A letter, with reference number NIMC/P/HQ/14662/52, and dated December 9, 2019, addressed by the NIMC management to one of the dismissed workers, who was a senior officer, explained that the termination of appointment took effect from December 11, 2019.

The officer was dismissed after investigations and deliberations by the NIMC Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee, which had earlier invited him on October 24, 2019, over allegations of extortion and illegal printing of the NIN.

The committee said the officer’s actions breached the security and integrity of the NIMC, and therefore directed him to hand over all official property in his possession, including ID card, to the Federal Capital Territory coordinator.

In the letter, which was seen by our correspondent, the dismissed officer was informed that he was not entitled to any compensation from the commission as the termination of appointment bordered on serious misconduct.

Checks by our correspondent also revealed that besides the senior officer dismissed in the commission’s FCT office, some other NIMC workers were also sacked for engaging in extortion and bribery.

An internal memo, dated December 12, 2019, which was addressed to all regional and state coordinators, cluster heads and Enrolment/Registration Centre supervisors, disclosed that two officers in Lagos State, and an Assistant Manager in Kogi State, were also dismissed.

The memo, with the heading, ‘The menace of extortion to the corporate image of NIMC’, directed the supervisors and heads of units to “improve their supervisory roles” and constantly remind the members of staff under their stewardship” of the gravity of the punishment to be meted to any of the staff members involved in any form or shape of extortion.”

The Governor of Edo State yesterday at State House issue a stern cautious statement to Oshiomole and his camp as regarding the progress of Edo State and the APC in the state... Below are his statement:

“Can you imagine a national chairman that is creating problems in his own house? Because of that, we had to suspend him and he remains suspended. We pray that God should have mercy on him because he has done something bad against God and the people of Edo State. He should find his way back into the party and apologise to all.

“If he comes back remorseful and apologetic, we will consider taking him back.”

“If you cannot be a disciplined member of the party, you will leave, whether you are a national chairman or not,” he stated.

“He cancelled the primaries that were done by the party at the state level for the 2019 general elections and did his own. Because he could not control us at the executive, he manipulated the legislature so that he can use the House of Assembly to impeach us.”

“Oshiomhole thought he was setting a trap when he chose Philip Shaibu as my deputy and Osarodion Ogie as Secretary to the State Government (SSG). He thought we will always quarrel, fight and then run to him for settlement.”

A mild but funny drama played out on Thursday at Eko Hotel In Victoria Island between two of Nigeria’s giants in the Music industry, Davido and Olamide at Kizz Daniels concert. Both artistes were invited to perform at the event when Davido walked past Olamide, oblivious of his presence.

YBNL boss, Olamide had just finished performing on stage and he was making way out of the hotel when the DMW boss and his gang arrived. The indigenous rapper called out to the singer immediately after he sighted him but the latter didn’t even respond.

Olamide ran after the ‘Risky crooner’, holding his shirt to make him stop which he eventually did. At the end, both artistes exchanged hugs and chatted for a while.

Governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki, has said the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, is no longer a member of the ruling party.

According to Obaseki, President Muhammadu Buhari, had also directed the Edo State chapter of the party to deal with the pro-Oshiomhole Edo Progressive Movement and the former Governor for anti-party activity.

The Governor was quoted to have said this at a rally of the APC members from the Owan East and West Local Government Areas in Sabogida-Ora earlier, yesterday.
