about money rituals and the sacrificial victims required have traceable links to our African past. However, because they have never clearly understood why our ancestors found those beliefs expedient for their time, those histories become exploitable. In different parts of Africa, hunchbacks, albinos, and even bald men regularly fall victim to the enterprise of money rituals.

We should challenge these myths of money rituals and save our lives from the machinations of evil imaginations. From Nigeria to Tanzania to Malawi to Mozambique, poor people are being hunted down. These predators who want to do money rituals need to be educated out of their wits that have been addled by poverty and ignorance. Those who want to enjoy the nicer things of life but find themselves forever incommoded by crushing poverty need to learn that their poverty is political and therefore, cannot be magically resolved. We are the poorest continent in the world because of politics, and our redemption will not come through either magic or miracles but in reformative policies. We should raise our voices and shout this loud enough so that more people do not become unfortunate victims.

The Zamfara Hisba Commission has arrested a police officer and three women for allegedly engaging in social vices at a hotel in Gusau.

The chairman of the commission, Atiku Zawuyya stated this while parading the suspects at the commission’s headquarters on Monday.

He said the police officer who is serving with the Central Police Station, Gusau was arrested with the three girls in a room at the hotel, allegedly committing acts contrary to Sharia law.

Zawuyya said preliminary investigation conducted by the commission showed that one of the three girls was from Kaduna state while the two others were from the same family in Zamfara.

The chairman said the commission had warned the management of the hotel several times against harbouring such people but failed to comply with the rules and regulations guiding the operation of hotel business in the state.

Family / Man Is Suing His Parents For Giving Birth To Him Without Consent (PHOTO) by godlyguy(m): 3:21pm On Dec 30, 2019
We've all been mad at our parents at some point in our lives.

However, one 27-year-old guy has taken it to another level. Seriously

Raphael Samuel is planning to take his parents to court for bringing him into this world without his consent . He holds a belief called anti-natalism which is that humans are considered a destructive force to the earth and it’s wrong to reproduce, especially if the child did not agree to be born.

He wants others to know that there are clearly two options when deciding to have kids, either you do or you don’t. Hence, we should ask our parents for an explanation as to why they thought giving birth to us was a good idea.

He also runs a Facebook page where he routinely posts anti-procreation messages like “Isn’t forcing a child into this world and forcing it to have a career, kidnapping, and slavery?” or “Your parents had you instead of a toy or a dog, you owe them nothing, you are their entertainment." No word on how potential parents would obtain consent to begin with...but hey, everyone's got their thing...

Do you think he's got a point or he is just another wacko?

megawealth01:
President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to Nigerians not to let terrorists divide the country along religious lines, following execution of some Christians and Muslims by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).

The president made the call in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Friday.

Buhari, who was reacting to the reported execution of some innocent citizens, said: “I am profoundly saddened and shocked by the death of innocent hostages in the hands of remorseless, godless, callous gangs of mass murderers that have given Islam a bad name through their atrocities.

“We should, under no circumstance, let the terrorists divide us by turning Christians against Muslims because these barbaric killers don’t represent Islam and millions of other law-abiding Muslims around the world.

“As a President, the collective security of all Nigerians is my major preoccupation and the death of an innocent Christian or Muslim distresses me.’’

Buhari said the terrorists had no clearly defined agenda except the pursuit of evil through indiscriminate murder of innocent people, contrary to the teachings of Islam, which prohibits massacre.

According to him, no true Muslim will be shouting ‘Allahu Akbar’ while killing innocent people, an evil frequently condemned by the Holy Qur’an.

“These agents of darkness are enemies of our common humanity and they don’t spare any victim, whether they are Muslims or Christians, and therefore, we shouldn’t let them divide us and turn us against one another.

“The goal of these psychopaths is to cause confusion and spread distrust between Muslims and Christians, despite the fact that they aren’t representing the interest of Muslims or Islam.

“While I condemn this evil, I wish to reassure Nigerians that this administration will not lower its guards in the war against terrorism, and we will continue to intensify our efforts towards strengthening international cooperation and collaboration to break the backbone of these evil doers,’’ the president stressed.

Buhari called on all Nigerians to be united against terrorists and avoid unhelpful conspiracy theories that serve the interest of Boko Haram terrorists and ISWAP.
