U1: I didn't think the ban was total; just restriction on spending limit. But since I have not used my card for online transaction recently, maybe you should try to see if the ban is total and let others know. You should be ready to pay parallel market rate (around N300) if that works, though.
But if you have previously used your Payoneer account for transactions and need no more than $150, you can get in touch with me. $1 - N240. Ok, thanks. |
Business › Loading Of Payoneer Card In Nigeria... How Possible? by godownson(op): 7:10am On Jan 27, 2016 |
Hello everyone, Please I would like to load funds into my payoneer card from my nigerian debit card. However I would like to know how possible it is since the federal government ban on money transfer outside Nigeria. Payoneer is an international MasterCard so I would like to know if the current ban did affect it. Has anyone tried loading a payoneer card recently?... And if yes, then from which bank/card?. Thanks. |

TokyoBulls: By law, you are required to carry the cash because there is no way immigration will be able to ascertain that there is money on your debit or credit card. If you have up to $500 or its equivalent in rands, I believe you'll be fine. I have visited SA 4 times in the last one year and I always prefer to change Naira to Rands at the aiport and back to Naira when I return. Converting from Naira to Dollars and then Dollars to Rands and doing same on return will make you lose money. Withdrawals from ATMs in SA will also make you lose money to taxes and HEAVY bank charges. Great idea. Thanks bro. |

yinksob002: From experience, i can tell you that first timers to SA are sometimes subjected to harassment by immigration officials in Naija just to make u settle them with some cash. Hence, i will advise that you still hold some cash in addition to the debit card just to avoid their wahala and be very confident & smart. However, you will not be subjected to any form of harassment in SA provided you have a valid hotel booking or other arrangements for accommodation. All the best Very insightful. Thanks. |

TokyoBulls: Ticket depends on the airline but it's usually around N120,000. You can use South African Airways, Arik or Kenyan Airways (connecting flight through Nairobi), but from experience, the best is SAA. BTA is about $500 (or equivalent in ZAR) but most times the immigration guys do not ask. Do you mean naija immigration or south african immigration?. What if a traveler decides to carry a debit card with enough funds in it instead of cash (as BTA), will the immigration be okay with that?. |

ladywriter: No, you are wrong @godowson. The use of the word "cruel" in this statement (really cruel knowing the importance of a review to a beginner) really got to me and I think I deserve an apology for that. I have not done anything to you to deserve the use of that weighty word on my personality. 11:46am On Apr 25 hello, i did send you a mail (ifeanyi). please reply soonest. Thanks. 4:16am On Apr 26 @ladywriter, please show up ma'am. sent you a mail since yesterday but no response yet... patiently waiting. hope you're alright though. These (the above) were my previous posts to you before the ‘controversial post’. Note the use of the word ‘please in’ both posts, conoting humulity. In the second post, i stress to show that it was urgent and asked about your wellbeing but still not even an acknowledgement from you. I still waited for an extra four days (meanwhile you were coming online all along), still no response of any sort. Then i pour out my frustration and you reply with this in your post “I don't have any obligation towards anybody in replying to posts here...”... Like i was bugging you for some free help. That was insulting to me. You demand an apology?. I can respect you but i can’t ‘worship’ you. If the deal is valid, you say so and i’ll send you a mail with regards to the job. if the deal is invalid, also say so and i’ll count it off. I don’t boot-lick people. |

ladywriter: Hi @godowson, I don't think it is right to accuse me this way. First and foremost, I did not see your mail. Secondly, I don't have any obligation towards anybody in replying to posts here. I do it because I love helping people and God granted me the grace to do so. You don't know what I am going through, neither did you care to find out. Making conclusions on people's personality is very wrong. I am a Nigerian, married to a Pastor and on a mission field in Ghana. I do mission work in addition to freelancing. Throughout last week, we had missionaries from Kenya, which i had to take care of, and still attend to urgent projects online. I even had to sublet projects to people here, because I couldn't combine it with my schedules. I am not a superhuman, you know. I have given reviews to people who did not even purchase anything or partake in my courses. Why would I ignore your mail? If I am cruel, i wouldn't be here sharing my knowledge. Please choose your words carefully the next time you want to post. You can resend your mail. i understand your point madam and i understand the hurdles of combining jobs in a foreign country. similar to your case, i am a nigerian working in south africa. its true that you owe no one any obligations to reply here, i was only agitating for at least an acknowledgement to my posts. i'll speak for myself: my case was/is different (except you say our deal is void)... and i did respond in that manner on the assumption that you got my mail (as gmail's delivery system said 'message sent') and seeing that you did come online. so looking at things from both perspectives, there is no right or wrong party. i'll send you a mail. |

please, everyone should shove their sermons in their pockets. i am not boot licking anyone, i am only asking ladywriter to fulfill her part of a deal we had. its business (except she says its void), so its not like i was buzzing for some free help. before my 'controversial' post, i did post here a few times to check on her and sent a mail (apparently, she says she didn't get it) and then waited for 5 days (while my standard membership plan was running out)... and from nairaland time records, she used to come online.
@nelton: abeg, hold yourself and stop vomiting nonsense. 'i'm lucky, she's not obligated to me.... bla bla bla'. what kinda psych you got?. Nigerians make me sick sometimes. @chidinho10: 'Your statement may affect us all....' ... i had to laugh. man is not God bro. @tranxo: you sound reasonable, however you don't understand the full story. actually, i wasn't buzzing for free help. i understand that she's busy but so am i too. i registered since January but never got the time to begin due to work. i was only pushed due to the xenophobic heat against foreigners (especially Nigerians) here is south africa. |
Travel › Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by godownson: 1:36am On May 01, 2015 |
sultan003: First, your brother should have checked the checklist/requirements for a visitors visa, because he missed two important requirements a) letter of self introduction and b) Letter of introduction/recommendation from employee or university. Now if he was self-employed/unemployed and not a student, requirement A would have been enough but........ The way i see it, its all about luck from here, maybe the adjudicator will over look the missing letters and approve it(being invited by a responsible and well to do SA citizen might help) otherwise he should get ready to resubmit again with the appropriate documents.
Secondly, this period is not a good period to go to the embassy to beg for them to allow you to submit the documents you missed, because of the diplomatic wahala and all. You just gave them an excuse to reject your applications easily. Am not sure VFS can help, because they usually send all applications to the high commission at the end of the business day, try your luck though. ok bro, thanks a lot. i'll just hope n see how it turns out. |

@ladywriter: i am disappointed that you would come online and wouldn't even reply the posts from folks who wrote to you. even if you're extremely busy, at least acknowledging the posts (saying you're busy) is something. plus i sent a mail and no reply, its been over 5 days now (really cruel knowing the importance of a review to a beginner). if the 'first job' package is now invalid, then just say so and i'll move on, instead of ignoring my mail. its not the end of the world, God dey. |

TYPOP: Can re-apply immediately with the appropriate documents included and letter indicating the initial reason and that the documents are now added.
If he's a student, make sure the period you indicate for visit falls within the school holidays as if he puts school period, they MAY refuse to grant him based on that. Get the calendar information right pls.
Cheers. ok bro, thanks. i'll update the house as things unfold. |

samtol4: You should have asked this question before he submitted .For an official to point out the missing document(letter)shows how crucial the letter is needed .God may favour him and visa will be approved .But on a serious note the embassy want to know what he is doing in Nigeria and assess if he will not overstay or refuse to come back .A lot of Nigerians including graduates came with Visiting visa and apply for Asylum under inhumane conditions while some are roaming aimlessly doing nothing . The Letter remain crucial although he may still get visa approval . thanks, i get your point bro. now i'm scared. i just pray that his age (19) and being invited by an SA citizen might give him an advantage. na God i dey look. |
Travel › Re: General South Africa Visa Enquiries by godownson: 7:54pm On Apr 28, 2015 |
TYPOP: It will be nice if he includes a letter of self introduction (I really don't know why we need these things anyway) but the letter from his school is really important. They want to know what people are doing (in Nigeria) and assess the chances of people trying to become illegal residents of their country. In short, they want to know if your brother will have reasons to go back home or if he will try to stay in the Republic.
These seem trivial but they may deny people's visas based on these and they may overlook them.
I'm asking myself what the way out is and I am seeing difficult choices to be made (either pay to add documents via VFS or go to the embassy to try and beg them so he can add the documents). Unfortunately, it's not a good time to apply for visa cos of the diplomatic row between Naija and SA.
Let him pray and seek for favour and then decide on what to do.
I'm interested in hearing what the others have to say.
cc @collinsfbi @samtol4 @yinkob002 @sultan003 @chemashie @kingmayor Thanks man. oh well, now i'm scared. i never knew any of these letters were needed especially the one from his school... i would've gotten it done. he is only 19 years old so i'm wishfully thinking that since he is young, they might overlook the letter issue and grant him the visa. as for adding the documents, he already left lagos for the east today. actually, he says the applicants were few (i guess its due to the xenophobia saga). please, more opinions from the house. |

hello house, my Lil bro submitted the following things today for a 2 weeks visit visa: -international passport -flight reservation -photocopy of yellow card -2 passport photographs (on white background) -invitation letter from SA host (dated and signed by host) -6 months bank statement of SA host (stamped by bank) -photocopy of SA host's ID card (certified) -SA proof of accommodation (certified).
When he got to the vfs center at lekki to submit the documents for the visa application, an official looked at his documents and said they were fine but that he was supposed to come with a letter from his school (a computer school) and another letter (my bro says he cant remember- i'm guessing its an introductory letter or something like that). but then the official said he could still submit the documents like that if he wanted to. so he did submit it. my question is, does the unavailability of the letters requested pose a threat?. i thought everything listed above are the requirements for a visit visa?. what do i need to know... i need your thoughts on this. TYPOP, samtol4, yinkob002 and others who got experience, pls help. |

yinksob002: In response to question 1, that section only applies to passengers in transit to another country and doesn't apply to you since your final destination is SA. Simply write " NOT APPLICABLE" on that part of the application form. The same thing applies to the other question u raised below in (1). 2) Since d applicant is a student, simply indicate so on the part that says occupation or profession. It poses no problem at all. All the best.... alright. thanks bro. |
